    Winters in Japan are cold. A kotatsu is a life saver.

    Wow, $200 for such a big apartment!!! I really love the way you've made it your own, and definitely some great tips there for staying warm in winter :D
    I've just arrived in Japan on the JET programme too, sadly my apartment is half the size and more than double the rent, but it's super cute! What did you do since leaving JET?

    • @mat6729

      Congrats and I hope you are having fun in your “new home”! I miss everything about my years stay in Gunma. Where are you based right now?
      Usually when you are placed in inaka, there’s a higher chance of you getting a bigger apartment at a more affordable rate. when i was there, going to the city takes me 25min of driving. 😅
      After JET, I opened my own take out Japanese restaurant. :)

      @@mat6729 sounds like you had an amazing time! I'm in a smaller city between Kyoto and Nara, it seems to be a popular commuter area though so rent is kinda pricey round her and our BoE doesn't subsidise it. It is very convenient here though and a really lovely city so I'm not going to complain!
      Ooh wow that's incredible! I think after JET I'll look for an international school job or teach in another country perhaps (I was a teacher back in the UK so that's always going to be my focus!) :)

    People ask "how can Japan be so cheap to live there" the answer is very simple, same reason Japanese people don't charge ruinous interest rates. The answer should be right on the tip of your tongue.

    Cute and efficient apartment! I was wondering how common are second-hand and thrift stores in Japan? With students and people coming for long-term stays, it would be so helpful. Thanks for the video.

    • @mat6729
      @mat6729  Рік тому

      Super common! In fact there are malls that sell only second and stuff.. from clothes to furnitures. And theyre usually clean. I got a lot of thing from the second hand stores :)

    Yung honest answer po, how was it living alone in a very quiet and isolated place? Have you had weird experiences? I'll be applying for JET 202, and stigmatized and haunted apartment kinda hinders me 😅

    • @mat6729
      @mat6729  Рік тому

      I felt safe because my neighbours were also ALTs like myself and also because the apartment where I lived was owned or somewhat partly owned by the Board of Education. It can be very quiet but I liked it. :) good luck and I hope you get in ❤️

      I only stayed in Japan for a year, but when the news abt Corona-san broke, classes were cancelled from March to May. we (JETs) had to stay in our apartment from 8:30 to 4:15.
      It was not that scary because people there are so obedient. no anti-mask or anything like that.
