I love winter fishing, it's hard to think of better times than when I am ice fishing. So far this has been a very mild winter. Not until mid January did we see anything colder than -20C. Well It got very cold. It was -40s with wind chill factor this past week! Therefor when I looked at the weekend forecast and saw this was the last cold day but there was no wind I had to go for it. I didn't feel like waiting another week to go fishing. So glad I did because the afternoon bite was awesome!
I easily caught my limit of two lake trout but was able to land and release several more. This lake being a good multi-species lake I was expecting a mix of fishes but it was lakers all day. That is fine because when they turn on the fishing greats exciting!
Just a friendly reminder that I wasn't fishing this cold weather as a means of pride, I just really wanted to go fishing and working a full time job I am restricted to weekends. Fishing in weather this cold or colder can be dangerous, even deadly! The trick is to not stop moving until you are set up. Once I was in the shelter with the propane heater burning I was completely comfortable. Again, at the end of the day I wasted no time. Once the shelter came down I didn't stop moving until I was back in my truck.
I hope you enjoy this video. Cheers and tight lines everyone!

What a day out there! Super entertaining to watch. You've been the trout master this winter. Lakers, Splake, Brookies! Unreal. Great to see fast action like this. Trout stocked or natural are so much fun. I got my first bow through the ice a few days ago. Was pretty pumped. Something about trout big or small that just make catching one feel much more rewarding. Maybe it's the coulor patterns. Stunning fish!

Hey Nick! Ya you got that right. I fo 80% of my trout fishing during the winter. Winter time is trout time! Big or small they are exciting to catch! Can't wait to seethat rainbow. I've only ever caught rainbows ice fishing in Manitoba and I have a week in March up there... I'll be bringing my ice fishing gear.

Beautiful calm day - I would be out there as well. Great job, I have still never caught a laker.

Oh boy I think you need a road trip to northern Alberta. I think there are some lake trout lakes in the north east region ;)

Sunrise, to sunset? Up there... Isn't that like- three hours? LOL. I am actually kind of jealous. We have had nothing like that weather. Its just chilly rain, mostly. Great lakers, dude!

Hahaha we are north but not far north lol. Our shortest day of the year is still like 9 hours of daylight. Right now it's about 10 hours. Only 7 or 8 weeks away from the equinox. You must be itching to cast for bass, am I right? Cheers bud!

Our one week of winter lol, the following weekend I was slaying perch out in the open and temperature was zero.... maybe warmer. What a difference one week can make!

Haha ya, the extra line was an afterthought. Next time, I will drill a hole 10 feet away for the second line. It did get me one of the nicest fish of the day!

@@differentfins that it did. Jawjacker or tip up 💪

@freshwaterfishingwithadrian I am thinking about bringing a jawjacker next time but I won't set it. Use it for a rod holder and put some bells on the rod. Let them suck on the bait sitting on bottom.

@@differentfins that’s really smart thinking! I didn’t think of that!

Jawjackers make a nice compact rod holder actually. But I can't wait to set them up for some late season walleye. Late winter days above zero are just the best!@@freshwaterfishingwithadrian
