I was so frustrated by that. I preferred the original piece of decorative furniture he was going to put back there and this ended up looking worse IMHO. I enjoy the dark wood vibes but it looks like a normal residential kitchen except less useful lol. He could've added the Dine-Out stove and gotten fake take-out vibes for less simoleons and also a functional object.
I wish most of the other houses also came with their equivalent business space attached, like mini bookstore, mini art gallery, etc. so that the town feels even more like a town.
I’d get rid of the coffee machine to save money and add a dishwasher to the cafe area. Replace the espresso machine with the smaller one that works on counters just to eliminate the glitchiness. (Also sims love to autonomously make coffee and if it’s not accessible, it may be annoying. The kitchen would be nice down stairs to be close to the shop.
I would personally put the kitchen downstairs to serve both the house and cafe side. Then upstairs can be a lounge/office space where the kitchen is currently.
I agree! Makes a lot of sense, especially since he makes the food he sells in the kitchen and he eats whatever's left from the sales so you don't have to keep going upstairs for it
For the Cafe area, you NEED to put the Dine Out egg painting behind thesales table (you could sell the cabinets and get some money back!). Also! You could use the get to work bakery display case thing, so when reuban is done selling, leftover food could go there for safe keeping🧡
This, please. Or else use the Dine-Out stove for faux take-out vibes lol. Plus I liked the original decorative piece he showed us at the very beginning; it looked nicer than the shelves he put in later. The bakery display is a great idea so you can also see how much food is left to sell at a glance. Pretty much anything besides those residential cabinets (cafes don't normally have those.) If he really wants to keep the cafe barista items, then place them into the empty space between those two doors. That would look normal for a commercial lot.
I like the idea of the kitchen being downstairs, i think it makes the most sense and it would be quite useful!!! then the rest of the house can be a relaxing space for him to hang out🥳 also loving the cafe area💘
High School Years has that cafe barback thing from ThiftTea! Maybe that instead of the awkward configuration of the espresso machine since you don't want it to work anyway?
Reuben could also get the marketable trait which increase the value or your cooking up to three times. And he could also finish the market magnat aspiration and be able to markup the price of food to 500%

I am really enjoying this series! I think the layout with the kitchen downstairs and the living space upstairs makes a lot of sense in terms of layout. Also, side note: I think it would be fun if Sonny had a swim-up bar, like the ones you see at beach resorts, or perhaps a swim-up DJ station and a separate dance floor on little mini-islands around his house.
I would say get rid of the glitchy cafe stuff and maybe just put a less glitchy coffee machine there. Also agree with a downstairs kitchen a nice large chefs kitchen with every appliance
Maybe waiting to work on the town hall till all the characters at least had 2 episodes so the buildings have their definite shapes is smart? Then the landscaping can integrate in it. I love Tiny Town!
I really hope that reuben can host full course dinner party for the entire family (including grandpa) and really hope james scattered night lamp around the house 🤞
You should totally have the downstairs part be the kitchen that is on the same level as the shop for sure! Have the Living room and Bedroom area on the second floor! I LOVE Tiny Town! (I always sing the Tiny Town intro you and Deli have come up with every time I see a new video posted) hahahaha Keep it up!!
Kitchen downstairs next to the cafe makes so much sense. Then you could use the entire upper area for his living area, perhaps with a bar/mini fridge area for quick access while upstairs.
You could use the bunker grounds for produce for Reuben’s cooking and baking, as it’s closer! And I like the idea of kitchen and dining in the misc room downstairs so it’s closer to the cafe. It would also be a great entertaining space for parties. Get a bar in there too. Reuben will host amazing dinner parties!
Since Reuben is so into cooking, I think it makes sense to have his kitchen upstairs with the best views of Tiny Town (where he spends most of his time). He's definitely the one hosting/cooking for the family holidays, so he should have a large dining table upstairs, then the living room stuff can go downstairs and double as a "break room" from the cafe.
I agree I love the view in the kitchen and it makes sense to have a "break area" downstairs next to the cafe so he can stumble in there after a long hard day 😂
It would also be cool to see Reuben add the juicer machine. He can sell the bottles individually for a decent amount of money and cafes usually serve a sweet cold beverage too.
