Haha! This video was so much fun to watch as a Swedish person. This is probably completely unnecessary but for future reference, Swedish is not a harsh language! It's quite low-key and soft. Don't know why everyone thinks it's even close to German. Haha.

It is a melodic language, and our diphthongs are very sing-song-y. In general, not an easy language to grasp as our rules have no real basis, like when to say "en" or "ett", or how to pronounce "k" in the word "kex". But if you want to, at least it is slightly easier than german grammar, and we still use greek letters.
German isn't a harsh language either. That's a myth that I think comes from American actors trying to portray Germans. The only time German sounds harsh is when English speaking people try to speak it.

Enjoyed this so much! Sorry to Deli, but James was definitely better at this.
A few points I'd like to make:
* a lonely 'i' in Swedish is pronounced like a long 'e' in English
* 'j' is often, but not always, pronounced like 'y' from words like 'you' in English
* 'möjligt' (at 7:37):
- m = long m
- ö = ea in earn
- j = y in you
- l = long l
- i = like y in funny
- gt = short t (g is often silent in this case, but not necessarily)
* kudos to you James for knowing how to say 'så' at 7:35!

You basicially said everything wrong, but I was still impressed with your ability to identify certain words and understand them even though they were not similar to the english equivalent. Like at 16.42 Avskeda = fire.
FYI. I am not from Sweden, but Denmark, however many words are quite similar, although they are pronounced differently :D

I've studied Swedish a bit since that's what people in Finland have to do (it's our second national language after all even though like a 5% minority speaks Swedish) and this was both hilarious and terribly frustrating to watch at the same time :D I think you should do either Finnish or Dutch next, Finnish has really long words that make no sense and I've only recently started studying Dutch and it's proving to be difficult already :p

I feel like he had the right approach and even said "på" correctly (never heard that from a non-speaker before! Well done!). But Deli... who insisted on "correcting" James with random weird gargling noises... I have absolutely zero hopes for her. o__o'
