Thanks for uploading this! It was a big part of my childhood. That’s me there playing Tom St John. Can’t believe my British TV debut line was “you smell like a tart”.
I’ve just come across this series & I couldn’t be more happy. Today, March 24th 2020 - the day after Boris Johnson announced we *all* must self isolate for a minimum of 3 weeks & only leave when absolutely necessary (& I have to self isolate for 12+ weeks).. It’s been an eery & difficult day. Knowing there’s a plethora of period dramas to watch on UA-cam has somewhat helped my mood; I’m sure it’ll soon pass. As for people saying they’re glad times like this are over.. we’ve learnt so much from these times, let’s not be so hasty to shove it in the background. Thank you so much for the upload! Especially at a time like this. Much appreciated & I hope all that may read this are staying safe & well x

Just started watching this. I’m struck again at how some parents place entertaining above parenting. Sadly, it still goes on today. I raised 6 great well behaved good children and managed regular dates with my husband and friends , but I never left the raising of them to day care.
@peacenow42 It isn't, I think, about judging those who use daycare so much as a comment upon the way things are nowadays. Times have changed beyond recognition. Even iIn my early adult years it was possible for a family to manage very respectably on one wage, leaving a parent, usually the mother, at home with the children and attending to the care of the family on various levels. Part time work was often supported by family [grandparents] living close by. I knew women who worked, had careers and relied upon daycare, but those were very few and far between. More often than not, the older generations of family would take care of the children. i preferred to create work that could be done with the children around, so I was always there and they always took precedence. Honestly, I think the old ways were far better although I do appreciate all the arguments I've heard supporting the ''new ones''. I'm still unconvinced. Seems to me that modern parents have a hard time of it and I feel sure the children don't benefit as much as claimed.
Well, not everybody is lucky to stay at home and raise their kids. I assume you took care of them everyday, cooked from scratch, scrubbed the house from the bottom to the top with no help whatsoever, no cleaning ladies and of course you had still plenty energy to go on dates with your husband. Yeah, sure
@@justines8160 Yes I had 7 children, mostly born at home, and am still working from 4am or so most days, certainly in winter, but regard it more as a way of life that suits me perfectly because I'm happiest when doing something, especially if it is a something i enjoy. Mostly outdoors, almost always physical so scrubbing the odd floor is a nothing task. I do grow our own food, always have, and am so hopeless with packet stuff I find it easier to cook, though will freely admit that I am not sorry my baking everything days are over. I just do bread and the usual stuff now, like jams etc, for family and friends. And you are right - it is really sad that women are fiscally forced to work all hours away from home if they would rather not but then, for some, its something that suits them. And no, I have never had and would never want a cleaning lady. I am not sure what I said that would give rise to that idea?
People did you know! How do you think the human race got to this point! And they did without the appliances we take for granted -no hoover no dishwasher. And they pumped water, scrubbed doorsteps, blacked their own grates and hand sewed a lot of their clothing. They got up at dawn and worked hard until they had no light. Women took pride in their work at home, even those who had to also work outside it. And men appreciated a woman's touch.
I love this show,…especially right now when I have been feeling so terribly depressed. It’s on of the series that comforts me temporarily somehow. My Primary Care doctor yelled at me and snapped angrily at me for bursting into tears when talking about how seriously depressed I am and I don’t know how to handle this. I thought maybe THIS show would take my mind off of that horrible experience for a bit. Thank You for posting all episodes!!❤
Just a warning: don't start watching these if you want to feel good about life. I binge watched all 10 episodes and now I just feel fantastically depressed. I really wish I would've watched something more cheerful. I'm afraid it'll take me at least a couple days to get past this melancholy feeling ☹️
@@scathatch , yes it's definitely well acted and I have nothing bad to say about it, except that it depressed me. For someone who is not as easily depressed by sad stuff, this would be a very good pick.
SPOILER ALERT: It is a mix of conditions. I watched to the end too, and I disagree with you. Lydia flourishes and will likely have a very happy life. Mattie works it out eventually and assuming the time in Africa is not too dangerous, she'll marry Ned and have children. He'll find the right work for himself easily. Hannah will have a cloud over her always, and her future seems quite perilous. She should have left Billy with Mrs B and tried to find another way to save him from typhus. The crazy thing is now she is chained to Isabel and her nasty husband who will probably have his way with her or drive her out. And when Billy is sent off to school, dear God. Mrs Sinjin's husband will pretend the baby is his and they will go on. Constance and the peer will be solid into the sunset.

B/Square is, hands down, one of the best Canadian/British TV collaborations EVER. I rented this years ago on DVD; loved it so much I immediately purchased the series....then invited some of my best buds to watch it early one Friday evening - and I had to kick 'em out during the wee hours Saturday morning. They simply do NOT make television like this anymore. Each character is unique ("Maddie" is the most similar to me, my friends say) and I could not imagine this mini-series being as successful as it is without ANY one of these three principal characters. I love them all. (And yes....I DO think Lydia and her butler ended up happily ever after!!) ♥ ♥ ♥

