Mystery of FFXI was the greatest adventure.
Especially the mythical "Treasure Hunter" effect, that no one seem to ever understand back then. XD
Haahh treasure hunter was a mystery foreeeever
I remember buying the Millionaires desk way back in the day because there were rumors that it had a hidden effect of Treasure Hunter...
Ahahah yeah and the “Lucky Egg” used for OpCrown... For years people said it was TH+1 while having it in main inventory.
@@Huntin4GamesChannel Yep...all I cared was that my THF had just hit level 75 and I had the THF Relic gloves waiting since no one in my Dynamis linkshell at the time had THF above 70.
Go to the next day and a buddy is on BST soloing Xolotl, and asks me to come out to put my TH4 on it. Sure enough, he gets the drop he wants....and we also see: Xolotl drops a Perseus' Harpe. So my THF got that literally 48 hours after getting the gloves. And I was the only North American player on Phoenix Server with the best dagger in the game (at the time) aside from Mandau for a very looooong time.
But in terms of hidden effects, the Nanban Kariginu for NIN, hands down. I hunted down that Opo-Opo spawn 2 times to get that to level NIN. Hidden Effect: Accuracy and Evasion +5 by eating pamamas at level 30...on Ninja?!? Yes please....save me all that money I would have used on expensive food while playing the 2nd most expensive job in the game (Ranger was easily #1...and I would know...I leveled that to 75 too, and maxed out woodworking just to save SOME money).
sold one of these back in late 04 early 05 (icr anymore) for 110mil and a few more when the price dropped to around 80mil all the way down to 60mil... good ol' ffxi. i had the ph timer for sozu on my comment box and some other money nms so i never forget lol. LoO was also very profitable... until the rmt farmers came
As a DRK I used the tredecim scythe a lot, had a hidden critical effect on each 13th hit
I got my moldavite earring as a high level RDM and when I leveled BLM and put it on, I felt like a badass.
Best MMORPG ever made hands down. Nothing comes close.
agreed
DwarvishPasty you suck
DwarvishPasty I’m 20 and started this game when I was 10 fool
Agreed and I played it on the xbox360 back in the day. I still miss it to this day but life happens and I had to quit...
I had a 75 nin, 75 whm, 75 rdm, 75 thf, 75 pld and a 75 blm so yes it was so hard to quit... Fenrir server for life!
Should do a video about all of the conspiracy theories in classic ffxi. Thf kill, lucky items 4leaf,luck rabbit foot egg
I've never heard of any of that, and would love to see that.
75 era dropping 5- 7m on Sorc Ring for the latent effect combined with HQ staves :D
Dam what server were u on
The company sword - pretty cheap, think an antica in quicksand caves drops it, a decent starter melee sword at 75 cap until you got a joyeus or something but its hidden latent is, that its base damage increases depending on how many people are in your party hence the name company - pretty cool. Not sure if the latent works on private servers, anyone got it?
I absolutely LOVED those KSNM weapons - Destroyers, Heart Snatch, Subduer, and DISSECTOR! I used the Maneater axe a ton on my WAR/NIN, as well as Gaudy Harness and Apollo's Staff on my BST. After the two-handed update I used Rune Chopper a ton - it had a latent effect of Accuracy +5 and a massive HASTE +9%! The latent activated by draining 3 mp/tic. It was the reason I switched to MP merits to give my WAR 80 mp. Also, our LS RDMs knew to Refresh all the WARS, it was like casting a second Haste on them!
I honestly would like to see the OFFICAL Hunting 4 Games Omlette, even as a throw away skit in a random video haha
I liked Selene's Bow, which I used for a few days while saving up for Eurytos' Bow, and then used that until Yoichinoyumi. Selene's Bow provided +2 accuracy, +21 attack; +21 accuracy, +2 attack; or something in-between based on the moon phase.
Carbuncle's Mitts were awesome. Another one I liked was the great katana Hagun. A hidden effect was the +100 TP bonus (or to use the current display, +1000) when doing a weapon skill while not under Sekkanoki. It made a fairly ordinary weapon one of the best for a 75 SAM.
Yes Hagun! So amazing
You make my FFXI memories all the more amazing. Thank you AGAIN. EVERY VIDEO IS SO GOOD.
Fkin love your vids, thought I lost you in the past among the flood of FFXIV stuff, definitey subbing this time!
