- Yngwie J. Malmsteen talks about following interview on video "The Ultimate Guitar Tape - PLAY LOUD! [The BASICS]"(Japanese subtitles, 1995).
1. Talk about THE ALBUMS & SONGS (00:00:00-)
2. Talk about THE STRATOCASTER (00:02:25-)
The guy doesn't have nearly as big an ego as people like to think...
It's hard to be humble when you're this good.
He such a cool guy i met him after a show in glasgow recently and he's really genuine. I dont why folk think he is an ego maniac.
He's so awesome!

Honestly I don't understand why Yngwie gets so much shit, what with people saying his playing has no feeling and that he is an egotistical prick. I disagree completely. His playing has its niche and no one fills it better than him. If all you hear is a ton of notes, you need to open your ears more and appreciate that all those notes together say something. And as for his personality, I haven't met him, but that kind of ego is something that a lot of people get with success. Its more common than you think.
And he actually seems like a pretty nice person to me.
well yes you get some kind of ego, but not like this, at least for guitar players. Most of the worlds top guitarists, Paul gilbert, Steve vai, Steve morse, Nuno Bettencourt, don't have an ego, or at least don't let it get out of hand. Yngwie on the other hand is just an asshole, especially in the 80s and 90s. Luckily he has toned down his attitude a bit with age
Anyone who thinks his playing lacks feeling, ironically, lacks feeling for music themselves. His music and playing is just bursting with feeling.
Good interview.
I listen to neo-classical thanks to Yngwie !
it's a god
@MeetyHam It stays in tune better without the string tree if your using the tremelo alot cause the string tree tends to "drag" and keep the string from going back to its original tension (tune)
@MrNebelful
love the energy man! tnx for the comment..
for whomever is still talking shit about him, first: learn how to play like him, then talk.
putting his cigarette on the guitar like a boss
@NisseEricsson got a friend to help with the translation, she said it means something along the lines of "do/will you ever sell your main guitar" or somethin like that.
He is my Guitarhero
He's beautiful and talented. :P
Thanks! You too if you play music.
6:48 that’s a .046, Yngwie.
ah sweet i understand why strats are amazing and very versatile great for blues, rock, metal hard rock, and neo classical, and then the neck is thin, and it has the wammy bar and they can be light thats why i prefer them over a lot of guitars and especialy les pauls, i mean use a bc rich warlock, ive played telecasters and ibanez's but once ive also played a standard strat it was only a squire but my god it was amazing, never played anything like it since
"... you gotta have a ferrari sticker on the back - otherwise it's not good..." haha hes awesome xDD
thanks for the upload!
amen
to wilma even though I agree with many of your points one of his main offerings to the human race is that he's made many life's like mine so much fun learning his material or in my case struggling to learn his material maybe not so fun at times but lol whatever happy new year
少しずつ英語が聴けるようになった🎵今までさんざんイングヴェイさんの声聴いてきたから。
Far beyond the sun is THE guitarsong.
@MrNebelful... I agree. Why is it that speed & complexity in classical music is a valid means of expression, yet on an electric guitar it's dismissed so readily? Well, you've probably heard the saying, much as it pains me to repeat it, but haters are gonna hate. :(
Can I ask? What does taking away the string tree actually do to the sound? Does it tune easier or something? :)
i think that the new malmsteen strats are the best ones!!
13 years later Yngwie doesn't smoke or drink so thats why he's a better guitarist now. I like his whole catalog of music. I know some of his best playing and songs were on Trilogy. His 1st record is in a class of its own.
Apparently it gives a warmer sound or something like that.
Thats what i heard somewhere.
Why isn't the song before the first interview there, he played a 24 fret stratocaster on that and I wanted to hear what kind of songs he needed that extra octva for.
@sucramnormark it was actually a thing eddie van halen did on many of his concerts
My fav Yngwie album is Marching Out, but Rising Force is as good. I can´t decide which is best.
Best regards with your project then man
Can someone translate the japanese, I want to know what the questions are. Specifically the question at 3:25.
where can you get the brest nut? sorry if i wrote brest bad lol
does the brass nut make a difference?
the background melody is fantastic... Bach?
@cjetelomar2010 He uses Duncans if I'm not mistaken.
Yes I actually do. I think his compositions are just as good now as they were back then. His music is heavier without a few love songs that would be on his older cds. Yeah I know he's heavier but he's older now. It happens.
Red ♥️🍒
yngwie is my favorite guitarist. only becomes most of his songs i actually like listening too. IMO, he plays insanely good, and his stuff sounds somewhat musical. not like most other really good guitarist, whos music just sounds like random noise, lol. anyhow, thats just my two cents.
I see very huble and polite Yngwie. He is not arroganat at all. :)
'cus he's got some awesome melodies going on in his solos. besides, it's all taste
Nolan likes Aaron style
Yngwie and Ferrari...very fast
Ya he's okay here, but check out some of his other interviews...
Odyssey rules!!
His Pick is Dunlop Delrin 500 1.5mm isnt it?
@bosnaisgreat and TIME magazine!
I would like to know what the Interviewer asks him. First it was Jimmy Hendrix who got him started on his playing then Richie Blackmore and later. The Classical Composers Like, Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi and Bach, Paganini. Yngwie no longer smokes or drinks.
the only problem with fender is that it doshent have 30 frets
probably just for the look it isnt needed jumbo frets do the same thing scalloped frets do.....just to a lesser degree
he is taleneted hes a good rock guitarist i mean he cant play like yngwie but hes a good player.
i don't hear it, but are 0.08mm - 0.48mm
3:20 what did they asked him
You did not see my point. I mean, that is this video he is polite and humble. Sure i have watched his other instructional videos, and I must say, that I have learned something from those...
anyone lse notice he said 8-48 but the thing said 46
wish i kne wat the questions were because like at 3:40ish tehw rititng comes up and little tune he just goes "no never" and then the little tune and next question apear lol
look at his face in 7:04 when he shows his pick hahahaha
3:23 Why not????
those were the strings he used...and yes, he said it wrong lol it's 46
Yngwie is so cute
Aaron escajeda

