I live in NE Thailand and have tried unsuccessfully to grow on coffee trees planted from when they are 1 year old. Most of the coffee in Thailand comes for cooler and higher north of Thailand.

I love coffee, I live in Malaysia and I want to grow some coffee beans. Maybe FRiM can help but I'd be interested in hot varieties that would like to grow with bananas. I'm working to grow banana trees in barrels so the trees can be moved around and intensely fed compost for fast production. Growing coffee under these trees would be a good idea. I'd like to try roasting the beans too.

The narrator keeps referring to drinks that don't really need high quality coffee (pumpkin spiced latte, Starbucks, morning flat white (if you add a lot of milk)) yet saying robusta doesn't taste "as great". If your standard of coffee drinks contains sugar, milk and flavourings, you likely won't be able to appreciate the subtle notes of high quality arabica beans anyway.

I quit this year. Coffee and caffeine is not good for your health, it's a bad habit. Frankly, coffee itself is bitter and doesn't taste great. Starbucks is a hype machine and ruined many family businesses, serving up tons of sugar and fat laden "coffee" drinks. I was in a coffee co-op many years ago in Costa Rica, before Starbucks. Local coffee was very inexpensive, cheaper than coke, even the poor could afford it. Everyone just boiled the roasted beans in water for 20 min, and added sugar or fresh pressed cane juice to taste. That was the best coffee I ever had.

How about paying a more fair price to the producers? sometimes I got the feeling that we just want to improve quality and incomes without take actions at the root of the problems. As many as other crops, very often, companies that transform the crop into the product(s) really don't pay enough for the raw material from the producers and it's a shame.
Three time technology won't solve the problems, we (almost) already have many of the technologies needed, and since producers are in low income country, we're just putting technology between us and the producers, which at the end will end up to a bigger gap.

I don't agree at all with the opinion "arabica beans have a superior taste to robusta". For us robusta drinkers, arabica beans are much less caffeinated (in fact, just contain half as much caffeine as robusta), which makes it's taste bland just like coffee-flavoured water. It's personal preferences, so don't compare apples to oranges

The problem with coffee production is land management not changing temperatures. Predictions of climate apocalypse are nonsense.
