    I have just discovered your videos and they are lovely! I am in the process of designing our garden and I want it to grow food but also be full of beautiful flowers and I love how you have combined the two in your kitchen garden. I am inspired and I can't wait to see more! P.S. your dress is also beautiful! 😍

      I didn’t notice a huge difference, unfortunately. I used oil and soy sauce and that seemed to work better.

    Yes, I too have an earwig infestation. I buried a small container in my garden bed with 1/4 olive oil and the rest soy sauce. The earwigs love it - go inside - get covered with oil and die. This method is working for me. Some youtube videos suggest that you cover the top - like a small yogurt container - and cut small holes. I live in S. CA and so not too worried about rain, so mine is lidless. I found this info on youtube. Oh, some gardeners used tuna or sardine oil. I guess the earwigs go after strong smells. Patti

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  2 роки тому +1

      I used the same method in a few places, and it did attract them like crazy! Last year they were just so bad I still found them everywhere despite my best efforts to control their population. Hopefully this year will be better for both of us!

    Excited to here your vision and plans for your gardens and property. Definitely subscribed and looking forward to seeing the progress. I love that dress. Would you please share your favorite seed and plant sources with us? What type of stone/gravel did you use in your potager garden pathways? I’m trying to decide on the exact product I want to use in my potager garden. Do you have a dedicated cut flower garden or do you cut flowers from all your gardens? Thanks

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  3 роки тому

      Thank you for subscribing! I made a couple of videos going over seeds that I’ve purchased for my garden and my favorite seed sources. I have several videos in the works going over my favorite online plant retailers. I always try to buy from local nurseries first, but if their is a plant I really want I’ll search for it online. My gravel is called Tuscan Pathway, and is locally sourced. Yes I plant cut flowers all over my garden at the moment. I love seeing them all around as the permanent plantings mature, and they are so beautiful I enjoy seeing them outside of a dedicated space. Last year my potager was planted heavily with vegetables, and this year I transitioned the space to perennial fruits, and more cut flowers that I wanted to protect from the deer.

    I am in New Zealand so our growing conditions are different. I have a potager and i have thornless berries and blueberries as well. I have to give them many times more space than you have done because the growth rate is so much more. In one season one of the berries could smother both tuteurs. I have to grow them down a fence to give them space. Your garden is sweet and pretty.

    We had earwigs really bad one year. I found a good control is to make shallow pitfall traps with vegetable oil and soy sauce in them. We caught hundreds! They are not native in our area so I did not feel too bad. You do have to check the traps everyday though because lizards can get stuck in them and you would not want them to die.

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  Рік тому +1

      I’ve used that method as well, it really does catch a lot of them! Thankfully we don’t have lizards so I wouldn’t catch those, but I’ve caught some grasshoppers too.

      A kitchen garden are any plants that have produce that you use in the kitchen. It is also located very near to the kitchen. Snobs and overly opinionated persons will add their own rules are what kitchen garden is.
      You can make a kitchen garden however you like and add other things to it like she added flowers. Her garden is a potager and kitchen garden at the same time.
