What an interesting collection of cars can you imagine walking around that field in 20yrs time looking at nothing but grey and black SUV’s with identical shapes and different badges 🥲 all the design and different shapes sent to the past. Nice walk around Matt 👍.

You should make a trip of it, it's an eye opener! The Streetwise was a car ahead of its time - it was mocked for pretend off road styling with taller suspension at the time but now thats all anyone buys!

Hey Matt! Great video. I'm the owner of the black 147, and indeed we came all the way from Portugal. As I said in another comment, I'm surprised by how few 147s I've seen on the road in the UK. One look at the Vi while walking around and I guessed that it was yours - brilliant car.
I always love the coverage of this show and how it celebrates "regular" cars that are quickly disappearing from the roads. It also makes you conscious of the fact you're growing older when you discover the cars you saw everyday when you were growing up or aspired to when you first started driving are now between 42 and 20 years old.
Glad to hear the discussion about the Probe! I’ve had 3 of them over the years here in the US, all 2nd generation. Love them. Very underrated and under appreciated. Seems even more overlooked across the pond!
The country identification letters in white ovals go back way before the EU/EEC was a thing and cover way more countries, its just we usually only see European registered vehicles with them as they cross borders more. The UK used GB for about 100 years! The 'Europlate' did popularize putting the letter on the blue band at the end of the number plate as many EU member states made it mandatory but even that idea didn't start there as a blue band with a national flag is permitted under the Vienna convention and pretty common in Non-EU Eastern European countries.

That Corsa at 33:17 L299WLH, I used to see it before back when it was driving around North West London. I noticed that the V5C logbook got updated and I thought it got sold on and thought it was a bit of a bummer that I would probably not see it driving around my area again, especially since it was the earliest Corsa that I have seen apart from the K reg that I used to sit in, but I am so pleased to see that it is not only being taken good care of, but even made it to the Festival of the Unexceptional! Good job to James for taking such good care of the paintwork especially, it was in quite a state before!
19:56 is my 1979 Dodge RV, Matt. I've only owned it since December and prior to that, it had been tucked away for 20 years being restored. This would probably have been its first ever car show where it received lots of love. If you see it again, check out the amazing interior. I owned what was probably the only other Fiat argenta in the UK, a 1982 model, back in 1990, 2 litre twin cam it was the successor to the 132. It was alleged that it didn't sell well because of the name and coming out at the same time as the Argentinian conflict. Nostalgic video Matt ❤
The Silver Alfa Romeo 147 was my Uncles. He was planning to bring another car from the Hyundai stable but sadly it required welding and MOT. We were surprised that there was only two 147's in the same spec on show, strangely in different body styles as the black one was three door and his car was a five door. Hopefully he will be getting the Hyundai back on the road ready for next year as it is a very rare and special version of Accent model. Great show and excellent line up of cars on display again this year.
I was happy to see another 147 in the show (the black one is mine). It's maybe a bit too modern, but to be honest, it's based on an old Fiat Tipo, plus it was launched almost 24 years ago. Since entering the UK, I've only seen 2 or 3 - one of them was a black 3 door version, like mine, but facelifted, with a Goodwood sticker - already made me think the owner was actually proud of the thing.
@eduardotomas6028 I got back home and looked on eBay UK and only 1 147 standard T spark came up. The rest are special editions or the GTA versions. The one my uncle had was actually a stand in for the car he will hopefully be taking to shows, which is a rare Hyundai Accent model.

I absolutely adore the Multipla owner's reaction to another. 43:23: Looking at the rims reminds me of a W123 my mother and I saw when she was driving home from my grandma's house. The centre of the car's rims were painted the same colour as its body.
Glad to see this as I was going to attend again this year but now they have increased prices to £35 I went to a local show instead. £27 50 last year made it an expensive show but now it has become ridiculous. If we didn't bring our cars there would be no show at all and much as I love FOTU, it feels like a money making exercise.
Organizing events has gotten so expensive the last few years, and suppliers require being paid up front that tickets have to get more expensive. Many organizers just give up, there’s hardly any money in it anymore unless you’re one of the really big ones that can basically ask any price and still sell out.
I am not satiated, i NEED to one day visit this show all the way from Finland. Hoping to get my 605 turbo in good enough nick to drive forw'ds and back, or if money allows my 91 Caprice... or just anything. Finally the year of the mk1 Twingo, just got myself a 1995 Ragtop Twingo in yellow about 2 years ago which is a brilliant thing although it has some issues with getting started.

1:07:59 Some old red paints get that discoloration because of chalk. They're "chalking out", which is the white particles that make the paint appear pink-ish.
It's becoming a bit of a bugbear, that's for sure. Without people bringing their cars, there'd be no show, so they should offer some kind of discount for those bringing their classic.
To be fair, the model favors bringing a plus 1 or more. You get your car in show and whoever you can pack in your car gets in as well. iirc the guy who drove the Zeta over went 7 man deep meaning their 40 quid ticket could be split 7 ways, or just under 6 quid per person. Myself I went with a friend (his Cordoba is in the background of the outro of this video) and two others meaning it cost 10 pounds per person to get in. Only flaw is that basically all of us now got inspired to buy some chod to get into next year's show and that will then get pricy I admit. But there's always bound to be someone who's both your mate and doesn't care to have his car in show, or more than one.
That Peugeot engine bay looked like the car had been parked in the sea !. It's the sort of car you park in front of your neighbours house if you don't like them very much.
It's great to see so many young people getting into the world of classics. Shout out to the lad that saved the MK1 Sierra, it's a car I have a special connection with and own myself so I'm glad that beige beauty lives and younger guy's are looking after them for the future generations

