The photography, the musical score, the acting, was all top drawer. A fine cast of British acting talent, we’ll never see the likes of this epic again, sadly.

The real private Hook was a methodist and an active member of the "temperance movement". He never touched alcohol. He ended up working for the British museum in London dusting the exhibits and books . A good man like most soldiers throughout history past and present and from good honest stock in Gloucestershire.

Quite a few of the actors didn't get to go to the location in South Africa, Hook ( James Booth) and most of the residents of the hospital building and the surgeon played by Patrick Magee filmed all their interior scenes back at the film studios in England, it all matches together very well and it is very well staged to give the impression that it is all one place, in this scene for example a Zulu is filmed jumping through the hole in the straw roof of the hospital at the location in South Africa, and as he appears inside the building and drops to the floor to be shot by Hook , we are back at the studio set in England, same for when a Zulu throws a spear down through the gap in the roof, the view looking down as the spear kills one of the men is back in the studio, it is just so well done that it is fascinating to view this movie and appreciate what a tremendous piece of film making it is.

Why didn't the Zulu's get to the front of the wall, then get every soldier that was there to use their shields in tandem as mini catapults, throwing over each successive wave of Zulus as they came in (the one's that survived the rifle fire, of course). Seems like a good strategy to me. Better that trying to climb over the barricades one at a time and getting shot down one after the other.

The warriors Zulu didn't fight like thiss. They fought very well to protect their land and families.
And The British lost 30,000 of their soldiers because of their red coat.

This movie very much happened in real life.
And aside from the time 1800 British troops were attacked by 20,000 zulus, the British pretty resoundingly kicked their asses.

Some were. They took them from the dead British soldiers at Isandlwana. However, they had never used sighted rifles before and didn't know how to aim properly so they weren't of much help during the battle.

@@Historylover-ho6lg The Zulus who fought at Rorkes Drift had not fought at Isandhlwana. The firearms they were using were not Martini Henry service rifles, but muskets obtained from traders.

@@Historylover-ho6lg No, they didn't take rifles from the battlefield, they were not on the Isandlwana battlefield, so how could they have got rifles? The Zulus who fought at Rorkes Drift were from the reserve of the Zulu army, the uDloko, uThulwana and inDlondlo regiments. They swung wide of Isandlwana, to the west, to cross the Bufflalo into Natal where they raided farms and fought at Rorkes Drift.

Around 1 in 4 or 5 Zulus were armed with a gun. So out of a force of 4,000 Zulus there would have been circa 1,000 guns among them.

The British brought the wheel and space travel, however their culture and genetics must be in the minority, though race mixing and whites staying in the New World is obviously fine, and a great cultural narrative to add to aboriginal New World cultures.

This was not Zululand. The Zulus crossed the Buffalo River onto Natal to attack Rorkes Drift.
The Zulus were also not indigenous to South Africa either. They were Bantu people from the north. The Zulus invaded what became Zululand and took it off others who were there before them.
