I love this performance. Neil Schon leaves the stage in a pile of smoking ambers. My aunt had the Closing of the Fillmore West vinyl, so I discovered this performance in my formative yute! Love to Bill Graham!

Same here. That solo is so savage, so wicked. Had the same three-record set on vinyl.

Impresario and Latin music lover Bill Graham and the incomparable Santana take charge. Two of the best ever in music and music management. RIP Bill. 👍

@bobjasinski7330 If you ever saw the motion picture Bugsy Bill Graham impressed me with his dance Choreography I knew he loved Afro Cuban music but he demonstrated his mastery of the Rumba . Some authentic and wicked steps . He’s definitely missed in the music industry.

I am grateful to have experienced the magic in the fusion of a
variety of musical generes that manifested in the 60’sand70’s.
Saw Carlos and Miles play together at Stoney Brook University,NY ‘71(maybe’70)
    It was so far out,literally!!!!!!!

I've had every Santana Album and never heard the second track 'In a Silent Way' before. Have to Google to see if it was on any album. I was 10 years old and not into music yet. Still in the fourth grade still figuring out life.... One of my ALL TIME Favorite lineups.

Neal Schon on guitar, going toe to toe with Carlos at age 17. Mind blowing.

@@jesusrivera743 He's acknowledged as much. They weren't competitive in a "who's better" sense, more that they just wanted to bring out the best in each other. Which is the way it should be.

It seemed impossible to improve that lineup, specially with a second lead guitarist... yet a teenage Neal Schon, looking already like the future of rock and roll, did just that. Carlos placed the perfect bet on that phenomenal musical roulette.

      I was there.
Santana and Neil both came back after their encore and played with an assembly of 50 pr 60 of the musicians who had played there during closing week.
We even chanted Om with Alan Ginsberg for about 10 minutes, just before the Tower of Power set.
Graham said he wanted to go home and get some sleep around 5:00 AM, so we took the hint and left - as slowly as the crowd possibly could.
He usually gave out apples at the start of each show, this time, he gave them away at the end, too.
I saw at least another dozen or so shows he put on across the western states - Seattle, Eugene, Portland, Boise, Salt Lake, Reno, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Tuscon.
He was a peerless showman and had a huge hand in introducing and sponsoring a major amount of talent that came to be the best music of the era.

Big Dog Talk. I apologize on his behalf of him speaking with vulgar language to his Assistant, but The Good Jew was under pressure. DAMN 🙆🏽‍♂️ BUT THAT'S WHAT IT TOOK TO BOOK SANTANA FOR THE LAST SHOW AT THE FILLMORE. Coincidentally I should be Managing at the the Fillmore in Silver Springs, MD. u.s. ✡

Fantastic performance by Santana, but Bill Graham was VERY ABUSIVE to that poor woman who told him about the phone call from CBS!!!! 💩💩💩 No matter who the F you are, people deserve RESPECT, whether under pressure or not!!! 🤬 Definitely have a MUCH less favorable opinion of him now.

Great songs! I find it curious though, they barely showed Carlos playing, especially when it was a lead line. You did see Neal off in the distance doing a lead but it guess it was more important to do the artsy fartsy split images (ala Woodstock) rather than show the guy who's name is the band's name. 💖✨🔥⚡

    • @jesusrivera743
      @jesusrivera743 6 місяців тому +2

@pissingelk Neal will be the first to tell you he couldn’t have a better tutor or mentor then Carlos . To be taken under his wings at such an early age 17 was invaluable. Neal had the talent but it took more then that to have gotten to where he is now. Neal give’s Carlos a lot of credit for teaching him about music , the business end of it , stage presences and guitar techniques and influences ….Great for a humble 17 year old kid to have.