Kitchen downstairs in the "extra" empty room and living upstairs where the kitchen was. That bathroom upstairs is massive!!! Maybe turn part of it into a closet or something. Also for color in the kitchen you could add the new wall backsplash tiles from Love struck pack.
I was yelling “put the kitchen downstairs” at my tv the entire time I was watching this! I think it would be really cool to have the “back” door open onto a huge gourmet downstairs kitchen with dining while the upstairs is living space! Almost like bc cooking and baking is his dream he created this amazing space to do it in attached to his breakfast pizza bakery! I know it’s not a typical layout but it kinda fits the vibe to me, having one whole are that focuses on your passion but bc it’s also your work there’s a line between it and the living space!
I love the idea of the kitchen downstairs, then Reuben can teach cooking classes and have the upstairs be a lounge area for him and a little desk/office space to catch up on his paperwork.
As someone who only ever thinks of the final image of a build and has no idea how to actually get to that point, these building videos help me a ton. Thanks! 🧡
Having the kitchen downstairs would make the most sense. But please get rid of that pastel shelf in your cafe area next to the trash disposal. Everything in there looks modern, sleek and cohesive and then there is this colorful shelf that doesn't fit the vibe at all😂
It's fun but doesn't fit with anything else in the game honestly 😅, maybe with the weird children's room thingies split between Cats & Dogs and My First Pet Stuff, but I wouldn't call that a good thing 😅
Having the kitchen downstairs would flow really nicely being next to Ruben's Cafe, then the living room could be his more chill space upstairs. You could also delete the wall under the stairs to save money, open the entry area and give it a more modern look 😊🧡🧡
100% love the idea of the kitchen being downstairs with more of a formal dining space rather than a breakfast nook. I feel like a chef like this would host dinner parties. Then have the living space upstairs so he can disconnect from work and have a little oasis. 😊
I like the idea of having the kitchen downstairs close to the cafe area and having the living area upstairs. Also it'd be nice for the finale episode if Krystoff and Rahul renewed their vows, kind of like how Deli had a wedding for her sims as the finale.
I like the idea of the kitchen downstairs and I don’t think you need that coffee machine. Maybe a dishwasher? The build looks amazing though, loving this series 🧡
omg I love it!!! I think you definitely should put the kitchen downstairs, it makes the most sense for it to be close to the café and there it actually can be huge. Which for a sim that main thing is cooking would make sense
I think you nailed this build! Just for the sake of dealing with bugs I would have left out the espresso machine but I get the aesthetic you’re going for 😊 I’m excited for the community center/town reno 🤑
I like the house/cafe overall. However, I really wanted his kitchen to be downstairs so it's handy if he wanted to cook something to sell. It would also have more room there for a dining table. Also, it would leave more room upstairs for his private lounge area (living room, for those of us in the US). I also felt it would be more fair to him if the "common area" space of the cafe (especially the bathroom) had used money from the vault rather than from his personal funds.
This was so fun as its own video. The house is so clever! I agree with the comments about the downstairs kitchen. And also remove the wall under the stairs. It will save some money & look more modern.
I would definitely move the kitchen downstairs so it can be shared between the house and the café area. The espresso machine and coffee grinder should be switched out for a regular coffee maker and the tea machine. Can you sell regular teas and coffees in the market table? It would fit with selling waffles.
I think it makes sense to have the kitchen area downstairs next to the cafe, just logistically you'd want the kitchen close. And for cleaning up and stuff too, so he's not cleaning up from the cafe and taking everything upstairs to wash or washing plates in front of customers. I also think it would be nice for him to have a bit of balcony space upstairs so that he can have some private outdoor space to relax and look out on the community after a hard day of feeding Tiny Town.
Back to back Semaj video HYPEEEE 🔥🔥🔥 About your question: I feel it would be nice if the kitchen was downstairs so that the entire 1st floor would be dedicated to his passion 🙂 (the build is fire btw)
Put some small tables on your balcony. Make the door locked for everyone but Ruben and create a small pathway from your main house entrance to that balcony that is a public/shared space. Sims like seats with a view 😊

As you were doing the floor plan i could picture that downstairs room as the kitchen and then that big space upstairs as the living space/ formal dining.
