You do NOT need to use raw honey, because the pasteurisation process does not damage the naturally occurring hydrogen peroxide, which is the lightening component in honey. However, because the peroxide is not stabilised like it is in conventional hair dyes, pH levels of water can diminish the lightening properties. It is best to use distilled water, and avoid adding any ingredients that are particularly acidic in pH, such as lemon juice. Hope that helps people
Thank you!!!
what's wrong with lemon juice for lightening hair?
Nothing if you are using it alone, although it is potentially more damaging/drying to hair! But adding lemon juice with honey lessens the lightening effect, because it destabilises the naturally occurring peroxide in honey. If you are using honey to lighten, it is best to use it alone with distilled water to keep the peroxide intact and the lightening effect maximised. Using lemon and honey together does not increase your lightening effect, as some might think.

I gotta say, I am SUPER IMPRESSED with this method! I just did it for the first time, and I can already tell that my hair is at least 2-3 shades lighter, even while wet! ^_^ My hair is normally a medium to light brown (depending on who you ask), and now I'd say it's a light brown/dark blond.
I used a slightly different recipe:
A ratio of (honey) 1:4 (water)
1 tablespoon of cardamom (I read somewhere that this does the same thing as cinnamon, but doesn't cause the scalp issues that cinnamon can; like burning or itching)
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (which helps to condition the hair)
lavender oil
tea tree oil
I let the mixture rest for 15 mins (so the peroxide could develop), and the put it on my head for 2 hours. I wrapped my hair in plastic wrap and then put on a shower cap, and for extra heat also a beanie (and yes I looked absolutely ridiculous! =3).
I didn't even use high quality ingredients like raw honey or distilled water... so if anyone is worried about that, you can still get good results regardless! XD
+GeekUnique So you used regular honey that you can buy in a supermarket?
+GeekUnique is it permanent?plz help.I wanna try this but I don't want my hair to remain a shade lighter for more than two months.....

Amber wynne-jones Did you do this day after day or every couple days? thanks in advance
I did it once a week, for only 2 weeks.
What is your natural hair colour?if i have black hair, can i do it everyday and spread it all over my hair from roots to end?and minimize the water amount
my hair is dark brown, and I'm not sure how it would work with black hair, but it will probably become a lighter brown after a while.
Did your becomes dry after wash it?
I was doing it about once a week (whenever I washed my hair) during the summer! :) You can do it whenever you want because it's non-damaging to the hair. I find it makes my hair so soft and full!
I have leftovers of the mixture. Will it be ok to use it again in 7 days?
It really worked on my hair.My natural hair color is dark brown .I made this mixture let it sit overnight and I applied it on my hair and then I left it for 5 hours the longer your put the mixture in hair the more light hair you will get .And then I washed it with normal tap water and after my first attempt I was surprised that how the color of my hair changed I have just done it only once and I will also do it several times .Thankyou Sarah for sharing this marvellous recipie . It's hard to tell in my other videos, cause the lighting makes it look different every time. But this lightened my hair a shade or two :) Not a dramatic bleaching difference, however I just wanted it to look natural (like highlights from the sun). Thanks for watching :)
Honey has cleansing properties as well so it doubles as a cleanser (if you don't wear makeup) so you can use it everyday! I sometimes will use it everyday. It definitely won't clog your pores! I would do it at least once or twice a week though. I'm so glad you like it!!
leave it on however long you want! I usually leave it for about 1/2 hour. Do a patch test to see if the cinnamon irritates your skin. You can just use the honey as a mask as well :)

Olive oil is supposed to be the best "hydrogen peroxide booster" However almond oil should make your hair really soft. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you! :)
This treatment definitely lightened my hair, however it isn't like bleaching your hair. I would say this treatment lightens you hair as much as the sun would lighten it in the summer. Some people have said it lightened their hair a couple of shades :) Give it a try, and let me know how it goes!
You need to close the mixture with a cap to let the peroxide develop! It is totally useless if you leave it open for one hour.

I tried this remedy three times at this point and here's what I have found:
1) This is not magic (obviously), but it does work.
2) My hair is dark brown with hints of chestnut-colored strands, and I feel like my hair is about 2-3 shades lighter.
3) I only saw results after the second time of trying out this remedy.

It's does work, but you need to pay attention to:
1) using distillated water, because the minerals from the tap water can change the pH
2) let it sit for one hour
3) doesn't matter the time (like, sleeping with this in your hair) but hoe much your hair is wet with water and honey
4) if you choose not to use cinnamon it's OK, or you can use cardamon
5) it's OK not use the olive oil too, you can try only water + honey (
6) also, if you don't like olive oil, try coconut oil
Can I use boiled and cooled tap water?
Can you storage
Dark honey & cardamon is better than the products mentioned here. Also, the best olive oil is in a dark coloured bottle so the sun and/or light can the alter it. Olive oil in a clear/light bottle is not considered a good olive oil.

