    I'm new to your channel, just subbed after watching this trailer build. Anyway, my comment regards wiring, In the last 45 years, I have wired more trailers and bikes than I can keep track of. I truely HATE wiring, but I'm very good at it. I NEVER use the connectors supplied. I buy non insulated butt connectors. I slip on heat shrink tubing, crimp my wires, test everything, then solder every connection and then seal with heat shrink. It adds to your build time, but I've never had corrosion in my wire connections. I'm looking forward to watching more of your builds.

    Get 2 more attachment points for the tongue jack and weld them to the side of the trailer near the wheels. This way if you have a flat on the trailer you can use the tongue jack to change your tire.

    Man, that thing is amazing! Great job! When looking at the tailgate, I thought of a table and sliding or quick release hinges!!! Not sure what the weight is but being able to quickly remove gate that has fold out legs would make a badass portable table for cooking ect. If you had extra hinges on the side or something, you'd only need 2 legs.

    Nice build indeed.
    I have a couple of thoughts.
    Ice, snow, and mud will build up on those runs of wire from the center to the outsides and drag those wires down. I'd suggest using those loop clamps about every 8" or so.
    From considerable experience, I can say those fenders will break those welds from vibration. Actually, the fender breaks, just outside the weld in the heat-affected area. I have found that attaching the top of the fenders to the bed sides will eliminate this problem.

    First of all, excellent work! This is a huge resource for my first trailer build. A few thoughts, I’ll probably go with 2x3 .083 for the frame and use 3x3 3/16 for the spline. I love that aluminum is lightweight but it does corrode and will eventually look dull and gross (even though it’s beautiful right now) maybe raptor line a clear coat over it for the outside of the trailer, I also debated vinyl wrapping it then spraying clear) I probably would have raptor lined the entire frame as any spray paint just doesn’t hold up long term. Sealing the corners with a hard sealant inside the bed would be nice so crap doesn’t build up in the corners. Maybe some tie downs inside the bed for cargo, but that’s all personal preference. I struggle with the height of the tent when trailing being so high. I agree the tent needs to be 6’ up for annex room, etc. ideally I would use 30” linear actuators but I can’t figure out how to mount them outside the box and protect them from the weather. Love that the interior bed is smooth and usable, nothing for anything to catch on. The idea for me would be to use the bottom of the tent to seal against the inside of the trailer so keep the contents dry and the dusty coming off the vehicle out of it. However this greatly reduces storage height for what your bringing camping, so it’s a catch 22. I also debated building like a 10” drawer system 360 degrees around the trailer to seal the contents within the trailer and have the tent raise up from that structure. Obviously trade offs to whatever you do and that’s why it’s rad to build these for ourselves to meet our specific needs. Excellent work, hope you can grow your channel and get some money from the resources you provide.

    Gday mate. Great video 👍. Very similar to what I’m thinking for my quad, and 3.7m dinghy on top. I enjoy ur channel.
    Another option instead of the tape for ur deck, is sikaflex. Does the same, not rattles and no electrolysis from dissimilar metals in contact. Not sure how the cost would compare, and maybe the sika has a higher possibility to be messy, especially when I’m doing it. Interesting to see ur method.

    Would this tilt up so tongue is pointing straight up? I'm really wanting to build something very similar to this to tow behind 4runner but want to stand up on tailgate. Or where it stays on axel and and use a block of some kind (2x4) to keep tongue pointing up. Also I concur with previousl comment saying a budget build would be AWESOME! Cool build man. One question on your design that allows post to pivot (not bind) as the hydraulic struts raise the platform. Since those brackets allow it to pivot, how do you keep it from not moving when the platform is in its top position? Will it shift side to side when climbing in and out the tent or when force is applied in the “pivot motion”?

    I'd love to see a video showing the deployment of the tent... the up and the down... not actually setting up the tent.
    Also... what tent do you have?
    I'm building a trailer and setting up the tent in a similar fashion, my CVT Ranier says the tents 150-175lbs... which is such a useful weight... with the steel frame under it and other crap I have in the tent I'm hoping my pistons are sized right at 60LBs each.

    • @Adv4x4
      @Adv4x4  3 роки тому

      The tent on the trailer is just a smittybilt overlander. It weighs I think 135-145lbs I think the same size struts I used would work for you!

    Whenever I use VHB, I clamp down one end, lift the other, remove the red backing, lay down that end, clamp it and slowly peel as the sheeting falls, you can lay broom handles across the tape before you peel so as to work on your own. As you know, this stuff is not very forgiving and doing it once is best.

    Nice trailer. I have a couple questions please. Very well thought out build. 1. You mounted the Tembren's at 40/60 so did you position with the center of the bracket or center of the hub? They are several inches different... 2. Did you weld the cross member between the suspension brackets? I know you bolted them but missed the welded cross piece, if you did. Seems like that much heat on the nylon washers would be bad, but instructions say to weld them. Thanks for sharing.

    • @Adv4x4
      @Adv4x4  2 роки тому

      Thank you for watching! I put the actual spindle where the hub mounts on the Timbren at the 60% back mark.
      The cross bar is only bolted to each unit not welded.

      @@Adv4x4 Ok good to know.Sorry for another question but I see you used 2x2 1/8 wall. You also used that same material for the tongue. Is that ok or do you have to go to a bigger size 2x3 or 2x2 3/16 wall in order for it to be strong enough? I'm trying to get as much info before I start.

    • @Adv4x4
      @Adv4x4  3 роки тому +1

      I think it all depends on how much your trailer will weigh. For my moto trailer the 2x2 1/8 wall was fine and for the Rtt trailer I did the same but increased the bracing. If I expected the trailer to be really heavy with an extended tongue I’d go 2”x3”

    • @geographyinaction7814

      Welding your Timbrens on makes it much harder to swap them out repair, or even move them if your trailer doesn't track right. Timbren says to bolt on.