Haha I bounce around but always come back to XI soon enough ;)
Opo Opo Neck for Maat was a huge plus. I love that SE made you discover things for yourself. Not so much the missions, holy crap. But so much experimenting paid off. Just look at the crafting theories alone.
I'd love to see more content on FFXI mysteries, difficult quest lines, Dynamis, etc. Basically stuff that I myself probably didn't experience myself and only heard about.
the oldschool relics are the biggest examples of the earliest hidden effects. Each finished relic has a chance on hit to do anywhere from 2-3X damage (modifier dependent on weapon)...that in conjunction with the stats and weapon skills that come with them make them extremely powerful.
Medicine Ring or... was that the name? The WHM one out of the set of JSE rings with crazy latent effects.
WHM had Cure Potency+n%, back when almost no other pieces of gear did but...! You had to be below 50% HP.
But...!
“convert X HP to MP” gear, like Astral Rings, counted! So if you managed to build a gearset that converted 50% of your HP to MP, boom! JSE ring always active.
Or... something along those lines anyway.
Just discovered this channel, superloved the vid! The feels... keep it up :)
I remember how finding out Birdbanes for MNk changed blunt to piercing. I thought that was so beneficial for certain fights.
Ya those weapons were so weird!
Yeah or honebami was a GK that did blunt.
i cant get birdbanes at 75 so i got vampyric claws.
I was one of those black mages who used the Sorcerer's Ring, the MAB+10 ring whose latent affect activated only when your HP was below 70% or whatever it was. I CONSTANTLY had to keep telling me "STOP CURING ME" and I probably made so many people so annoyed by it lol. I had a macro to equip a bunch of HP minus gear and bring my hp down to the level it needed to be before changing my gear back to what I was nuking in, but it doesnt work if I get cured... so everyone always had to remember "DONT CURE HIM"
I love your deep interest in this and the passion. I was the same when I played. You’re hardcore though, still going. I played 2002-2005
It makes me wonder how many hidden effects have yet to be discovered. I wonder if the Onion weapons you start the game with are capable of some hidden potential in reference to how the Onion Knight job works in FFIII? It probably isn't true, but the chance that it might be if the stars aligned is all you need to ignite a feeling of child-like wonder.
Back in the 75 days our group killed Sarameya and I won lot on the Foolkiller GA. Legend has it there was a hidden +8 STR but none of us could figure out what triggered it. Also we were doing Sacrarium CoP event night and we turned a corner as a group and ran RIGHT INTO an NM called Elel.... He damn neared wiped our entire group but we did get the kill. Surprisingly, I won lot on the Frenzy Sallet. As soon as I put it on to go into battle , I began to attack but immediately died because I was losing 99hp/tick and couldn't figure out why. After some some research I learned you begin losing hp with it equipped and the moment you draw your weapon lol.... good times indeed ^^
Ya that thing is crazy!!
I've killed Elel like 20 times, never got the drop.
@@Horadrius same. My one shame as bst
Sorc ring was by far my favorite. Except when the poor whms kept healing you out of yellow hp :D
Haha omg ya trying to explain that was frustrating
That’s why I had 100’s off pots growing those elemental ore 24/7 for years! I got filthy rich off those elemental stave’s! I didn’t even have to AH them. I had goldsmith’s lining up for them!
I love Senjuinrikio for my NIN. Getting that crit rate! And perdu blade giving acc and att when under 100% TP
This isn’t really a hidden effect on gear but I remember hearing back in the day that if you took off your pants right before you killed an NM it increased the drop rate. Now that was probably some one messing around to see a bunch of people with out Pants at an NM but back in the day it was worth a shot!
Lmao omg wait, I never knew this but it’s amazing
Your crew got bad info. Dropping your pants won't increase drop rates. You need to make a Tarutaru into a snackrifice to do that.
Are you taking the mick? Mentioning the spreadsheet for how Treasure Hunter works, SE revealed how it works LAST MONTH!, after the Fan Fest was cancelled due to certain virus, SE did a Q&A and did reveal the full effects of TH.
Haha it was in the video!
I played FFXI for such a long time. I have never to this moment heard of hidden effects in memory. This blows my mind, I bet there were moments where I asked people what gear pieces to have and they would reccomend something and I just went with it, not worrying about the stats on the item at the time
They’re so crazy !!
When I got my light staff as WHM51... omg it was amazing.
I spent at least twice the time outside the game on informative and/or community website for this game. To gear up my char was one of the many reason for it.
