    Really wonder if a lot of folks just forget the triple digit Olivers (770, 880, 990) existed sometimes haha

    Oliver was a great machine. Wished they still made em. Towards the end, they were the best looking tractors in my opinion. Loved the color scheme, and the grills were very nicely made.

      I agree. A lot of tractors were nice, but the Oliver's were the prettiest by far.

    Oliver's were always such great looking and dependable tractors. I use to see tractors sitting in fields rusting, but they were other brands. The Oliver's were sitting in sheds and barns. Like a difference between a Chevy and a Cadillac.

    They actually made an articulated steering Pan Scraper out of the 99 series, there's a short video of it making a pass somewhere on the tube.

    I used to get to run around on a Cockshutt 1900 in the mid-70’s in Alberta Canada. Nine year old me always wondered why THAT tractor sounded just like the road grader, but it’s little brother the 1850 sounded like all the other tractors I knew about. That version with the front assist was way ahead of the rest. That big old military diff was a happy accident, and that tractor was a lot more nimble than something like a 1066 IH with that oddball open u-joint hub they had.

    Nice job on the restoration the industrial 1900 they could've done a better job on taping of see there is a bunch of overspray on the front tires

    • @mfranzusan3014

      The tires weren't all that great. Only one industrial lug tire on the back that was probably orignal. The fronts being steering tires weren't orignal. They wear out like crazy on any ground. It also seemed to be pointed uphill, which means that either that size of tire didn't translate to a newer size/different manufacturer or it wasn't available anymore.

    Well Mr auctioneer you didn't mention the three digit Oliver's they had a horizontal grill on them!!! They went from the super two digit series to the three digit series and then they went to the four digit series!!! The three digit series had more cubic inches and more horsepower than the super two digits!!!

    imagine comparing that to the deere 830 of the same time. Other than being kind of squat (both of them), talk about polar opposites.

    • @thegreenerthemeaner
      @thegreenerthemeaner 2 роки тому +1

      Without a doubt, the 1900 was ahead of the 830 in about everything but fuel economy and noise. But the changes Deere had in line were far more graphic. Oliver never abandoned that transmission or shift pattern. The Hydraul Shift was a definite winner but I always thought they should have went to a 5 speed with no range selection. Now, think for a moment what a 4cyl engine made out of a pair of 2 cylinder engines would have yielded in torque. A 730×2= 752 Cubic inches, hp of 120?? Torque to change Earth's rotation if you had too many of them headed the same direction at the same time.

    • @cdjhyoung
      @cdjhyoung 3 роки тому

      Considering both tractors are about 60 years old and the generator to alternator upgrade was common across the industry, you might only be seeing a past owner's upgrade of his equipment, not necessarily a factory change or upgrade.

    I’ve never understood way so many tractor manufacturers used Detroit engines instead of Cummins. Much less torque with the 2 stroke. I’m sure there is a reason.

    • @mfranzusan3014
      @mfranzusan3014 3 роки тому

      Probably the technology in the steel when it comes to the transmissions. You usually found the Cummins in the big Versatiles. The big articulated machines that used transmissions that incorporated planetary gear sets like an automatic in a car.

    • @randymagnum143
      @randymagnum143 3 роки тому

      Not sure what you mean, the super 99 gm tested at Nebraska put out 504 lb-ft pulled down to 1309 rpm. Seems rather healthy to me. A 453 will hold on long after a 404 Deere or 360 farmall give up.
      Nebraska quit doing a pull down tq test in the late 50's, only to bring it back in the 80's labeled as tq rise.
      Not to mention Cummins didn't have a reputation for 100 hp class diesels, and all the 4 stroke v8s of any manufacturer were not worth the iron they were made of. Cummins didn't have a good small diesel until Case designed the b and c series for them.

      @@mfranzusan3014 the 671 in the 8010s proved more than Deere's powertrain could hold.

    • @thegreenerthemeaner
      @thegreenerthemeaner 2 роки тому +1

      @Randy Magnum 8010 Transmission was from Clark and the axles were Eaton. Deere put it all together as a working show piece as IH also had a large articulated tractor with even more power. It used the old 800 dozer engine with direct start. Hough built the frame as IH and Hough were almost merged by then. Deere recalled the 8010s upgraded the weak points and rebadged them 8020. The Clark Michigan M290s the military used had mixed success. Some guys thought they were a tough machine. Others thought them weak. I know there was a company refurbishing them and also upgrading them into some potent prime movers.
