Hi Michael, I don't wish to be pendantic; however, I believe the chord progression is : the 1 (G major) to the 3 altered (B major) to the 4 (C major))... then the 4 as a minor ( Cminor).... am I mistaken? It is used in Beatles songs and a great use of it in "The Air that I breathe" by the Hollies and beautifully covered by KD Lang. Try following the root of each chord with its 3rd.
Yeah, Radiohead actually had to pay royalties to The Hollies due to Creep's similarly to The Air That I Breathe (mostly because they also borrowed part of the melody)

I've hooked into Prince's ''Chaos & Disorder'' in the last few years. Recorded as a snub to the label and the producers, it's deliriously sardonic and bristling with raw energy. Rock and roll at its finest.
Also saw that show about 75 feet from the stage. I walked in there with Radiohead as my favorite band. My friend standing next to me was and is the biggest Prince fan I know. The song starts and we both look at each other with the biggest no f'n way grins on our faces. Probably the single best/most memorable live music experience of my life. This is tops on my "you want to see/hear something really cool?" playlist. Props to Radiohead for fighting to keep this one up on UA-cam.
I didn't start the same way most guitar players did, I discovered Prince in 1982 and he immediately made me want to play guitar. A lot of people don't realize this but Prince Mastered 28 different that's ridiculous and incredible.

Makes sense. Radiohead famously don't really like this song and they went years without playing it at all, though they do occasionally surprise the fans by performing it live. It's a pretty basic song compared to what they wrote later in their careers, and there's a lot to play with when covering it. Point is they don't have an ego about keeping this song close to the chest, and this cover is phenomenal.
Prince blocked this for years from UA-cam. Radiohead was pissed because they said it was their song and he has no business trying to control it. They were honored he covered it and liked his version very much. But they were upset he controlled his version. Prince was always this way. He wanted to release only what he thought was worthy of release. He wished everyone to see him live and not via leaked footage. I respect him for this. But it did hurt him early on. But in the long run, prince was right again. He was always way ahead of his time and the curve.
Dont forget, Thom Yorke sings this but has 2 great guitarists on either side! One on rhythm, another on lead . Prince can rip all 3, genius level.🎸 Plus you know he can play those drums, synths anything he wanted . Sure Thom Yorke is very talented but limited, Nothing Compares to Prince.... maybe Jimi was on that Level....

I was out driving earlier listening to the album the Bends. I was re-falling in love with them. When I got home, I randomly watched While My Guitar Genly Weeps from the George Harrison tribute concert. After watching Prince play the lead at the end, I was reminded how incredible he is. Weird to see this right after. It wasn't even suggested, I was looking at videos I missed.
I remember hearing something about this when it was originally posted - Prince (and/or representatives) tried to do a copyright strike against it but some folks in Radiohead's camp said "hey it's our song, we want to see it!" so the recording remained available. This was before the automated copyright strikes, I'm sure. Unless that story was completely made-up, which is also possible (it is the internet, after all)

Miss Cora Coleman on the drums! She's actually one of my least favorite of Prince's drummers, but her timing is impeccable. I always love watching your reactions to Prince performances, so thank you for this one! There is also a performance of Prince's song "Shhh" from this Coachella show that features Miss CC a lot on drums. Prince's guitar work is stellar on that one as well.
I always thought EVH, SRV and Prince were the best guitarists and oddly enough they were all about the same age. My generation peaked rock guitar because the Beatles made us want to rear it up.
Interestingly (but also very Prince) he seems to have changed the lyrics around. Where Thom sings the song from the perspective of someone a bit obsessed but also feeling inferior to a crush, Price flips it around 190 degrees.

Prince has been my absolute favorite artist since the early 80’s and i always thought this would be a great song for him to cover and when he did, i hated it. I don’t know why exactly. His playing is great, but this version never connected with me. Maybe it was the changing of the lyrics. I hate that i don’t enjoy this cover, but hey, there are hundreds of other songs of his that i still get to appreciate.

Prince is the best, and that's one of my favourite solos of his. But Michael, you gotta re-edit this and correct the second chord: B major, not Bminor. It's almost the hook of the whole tune.

Why on earth would anyone think that? He just loved the song (a lot of people do) and it connects with a lot of people. It's certainly not Radiohead's favorite Radiohead song by a long shot. It's one of the most covered songs ever, and it's the lyrics more so than the song that so many people connect with.

I kind of hate this cover, and I love both Radiohead and Creep. He's playing the chord progression twice as fast as he's singing, so the melody and chords don't match.

Why on earth would anyone think that? He just loved the song (a lot of people do) and it connects with a lot of people. It's certainly not Radiohead's favorite Radiohead song by a long shot. It's one of the most covered songs ever, and it's the lyrics more so than the song that so many people connect with.
