Tractor Seats & Windscreens - Project Speedboat pt. 3

- Опубліковано 6 лют 2019
- It's starting to take shape with the addition of some budget suspension tractor seats and a custom made speedboat windscreen.
Saving an old speedboat from the scrap heap and turning it into an expedition vehicle to explore uncharted waters.
This knackered old rigid inflatable boat (RIB) is an old Searider SR4 made by Avon. This first part sees us tackle a critical problem with the trusty Honda BF3 outboard engine.
Stay tuned for more adventures, our plan is to circumnavigate the UK, which is roughly 1500miles. - Авто та транспорт
It's like a proper boat!
you can tell this was and is a very quality item, made of fiberglass and rubber and you can still restore it after 40 years. Amazing job with the windscreen.
Avon ribs are so well made, the depth of gelcoat and quality finish, love this series guys, inspirational stuff, thank you.
@5:31 "This is the last hole"
Hahahaha, you are hilarious.
Never owned an inflatable, have you?
*THERES NEVER A LAST HOLE*
Yea my inflatable dek just started leaking so yea
Glad I saw your channel in my recommended or else I probably wouldn’t have been here again, love what you do my guy, been subbed since cardboard boat
The Avon sea rider was and is one of the best sea going sports boats a so safe even if swamped. Well done restoring this.
"It doesn't feel quality does it?" This is the exact sentiment I have felt many times after ordering something online! LOL
I had suspension seats in my bass boat. They are worth every penny.
I only found your channel today and I love it. I did up an old Broom Saturn a few years ago. After watching this I feel the need to do another boat restoration
Did my RYA Powerboat 2 in a Searider many moons ago. Lovely little boat and great fun. Great vlog of your trip round GB too.
Great stuff. If you get sick of the yellow seats, most plant machines and tractors now have seats with adjustable air suspension, usually made by KAB. Expensive-ish but absolutely worth it for the hours you're looking at doing.
It makes all the difference having a decent seat, you still get tired but don't get crippled and smashed to bits quite so quickly.
Simply love this channel! Awesome content as usual
Love this project!! Really enjoying watching your videos
Nice work Harry. Keep em coming.
how dose this only have 3593 views that is bull shit it should have millions, and thank you for inspiring me to buy a 15ft concord love your video keep it up.
Matthew Longhurst I did just buy an old Drommedile white 14 ft 20hp
@@Michael_Meltzer05 cool is it a big job to do up
Yes it is
@@Michael_Meltzer05 do you have Instagram or something like that?
such a high quality video, love the work, keep it up.
This is AMAZING
Very clever to use the tractor seats!!!! Awsome videos.
I agree with you
Love the cockroach in the background! Maybe you can use the solar panels off it and batteries. Or maybe have a sea and land meet up and call it the Serf and Turf dinner campout!
This serie is really good :D I like the channel and everything. This is great!
In the future when you put patches on you should radius the corners of the patch. It will help it not peel off.
nice job harry, well-done.
the boat looks soo good
Awesome vid
Working on and with a RIB daily this is amazing to see.
Love the boat
Thanks for the upload Harry. Very cool project. I just got a small boat as well. Soo much fun! Cheers from the U.S.
Thanks for watching! Will look out for you on the high seas. Maybe once we've toured the UK we'll attempt the Atlantic crossing.
Man i work and do repairs on those inflatable boats.... They arent worth the money. But if you keep up on maintenance they last! Make sure you keep it polished and waxed it makes the tubes last twice as long.! Best of luck!
Just found this series, loving it. Restoring a classic speedboat myself at the moment. "sadly" mine was in a far worse spot. Can't wait for the next episode.
Thanks Mats. Yes, I feel like i've had an easy ride so far. What model have you taken on?
@@harrydwyer A 1960s Owens, not a RIB though. Here's a link to a forum I posted it on if you'd like to see: fiberglassics.com/forum/member-projects/132302-new-member-my-project-1960s-owens.html
Nice seats
A good one is
“There’s no RED PORT LEFT in the bottle.”
love this channel as well. Why don't you guys have a boat load of SUBSCRIBERS??? Makes no sense!!
