    My problem with weapon durability is simple. They intended it for more exploration but i found myself not taking on certain fights or goin in certain locations because it wasnt worth breaking weapons for. And the biggest reason i hated it was it easily took up 5-10 hours of my BOTW time played fucking with my weapons. Be it switching out weapons or having to go hunt new ones for a upciming battle it just made it all feel like a chore and thats never how a zelda game has made me feel till now. The fusing of items might make it more interesting but i feel ill spend even more time dicking around with my weapons and this is something i desperately dont wanna do.

      I honestly don't get this though. How is it "not worth breaking weapons for" when you can literally farm high level weapons that keep respawning in the same areas every day. Like, even royal weapons aren't rare at all, there is absolutely no reason at all to ever not use them other than being a risk averse cowardly player.

    lol I'm glad to see someone else pointing out the LONG development time considering all the assets were reused. I've heard almost no one talk about it, the six year delay was literally the biggest Zelda drought we've ever had and I don't see anything that's been added to justify it, looks more like glorified DLC from the trailers. At least previously you had home console and handheld games released to make the wait between titles more bearable, they've merged their departments and it's tanked their productivity.

  • @SnailNick00
    @SnailNick00 Рік тому +27

    I think it's bad because Loss Aversion is a thing. It's why a lot of people will hoard their good healing items in games and NEVER use them. A lot of people will skip on combat because they don't want their weapons to break because it feels far more worse to break a weapon than it feels good to find a good weapon. Even the "good" weapons break after what feels like 5 enemies. It feels wasteful especially if you are not really gaining something when killing enemies.
    Don't get me wrong people are free to like the mechanic but there's a psychologic reason why people DO dislike it and it would be stupid to tell people to simple get over it. And it's just not fun to a lot of people.
    I got used to it, but it was never FUN to me, I also didn't see it as a challenge, it didn't make the game more engaging to me, it was only annoying. It also makes finding weapons less fun in my opinion, because you know you will just break it anyways in 5 minutes.

You ruined what could have been a good game for thousands of people with your baseless complaints just because you couldn't be arsed to get out of your comfort zones for one game.

      @robokill387 I wouldn't consider it fixed. I've played BotW with no durability and the game was actually far more fun. I could actually use strategy and different weapons. Before i would get as many slots as I could fine Korok seeds, then hoard the best of my favorite weapon type. I could 20 slots and have them all be royal broad swords. Once durability wasn't a thing I spent no tine hunting for weapons after a blood moon, I foind the best version of a weapon naturally as I played and kept upgrading and switching up play style. Instead of a hoard of the same weaposn type, I had an example of each weapon that I would experiment with every fight. So much better. By not forcing me to switch on a regular basis, I ended up switching more often and by choice.

    The only time the durability really bothered me in Breath of the Wild was with the Master Sword. My biggest issues with weapon durability are: 1. It feels like the developers are FORCING me to have to use different weapons, when it's not the devs place to dictate how I play my game. If I want to go through the game using a cool spear I found in a dungeon for the whole game, then I should be able to. Fuck weapon durability. If the devs want me to mix things up, they should make it where different weapons have different playstyles, so if I want to play the game in a different manner, I can be like "This spear is awesome, but I wanna see what this halberd be like." and then I can learn and utilize the halberd's play style to mix things up a bit. 2. It feels like I'm being punished for getting into combat considering weapons are so fuckin fragile, which is terrible game design in a game where combat is a key mechanic.

      Hey man, I know your comment is 5 months old, but I just HAD to agree to it. I fucking LOATHE weapon durability for the exact reasons that you mentioned. It'd be one thing if the crummy weapons broke, like literal sticks, mass produced generic swords and such, etc. But fucking Royal weapons? Mystical Elemental weapons? THE FUCKING MASTER SWORD OF LEGEND????? Nothing masterful about it if I can only use it for 30 minutes before it needs some quality R&R.
      I just hate the durability system, and I'm legitimately thinking about modding my console for the first time just so I can take it out. What the hell is the point of ever getting into combat if I only ever lose items, not always gain them. I love combat, but I can never enjoy it in this game and would often avoid it all together to hoard my precious weapons. It's bullshit.

    I didn't hate this mechanic in Botw and found it a clumsy but understandable decision. But Fuse makes me really hate weapon durability. I have several problems with it, but the biggest one is the extremely annoying inventory management. You need to do too much digging in your inventory every. single. time. your glass-fragile weapon breaks. It grows worse and worse as you get more items and the battles become longer with stronger enemies. Not to mention that it totally breaks the combat flow. Digging through your inventory takes literally hours of total playtime (and your life) without improving the experience. I can't remember a game with inventory management THIS annoying -- at least, a good game, and I've seen many.

    I don’t know if it should be included in the future or not but it definitely worked for Breath of the Wild and it was a fresh take on a new open world experiment. Honestly, anyone that had a problem with weapon durability probably had some skill issues. It’s not that hard to deal with especially if you know what you are doing. It also made combat somewhat of a chess match because you had to constantly plan ahead of time and actually think about strategy. You also constantly see yourself progressing, improving, and getting smarter throughout the game. I thought the enemy variety was a much bigger issue considering how vast the map is.

