I am a Biotech student and watched this video just to see what people say about my choice of study. It's important to say that Biotechnology is not only based on Biology. In case you like Biology a lot, Biotechnology also features a heavy amount of Math, Chemistry and physical rules to chemistry as well. It's quite interdisciplinary. If you like studying and learning, it's the Major for you.
This video gives a totally wrong definition of biotechnology. Genetic modification of plants (Green Biotechnology) is the least important biotech branch regarding to the market share. Way more important is for example the red (pharmaceutical) biotechnology. E.g. Insulin is produced biotechnologically.
It’s a great kids definition of Biotechnology. Common misconception, however. the genetic modification improves the product yield and quality of plants chemicals and materials produced. Insulin was discovered in dog poop. Without some of the genetic modification strategies implemented in plants we wouldn’t be able to produce insulin in an effective way.
@@zoubex5436 Insulin was extracted from the pancrea of pigs. But then biologists (NOT biotechnicians) made a breed of E.coli (a bacterium) which produces insuline and made it much cheaper to produce large amounts of it.
I’ve been considering being a biotechnologist when I’m older but I didn’t quite know what it was. Definitely know it’s what I wanna do (but maybe with people)
I am going to study biotechnology in high school to become a pathologist or a surgeon because it's the most science/ medicine field related subject they teach at the high school I'm going to
French biotech engineer here. we don't make corn resistant to insect, but bayer/monsanto make corn glyphosate resistant seed. The effect on the environment is not the same The main advantage of biotech is to create biomolecules that chimie can't really produce (such as insulin, hormons etc) And btw, music + sfx is TOO LOUD

There are many pathways to take. Currently biotechnology is on the rise market wise. You'll get a nice buck out of it. It's just important to note that it's not an easy study. Lots of Math, Physics, Chemistry, a sprinkle of Biology and long lab practice hours. You can choose Green Biotech (Plant Modification mentioned in the video) Red Biotech (Medical Research, Medication Modification) or White Biotech (Laundry Enzymes to make it simple)

Biotechnology is making a product or performing a task by using microorganisms or parts of microorganisms. For example making beer is biotechnology. Or using organisms for cleaning the water at a sewage treatment plant. Or making biogas through the use of microorganisms. Or "making" yeast. Or making sauerkraut. Or making natto. Or making insuline. Or making antibiotics. Or making enzymes. Or making amino-acids. The main task of most biotechnicians is to manage bioreactors. However the video is very well made nevertheless.
My advice: never couple loud, distracting music with information. There's other video's on UA-cam that handle this content in a better way. Your way is going to cost you subscribers.