I couldn't camp NM, nor farm the required amount on AH for many piece of gear(yea 2005~2006 infamous gils inflation >.
Great video! Thanks ❤for sharing
I remember buying a Maneater axe for my beastmaster when it was really cheap. It has a decent latent effect but no one knew about the hidden effect. Once that was discovered my axe became a lot more valuable.
Widely unknown hidden effect on gear:
Every subligar in the game applies blind to all mobs that face the character wearing one.
Only when worn by males :P
I hated wearing subligars with my Galka!!!
@@hippopotatomoose Brygid APPROVED
Actually, I think SE came out recently with the TH percentages. I'll try and find the post and link it.
Also, I love the stat stuff. It made any kind of armor valuable to keep. The vermilion cloak just being able to keep your MP up was awesome.
They did! It was amazing~ so many years~ lol
Lol at the dark knight that kept asking to have his hp topped off so he can activate the 1 tick of refresh on his parade gorget. Especially when he would last resort souleater at the start of fights
The robe that provided refresh from that NM ant or the boots from tiamat... Man it's been a while since I played! Taru blm on leviathan but I played all mages :)
These were always insane, but kind of fun. I would probably not want to go back, but it was indeed a fascinating world of gear. I remember when I toyed with the Strange Apparatus'es in the game, and discovered that they can give you the RUNE weapons, which all had these neat effects, but they would only work, when you had MP above zero, and these blasted things wouldd drain your MP like mad! THIS in a game where many jobs have no MP to begin with. OK, as long as you had 1 MP it would work, so technically you could give some MP+1 ring to a Warrior and have them use Yagudo drinks, have the Red Mage cast Refresh on them.... but that feels like so much work for unlocking the true power.... of a level 70 axe!
Stuff like this made the game feel like Magic the Gathering, like a strategic process where you could potentially come up with a clever strategy to make things stronger. But again, while I look back with nostalgia at it, I probably would not want to go back. The games are complex as it is....
Martial Axe paired with Ridill in to burn party was really nice.
I was always a wow boy in the 2000s but one of the things I knew about in FFXI was this and man they sounded so cool
My favorite latent would have to be Minstrel's ring - Song spellcasting time -25%.
FFXI truly had one of the best itemization ever. If you went for that item even at low levels it was actually still useful at end game.
The skill system also made leveling actually a journey.
The game is/was/will be unique. It really Is/was/will be a truly wonderful game.
My favorites, as a pld main, were the Parade Gorget and Hercules' Ring
Oh i wanted Kung Fu shoes/Wulong shoes/Dune boots soo bad back in the day. :) When i finaly got them.. It was something special.
I got a "Matron's knife" from 2008 bonanza rank 4, pretty gold knife with hidden effect you can eat any raw fish and meat as any race.
6:30 Martial Knife by far favorite
Perdu Hanger for BLU, strong weapon at the time
LV30 Latent Earrings were really cool. As an avid SAM/RNG fan the Beater's Earring was my go-to earring in this set.
oh company sword, the tungi, martial weapons and everything in between. how people found this stuff out is a testament to how much people love this game and the effort put into it.
Yeah the sorcerer ring, you had to have yellow hp, had to have a whole set of gear for hp convert to get you there, pain in the butt!
Minstrels ring was an absolute game changer. I remember raging at healers for taking my hp out if the yellow. Ahh and those mitts, but also that fight...lol fun times.
Congrats on LB1 completion! ^_^
Cool to learn about your favourite hidden and latent effects along with the best/worst ones out there.
There was a PLD shield that dropped in ronfuere somewhere that had a high block rate with +1 vitality !! It was off some crab I forgot what the NM name was.
Yes!!
Clipeus, dropped from the Fungus Beetle in West Ronfaure ;)
Dave Cole That’s it !!!!
Getting that shield by accident was enough for me to level pld. Ended up as my main 😎👍
Dave Cole hell yea !!! As PLD never had an issue finding a party but as LoLDRG was a nightmare...
Man. I love this channel. Why isnt there a join button.
Wasn’t there also the whole chocobo digging skill? No display of skill ups, but if you check it yourself you could dig sooner (from entering the zone) and dig up better stuff (like elemental ore)
I loved latent effects! Just... not so much figuring them out. But it was another part of why XI was like EQ in a lot of ways. There was all this hidden knowledge you accumulated over time. Some of which you only had a partial understanding of after years, like how aggro actually worked. I remember when the theory of volatile and cumulative aggro started getting passed around. And then there were the rumors that weren't real, but because the game had so many crazy hidden mechanics, you went "... maybe!" Not that I think it was always done well. Absolute Virtue anyone?
