11:34 - I don't get it, why they don't also add there the option to restart, not just shutdown. Why can I ask Siri to restart the device, or create a shortcut, but the main menu doesn't have that option.
For the home section on the control center you don’t have to delete it. You can long press and select what accessories to add to that larger view instead of just doing the Siri suggested ones.
10:55 - There is no need to long press, just tap on the bottom right area where the icons in the submenu are shown. The same principle as in the App Library.
Fun fact, with iOS 18 you no longer need to long press on most things in control centre to get the detail views, including the media and connectivity widgets
People should be extremely careful about updating their iPad to iPad OS 18. I have an iPad M1 Pro which is a year and half old, when I updated my iPad to 18.0 I have multiple flickering black lines on the screen. Apple support just said they can’t repair it and they need a new iPad price to replace it or else I have to live with as long as I can😢. Never thought apple could release an update that can destroy your iPad.
Let's talk about a mention of iPad being able to format external drives, not just read and write files? Is that in 18.0 or one of the beta for 18.1? Want it, but need super-proof that it won't chew up my internal drive or any externals i have saved? 22:00 Lawley tells us a bit. 22:30 format will erase it TOTALLY. Can encrypt. I need more details on this topic but good start.
Only thing I really want from ipad still is clamshell mode. I wish stage manager was updated its still gimmicky. Being able to customize the control center is awesome it sucks you cant swipe up to close it anymore though. I also like being able to adjust widgets on the fly now too.
This is an awesome review - I am glad it was released today so I do not need to watch a competitor's video. My favorite features are the calculator and reminders improvements as well as the dark icons - so nice to see something new. When Chris mentioned journal is not on Ipad I was reminded about the app and reminded myself why I forgot about it - since I use Day One. Yet would love to use Journal but must be added to the Ipad - I refuse to use it from my phone. I wonder if they are not releasing it because they don't know how to integrate apple pencil with handwritten entries since they know we would want that. This makes the Ipad really complete - I agree they need to come up with some compelling improvements to justify people buying the Ipad Pro version - I need to see that before I update my Ipad Pro in the future even though I could upgrade now - I choose not to since I do not see the value in doing so - no compelling improvements to justify the premium of buying a pro. I am confused that since AI is limited to having a new Iphone will they do the same with Ipad or make it available to Ipad users? Hope Chris can address this in a future video.
Apple still hasn't fixed the prepend/Append to textfile-bug in Shortcuts. In short: If you have a shortcut that asks for text input, and you then tell it to prepend that text to a textile, it doesn't do it. If you take the exact same shortcut and tell it to append the text, it works fine. This bug appeared in iOS17, and is still unfixed. Yes, I have submitted bug-reports.
Yes what you said about how tinting should really work. I think I have an image in my head of what this looks like, but I know it will be better than the current one.
I was told Apple was pulling the 18.0 iPad0S updadte from iPad Pro M4, because it was causing devices to be bricked…not sure if thats true or not. Im still on 18.0 and havent had any issues and ive been on it since the RC
Given how often Apple designs by the 'just do it our way and you'll like it' philosophy there's a lot of apprehension in how much intelligence there will be in Apple Intelligence.
I cannot at the personal hotspot widget that large on the connectivity page, it always goes to another page. Do you know why Chris? I want to have it as you as a large icon in the connectivity page
Okay, this video is an overload of useful information. One (of many) things that disturbed me about the iPad was not being able to use passwords on external drives...that made no sense especially when traveling. I was not aware of the new encryption feature ....thank you for sharing that!!!
Many people seem to expect the iPad to eventually replace a desktop computer, but each year, iPadOS seems to move further away from that idea, or at least is stagnating. Perhaps my understanding of what the iPad should become is flawed.
IPads have been replacing computers (PC’s, Macs) for many, many years. The problem that so many people have with this idea is that they define what an iPad or PC is by their tasks, not by function. There are near-infinite everyday things you can do on both formats and people buy PCs and iPads to do those everyday things. However, as soon as someone tells you what a PC can do that an iPad can’t do, the iPad is suddenly “not a computer”. This logic is flawed on many levels but the primary issue is that of physical functionality. The essence of a computer consist of specific hardware and software built and configured to specific standards. This means that everything from smartphones and watches to fully-optimized PC systems are computers. Call them by the kind of devices they are but they are all computers with various levels of functions and processes. So the idea of some people saying that an iPad is not a PC-replacement because it can’t do super resource-intensive tasks is categorically false. I’ll bet most people who buy PCs use them for the same kinds of tasks that iPad users do. Both are computers. People also buy PCs for very technical applications that iPads can’t do or struggle with. They are still both computers. Again, it’s about how these things function, not by the tasks they do or don’t do.
@@housepianist good points mate, however I've emphasized on iPad OS, not the device by hardware means. The problem how I see it, is about the iPad OS besides it's great UX not becoming better in terms of allowing doing everyday tasks, which users do on PC but on a mobile device, which in fact has all required capabilities by hardware means.
Ipads are great for art, I used it with Clip Studio Pro. Apple should take advantage of that huge market and actually create a tip with a textured feel, they're missing out on a "Pro" Pencil
@@housepianist I couldn’t possibly disagree with you more. My iPad Pro is significantly MORE powerful than my Microsoft Surface, but it’s still not a PC replacement because it’s just so much worse at the majority of everyday tasks. The iPad OS versions of standard office programs like Microsoft Word is just terrible and multitasking on it, even with Stage Manager, is tedious at best. From a hardware perspective, the iPad is more than up to the task. The software is just really, really prohibitive. There’s nothing stopping Apple from enabling MacOS with tough functionality on an iPad if they wanted… they just won’t do it because it would hurt MacBook sales.
@@Bootus123 we just have to agree to disagree. it doesn’t matter about the ability of the software to do what it does. It doesn’t matter if a piece of software on a PC is more capable than the same software on an iPad. What you can and cannot do on PCs and iPads does not define the PHYSICAL nature of a computer. They are just different kinds of computers. That’s it. I have an M2 iPad Pro and I use it to do many things within its parameters and many things outside its parameters. It’s kind of like saying a Ford F350 can tow and carry way more than an F150 so that makes the F350 a “real” truck and therefore, more capable than its smaller sibling. The F350 is most certainly more capable but that doesn’t demote the F150 as some lesser vehicle. They are both still trucks at the end of the day with different levels of capability. It’s the same with your Surface and iPad Pro. They are BOTH computers by defintion with different levels of capabilities and performance. Seriously, look up the word “computer”.
