scott bradlee here. since a lot of new ppl are here... if i label a song as "Janis Joplin" style or "Frank Sinatra" style or whatever, it's meant as a reference point for the musical style of the remake. It does NOT mean that that is who the singer is trying to sound like. they're not impersonators. they have their own unique styles. the OG subscribers know this already. also on rare occasions i just call the genre whatever i feel like just to mess with ppl. -ScottBradlee
AWESOME! LOVE IT!!! Just one small criticism if I may: "Her boyfriend's named DAVE... He'd simply kick..." - Why not Rick, or Mick, (or Nick, but no one likes that name, so maybe not Nick).
I just wanted to thank you so much for keeping the pronouns the same! Not only is this a great version of the song, but it's so nice to be able to relate to it properly. And it also gives a fresh twist to the same lyrics, which also elevates the already high quality. I absolutely adore this track, and its story of the shy lesbian crushing on a popular girl. Thank you for making it happen!
I really appreciate this comment. I've been loving each of the songs in their own right, and this is one of my all time favourites. There's no need to sound exactly like a particular artist to pay homage to their style in your own way. There's been too much negativity in the comments lately over very petty concerns.
Check out the drummer in Iron Maiden, the man is having the best damn time every time he's playing (Highly recommend the video to Different World, the video is of when they recorded the actual track for the album)
David Velano it makes you sad that people don't watch American Idol? No one did, that's why it's off air. It's all rigged anyway. Lol! I watched The Voice for the first time this season...and watched beautiful talent get sent on their way while semi-talented Karaoke singers stayed. AGT did great with Grace...then in the UK, talent was flushed for a comical "act" that the judges actually took seriously. Two words: Honey G. That's why I don't watch. I'd rather see her here where she's appreciated.
all the people complaining about her squeaking at the louder higher bits ether didn't read the title or have never heard Janis Joplin sing. because that is how she sounded. hence this being a Janis Joplin style cover.
It's also a "Janis Joplin STYLE" cover. It's not Janis Joplin. Nobody is Janis Joplin. Elements of her unique style were taken. And this singer, Jax, is outstanding in her very own right, as she emulates music icon.
tbh while I like this singer I think she was the wrong choice to sing this style of cover. Imo Haley with her natural rasp would have made a better fit for this one
If you think this is Janis Joplin's style, you misinterpreted her just as much as these people did. Just because this girl sounds like crap doesn't mean that she is singing like Joplin; Joplin would throw everything she had into the song, this girl is relatively reserved.
Loved this. I think Jax did a fantastic job of putting those quavery, shaking, just-can't-reach-'em tones to use to make that curdling effect which really suited the theme, making her sound like as much of a dirtbag as the lyrics describe. Really gets that adolescent self-disdain feel down. And throw in Scott's belting out the backing piano chorus theme in a fashion almost reminiscent of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, and well!
I was just listening to PMJ yesterday... got me all nostalgic and I ended up listening to listening to Teenage Dirtbag yesterday too. Now y'all musta been reading my dream journal or something cuz this is pure wizardry!
this is one of those few covers that within the first 5 seconds you already know its gonna blow your fucking mind and put it back together and blow it again.
As a rule, all pmj videos are fantastic, but this one is just pure amazing. Hands down one of the best ever made. I especially love how they've played with the song to make it more joplinesque.
And the award for the happiest drummer alive goes to Chip Thomas! Made me smile af. Terrific remake of a very catch tune, have you heard the Scala & Kolacny Brothers remake of it with a childs choir? Terrific too. And Jax, holy shiet, that voice.
You've made my day for a couple of days now. This song (cover) makes me feel so sad, and so happy. It's stuck in my head, so i have to come back and listen to it. I know I'm "late to the paty" as they say, and that one comment just blends in with all the other coments, but still, it was great - really makes my day.
Rikimaru LDR Oh, I get it. Sorry, didn't want to be rude but I misunderstood what you were saying. To answer your original question, I would have commented on one of those comments but there were so many of them that I just decided not to reply to any of them and post my comment unattached.
So, I've listened to this an unhealthy amount of times in the last few days. I love PmJ, they're amazing live. I know this is a couple years old, but hope Jax is still playing with them, would love to see this live.
Saw this sung live at House of Blues, New Orleans. She is awesome. Glad she got to celebrate her 21st Birthday in the greatest party city in the U.S. The original Sin City. Great night. Great Band. And growing up in New Jersey, I have to say this was a great choice of song for Jax. Only a Jersey Girl could do this song justice.
Scott Bradlee I love what you do!!!! These artists are absolutely amazing and their styles make me appreciate the music I already love all that much more! Please keep doing this, these are greatly talented artists and I love how they enjoy the music as well!
I enjoy this singer's singing style very much, she is just awesome. One can't expect anyone to sing like Janis Joplin and I think this singer is not trying to.
I loved it! The moment she started singing had me clicking on the Like Button. The arrangement was a bit off by incorporating Janis' Piece of my heart on the choruses but overall it actually is listenable. It's good, not the best ones but I still enjoyed it. Thanks Jax and PMJ!
this has to be one of the best singers i've seen on this channel she has a breathtaking voice and even just from watching a video of her i can see how much e n e r g y she has and she puts her all into it and she sounds SO AMAZING.
@@madelinegriffin8166 Word. As a NSFW/Porn artist, there's nothing sexual to it. The squeaks are just cute/adorable. Not everything has to be sexual, it's okay for things to be cute, adorable, and attractive.