  • @rmc_hyde
    @rmc_hyde 11 місяців тому +2

    v…TLDR I solved weapon durability…v
    Weapon durability should have been replaced with weapon upgrading / scaling. You find a variety of weapons at the beginning of the game, and decide which ones you want to invest materials you’ve gathered into to upgrade. As you kill higher tier enemies you gain hidden xp (similar to the scaling system in botw). Higher tier enemies will begin to appear and will carry non-upgraded higher class weapons with higher base stats so killing them will be challenging and rewarding, encouraging engaging in combat, not avoiding it. Duplicate weapons can be used as upgrade materials. Suddenly every weapon has value even if it has no upgrades and has worse stats than your current weapon. By the endgame you will either have or be able to find and upgrade weapons that are the strongest available, just like you are able to more easily find stronger weapons in botw. We should also have inventory space for one of every kind of weapon for the collector-completionists out there. Also, this would have to increase the enemy variety to keep the gameplay loop going long enough (enemy variety has been REALLY lacking as it is so this is a plus)
    And to guarantee constant exploration, they should implement a hunger mechanic, so that we actually need to live in this world and take action to survive in it. Differentiating what kinds of meat we have collected and from what animal it is from would be a nice addition to those who might be eager to feel immersed in a hunt. Giving us these changes opens up more ways to play the game and gives the player freedom instead of essentially telling us “be careful when you use your sword, it breaks, a lot. Focus on exploring”.

    EDIT: Before anyone says it, yes the fuse system absolutely helps alleviate the horrible durability system. Keyword being alleviates though, not fixes. It's a bandaid solution to something I still very much have a problem with.
    I'll flatout say it, weapon durability in BotW and now TotK legitimately harms the experience for me in a very big way. I do not view it as valuable or integral to the game at all, and I would genuinely have a lot more fun with it removed entirely. People can argue counter points all damn day until their blue in the tits, and while I do agree with some points, I just can't agree on the mechanic being here as a whole, at least not in it's current state. Every single enemy encounter I face, I have to weigh if it's even worth engaging considering all the weapons I'm probably about to lose. Sure, you could say that's the point, it's all about strategy, but it ends up pushing me to avoid all unnecessary combat in general. There's no strategy to it, there's no enjoyment. If it isn't required to progress, I'll just avoid combat altogether and continue hoarding all my good weapons, only ever using my shitty weapons when I HAVE to fight.
    It does not promote variety, it does not promote strategic planning, it is purely a tedious system for the sake of tedium and just encourages hoarding shit "until I absolutely need it." I would be totally on board if only tree branches, mass produced generic swords and weapons and such broke, hell I'd even be okay with more specialized weapons like the Yiga blades breaking to counteract their projectile ability, but the Royal weapons or the literal MASTER SWORD? It is just asinine. I have less fun because I have to avoid combat and weapons as rewards mean so much less when they'll all just break.

  • @Showgingah
    @Showgingah Рік тому

    I never had an issue with weapon durability as I never ran out of weapons to the point I would purposefully fight lynels and guardians to break them to make space. My only gripe is how when the champion weapons break, they dont get "repaired" instead you get replicas which is sad. So I never used them and just hung em on the wall. Usually a weapon was scaled strong enough to defeat a few enemies that had weapons you could pick up. I even resorted to using the weaker weapons first in hopes theyd break faster and I could use the other stuff. But nope. So I said whatever and used whatever lol. Though I love some weapon designs more than others, so I wish skins were a thing for them. I didnt mind the Master Sword too much because it would have made everything else irrelevant, hilariously I used it more for chopping trees. It goes up to full durability against Calamity Ganon, so it doesnt break against him ever...unless youre on master mode and you drag the fight out with his health regen.

    I don’t get the hate against weapon breaking. If you found the highest damage wepon in the game. All you would use is that one sword. The reason why they have weapon durability is so that you explore more weapons and items. Also half of the chests would be gone, as half of them are weapons. You wouldn’t need them if you just had that one powerful weapon.

    • @thebiggestpanda1
      @thebiggestpanda1 Рік тому +4

      It’s called weapon balancing. If there’s one Uber sword that everybody’s using, it’s either because that sword is too strong or the other weapons don’t have enough going for them. Make everything useable and people will just pick what they like and stick with it. So many games get this right.

      @@thebiggestpanda1 that’s the thing. You can’t make everything useful all game because this is a different genre of game. This game has enemy scaling, which means that, for the weapons to all be equal power, they would either be way to powerful in the first half of the game, which is boring and in general terrible design, or way to weak in the endgame, which might be worse.

      There is absolutely nothing wrong with people falling in love with a particular weapon and wanting to use it exclusively. This system instead just forces you to use whatever you have without really caring too much. It hampers gameplay variability too because all the weapons need to be similar enough to each other so that you aren’t faced with a situation in which you can’t win a fight because your weapons that would suit the situation all broke. Every claymore has the same move set. Every sword. Every spear. They’re just reskins with different numbers. The reskinning is kinda pointless though because you’ll never have a piece of equipment long enough to actually grow attached to it.

      @@thebiggestpanda1 I understand that some people want to use one weapon exclusively but, that would breack the game in many ways.
      They could have added something in where you use materials to repair them and make them more resistant but, in TOTK seems like the zelda team already inplemented it in a funny way, you can apparently just bind the weapon with a determinated item and it will be repaired and will last longer...
      That said, there are many ways to get weapons in BOTW and is not that hard to find a specific one so... It's not a problem for me.

    Taking away weapons breaking would ruin the game. To me combat was at its absolute best when I was constantly improvising. Cycling through weapons, picking them up as enemies drop them, igniting explosives, climbing up high to shoot some arrows, throwing a weapon about to break to do double damage, etc.
    Fusion will definitely encourage more of this as well, so I hope the ppl who find it annoying will complain less now since they can effectively just stick a bandage on 😂

    I'll never understand the complaints against the durability system. These aren't games where you spend hours and hours improving and mastering a single weapon only for it to break. It's clear from the very start that weapons are expendable resources to be managed but ultimately used.

      The problem most people have is that it disincentivizes combat. There's no reason to fight that camp of bokoblins if it means I'll blow through all my weapons and be left with clubs instead. It also mucks up inventory management and makes it disappointing to be rewarded with a weapon after a quest or shrine.
