Simple, hypnotic and effective. Siouxsie & the Banshees had some great non-album singles and some really interesting B-sides.... and there's more to come!
Some fantastic B-sides, often more experimental, psychedelic and quirky even than album tracks. 'Eve White/Eve Black' ('Christine'), 'Red Over White' ('Israel'), 'Il Est Ne Le Divin Enfant' ('Melt'), 'Love In a Void' (technically a double A with 'Mittageisen') all spring to mind. This is a very hypnotic tune, nail on the head there, Matt, evoking very atavistic emotions.
@@jungatheart6359 My favourite Siouxsie & the Banshees single B-side would probably be 'Tattoo' (which was on the back of 'Dear Prudence'). This one is equally hypnotic and atmospheric.
This one came out of a Budge and Severin jamming session at the end of the JuJu sessions, playing with tape loops. Severin say Can (one of those German krautrock bands you were asking about). It's not far from Creatures territory in sound, kind of tribal and ritualistic in sound. The lyrics appear to be inspired by Stephen king's short story, Children of the Corn, where children have crucified/sacrificed the adults in the cornfields, like scarecrows, to honour the god or creature that lives in the corn. The scarecrows are corpses, the children and the corn are nourished by the sun, but they have to leave the cornfields at night. Like the PSB's the banshees were also a great b-sides band.
The Banshees released Downside Up, a stunning 4 CD collection of B-sides plus The Thorn EP. It is easily the most coveted item in my collection.

I totally missed the Children of the Corn reference! I agree this could easily be a Creatures song!