I am a huge fan of Janis Joplin and I am so happy that you nailed it with the sound definitely sound like her last album Pearl that is one of my favorites of all time thanks pmj!!1

The correct lyric is "Her boyfriend's a dick and he brings a gun to school..." They changed the lyric for whatever reason in this version.

This is probably my favourite Postmodern Jukebox
The little sqeaks on her vocal is everything!!
That break in her voice does something to my insides 😊😂
The power she puts in the word Maiden in the final chorus is so good. Gives me chills.
Am I the only one who appreciates how high quality the video looks?
It goes up to 4K so yeah :)
No, but thanks for pointing it out as I am more taken by the music and the singing.
Nah. My friend. But that is the Quality PMJ delivers allways.......... High quality music. Through and through💞💞💞💞💞💞💞☺

Guido Conrad shes Jax from American idol season 15 ! And her style really is distinct.
Guido Conrad True. Very distinct tone
season 14
Sorry... Sounds like a "squeaky toy". Just sayin.
That's debatable
Hope someone still here, on repeat. Great version.

The look on the drummer's face is lovely. Clearly enjoying himself.
Nice to see.
all the people complaining about her squeaking at the louder higher bits ether didn't read the title or have never heard Janis Joplin sing. because that is how she sounded. hence this being a Janis Joplin style cover.
She doesn't sound anywhere near as raspy or harsh as Janis did. That's what made Janis such a unique talent.
Janis sounded like a chainsmoker, not someone trying to tie a balloon.
It's also a "Janis Joplin STYLE" cover. It's not Janis Joplin. Nobody is Janis Joplin. Elements of her unique style were taken. And this singer, Jax, is outstanding in her very own right, as she emulates music icon.

This is one of PMJ's very best. It's fabulous. The spirit of Janis hovers over this song.
Those squeaks are so raw... such a great voice!
Contrary to the majority, the squeaks make this cover for me. Incredibly unique and frankly adorable.
Jax and her voice ring my bell! What a woman, and what a voice - like a beautiful bird singing
Gray Man i scrolled down all the way here just to find someone else who know her as well
One of the best covers of Teenage Dirtbag I have ever heard. She really sounds like Janis! 🤩
The closest we'll ever get to Jax's version of Teenage Dirtbag (From Noel's Perspective)
HONESTLY

i love the tone better, I think it's lighter than their usual "jazzy feel". A bit tinge of country flavor for me and it worked like magic! Love it!
Could they do a cover of Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac

With Haley doing the cover
Has this been done yet?
That vocalist is absolutely amazing. I'm speechless

Da Voice of Janis 😍

*_I don't think you guys coulda found a better person to sing this. Purty sure that Janis Joplin would even be impressed._*