Escajeda

I don't really care for Slash, but I'll admit that he has style.
イングヴェイさんは、楽しんでギター🎸で曲作りしてる。
Yeah, all the great ones smoke including my fav, george lynch
2.59 I do! :)
@sucramnormark He no longer Smokes or Drinks.
@cjetelomar2010 Amen brother.... Couldn't have said t better myself....
@cjetelomar2010 I'm not quite sure man... But i'm sure there will be a story behind the story... They weren't paying, he wasn't getting the kind of sound, whatever it is.....
Donovan
Daughter
hes was asked if he would evr change the strat nd use something else nd he answered no never..
Why does his english sound better then than it does now?
he didnt start classical metal
7:01 with my name on it :D
dude i played beyond the sun. black star, but i like to analyse music , and it seems to be all his work looks and sounds the same k thats i only want to say !
pick holder > cigarette holder !
haha pause and look at his face at 7:02

Haha xD
7:00 onwards - this guy is soo funny he's 2nd in my top 2 guitarists (H), Slash being the other guy haha (H) ... anywayz this guy owns speeed :| - and plectrum with his own name on haha...
Dean Markley .08 - 48
@sucramnormark i would
@XionComrade His playing isnt that good anymore but he used to be the bomb! His improvising was totally awesome for the first ten years of his career, especially in Alcatrazz.
Paul Gilbert doesn't smoke!
Jeremy pearl jam
so at the very end hes pretty much saying i should buy the strongest piece of plastic i can find, and make it into guitar picks and i could sell them and become rich for making the worlds best guitar pick that can do hardcore stuff on the low strings and the real high shit clean too?!?!?! wow!!!
Masquerading......good point. He doesn't articulate his ideas well at all. He expresses himself best just through playing.
@MrRazorblade999 Thats a big negative i guess ;)
Does he pay for his guitars?
afraid to say it...but he was a prick when i met him at a meet and greet a night before a show in 2005. i had been looking forward in meeting him for 20 years, but left disappointed! sometimes, it's never good to meet your heros.....BUT, Joe Stump and Michael Angeloo Batio are awesome in person!!!!
to be honest i dont even know what the argument is, but i swear it looks like someone found a pissed off japanese guy and and translated him for shits and giggles. not to insult you but that rant was hilarious
He doesn't smoke anymore I don't think lol.
Jimmy Gentry cousins
LUCKY BASTARD!!!!
I think the question they asked him was ..
"would you ever play a gibson?"
"NO"
haaha
A bit related to the question but no.