The two Peugeots (404 truck and 305 estate) together (and he was talking with some people as you panned around) is the excellent 6d Diesels UA-cam channel. He dragged the 305 out a hedge after being sat for 30 years.
Great show, I'm sure people enjoyed your welcoming them on the way in too :) They don't seem to be that strict on limiting the age of cars since there are cars from 2000s there but I'm thought when I last went a few years ago there was a cut off?
39:00 Hard to believe any Synchro-one of those survived^^ Most died in winters, the rest got slaughtered to make Mk1 and Mk2-Golfs All Wheel Drive for big-power engine swaps. Seems like that one is enjoying its retirement (seasonal plate, April to October)
You're absolutely right. Normal Passat hard to come by but syncro with 5 cylinder is absolute rarety these days. The same goes for Audi's from the same period with Quattro or Avant
The 33 series 3 1.3 was sold in quite a few markets - including in RHD form in the Republic Of Ireland. I had a lhd base model series 3 1.3. Carbs as standard and no power steering (bought while I worked in Belgium). I have driven a rhd Irish import series 3 1.3 VL, which had carbs but power steering. 1.3 had a lower ratio gearbox than the 1.5 and 1.7.
I had an Astra as a company car from 1995 - 98. Twice it was rear ended and repaired - once just before the business moved it on - as a result of Vauxhall Flame Red the front end was same colour as Jayemms van middle was Flame Red starting to fade a bit and the rear end tailgate was brand new Flame Red !!!!
@@furiousdriving yep but being a company car it had been serviced every 10k miles had 4 brand new quality tyres and a fresh MOT on it. And the drivers seat was the one used the rest hardly so therefore someone who could see past the paint could see they could get a quality car at auction for not much money
I was trying to talk my dad into swapping the Pre-production facelifted Ford Puma he'd borrowed from work that we turned up in for the Rover limo. As funny as we agreed it would be for the bods back at Dunton to find that Rover back where the developmental Puma was, I couldn't convince him.

I love how some people are already appreciating corsa c's. They are already dissapearing in strong numbers. And having had one a while ago (obviously had to scrap it because of headgasket failure and not wanting to deal with the timing chain) but they had quite nice styling in my opinion very y2k
I had one of those misery spec Escort mk6? 1300 4 speed not more money in blanking plates than buttons, best Escort there was as nothing to disappoint.
I remember In the 80s watching the British rally championship with Kelle Grundel driving the 309 GTI and Louise Atken Walker in the 205, the 309 looked very light at the back. Not as stable as the 205 👍🏴😉

I think its a car thats finally being recognised as a modern classic now, great looking but less than a thousand left here
Portugal joined the EU (then the EEC) in the 80s, so they got the letter P for their plates, Poland joined much later so had to make do with PL.

I always liked the Mazda MX6 and Ford Probe.
As a kid a Chrysler Alpine GLS was my dream car. By the time I learned to drive most of them already looked roached. That Alpine was great to see.

But I know we all called them that at the time!

Only flaw is that basically all of us now got inspired to buy some chod to get into next year's show and that will then get pricy I admit.
But there's always bound to be someone who's both your mate and doesn't care to have his car in show, or more than one.
That Peugeot engine bay looked like the car had been parked in the sea !. It's the sort of car you park in front of your neighbours house if you don't like them very much.

The two Peugeots (404 truck and 305 estate) together (and he was talking with some people as you panned around) is the excellent 6d Diesels UA-cam channel. He dragged the 305 out a hedge after being sat for 30 years.

Most died in winters, the rest got slaughtered to make Mk1 and Mk2-Golfs All Wheel Drive for big-power engine swaps.

You're absolutely right. Normal Passat hard to come by but syncro with 5 cylinder is absolute rarety these days. The same goes for Audi's from the same period with Quattro or Avant
The 33 series 3 1.3 was sold in quite a few markets - including in RHD form in the Republic Of Ireland.
I had a lhd base model series 3 1.3. Carbs as standard and no power steering (bought while I worked in Belgium). I have driven a rhd Irish import series 3 1.3 VL, which had carbs but power steering.
1.3 had a lower ratio gearbox than the 1.5 and 1.7.
I had an Astra as a company car from 1995 - 98. Twice it was rear ended and repaired - once just before the business moved it on - as a result of Vauxhall Flame Red the front end was same colour as Jayemms van middle was Flame Red starting to fade a bit and the rear end tailgate was brand new Flame Red !!!!

@@furiousdriving yep but being a company car it had been serviced every 10k miles had 4 brand new quality tyres and a fresh MOT on it. And the drivers seat was the one used the rest hardly so therefore someone who could see past the paint could see they could get a quality car at auction for not much money
I was trying to talk my dad into swapping the Pre-production facelifted Ford Puma he'd borrowed from work that we turned up in for the Rover limo.
As funny as we agreed it would be for the bods back at Dunton to find that Rover back where the developmental Puma was, I couldn't convince him.

I love how some people are already appreciating corsa c's. They are already dissapearing in strong numbers. And having had one a while ago (obviously had to scrap it because of headgasket failure and not wanting to deal with the timing chain) but they had quite nice styling in my opinion very y2k

I remember In the 80s watching the British rally championship with Kelle Grundel driving the 309 GTI and Louise Atken Walker in the 205, the 309 looked very light at the back. Not as stable as the 205 👍🏴😉