The first time I tried it, I saw no changes, but I started to do this every night when I went to bed, about a week later, my dark brown hair was lighter. But if you want blond ombré you'd have to do this for a LONG time or get it bleached professionally

I just wanted to say that I'm using this mask for about three weeks, every Wed. and Thu., and my dark reddish-brown curls are starting to lighten in such a lovely shade of dark gold. Plus I've never had such light and shiny hair. Thank you very much for the advices, for me is working amazingly.
Do you use normal honey? The honey I have is kinda brown idk why her honey is so light
Tried this. It definitely works. My hair was noticeably lighter after the first attempt. I used clover honey and filtered water...still worked. I am probably going to do it a few more times to get my desired color. But I love that this is natural and it looks natural.
hey ☺️ how long did you leave it in?
I tried it today, and I say it totally works! I have a very light brown hair color (i was blonde as a kid) and it has been lightened by the sun and sea throughout the years, so I had golden tips already. But with just one application, my hair is slightly lighter, with very light highlights. It looks like an ombre! It is even softer! 100% recommend. Will use about 5 more times to get even blonder!
I was blonde as a kid too. Now I have dark brown hair. 😢
I just tried it and it works! I have really dark brown almost black asian hair and after one treatment it didnt make a huge difference but like it's definatly brown now whereas before it usually looked black. Thanksss for the tutorial! :))

I'll definitely try this. However I would much rather use a spray bottle. You can shake it to mix the context every time and then spray. Minimal mess.
I do that with every liquefied products I conjure up.
Thanks for this recipe!
Maybe I'm 5 years late but..
I'd just do it in a bath tub after washing my hair, then wait a bit then wash my hair again with shampoo. It'd not be messy at all since it can all be rinsed off in the bath tub, and I've heard it's not harmful for the skin anyway
I put in some hair mask with the mixture you showed here and honestly, my hair was so full and moisturised after, like when using henna! Even if it didn't lighten the hair, I know the honey really makes my hair feel amazing so I'll be doing this weekly from now on!
Why didn't it lighten your hair? Is it because you used henna before? I used henna 2 times and now I came across this video...so not really sure if its going to work on my henna hair
I've done this (It works on thick, curly hair as well!) but I always mixed the cinnamon into either a conditioner or DIY Hair Mask (Avocado, Banana) and received great results over time. I did it in-frequently but you can notice the subtle change from my natural black hair while the ends and upwards/midlength are a lighter color that gives beautiful red-natural highlights under anylights and especially the sun!
I'd recommend using Paprika for a red highlight, Cinnamon for a light honey- colored highlight and Cocoa for a dark tint!
JaiProdz you mean that i add honey with cinnamon only ??
omg sorry for the late reply. You *CAN* but that would be a really nice scalp treatment, i'd recommend adding an olive oil or conditioner so that it can be distributed evenly thorough your hair as well.
Do you use normal honey? The honey I have is kinda brown idk why her honey is so light

Guys!!! This really worked!!
My sister was asking me what have u applied to ur hair they are looking so much. Actually many parts of my hair has been highlighted in blonde-brownish colour . Just the thing i added in this mask is apple cider vinegar.
so i’ve done this only 3 times and i already love the results. my hair was like almost black but now you can tell it’s actually a dark brown😍 (UPDATE): i went shopping with my mum and she thought i died my hair😂. i will say that it works way better on the ends of my hair than the top? idk why. but it’s a really pretty contrast

I wanted to ask if I can use this on my eyebrows too so it can match my hair?! 😍
Thanks again ❤️
Omg I needa know all the details
how often did you do the mask?
Did you make measurements if so what are they?
And what do mean by brown hair is it light brown? dark brown? medium brown? ash brown? chocolate brown?
Sorry for all the questions I have super dark brown hair and I want it lighter so bad
@@bored6453 haha sure! I done it once a week sometimes twice
So I have really long thick hair so I take 2 tbsp of honey ,mix it with a leveled tbsp of cinnamon then a tbsp of olive oil and I don’t measure the water i just add it till its a mask like consistency, neither too watery neither too thick, mix leave it for about an hour and apply. I normally apply it in the morning on a day when i have lots of chores and work to get done at home and then take a shower towards the end of the day so like 5+ hrs for sure but that’s your choice.
id say its the closest to medium-choc brown hair. But the thing is, my hair still mainly looks dark inside but when the light hits it a certain way wether its the sun or unnatural lighting, its this cinnamony chocolate brown and in the sun its literally honeyyy gold like i said so my hair can be so many different shades which i love 🤣
Thatss ok if you have any other questions id love to answer them!
if your hair is dark brown, mine was literally black its definitely gonna work 😍😍 ps its quite messy tho so i always do it in the toilet so its easier to clear the mess anyways do lmk when you do it ! Xx

