Adam Savage's music, approved of by Jack White. That's not something I thought would be a thing but here we are.
I love Adam's pure passion for everything he does
Saw the Crosley and thought, "NOOOO!" Then I saw the Audio Technica needle and felt better.
slimkt no counterweight means it still digs into the record so you should still be saying "NOOOOO!!"
James Colpean I didn't even notice! NOOOOO!
James Colpean As long as you set the spring tension at the height of playing to the proper "mass", you will have no problem with a lack of counterweight. The issue comes about when you weigh the needle pressure much higher than the platter, the weight will be much lower than playing height as compared to a counterweighted needle.
This model *DOES* have an adjustable counterweight.
It does have a counterweight and the tracking force of a crosley without one is lighter than the original specified tracking force for vinyl records (on the patent)
Stop shitting all over stuff with surface level observations heard from others, not all smaller record players are complete shit.
As a person who grew up in a record shop, I sold records and played records every day through college, I was so proud to see the way you handled the record, never putting your fingers on the playing surface, handling it only by the center and the edge, way to go!!! Now...let me make a suggestion, something I taught to every new employee at the store and tried to drill into the customers as well, when you set the tonearm down on the record you were grasping the little arm that sticks out, don't ever put more than one finger on the arm, lift the arm with one finger only underneath the arm sticking out, the only weight is the weight of the tonearm itself, this is much steadier than the shaky two finger method and without holding onto it, you can't scratch the record, try it..it works! One finger only, underneath the little handle that sticks out, easy as pie, you aren't holding onto the tone arm at all, merely resting it on your finger tip.
G56AG To me biggest Adam's offence against the record, was puting in so much efort in making it, and then playing it on a crosley.
It had a AT cartridge, i'll give it that, but crosleys's aren't exactly known for good audio quality, and going easy on the record grooves.
I don't think it matters that's a crossly
Save your breath, he doesent read the comments section..
Now this, this was actually educational. Damn.
I'm so glad that you've posted this comment, thanks for the tip!
I don't remember having ever seen someone filled with so much joy by hearing himself (singing, moreover). People just tend to go "Oh stop that record right now my voice is terrible." You're such a wonderful person.
I suspect he's gotten used to his voice after being on television for so many years.
I know it's "live" but I loved the brain candy show and I would be ecstatic if I could get a dvd of it? I know some of the magic is lost but I think it would be an amazing way for those who can't attend to see it, and those who have to relive it.....plus when my son gets older I'd love to brag about it and show him why I loved watching you guys so much.
I'm waiting for a test pressing of my bands single to turn up, from Small Run Vinyl here in Australia. Much excite!!!!
I felt like a kid waiting for Adam to play his recording. Love Adam and Tested, love Jack and Third Man Records.
Third Man is a cool company. Used to work with them in Nashville.
I think it's a fun recording with a special energy because it isn't processed. Bravo on recording straight to the plate when there are pros who wouldn't take that risk.
I just had to listen to this after watching you record it and tour the plant....epic man, I know your proud of those test pressings and the song .
I could watch you all day dude!
Love these videos.
Peace.
This is so amazing. Can't wait to play it at home!
Awesome, I love it Adam! :) THANK YOU!!!! I love what you are doing for this nation!!! :)
Super Cool Adam!! Many Congrats!
Sounds good Adam and im looking forward to getting mine .
Adam, for real you have enough skill to build a better record player! I'd love to see that!
"Hey, those lyrics are great!" *I couldn't think of anything nicer to say.* Hahaha.
So cool!! Well done Adam!!
It's so great to see you smile like that again
great adam's nice done i hope to receive my copy soon
I went to the Third Man Records in Nashville, and it was awesome. Love what Jack White is doing for music.
Awesome, you look pleased as punch with the results! 😎
Those lyrics are great! I enjoy this catchy little tune. Candy for my brain and soul!
Oh boy...... I did not expect to love his lil singing voice
Im big into collecting vinyl, this would be super cool to have.