It is interesting to read up on modern FFXI and see that a lot of the curtains were pulled back, and now we have hard explanations of how some stuff works.
Haha right? The figuring is almost impossible
Good job on this. I wish this game had a bigger following or major battle update
Elemental staves. Those were fun using.
My favorite, although I hated the macros lol
I knew you played on Eden but I didn’t know you made such good production value videos!
Also I’m a big fan of everything you said and I hope similar ideas come back to MMOs
Still up and running. It was a hoax
destroyers, monk, had to get 500 ws points, and its like the best weapon in the game
HQ elemental staffs gave like a 50% so whm telewhoring in jeuno for days to fund it. At least needed ice since it was most used, and dark for sleep/aspir. Mostly just sleep accuracy. Good ol' days.
50% over non HQ staffs no 50% bonus *
I liked the great sword, Subduer. KSNM Gsword, latent effect 85DMG Critical Hit Rate +6% level 72. This made it practically as strong as the Relic great sword at the time, sans the relic damage+proc and unique tier 3 SC property WS.
In that same vein, a lot of those type weapons. Dissector, Morgenstern, among many others.
The other item effect I was always curious about was the SAM AF piece that said, "Enhances the effects of Rice Balls." Then it turned out that they'd coded each type of Rice Ball food to provide extra bonuses, some of them really good, if you wore that piece and ate rice balls. Sushi, Meat, or later on pizza always turned out to be better, but hey! it could have been cool.
This makes me think though, food effects were mostly hidden. Like you ate the food and you could see the effect on your attributes and ATK, but you couldn't directly see the impact on Accuracy, Store TP, Resist Paralysis, or if the food gave you a killer effect or not. So food had hidden stuff too!
Was rumored that the millionaires desk gave treasure hunting and the desk was so expensive it had to be true!
What server should i play on. My nostalgia can't take it anymore and I'm returning. The server you are playing on seems somewhat active and fun. Any suggestions? Or what server are you on?
I've gotta look up the hidden effect of the Destroyers now.
I got a Sorcerer's Ring from BCNM at a time when nobody thought it was worth using, so the price was low. Kept it as a toy. After returning to the game from a 3 year absence the price had skyrocketed to millions, it was in the meta at that moment. I sold it of course, then a few months later decided I wanted one to actually use. D'oh.
I remember a warrior friend was absolutely convinced that Berserker's axe gave some kind of damage boost to berserk. He put together a bunch of parses that he thought showed this. I'm almost certain he was wrong, the thing just had a massive damage stat and he just looked for fluctuations in his parses.
Loved the ps2 intro!
I always bring up carbuncle mitts when describing how FFXI's gear system is superior to every modern game, but I never knew about the shoes that increased kick damage until watching this video. I bet there's still some interactions that nobody knows about. Another video revisiting this subject would be great!
FFXI Mobile is still coming just had the name changed to FFXIR and rumor hasn't it's also coming to pc and consoles the R stands for reboot.
Funny you should mention SE not putting out a giant spreadsheet for treasure hunter... because they actually recently did
Hahah ya I was messin around, can’t believe they did that
@@Huntin4GamesChannel Need to work on that sarcasm :p
Very late but i like the new editing style!
Thanks dude!
@@Huntin4GamesChannel yw 😁
Lvl 30 wyvern earring gave +5 haste for having dragoon as a subjob. People laughed as i came out to the jungle as sam/drg.... till the fight started. : )
Company Sword was great.. I think it increased damage for every member in your party. A cool budget sword if you couldn't get gluttony sword at the time
I remember when I bought a Sorcerer's Ring for 15k because it wasn't considered very good, or what the reason was but people wanted to get rid of it; and it suddenly exploding in the millions after it was figured out it can be a very good piece. This included some haste pieces like the blitz ring or bravo's subligar.
A manthra! Classic 🤣 loved FFXI, considering going back
Well I was a DRK there wasn't that much latent effect stuff for me. However my second main was a BLM! Of course the Staves! They were pretty comon knowledge but I think there was this necklace as well that gave Magic Atk if you were under 51% MP? Which basicallly after 2 spells for me as a hume! (Burst/ThunderIV) Also this pendant was from the dreaded temple of ugaleppih idk how its spelled.... I hated that whole area. So fucking frustrating to navigate.