If you have dark brown hair, lemon probably will do nothing for you. You might need to use honey to lighten your hair. Natural honey contains a small amount of peroxide which lightens your hair. Cleopatra used honey to lighten her hair and skin. Just because it's honey, doesn't mean it won't cause some damage so it's best to condition your hair well afterwards. The ingredients you'll need are: room temperature distilled water, a dark-colored honey, virgin coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil.
I use a large soft paint brush to apply my hair products.
It works really well.
I'm gonna try it on the ends of my hair everyday for a few weeks to try and get an ombre. I'm allergic to real hair dye so I really hope this works! Thank you so much for the great tips!

This really works! I did it every day for 5 days while I was on vacation. I wet my hair, put the mixture in and went to the beach and layed out in the sun for an hour. I don’t know if the sunlight helped make it lighter, but my hair is now brown, and the babyhairs are even lighter. I am back home now in Norway where there is no sun, I am going to keep doing this and see how light I can get my hair. My goal is a caramel color

Haha yeah 2025 now. We were kids when we came here for the first time!
me watching this at 11:40 pm with the mixture sitting in my hair, trying to stop regretting all my decisions: 👁 👄 👁
no unfortunately
char you’re supposed to see results after a few tries
First time using it: I forgot to let it sit for an hour oops, but I let the mixture sit in my hair for a few hours (around 4 hours). After that I washed my hair and I noticed little to no change. I naturally have some lighter parts, but I noticed nearly nothing. Maybe those parts where lighter. But I'm not sad! I must start somewhere :)
Second time using it: This time I actually let the mixture sit for over an hour and I let it stay on my hair for about 2 hours. After I noticed my hair was actually a tiny tiny bit lighter! Im actually excited to continue using this method. Yayy
Third time using it: I let the mixture sit for a bit over an hour and I let it stay in my hair for about 2 hours. Honestly i didn't notice any change. My hair was still a tiny tiny bit lighter but not noticeable lighter. I'm still excited to continue though!
Fourth time using it: I let the mixture sit for an hour and I let it stay in my hair for 2 hours. I think it's important to mention I don't use water, I'm only doing the mixture with honey, olive oil and cinnamon. Anyway my hair is actually looking a tiny tiny bight lighter, almost nothing. I read in a comment that you should let the mixture sit in a container that has a lid, so I'm doing that next time.
Fifth time using it: I let the mixture sit for an hour and a half in a container with a lid and after I let it stay in my hair for about 2 hours. After that I think i actually noticed my hair was lighter!
Sixth time using it: my hair is definitely lighter :) just a tiny tiny bit but I’m confident it’s working. I left the mixture in a container with a lid for an hour and a half and after that I left it in my hair for two hours. Next time I’ll leave the mixture in the container longer and also longer in my hair.
@Btsarmy RM I'm still doing it every time I wash my hair, so about 3 to 4 times a week.
Btsarmy RM I’d recommend you leave it for at least 2 hours. The more the better I’d say!
The water is what activates the peroxide in the honey to lighten the hair.
YALL THIS WORKS! Yesterday I made the ingredients, let it sit, put them on/in my hair and then washed my hair. Today my mom told me my hair was lighter. I’m gonna do it tomorrow again.
I wish she’d done a before and after pic because her doesn’t look light after doing this treatment 6x she said...
I think it does look lighter
Your Haiku it’s not a miracle worker. someone with dark hair needs bleach to go blonde, this will just lighten it a shade
ua-cam.com/video/_sc-8HadeSE/v-deo.html you can see it’s much lighter in this video
You can use also camomile and coconut oil lighten your hair very effectively too!
You can also dye hair with turmeric it works wonders. Turmeric has been used for years I've been using turmeric on my face it bleaches the hair on your face and also lightens skin. I could only imagine how light I could get my hair if used it on it.
How does that work? Will it lighten the hair?
Victoria Martinez STOP doing it right away turmeric inhabitants the hair growth therefore it can result in hair loss. Do some research people are using it to get rid of unwanted hairs.
I used cinnamon on my hair and got red burn marks down my face - be careful with it!
Honey releases the peroxide slowly during the dissolving process, the raw honey will dissolve much easier than honey thats already been processed. And I think, though i could be wrong, processed honey doesn't have as high peroxide content. Also hydrogen peroxide is light sensitive, i find it works best if I use a container that isn't clear and cover the top with foil :D
This also works on beards too. Got rid of my gingerness with this method. Can add the cinnamon to the final conditioner to boost the effect. :)
would it matter if its creamed honey or regular honey?
So cute
I think it doesn't matter