Love the cafe and how you blended it with his house! I would go there. I do believe it may be a good idea to do the kitchen and dining on the ground level with the cafe. Then living space upstairs.
I think I like the kitchen and dining where it is currently and at least to me, the living makes more sense down in that area with the stairs. Mostly because you'll need a bazillion simoleons to build a kitchen in that HUGE area down there.Where as a living space you can spread out more to fill it up and if you're going dedicated bachelor with Reuben you could get him a pet and be able to put a pet bed and toys along with a some sort of game or maybe the puzzle table.
The way you walk us through your building process is SO HELPFUL. I’m someone who has a hard time understanding spacial concepts but I love building in the sims so I end up getting frustrated when I can’t figure out why something doesn’t look quite right but I can’t figure out why or how to fix it.
I agree with most people in the comments, kitchen downstairs makes so much more sense. That way the whole bottom floor could have the same flooring as well! And I know you used that coffee machine for the looks, which are pretty swell, but there's a smaller coffee machine that also works with the grinder that goes on a regular counter that would spare you a lot of trouble. And it still looks cool! Super excited for the next episode, always a blast to watch.
Love the shape/style of the build. Also the Cafe looks great! I really hope you move his kitchen downstairs though. I personally think it makes the most sense. Plus if this was a real build could imagine lugging all groceries up stairs lul. 😂
I vote kitchen downstairs! 🙋🏽♀️ love the idea of Ruben having this huge kitchen to entertain too! Or make cooking/eating part of club activities and pretend he’s giving cooking classes to other tiny towners?!
The kitchen (and probably the dining too) definitely needs to go downstairs by the cafe, then the living room can go upstairs with the bedroom and stuff so it’s like all living stuff. That just makes the most sense!
So here's the down low when it comes to those objects disappearing. It happens when you A) paint a room all at once B) paint the wall behind the objects if they're stacked on another object (i.e. stacking the horse ranch plates one on top of the other, or staking the mugs from everyday clutter on top of the home chef hustle plate stack, painting the wall behind the shelf/object they're on will delete them sometimes) and C) any changes to any existing rooms you make. So, drawing fences or walls to make a new or change an existing room, even if it's on a different floor. Painting on other floors and in different *rooms* from the objects should be fine. If you want to avoid that, just turn on deletion protection before you paint or add walls/fences, then turn it off after, yeah it's buggy but it's a life saver, Twisted Mexi is just the best.
I think it's better to move the kitchen to the lower floor. And on the second floor, it would be nice to make a large living room with a bunch of cool things. Maybe even add a door to the balcony and make an additional seat there.
I would put the kitchen downstairs. That area over the cafe that looks like a balcony or overhang. I'd remove the windows and put the sign up there. You could lose that side door to the cafe since sims seem to all bunch up in that area. It might give you a little more space to work with and save you some money too. I figure Ruben's time is going to be spent mostly downstairs anyways. :)
If you did the kitchen downstairs, you could make it more of an industrial and then it would work for the café as well and look like a professional type kitchen. And then you could have the door from the café, be household only.
I think it would make more sense to put the kitchen/dining room downstairs next to the cafe and then have a sizeable living room upstairs. Also I would remove this commercial coffee machine and the island counter that goes with it and just add the other espresso machine, not only because of the glitches but also for the annoyance when sims will try to make coffee and fail.
For my tiny town I started with tall walls and then use terrain manipulation and platforms so each house could have whichever wall height suits each house.
Love all your builds, and this one is no exception! Organized debug is probably not working as you expect (buggy) because you’re not supposed to enter manual cheat commands with it. You need to use move objects, etc. through the menu only to avoid issues.
I would move the kitchen downstairs and have living room where the kitchen is. The living room then has nice views and the kitchen is then closer to the cafe 😊
I think the bottom floor should be the bedroom suite, take the bathroom out of the cafe cause they have the Tiny Town Hall. Then the upstairs can be all open floor plan kitch, living dining. He should have a large table because he loves to cook and host parties and the balcony space in the front should be usable for outdoor dinning and a grill/bar set up.
