It was definitely a pain having to drive all the way around when that section was closed. It's still a bit unstable there, but the entire around Mystery Mesa has always been that way, more or less. Thanks for visiting and commenting! =)
+luvperu1 I have traveled this road regularly for many years and that one spot was always a bit weird - ripply and bouncy. It seemed inevitable that something like this would happen here eventually, although I would have thought we'd need much more than the two rounds of thunderstorms a couple of months ago to set it off. Thanks so much for the view and comment! =)
+rumerxs It definitely made getting back and forth to the north side of the SCV easier... Hopefully they'll get it repaired sooner than later =) Thanks for visiting!
I have mixed feelings about that road! Its fascinating to see how the earth reacts, moves and changes. However its sad to see her reaction to that wonderful Vasquez Canyon Road. I loved driving on that road. Thanks JC for posting the video.
Thanks for the great video. Awesome pic's. The really strange part of seeing all of this, I drove a semi tow truck thru the canyon to the mobile home park at Vasquez the night before it happened. Pretty scary stuff.
+Daniel Pauchet It will certainly make rush-hour traffic more congested on the remaining roads, and a big inconvenience for those people who live in that area... Thanks a bunch for stopping by! =)
Checking around on Google and saw Twitter images of people taking selfies, someone riding a mountain bike and another a skateboard on and over those humps and bumps!
+wordreet There were (and still are) some pretty crazy things going on there - I even heard of motorcycle jumping and skaters getting air flying over the larger cracks and crevices... It's quite the circus at times! Thanks s bunch for stopping by =)
Yes it is... I don't know if they used this particlar stretch of the road (from the peak down to Bouquet Cyn), but the other end, from Sierra Hwy to the peak at the entrance to Mystery Mesa Sanctuary was used, as was the top of the mesa where the truck went over the side. At least one of the rear axels of the truck was still at the bottom of the cliff on the southeast side of the mesa back in the 80s. It's since been closed-off and used extensively as a filming site since I flew R/C aircraft there back then, so I haven't been up there for quite some time..
+kaziklu79 This road may be down for the moment, but I suspect it will be back, sooner or later - and no doubt at taxpayer expense! Thanks for checking it out =)
👍👍👍 I'm glad our road is back

Incredible situation. I think a lot of problems for the drivers.

JCMegabyte People enjoy a bit of craziness at times. ;¬)
Oh I live just down the road and friend and I walked it. They ended up having a security guy sit in car
nice drone footage! It always amuses me how there's gotta be people that thumbs down videos. They just GOTTA hate. Thumbs up from me!
The haters DO have a purpose - they make the rest of us look better! =) Thank YOU for being cool!
Looks like a road from Fallout: New Vegas.
Is that the road from Duel 1971?

They also filmed it on Sierra Hwy towards LeChenne restaurant. Of course that wasn't there back then 😁
Very interesting! Whoever decided to make a road on this hill must return the money to the taxpayers now.