Just wanted you to know you've inspired my day, thats all :) Thank you from Spain, Alex.
Having it sit longer will actually make the hydrogen peroxide develop better! I've heard of lots of people putting it in spray bottles, so go ahead! If you put it in a spray bottle, you can spritz it before you go out, and go into the sun:) The sun will help make it lighter. Hope this helps. :)
omg that explains a lot..
I always had dark brown hair with tendency to black so it was black/brown kinda
and I used some masks for my hair to strenghten it and I didn't know I was also make it lighter
I wondered why some of the parts of my hair are more brown/red than brown/black
honey was the solution 😀 I will use it from now on thank you ;)
"completely natural"
No I think this is actually GOOD for your hair :3
It really worked, my hair is now lighter! I didn’t use raw honey tho, just normal honey. I put it in my hair for 1h only
Do you think I can do this every single day? I have light brown/kinda blonde hair, but I am going to a wedding and I want it lighter without damaging it with regular dyes. So, if I use this every day will it be significantly lighter? Thanks (:
Lighteners usually are more effective with heat as a catalyst (like drying your hair in the sun!) You can also try chamomile (:
I’ve used cool camomile tea for my blonde hair to brighten it. It works the nicest when you are in the sun for a couple of hours

How long do you have to wait in between lightening sessions? Can you use it once a day or do you have to wait longer?
I have medium black hair, tried this today for the first time and here's my thought:
I have no problem rinsing oil and cinnamon off my hair with shampoo and conditioner, took me just one round to wash it off, however I had really hard time getting cinnamon off my face and it burns, so tried it at your own risk especially if you have sensitive skin. My hair didn't get lightened but I will keep trying for several more time and see. Will update if I see anything different.
It's works on your hair?plz rply i have medium black hair too so plz rply shoul i try or not
I have medium black hair unfortunately it doesn't really work for me :( I even use shampoo that has vitamin c (ascorbic acid in it) everyday, my hair maybe just got a tad bit lighter but not much at all, still pretty dark

I know this video is super old, but I’ve been trying this, and my mixture never gets that white layer at the top, even after resting for an hour. So because it’s not getting the hydrogen peroxide, I don’t think it’s working in my hair. Any tips, or things I might be doing wrong??
Will my hair turn out darker if my hair is already blonde? I just want my roots and such lighter
Gracie Sargent hey! if you are blonde DON'T use cinnamon because that will darken your hair. Use lemon or chamomile for blonde hair.
Now I know why it didn't work before. I was using shampoo and conditioner that are full of silicones. This very gentle lightening treatment couldn't penetrate my hair because of those nasty stuff! Now I switched to natural and I know when I try this again, it will work. ☺️
q - r I haven't done it again, just yet.
Does it work on black hair , please tell me🙏🙏🙏🥺🥺
How many days it will take for black hair...?
Does this turn your hair from red-ish hair to brown or will it just lighten it to more vibrant red color?
Cause I put red henna in my hair about one and a half month ago and now I want my hair back (dark brown ) but a bit lighter.
No it will lighten your hair. To remove henna, wash your hair frequently and do oil treatment too. It will take 4-3 months to get rid of henna from your hair.
oké two questions, can I use camomile tea instead of water? and will it also work with coconut oil?
I love this after using this mask for about 30 times my hair is now brown and am still using it i love it so much 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

This may be a silly question but why don't you just use hydrogen peroxide? Its the same molecule whether naturally sourced from honey or made in a lab. You can add a known concentration so you can control how light your hair gets
Victoria Nicol-Smith because store bought peroxide has some very damaging chemicals in it, it's not just peroxide. This way the peroxide is all natural, non- Damaging elements.
echolps. I tried this Honey-Cinnamon-Olive oil recipe and I had no results AT ALL. I gave up and decided to use hydrogen peroxide and baking soda instead and my hair was perfectly fine. I didnt lose any curl definition at all.
because this way you condition, add moistur and shine to it at the same time :P
Can you apply the mixture onto dry hair?
I was just wondering if this would work with raw but liquid honey? I have raw, it's just in generic, liquid form.
Awesome ! Can i use chamomille tisane or just keep using distilled water? Which one is better to get lighter hair?
I use raw organic unfiltered 100% natural and that alone gave me beautiful highlights