I thought Eden got shut down? A guy in my Discord posted something from the guy who runs the server saying they got a Cease and Desist letter. Was that not true?
And that's what made FF11 a good game and why it's player based originally stayed. The fact that things were a mystery and that entire world was a mystery and there was just a lot to discover. I feel that this is something that the game has lost ever since it proceeded to go to level 99 and ilevel. The game seems more about raw stats now rather than mystery, story, and world building.
What was it 'Stumbling sandals' -10 Dex and Agi haha!
I remember asking someone about them once and was told you wear them to skill up parrying idk if they meant just by increasing the chance to get hit at later levels, was a long time ago and just popped up when I seen this.
@@phunkychipmunk5937 Yeah, those were actually good for helping you level your defensive skills like Block or Parry. There were several pieces of gear that specifically or tangentially lowered Dex and Agi for those exact purposes. Because of how the game calculated how hits were determined, taking a -10 to Dex and/or Agi was pretty huge, and in the wrong situation could get you killed. Putting this gear on with the intention of "training" on mobs that won't necessarily kill you, but instead flood you with attacks was a good way to build up your defensive skills.
Hunter, ever fight Promy fights in Eden? Wicked difficult.
Not yet! Excited to try!
I miss this game so much.
My favorite were the Destroyers, but I might be a bit biased since I used those things until I got verethragna
I was so happy about the destroyers, they were so good
@@Huntin4GamesChannel Absolutely, I don't think I know of anyone who regret getting them.
I remember I bought a Sorcerer’s ring which had a latent magic attack bonus +10. But no one knew how to activate the effect yet, so it was like 10k at the AH. I took a break from the game for a while, came back, people discovered how it worked, and I was able to sell that back for 500 or 600k! My char was BLM too so I finally got to go on a shopping spree and buy good gear lol
fool killer was an interesting latent.. not sure if it was ever found
All the latent effects on gear were probably the biggest factor in driving me to sites like Allakhazam and Somepage, which in turn led me to several forums. I'm not chatty when I'm playing (unless I'm doing something really mindless like camping an NM) 'cause I'm focused on the game, but I did build a social network outside the game. Looking at it in 2020, it feels like deliberately player-hostile design, but it sort of acted as a filter between the folks who were just playing around and the ones who were trying to maximize their character. Similarly, quite a lot of the reverse-engineering of statistics and their effects was encouraged by those forums where people were trying to figure out this deliberately obtuse game. I can't imagine a game in 2020 trying to do that and I don't remember other MMOs deliberately hiding information (WoW has a very few rare examples, I'm sure other games do), but somehow it worked at that exact point in time.
Ya games would never do that now - but it’s so cool
Been 10 years since I played this game properly but hands down the best game I've ever played
I've been playing FF3, the red cap has a hidden effect of HP+, I put it on and it added like 400 HP, was like what the heck
Was the crafting day-of-week and compass facing theory ever proven or disproven?
BLM earring and neck. 1 would give you 30%pdt and other would give you high MAB. But onry when health in the red. So you had to make a precast gearswap set to drop your HP as BLM. I still use that earring for emergencies at lv 119.
I just remember all the theories of Treasure Hunter in combo with rabbit’s foot and four leaf clover made TH boost 15%? Who knows if it was true but one thing was for certain in XI, stats meant something. If you had a +1 you were pretty cool but if you had a +2??? You were a god.
Could you do a play through of elite dangerous VR? Or a stream or something. Watched your review video and couldn’t stop laughing
Maneater got a lot of miles on my WAR back in the day.
I think you're great! If I transfer to Odin can I team up with your crew? :D
Thank you
Ah, FF11, how i miss u sometimes
I just set my frame rate to 60 and the game feels so much better now.. smooth as butter. How did I forget to check this and kept playing at 30... uf.
Dune Boots yo.. Was told they were for my monk. Got'em back then.
This video, just had me scroll through a long list of Latent and Hidden Effects, but none of them stand out, as something I really used as Paladin. Latent/Triggered Effects at best, like Parade Gorget, or Hercules Ring, which had me become a mini-god, during NM solo hunts. But I DO remember fighting the Carbuncle Mitts NM. I even have a screenshot, where I'd dabbled with "DAT modding", after an inside-joke about the boring, original design of them: drive.google.com/open?id=1EyEh-rs2b6oySwn7soItkqpp9QMskyv1
When I got the Yinyang Robe I thought that was the greatest,
