Boxing is over 3000 years old. In the "roman times" they boxed with ox skin wraps filled with led. Often until one of them died. imagine those movements..every punch ment death. Every "non defensive boxer" can face some sort of damage to the brain. To take defence serious is very important even today.

Hi Coach Anthony! Do you have drills for learning and improving defense while training outdoors on one's own? With social distancing and since I don't have access to a good boxing gym anyway, I need a way to train and improve my defense skills alone. For training in general, I came up with a few ideas with some good old DIY. For instance, I use a tree when I'm in a park or a lamp-post in the yard in front of my building as a mock opponent. That works for throwing punches but not for defense. Thank you.

covering up is what people need to learn most of all...and moving at the same time as you got your high guard up and tight. Cause using the high guard to wade absorb the jabs and other shots, getting inside and bombing on them with hooks is very useful; its part of my main strategy in muay thai(and involves me throwing leg kicks, of course, and other strikes; but the standard high guard stance is identical in both sports, and boxing techniques usually work very well in muay thai, just with more strikes available like kicks and knees in sparring).

If you have a skilled friend with a small ego who you can trust in sparring, it always helps to go 75% speed the first 2to4 rounds (depending on how many rounds u go.) Use those few rounds to really work on the techniques you are most uncomfortable with, especially footwork, and distance management. The more days you can do that, you will find those techniques start to move from the first four rounds at 75% speed, into the last 4to6 rounds at full speed.
      Best of luck friend.

    • @saltestentta4444

boxing is the only comat "sport" i know of..wich that EVERY. technique of offence comes from a realistic stance of defence. Every punch is a guard and an attack. at the same time...it is only "in between" the the punches that there is an opening...that is where the bravery comes in..to fight back is the best defence..

feint the jab with the step. like a double step with a feint, then jab and straight. if he circles, feint the straight and go with a hook. leaping left hook is good if you feint and they step back.

Just a question and maybe a vid idea. i see a lot of people saying push a punch or say no no only snap a punch. i see this in beginner and even upto some competitive boxers. i personally snap alot more on my punches but even i something full to pushing my punches.
would be good to have a basic and simple break down on snapping vs pushing.