Sounds great.
I had a goofy smile on my face the whole song through. Very nice, amigo.
Luv it Adam!
Dude! This is so cool! Its weird to listen to a record in a video but this song is awesome. :) this song is really awesome.
Look at that. Adam Savage kicking ass with his congenital hearing loss. Keep it up dude.
Great single! #RockOn Adam
So, can anyone visit Third Man Records? I’m not a musician but I’m a fan of the White Stripes, Raconteurs , and Jack White’s solo music. I’d kinda think it’d be cool just to visit the place in Detroit and maybe buy some memorabilia if possible.
Nice work
adam, i love your work, and how you can make all the fanciest and amazing builds look like everyone could do it blindfolded! the fact that you also play the ukulele and recorded it on vinyl, i... i am so happy! could you please sell me (not the testpressings) a copy on vinyl? please! i know i will never get a chance to see the show, as i live in a little village in DENMARK! Please Adam! if not for sale for everybody, do it for your biggest fan!
Adams singing voice reminds me of Voltaire..
that sounded amazing! i have a grammophone to. will those (of course not the test pressings) be for sale sometime? Please adam!
I saw brain candy in Orlando, it was the greatest thing of all time. I loved every second of it!
This put a smile on my face! 🤓
It still amazes me to see how vinyl seems to be making a comeback.
It makes no sense at all.
@@Trentstone121 It makes zero sense audio-wise, but there are arguments for it, mostly nostalgic in nature. But, there were arguments made in the Third Man Records episode about recording live, direct to acetate puts pressure on the performer that can sometimes make things better. But, there is nothing preventing you from setting those rules when recording digitally, although it would take a strong person to not fix things in post. I do think that there are reasons you might record to analog tape, for example, if you're looking to use it for an effect, and there are reasons artistically to put limitations on yourself to drive creativity.
Vinyl is certainly a flawed format. The "Warmth" people hear is an alteration of the sound, not a somehow more faithful recreation of it. Vinyl has lower SNR, lower stereo separation, significantly lower bass stereo separation, limited bass levels, a changing quality (Inner tracks sound worse than outer tracks), and is subject to dust, degradation from playback, and is easily damaged. But, many people like the sound, and because of the format limitations, the loudness wars are much less of an issue on vinyl. Now if only you could get the vinyl mastering released in FLAC format.
Now that's a joyful guy right there.
Bravo Adam!!! Vinyl media FOREVER AND EVER!!!!!!!
I put on my stereo headset for this. and the ribbon mic caught your high ends perfect I was so happy. I wanna bring my guitar to Detroit now :O
So flippin cool.
Super Cool!
I gotta get this on vinyl!!!
Eric, here.
After seeing and hearing this, now I want to jam with Adam!
Adams singing sounds a lot like Trey from Phish. He also looks a lot like him. Long lost twins?
Great jingle adam
Adam Savage gets the craziest shit in the mail.
Awesome 😎
Very cool
Beautiful technology.
Adam looked so happy ahh
Whoa, the recording sounds better here than on the other video
Hey Adam! You guys made me the Methane fart dance guy at the Tucson Brain Candy show!
I'm still having trouble comprehending my two greatest obsessions of Adam Savage and Jack White colliding into one space. Watching Adam's Third Man video was like getting my greatest two-for-one deal EVAR...the day my Tested subscription merged with my TMR subscription. 🤓🤘
You should give a couple away, Adam! That would seriously be the coolest 7" TP
Loved the vinyl recording, the Crosley is cute looking, but wouldn't trust it to play my vinyl I cared about.
I wish I could go there
Come to Utah, please.
I need it.
You are so lucky Adam
By the way the Ukulele is an instrument based on a Portuguese instrument the Cavaquinho 4 Strings or Razão 5 Strings, taken to Hawaii, by a men from Madeira in the sec. XIX.
Cheers from Portugal
Fun. Fun. Fun!
I guess you could say now the Test-LP is "Tested".