The yellow really sets off the orange! Lol!
Tip put all the wires in the a fram because it’s hollow
Great video and series. I question if I may, how is the dash secured in the boat to stop it flying off ?
Just found this, great idea but they will rust like crazy
Great vids. I was out on my rib on the Thames at the weekend 07.09.19.
Very interested in what you are doing.
What did you use to clean the hyperlon. We launch at Poplar rowing club, also used bargehouse too. We are looking to go further afield and trying to find marinas who sell petrol.
May see you out there sometime.
Love, love, love this channel.
But, surely it should be 'uncharted' waters, not 'unchartered', as you say in your little intro.
Excuse my pedantry!
Please continue....🤝
Wont the seats rub on the sponsons, and cause holes in the long run?
Yes, they will, or maybe already have. Will not even take that long time in my opinion.
Well, I like having my sponsons rubbed!😘
When's the next episode of around the UK trusting you are all well of course.
Dear Harry, I think you should really consider making it into a Solar / Electric powered speed boat. it would be so much more interesting and quiet when travelling, and the main thing is it will save you a tone on fuel and maintenance. hope to see that.
Yes you're right. The petrol engine is too easy. I've been considering solar. There are a few things to overcome. Speedboats need a lot of energy to get on the plane, so we'd need quite a bit of power. It would be much more of an achievement though. Perhaps a floating towable solar array... I will get thinking.
Instead of the patches, I would've used flex seal and painted about 4 or 5 layers onto the boat. The black would've worked nice with the orange
I have to ask, what are those tiny homes behind you all? They look great!
Those are called Container City, an early shipping container construction from 2001 - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Container_City
How long did that windshield last before cracking?
“There’s no red port left in the bottle”
199 liker I liked your video and ur channel superb from INDIA
Are there any uncharted waters still?
Why did you end up not us8ng the tractors seats ?
Id be worried about those seats wearing a hole, since they seem to rub the tube on the inside a bit.
Well spotted. I'm cutting the arms off. Drastic measures.
I'd really like to know how those tractor suspension seats work. I have a searider also and was thinking of putting those in. How much travel do they have? 3"?
Hi Adam, time will tell if they do the trick. To begin with they felt too rigid but after a bit of bouncing they start to move nicely, allbeit with an audible clank. Easily 3 inches of travel. I'm not sure how they'll fare with rust. Do you also have the side by side seat arrangement?
Hey Harry, I actually built a pilothouse on mine and stand up. It used to be a motorcycle style setup (5.4 rescue). 3" sounds good. Rust...yeah I guess just spray some more black paint on the chassis so that its really thick. I was daydreaming some kind of leg exoskeleton or maybe even a bicycle seat/bolster to keep it simple and lightweight. But maybe one of those seats towards the transom for passengers would be nice too. Seariders are the best tho!!!
Please post another video on the first ride. It would be great to hear that it takes alot of bounce out of the ride. There is a company that sells these for boats called Smooth Moves. They're just the tractor seats with extra holes drilled for boat bolsters lol.
Of course, I'm fully documenting the process so will do a full review of the seats!
Pilothouse! Wow! I think ours is a little small for that...
I would have got a tiny for exploring but it’s free so whatever
Hay Harry, what gluew manufacturer did you use?
Hi, I used Bostic glue.
@@harrydwyer cheers for the fast reply
Wow I think I got first comment. Not that it matters. Also great video.
Thanks for breaking the ice... It was feeling a little like the Mary Celeste.
Np
Lol
What kind of plastic??
great vid, music a bit free to use
You look like Ben kind of with that beard
LOL you want to "explore uncharted waters around the UK"do you? Well where's the video about the time machine you made because the waters around the UK were likely charted as early as the 13th century or earlier.
Damn it! Just too late.
Expedition boat????? lol You are not allowed to go off-shore in a boat with only a single motor in many parts of the world. I see you came unstuck before you even got started for this very reason. Prop hit rock and breaks off. Learn redundancy.
