Łódź Ghetto Money - Born from Tragedy 1942-1943 | Rare Bronze 10 Pfennig

In 1939 the Germans invaded Poland and the Jews of Lodz were forced to live in an enclosed Ghettor prior to being shipped to extermination camps. The coinage in Lodz Litzmannstadt Ghetto was exclusive for the Ghetto as was the bank notes.
This is a tragic part of our history which is important to understand and not forget.

That coin is a true piece of history, a glimpse into a single place at a single moment in time. I have a couple of these in aluminum, they may be contemporary counterfeits, I'm not really sure, but the story they represent needs to never be forgotten.
The history of the WW2 era is what got me into coin collecting. This time period, and Nazi Germany in particular are the focus of my collecting, and what drives me to maintain top level NGC registry sets. There were many changes in coinage from 1933-1945, especially in occupied countries.

Yes the period of human history when humanity showed how ignorant humans are I am a student of this period since my mothers family mostly killed then and as I grow older I seem to want to understand why even more .now in usa we see a replay of the 30s in action it’s very scary to see this so cant imagine how much worse it was in 1930s. Thanks for sharing i was not aware of these coins I have seen German coinage of the period I have a lot of the paper money from my grandfather which despite age has little value thanks again
