I know this is 9 months old, but i was surprised to find out, that swift playgrounds 4 actually supports uikit as well. Theres still stuff swiftui can't do, like access the camera and such, and i figured hey why not try some uikit and see if it yells at me. It didn't. It worked. Insane haha no objective c, but it can do pretty much everything
“It gives me the results that I want, and at the end of the day, thats what matters. Well for photo editing” I would say that true for all productivity.
I loved seeing what apps you highlighted here! I’m an artist and art teacher, and while I have a computer that I use for a few specific tasks, my current illustration and webcomic workflows function entirely and enjoyably on an iPad (Procreate, Affinity, ArtStudio Pro, reference apps, etc). I’ve sort of just had to shake my head at the trend on UA-cam lately to gripe about how the iPad “isn’t professional.” Sure, there’s still certain workflows it’s not great for, but it really depends on what you’re doing, and simply “not professional” strikes me as painting the iPad with way too broad a brushstroke. For some of us, it’s already extremely able to handle what we need out of a work machine, and while I hope it only grows more capable for other workflows, for my own, I’d have no issue describing it as capable of handling professional work requirements.
I recently discovered your channel after your collaboration with Noah Herman and sounded immediately. Absolutely amazing content. I have been using my iPad Pro 10.5 as a solo productivity device as well since it was released. Mostly with Procreate and Affinity Designer. But even so many years of usage I am still learning about new apps. So thanks for that!
I spend my weekends binge watching your content! Absolutely brilliant. Honest, well-spoken, and informative. I can’t wait to see you at 1 million! Always keep it up.
I love this channel just stumbled across it a few days ago. I have been using the iPad as my main device for like 2 years now but I have a lot of struggles with my personal workflow as a student, designer, and developer. I have problems at times and have debated getting a new laptop to replace the iPad but you are giving me hope that I can do this
Some other apps that I would recommend: - Concepts for Sketching, drafting out ideas, etc. Especially because of the infinit canvas. - Shapr for doing CAD work e.g. for a 3D printer. I’m not good with this but it feels really intuitive when I tried it. However over all a really good video. I just wish it arrived earlier because I had to do all the research myself already ;)
Nice to see a video with what you can do on an iPad rather than the downbeat ones moaning about what you cannot do? The learning curve is maybe why many YT creators tend to recommend Mac apps (they want on the iPad) rather than make an effort to work off the iPad with what is available? I get that, as they have put in the hard work, and now are fluent in their workflow. But, for the younger generations, and those starting off, it is possible to use the iPad for many pro workflows and taking in that context can be a positive experience.
Exactly on point. The iPad has genuinely a lot of apps that can be used for professional work. It’s not going to replace a $5k plus desktop setup with a cintiq, but it can come surprisingly close
As you say, the UA-camrs whine about the iPad Pro because it doesn’t run the apps in their workflow on the Mac. If Apple released Xcode, Final Cut Pro, and Logic Pro, you’d stop seeing all of those “No, the iPad Pro cannot replace your laptop” and “the iPad Pro isn’t pro” videos. What they don’t realize is that those are apps, not the OS. No, the software is not holding back the iPad Pro. What’s holding it back is the inability of UA-camrs to see past their own apps. If their apps aren’t there, the iPad Pro clearly isn’t pro…. to them.
I have been using the iPad Pro from when it was first launched in 2015. Every time I wanted an App for a specific job, I did some research and downloaded the best App for the job. I use my iPad Pro for everything from running an international business to playing music, to editing my drone videos and it has never let me down. I do occasionally try using a Mac at work and always get frustrated. The iPad Pro is the device I know and love. If you know what is available and how to use, there are very few things that can’t be done with an iPad. The reviewers talking down are mac users, who are just not happy that the iPad does not work the way they know.
Well done as always, Chris. The only thing that I can think of that would make your videos even better is a clickable time index in the description. Such as 12:15 Mojo and 13:19 Ferrite. I refer back to your videos and I also refer others to your videos and I have to scrub through looking for the section that I wish to review.
