TBH, I subscribed to HGMM for a bit, but I found the presenters to lack the panache that you generate. You bring a lot of vibrancy and charisma to the topic and it's why I keep coming back. Mentoring them on their presentation would go a long way in my eyes. I will definitely give it another shot though
I totally agree. Sadly form is as important as content and videos with poor video quality, audio quality or presented in a sub-par way will be trampled by other creators, even if the content is good... For example I love the gardening tips here on HGMM and it's the reason I'm still subscribed. Well shot, well explained etc... Can't say the same for all of the contributors to HGMM though. Please take this as constructive criticism because I believe that there's space for a channel like this.
Steve, at your heart, you are a teacher. It it clear from every one of your videos. Your style has evolved over time, sure, but that core idea is ever present in your WWMM videos. Unfortunately, HGMM suffers from the "too many cooks" conundrum. There is no ONE person who is pouring their soul into this passion project (other than you, of course, but you are mostly behind the scenes). That makes it hard for me as an audience member to grow attached to HGMM like I have with WWMM. I know that you have several returning creators, but not knowing if I'll ever see them on this channel again makes it hard to care about them. Besides not knowing IF they will come back, we also don't know when. I don't want to get notified about 3 videos I don't care about for every 1 video I do. To be clear, the concept behind HGMM is great, but I feel it needs an on-camera "Steve Ramsey" in each episode to really have the same impact as WWMM. That said, THANK YOU for your positive contributions to my Friday's. I appreciate seeing you every week.
I been a Patreon of WWMM for I think over 2 years, and will continue to do so, because you provide so much inspiration, and motivation us folks to get out in our shops. Your videos show us not to worry that the project did not come out "perfect", and that mistakes will happen. Thank You for pointing out HGMM has a Patreon page, guess I must have missed that Ha Ha. WigWag Workshop, will be happy to chip in on Patreon, because you featured The MidwestManMountain. Kris, went out of his way, to help me with my Raspberry plantings.
Steve I appreciate your honesty in coming forward. So often a good channel just drops off without so much as a farewell vid. General DIY channels seem to always struggle to find viewers. Thanks for keeping the lights on.
Steve - yes, you are crazy. That of course is what makes WWMM so wonderful. That and it is focused like a laser beam on approachable woodworking projects. : )
I really love the idea of the channel. I watch some of the videos, but far from all. The ones I watch most consistently from the "Mere Mortals network" are the WoodWorkingForMereMortals and MidwestManMountain. I feel the videos by yourself and Kristopher are the best quality. I do enjoy some of the other hosts and topics though. Thanks for bringing it all together.
It might help if there were a little "news" video every once in a while with upcoming contributors and stuff like that. Tom and Kristopher - who seem to be the two mainstays - are easy to know what to expect (both are good in their own ways), but the "rotating" others seem to just randomly appear in my subscription box every so often and kind of get lost amidst everything else. Maybe passing around the thumbnail template (with the white curved side panel for the title and logo) would help too, so they'd stand out more among the sea of thumbnails.
I'll echo the sentiment presented in some of the comments here. For a start it's very usa-centric, which isn't unusual per se but for something that presents itself as a DIY channel to empower viewers instead of a generic how-to or simply entertainment, some of the content is just hard to relate to when you don't use imperial or have access to the stores you have in the US or any of those little details that leaves the rest of us quite detached. I also found some of the contributors to be ... rather mediocre in quality. Some are really good, I really like Christopher for example but others have either poor video production or simply not very interesting content. I think it may be helpful to help some of these contributors to improve the quality of their own content as a way to ensure longevity. Your own content is very well put together Steve and always a pleasure to watch, maybe the HGMM contributors could learn a thing or two from you.
I would love to have an option that is capped every month. A per video contribution is open ended enough that I don't know what I am contributing. I might be willing to pony up $5/month but at $1/video I don't have that option. Just an observation.
imafiguresk8r Thanks for thinking about supporting the channel. You are able to cap your pledge at whatever amount you'd like when you're setting it up. We only post (max) 5 videos per month (1 each Saturday and occasionally one during the week).
Essentially all the revenue Steve earns through his patreon for his Wood Working for Mere Mortals (WWMM) channel is going into another channel (this channel, HGMM). It's obvious his original WWMM channel is suffering in quality of content and it's clear he is strung too thin to produce the original quality we're used to. I understand your passion and wanting to expand your business to cover more than just the casual woodworking......BUT ever since you started HGMM your original channel WWMM has obviously gone down in caliber. I loved all of your original content in WWMM and I've literally watched everything you have ever put up on that channel, but now it's just not the same. With your recent addition of 'WeekendWoodWorker' course, you're not even producing a video every week. Heck, I even looked forward to your second channel "Mereminutes" just to catch up on post project reports and your personal life, but that has pretty much come to a complete halt. Sure it didn't get the views, and I understand that, but the commercialized and extremely scripted new content on WWMM is just not what WWMM used to be all about. It's not fair to your supporters to take the money you've earn from the original channel (WWMM) and dump it into this channel while the channel your supporters are sponsoring obviously suffers. Please put more effort in WWMM and stop using the money you bring in from it to support another cause. People have supported you through WWMM with the idea the funds will go back into WWMM to increase the content and quality. Spending it on another cause is essentially embezzling. Bring back the wacky, unscripted Steve that used to make jokes and unscripted puns that got us chuckling. -sincerely a long time fan...
food for thought... the people who are in the mindset of doing wood working (awesome channel by the way WWMM) are going to be crafty or handy. I noticed you'd like to reach the beginner, but you throw power tools in there & automatically it's stigmatized as "difficult". This could be where HGMM , is not getting the views. Plus, you're not producing products where anyone could make much money. This kind of goes back to you trying to reach the beginner, & are doing projects for personal use. just some thoughts I had. keep up the good job on WWMM
now i'm here BECAUSE they use power tools. I follow a few craft channels and they aren't 'enough' for me. I don't do 'paper flowers' for example, but i'd love to know how to build a trunk. Anything he makes here you can make with hand tools, but its so much longer, i've done it before. I"m in the process of getting my channel up and going, and right now I have more videos then I do subscribers. noted my content isn't very good either. and i would really love to see more 'things to sell' as well! but thats me!
Appreciate what you do, but to me it's very usa centric. Consider bringing stuff from/for other countries. It could be interesting even for USA viewers.
In reading through some comments I have come to the conclusion that you are unlikely to ever make this channel profitable. Too many folks are focused on things like you using power tools or what country your content producers are from. They let these things stop them from seeing the valuable side of your channel. Folks will constantly be telling you to change this thing, or get rid of that thing, get this person, or cover this topic. You seem like someone who wants to please people, nothing wrong with that, but lots of viewers will take advantage of you because of that. Just my cents.

WigWagWorkshop Thanks so much!
Holy crap. The financial overhead is mind blowing.

Sean C we'll keep trying to curate helpful content as long as we can! Thanks!

havenisse2009 we're always looking for new creators! So far, we've only received inquiries/response from U.S. based creators but we'll keep trying!
I don't understand why the location of the presenter matters. I don't care where someone lives as long as the information is valuable.
I have to say that host of this channel are lifeless a bit like they are scared to be themself or show their character.