Big fan Adam love ukulele
I'm kinda jealous that my membership month is February instead of September or October or November or whenever this is going to be available for the premium members
If I didn't know I was in the UA-cam comment section right now, I would have thought I was on on r/vinyl...so much hate. Listen to music however you'd like with whatever equipment you have/want. Music is supposed to bring people together, not bring about all this "Yo bro, you know that Crosley is going to literally blow your records up" and "I'm an audio engineer so obviously I know absolutely everything". Some people, myself included, really like physical media. Theres nothing like sitting down, pulling out those liner notes, and getting lost in some awesome album art.
this
Couldn't have said it better myself
"Some people, myself included, really like physical media."
That's super... it really is, just don't listen to your physical media on a fucking Crosley.
wolfjob915 people care because they want you to realize that there is better out there.
It'd be great if Brain Candy came to Atlanta. The closest it came was North Carolina fucking great, thanks.
3th man record on a 3th man record player 😄✌️👍lovely
Wait a moment Adam, didn't you say you would pick the screwed-up version ? Sounds awesome though ! Greetings from Germany
of course Adam has a "shop record player". It's probably better than mine, too.
It's a Crosley; I highly doubt it.
Hey Adam,
In the video where you recorded that song in the studio you made one mistake and then just carried on with the song. Is that mistake in your record or had you done two takes? Just curious.
Way cool
Adam can jam!
Extended club mix please.
It is amazing, the difference between records and any other. I was born 1994 and still, Phonograph records will alway's be, in my opinion better than anything other than live.
Adam needs to create his own shop record player..not even hating on the crosley, just saying it needs to happen (maybe it has and I don't know about it yet? Very possible since I just recently discovered this channel)
Would love to see you do a ONE DAY BUILD ukulele!
Where was the mess up you were mentioning previously?
I think they edited it out of the video
Yep, there was a cut in the video at that point.
edited out for the video i think - but should have left...otherwise why didn't they just use another take?
Adam should co-judge on Cosplay Melee!
Adam, please, let us buy your record in other way in the future
So is all I need to do to get one of these vinyls be a premium member?
'Look for the bear necessities..'😄
Adam, I would like to watch you play that song wearing a costume!
My god, the tinniness of feeding that poor record through the Crosley speaker, only for it to be shat out through my phone speaker...
Crosley is fine. Not a prestige brand by any measure, but the nicer ones do an alright job and he looks to have upgraded the stylus. He played a LIVE RECORDING of his songs and I think he did an admirable job. Y'all are just looking for reasons to hate in the comments.
The test pressings are already premium collectibles.
3:30 "Record cutting lathe"? Although possible, I assumed almost all were made on a press. Was the master for the press cut on a lathe, or was this just a small fumble I'm looking way to much into?
He recorded directly to the record cutting lathe, the master. The press uses that master ;)
I wonder how long before we see these turn up on ebay?
You look so much like Dave King, the lead singer of Flogging Molly.
Using a Crosley to play records, out of tune ukulele and playing a ukulele with a pick. This entire video is making me cry
This man just put a 1 of 5 vinyl test pressing onto a Crosley.
Adam Savage + Jack White project (or, at least, one video) should be a thing
What kind of boots does Adam wear? I need a pair ASAP.
Why two cuts near the end of the song?
You should scratch a picture or message on the B Side plate.
This was beautiful to watch and see how happy it made you! I really hope I too can one day sit and listen to a test pressing of my band's music on vinyl!! I'd love one of your test pressings but I'm guessing you'll be giving those to friends and family? Maybe a competition to win one? I'll keep an eye on discogs anyway...
Hey Adam, can I build you an ukulele? It's one of my favorite instruments to make
You said you took the version where you screwed up the lyrics in order to put an emphasis on the "one take - one chance" mentality in which music used to be recorded way back in the day, and yet edited it out of the video? Why?
So nobody could convert the video into a sound file and thus get the full song? ;)
Does that mean that if i sign up for tested premium, i get a record?
