- Billy Joe Thomas was an American singer widely known as B. J. Thomas for his pop, country, and Christian hits of the 1960s and 1970s. He made popular recordings of "Hooked on a Feeling" (1968), "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" (1969) and "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" (1975).
Early life
Thomas was born in Hugo, Oklahoma, on August 7, 1942. He grew up in and around Houston, Texas, graduating from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg. Before his solo career, he sang in a church choir as a teenager, then joined the musical group The Triumphs with Tim Griffith, Tom Griffith , Denver "Zeke" Zatyka , Don Drachenberg , and Ted Mensik . During his senior year, he made friends with Roy Head of Roy Head and The Traits. The Traits and the Triumphs held several Battle of the Bands events in the early 1960s.

Why do you think everyone who dies had sad endings. Bj is a born again Christian who had a great life and now is in heaven with God. If he truly had a sad ending he will never again experience sadness forever more.
I'm just reading through the comments and yours caught my eye. I hope he found peace with God and is in heaven now. Wanted to mention a quick story back in the 80's when I was in Detroit, Michigan. A local Christian radio station sponsored BJ to do a concert at a large old venue. Unfortunately there was a very small crowd as his career was winding down in a theatre that holds several thousand. He seem clearly disappointed and said words about not being sure about Christianity and his salvation. Some people actually walked out. I sure he was just going through a phase like all of us in our walk. May God be with his family at this time.
@@philc.9280 He had Tourette’s Syndrome which affected him at times. When you know the Lord, you know how real He is! He changes everything. BJ Thomas is with Him, now! No more pain, no more sadness; in the most beautiful place there can ever be!
He was just disappointed some christian audiences didn't like him singing his country and pop hits and booed him is all. His personal decision wasn't changed. Don't judge God anointed his voice and blessed his life. He is Home where he belongs now and we who are his siblings in the faith will see him again. Prayers for his family.

It was sad that he got cancer, but he gave his life to Christ long ago. He's where he wants to be. We should all be so lucky!

Mr.Thomas was so much more than a singer. He was and will continue to be an inspiration to so many. His voice can soothe your soul, make you happy, help you rejoice in God's love and bring you to tears all at the same time.
BJ had an early great life but due to pressure, got on drugs. But he accepted Christ in his life and he is now waiting for Christ’s return to judge all of us. Praise God. R.I.P.
My early days was a DJ. On Sundays the Radio Baptist Hour had a testimony by BJ Thomas. If I remember right, he spoke of being on a plane n overdosing n ended speaking with a lady who further witnessed to him. He claimed victory in Jesus.
He is with Christ now. Jesus told the thief on the cross TODAY YOU WILL BE WITH ME IN PARADISE. The Bible says to be absent from the Bible is to be present with the Lord. We don't wait for anything we immediately go into the presence of Christ.

Jesus will come in the Rapture and take his faithful (the church , the saints) back with him. They will meet him in the air. Jesus NEVER sets foot on the earth during this time. It is NOT the 2nd coming. 1 Thessalonians 4:17
After this the 7 years of tribulations begin. Halfway through , (3 1/2 years) the Anti-Christ surfaces and comes into power. He will trick many to believe that he is Christ returned. He will perform miracles , etc. We must know the Bible to not be deceived. He will even show up on the temple mount where Jesus will return. You will know him by his works. The two witnesses will be sent by God to preach the gospel. (Probably Enoch and Elijah , the ONLY two that went to Heaven without physically dying) Eventually , the Anti-Christ will have them killed and leave their bodies on the street for 3 days to show people that HE is more powerful and they are nothing. But then........their bodies will dissappear and return to Heaven. Armageddon now happens and Jesus comes back on a white horse prepared for battle. (The 2nd coming) Jesus brings the church back with him , where he will lock satan and his angels up and Jesus reigns on earth for a thousand years. At the end of the millenium Jesus will put satan and his followers in the Lake of Fire for eternity. This is AFTER the Great White Throne Judgement where all who did not accept Christ will be judged. 🙏
that verse is commonly misunde because of the punctuation being placed incorrectly by King James interpreters. The actual quote is, "I tell you today, you will be with me in my kingdom". Jesus is speaking affirmatively to the theif. Jesus did not go to heaven that day. If you would read the Bible further, you would see that After HE arose HE traveled and spread the gospel for 40 more days on this earth before HE ascended to heaven.

I totally agree with you!! So many have been ignored. BJ Thomas, Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers are so much bigger, better and more successful than those RAP ARTISTS they are putting in! Along with Run DMC, Parliament Funkedelic, The Velvet Underground, etc. They continue to over look The Carpenters, Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, Bobby Vinton, so many more I could mention.The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should change their name. Or build a new one and knock that one into Lake Erie!

And what you fail to see, just check how many crossover hits those artist had in rock and roll music. They had a heck of a lot more than 1/2 the people in the Hall of Fame especially more than the likes of The Velvet Underground, Staple Singers, Roxy Music, just to mention a few. Go look and see how many Top 40 hits those artists I mentioned and come back and tell me, should they be in or should they just erase the whole hall of fame and start over!

Once I heard Hooked on a Feeling I was hooked and bought many albums through the years since the 60's. Wish I had gone to one of his concerts. Such a gentleman and wholesome person. Always loved his song Mama. But everything he sung was a treasure to listen to. He loved what he did and kept performance to large and small audiences many months out of the year.