Women have come so far but it's been a slow slog with many more goals & years ahead. As an old white man, I recognize how advantaged I have been all my life while others have struggled to be treated as equals & with basic fairness.
Woman here. Um...I have not felt disadvantaged. Worked my way through college, lived at home and took buses. Worked full time while going to grad school at night. Worked lots of hard jobs. but I don't feel like white men oppressed me and feel its sad how white men are told they must feel guilty simply for being born.
Well it's December 2018, and I've been waiting 8 months for the next episode on Downton Abbey to come on PBS. Last one I saw Lady Mary's husband died in a car crash she had just had their baby boy too. So sad. I never cry watchin movies let me tell ya the tears we're fallen. Lol. They are one of my favorites. No cussing, decent movies are hard to come by. So in January 2019 PBS is going to start showing the rest of the series. I can hardly wait for my Sunday evenings. Lol. Incidentally, when you said "degrees" you referred to the use of the "Farenheit" scale, correct? Because FYI the Celsius scale is also measured in "degrees". Greetings from Norway.
for those browsing the comments to see if this series is worth watching,..the answer is.............. it is!
Thx you
Thanks!
Thanks. Have been searching and searching for something to watch.
😁🤗
@@flaneur8609 me too. I don't know why I love to watch these period shows so much, but Downton got me hooked.
Thank you so much! Loving it 🥰
I have always enjoyed british sit coms and drama's! I'll have to watch more of these. Thanks for the upload! 😊

And from Portugal, where I binge-viewed the series in 3 days & am starting again to review the intricate plot. Such a relief from watching the awful world news ! Muito Obrigada !
Love watching Victorian period dramas
The Victorian era ended in 1901 with the death of Queen Victoria. This drama takes place in the Edwardian era.
This was such a good series. Loved the characters.
Preciosa,me encanta,qué esté subtitulada en español.
Gracias.
no logre poner los subtitulos :(
Mrs Bronowski is my hero. Watch the whole series to learn all of the reasons.

That was brilliant! I wish there were more episodes.
One of my favorite series!!
I loved this series and wish it had been extended.
The strength of women. Whew! This is my second time rewatching this series.
I've lost count...
It's such a nice series ! 😄
I really liked that series! Seen it on DVD a few years ago! Pity, that there was no second season!
Thank you so much for this series 🙌⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I worked in Belgravia last year. Yep the place was grand! Mainly owned by those from Dubai and Saudi now.
Right, Europe is one foot in the grave already, and goodbye centuries-old civilisation....
Women have come so far but it's been a slow slog with many more goals & years ahead. As an old white man, I recognize how advantaged I have been all my life while others have struggled to be treated as equals & with basic fairness.
Well said and they’re threatening to turn back all the progression has been made.
Woman here. Um...I have not felt disadvantaged. Worked my way through college, lived at home and took buses. Worked full time while going to grad school at night. Worked lots of hard jobs. but I don't feel like white men oppressed me and feel its sad how white men are told they must feel guilty simply for being born.
Thanks for uploading 😊
Oh, I haven't seen this series before, awesome! My favourite kind of programme, so civilized compared to what is shown these days!
You can find recent shows very similar to this, and there was plenty of stuff shown back then that wasn't 'civilized'.
The world was so small back than..only so much for the upperclass and jobs were barely there paying pennies..rough tough times for the many
This is great . Thanks so much . A very interesting and compelling series
Gawd, how grim... Glad these days are long gone
kendahke Amen to that
What about them is so grim?
Cheers for the upload 🏵️🤗
When women looked like real ladies lovely😊
?🙄
Yeah, where are the crinolines and underwear? Oh that right, they didn’t wear any. Seriously. They did. not.
Thanks for the subtitles in spanish.
Regards from Argentina.

Absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much xx
Great movie! On to part II, thanks for sharing
I agree with you and I am on part IV.
This is a wonderful story! Many thanks for sharing.
If you enjoy this series I would recommend The Buccaneers also from the BBC. I missed it from 1995 but found it recently. Love Michael Kitchen.
Qué bueno haber encontrado esta serie, gracias!
Muchas gracias. ¡Excelente inicio!
Lol. So if I enjoy those so much I know I am bound to like this. Only hope that I can find the complete set. Thanks guys for uploading these outstanding videos for all us U Tubers. Lol.🤜🤛
It is complete. According to other viewers, a second season would have been wonderful.
Netflix has Downton
@@deepoca1151 totally agree!!😊
@@elizabethblackwell6242 thanks!!!
How cool is that! Thank you for sharing. 😊
Una de las mejores peliculas que visto😊
I love that blue outfit she wore early on.
why cant women dress like that today.
they'd look so classy.
Yes, I can just imagine walking myself into a modern day supermarket on a 40c day DRESSED LIKE THAT!!! 👀🤔
@@catherinepositano8544 thats why they were always passing out and had servants got to do all the work you could barely breath let alone go about daily buisness like shopping
@@tinamiles9328 Women constantly passing out is a myth. Also, the dresses aren’t as hot as people imagine. Here’s a wonderful video about how 19th century womenswear really is: ua-cam.com/video/0wHTgi51z6I/v-deo.html
I was a nanny I loved the job I looked after a boy took him to the farm and shops the mother was very nice they had a gardener and cook she bought me some lovely grape glasses she didn't realise my grand father was a lord
A lot of "posh" girls are nannies...such as the later Princess Diana. It often used to be the thick ones who were just waiting to marry someone with a "position" and were incapable of learning.
@@jwsuicides8095🎉❤❤😢🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
So your father was a peer ?
Did he pay for your education ?
If so, I think you should ask your school fees back...
These are good! I hope I can find the rest of the series.