I didn’t realize that I’d already downloaded some of these apps, but I didn’t have a good idea of how to use them effectively. You’ve done an excellent job of laying out easily how to use this great tool-my iPad-in more useful ways. Thanks for also adding channel and video recommendations for deeper dive tutorials, too. Great work!
Very specific question - at 13:50 you drag-to-select a section of clips in Ferrite Pro. I've been trying to figure out how to do *exactly* that, but my app just scrolls the timeline when trying to establish the drag area. Is there some sort of setting you ticked or some trick I'm missing?
Are there app that you exclusively install on the iPhone or iPad? Any app that you have on both? Just trying to understand your organizational thought process…
Hey please help! I bought iPad Pro because I watched your vids… I absolutely love it and I’m way more productive now! But I have an issue, when I dump photos from my card straight into light room… my iPad storage fills up quickly! How do I get them to go into my Lightroom cloud and off my iPads internal hardrive! Please help me out!
Totally agree on the photo library integration. LR is way behind on that. I’m a big fan of PixelMator Photo because of the UI and intuitiveness, but also the photo library integration. I just need them to add selective editing.
Great video! Shapr 3D is pretty cool too, Vectornator, Adobe Fresco, Adobe Aero, RightFont, Forger and I'm sure there's a lot more. If you're an architect, interior designer, industrial designer, graphic designer, you can create your own 3D objects in Shapr 3D, export them to USDZ and create AR experiences with Reality Composer right there in your iPad. You could even create graphics in Keynote and use them in Composer to create AR experiences as well. It's a great device.
Hey Christopher! Two off the topic questions... Please is that the 11 inch iPad and did you have the paper like screen protector on your iPad during this video? Thanks
The general public who will use the new M1 iPad aren’t all in creativity field, like me only wants a reliable with longer OS Support, fast processor, multimedia device, surf the net, privacy at its best is all I need. Schools, business enterprises and other fields of productivity workflow benefits from it, If iPad will run most of the Mac Apps, imagine, most creators will probably switch to iPad to be their all in one device, thus cannibalizing the Mac Products sales. Apple knows which and what matters to their devices. Great video! New sub here.
nice video, the whole video is about iPad and its app. the long sponsored segment which relates to Mac and not iPad appears kind of unnecessary in between.
Love your stuff dude, ever since I decided to switch over to an iPad from a MacBook came across your channel and it’s awesome One question I can’t decide is, if you were to give your own bit of advice Would you recommend 12.9 or 11” ( I know you get asked this a lot ) Thank you.
Chris, what are you talking about. There are no pro apps on the iPad. Did you not watch WWDC? Great selection of apps and I think the reason Lightroom shy away from the files app is because they want you to take advantage of their cloud services. Also... I need your shortcut for grabbing all the info from UA-cam! Are you going to release it? P.S 100K hype!
There are so many free photo editing apps which all do more or less the same thing. I really dislike subscriptions so I won’t switch to Lightroom. Adobe will never tempt me as long as subscfiption is necessary.
Does Blink have Files integration like Shellfish does (so that it is it’s own storage provider, I think thats what it is called)? I’m currently looking for a good SSH client. Termius is too expensive with the subscription model and Shellfish doesn’t support Mosh. So if Blink has Files integration like Termius I’m sold.
@@ChrisLawley yeah. I use it most for mosh-ing into a $5 a month Linode and running Vim w/ Tmux for my Python development. Very elegant solution for what it is, especially as I’m basically doing command line Dev work on an iPad. Mosh is what makes it work for a mobile device.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while. So many UA-camrs saying the iPad Pro doesn’t have any pro apps. I got to wondering, are there enough pro users prepared to pay using the iPad to support pro apps? How many iPad users are prepared to pay $30 per month or $120-$360 for an a iPad app ? When there are enough I suspect we’ll see a reverse catalyst to aid making Mac Apps work on the IPad
"I'm not an artist"- creates a well edited and put together video with good lighting and sound that is both pleasing to look at and listen to.
Ha thanks!
@@ChrisLawley Yeah man you gotta give yourself more credit. You're a creative and an artist, you're just not a draftsmen or one who can draw well.
Such videos are so much better than a vague iPad review imo. This is now my go-to channel for everything iPad related!
