Overhead knife attacks - leverage and moving offline

This is an excerpt captured during class last week two things, how we as practitioners would and should attack with vs how the untrained usually attack with a knife.
Although many knife attack / knife defense techniques you find online would be useful against an untrained assailant, you should always train for worst case scenario. Always assume your attacker/opponent is highly skilled. When your life and health may be on the line, do you do just enough to win or learn and train the skills that should almost ensure success?

Nobody raises his knife like screwing a lightbulb...well, maybe in series Z horror movies.
The fact is: anybody with two functional neurons and a sharp knife can make a couple fast feints and fck you up horribly.
Better run for your life... "defense" against a knife is almost as silly as against a gun. If the wielder is non completely stupid, your chances are close to zero. Stop telling people otherwise, it's dangerous. Roleplaying can kill.

You are correct. There really is no defense against a skilled knife fighter. But statistics prove very seldomly is a knife attacker skilled.
The safest “defense” is attacking with your own blade or superior weaponry. Run if at all possible.