You should make the downstairs area a huge kitchen! That would make the most sense for it to be so close. You can make a bunch and have food storage like an actual cafe would have. Then the upstairs is strictly house space and you will have a living area to put fun stuff.
I know some sims have had their final episodes, but for the rest you could do a final spin the wheel to decide their future (like if they have pets, children or who their partners are)
I think given the fact that Ruben spent the majority of his money on a shared space, the least tiny town can do is spend some of the million bucks to help him with landscaping
There is a smaller espresso machine that came with get together and not only does it place on counters just fine without having to do any tricks it also works even when sized down if you don't like how big it is but just like the big espresso machine it does need a grinder for it to work. Btw the grinder can also be sized down and still work.
A lot houses I’ve seen when looking at floor plans have kitchen downstairs and living upstairs. I think the kitchen would be better downstairs for the space it has. And living would be better up stairs for the view.
It looks great so far! I kinda feel like the functional espresso machine would work better, and the kitchen should be downstairs for ease of access. Also, it would be really nice to see more orange that isn’t wood in the decor to truly embrace his color. I can’t wait to see his finale!
James spending money on an espresso machine that doesn’t work when he could’ve just gotten the slightly smaller one that DOES work is the bane of my existence today 😭😭😭
You said that you're having a habit of placing lots of plants and landscaping like that's a bad thing (it's not!), but it's Tiny Town, so of course Scarlett and Patchy would be helping to make everyone's homes look beautiful! 💚
having a cooking kitchen downstairs is a great idea and having a nice normal kitchen upstairs, the one downstairs uses things that are required to run the cafe.
Mr. James. I think you should swap Sunny's and Ruben's lots. As people spawn in there and it kinda blocks the townhall. With Sunny's lot there on the front there's more visually flow on the entrance of Tiny Town. I LOOOVE this series and commend you for your great builds and LPs
The espresso machine should work, if you raise the kitchen counters up from the level below using MOO, and keep the bar display counter scaled down. The kitchen counters won't be useable, but anything placed on the bar counter should be.
Love the build! I think you should go with a massive table in the kitchen for family time (+ maybe a two seater if you can fit it) and the living room downstairs. Maybe the kitchen is where he hosts and downstairs is his chill area that’s super comfy. Btw the cafe is beautiful.
I love how James thought a coffee machine that doesn't work was more of a priority than a stove or fridge

Definitely would love to see the kitchen in the basement. Love the build!
Also Ruben is giving me big Bob Blecher energy. Lol.
Kitchen downstairs was definitely what I was thinking.
James can put the market stall by a window and have it like a drive through window
Kitchen downstairs makes the most sense!
Btw the grinder can also be sized down and still work.
i love how far james will go to defend the placement of a cypress
You should definitely have the kitchen downstairs with the cafe
A lot houses I’ve seen when looking at floor plans have kitchen downstairs and living upstairs.
I think the kitchen would be better downstairs for the space it has. And living would be better up stairs for the view.
We have that new backsplash we can use behind the stove. I think it's found under wall decorations. They're not expensive.
The kitchen would be more useful downstairs near the cafe. And just for fun: the shower should have a big glass side facing inside the bedroom! xD
It looks great so far! I kinda feel like the functional espresso machine would work better, and the kitchen should be downstairs for ease of access. Also, it would be really nice to see more orange that isn’t wood in the decor to truly embrace his color. I can’t wait to see his finale!
👋🏻 hi. Just checking up on James' page to see if there's a new Tiny Town episode...
Carry on.
James spending money on an espresso machine that doesn’t work when he could’ve just gotten the slightly smaller one that DOES work is the bane of my existence today 😭😭😭
Get to work display fridge is better than the shelf w plates! So that you can put food to sell there and it lasts longer 😊
If you raise the counters from the basement the expresso machine should work.
For the cafe I think that you could add some more half walls and a fence to prevent clients to come in and eat your waffles 😅
Mr.
Kitchen downstairs with a long table for dinner parties would be cool.
Love the build! I think you should go with a massive table in the kitchen for family time (+ maybe a two seater if you can fit it) and the living room downstairs. Maybe the kitchen is where he hosts and downstairs is his chill area that’s super comfy. Btw the cafe is beautiful.
