Potatoes are cheap, and these kinds of Jacket Potatoes are quick and easy to make as well as filling, hence why it's a staple. I'd also say try it yourself before you knock it! Fluffy properly done potatoes with the tomato-y flavour from the beans, and the salt from the butter and melted cheese is quite nice.

I’m Japanese and when I first had British food I was surprised by how tasteless it was. But once I got used to it, it wasn’t too bad. Their taste is very natural.

There are a lot of misconceptions about what we consider 'traditional' British foods, one of the main ones being the difference in how they're cooked or handled in general. We do season food when necessary and have plenty of wide options of strong flavours if you want them, but most 'traditional' native British food usually utilises high quality ingredients that have their own hearty flavours to begin with, and then we add small seasonings here and there, because we prefer not to overpower the actual food. (e.g. a dinner with roast beef may be cooked with as little as some black pepper and rosemary, then served with horseradish, as to not overpower the cut). I wouldn't call it mediocre at all, it's just a different culture to those you might find in Asia or perhaps the American south.

I kid you not, U.S bread would be classed as cake in the U.K since it was so sweet, and beans I also assume would be sweeter. When I eat out I get only from local places. But I have that luxury living in NYC, there's a ton of local places. Some of my friends here get McDonald's, dominos, taco bell,subway,etc and I let them hear it and remind them where they live. But regardless, I'll take food carts over McDonald's any day of the week.

I loved baked beans when I was a kid and I grew up in the culinary world of Spain. I also loved HP sauce and a kind of mayonnaise with vinegar I don't remember the name.The cooks around me shook their heads. Well made scrambled eggs, delicious. Lamb with mince sauce.😊
