I think you are right about that heavy casting deck in the bow. Maybe you can make one out of plywood and replace it. Also, I was always taught that at WOT, the correct prop will get the rpms as close as possible to the max rpms of the motor without going over. If the max rpm of that motor is 6000, I would shoot for 5800 at WOT. That's great that you have the tachometer now and the new stainless prop is nice and will be helpful. Keep up the good work.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah thats what I'm being told and it makes sense! Thanks again & Stay tuned !
Great to see you healing up,somewhat ! Well as that SS prop's more agressive pitch & rake is moving more water, it loads up the motor and RPM are held back. Indeed, less dead weight in front is called for before you tinker again with prop size, rake and pitch variations. At least, now the tach gives you a reliable measuring tool. Keep safe !
Looked and sounded better out on the water with the new prop. Your lucky down there where you can get out on the water during the winter months. All I can do here is winterize and put it away under cover till March around here. Which means come up with indoor videos
Hey Yeah Its been great weather thanks to El Nino. or what ever its called! Hahaha Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
This will be interesting-damn shame to rip that nice deck out, but it should help…Merry Christmas! 🎄
It was only temporary anyway until plywood prices came back down. It's not just a speed issue. It's so heavy It throws off the whole boat. Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
That's one nice prop for $35! It's a steal... Stainless steel. Less flex gives it less slip in the water and better speed than an aluminum prop of the same specs.. Only problem is just don't hit anything with this prop while running as it will break your drive shaft instead of the prop.
Not supposed too you should spin hub first JT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐟🐠🎣🛥🌴⛱🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Oh Great. Hahaha Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
@@hookednrolling2009 It should but experience by many have proved otherwise sadly. Just ask your local marine repair shop.

Damn good price on stainless prop! Glad you feelin better. Don’t overdo it!!
Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
That’s a great looking prop!!! 😅 👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah but it weighs a ton! Thanks again !
Try putting less candles on your next birthday cake. refuse to except the fact you are older.
Hahaha. Okay. Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
It's 60 degrees in florida. Time to get out the thermal undies!
And turn the heat up to 80. Hahaha Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
Your putting a lb ot of stock in going faster , some boats are ment to go 30 and some are 50 and I think yours isn’t a 50 mph boat ! It could be the ribbing or the shape of your hull nEXAMPLE !! I’d go with the power Kind all day ! That boat used to be a runabout until it was modified … right ? So maybe the spine is broken ? I’d blame the boat not the motor !
Hey. It's not about going faster. It's about why Its going slower. I'm not blaming the Johnson. Original Prop, Spun hub, Oh, ok. Try some other props, ok. Boat broken? I don't think so, and hope not, but one thing at a time baby! Thanks again !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 I get that but for some reason the outboard isn’t performing the way you feel it should and probably rightfully so ! I’m kinda thinking out load and wondering 2 things …. Either it’s the motor or it’s the boat and from there 4 things if it’s the motor is it electrical or fuel and if it’s the boat is it structural or mechanical and so on and so ! That’s what my process does on diagnosis . I feel your pain both body and mind ( 4 back operations and morphine pump implant ) but what can I do except offering you my opinion ? I don’t mean to upset you I’m just trying to help in the only way I can right now .
@@davekimbler2308 Hey. Yeah. Thats what I've been going through. Can't find anything wrong with the motor. Same compression, no water in the gearcase, timing hasn't changed, new plugs. boat bottom looks good. I've narrowed it down to the prop. That original prop is from the 70's, to bad the hub spun, but it has more rake then the other props and over the years its been ground down. I even buzzed it with the grinder to clean it up when I first got it. I measured it the other day and its no longer 13 diameter, it's now 12.5 diameter. Turning less metal its faster. Everyone talks diameter and pitch but nobody ever brings up Rake. I can still by that prop on ebay, new for about $100 but it will be 13 diameter. The only way to get under 13inch diameter is to go up to 21 pitch prop. Do I want to go 21, I dont know yet. Happy Holidays !
It looks like that 19 pitch prop is a little too much pitch for your boat hull and weight in the boat. If you can find a stainless steel 17 pitch prop at the same diameter you should be 5500 to 6000 rpm and actually go faster. Stainless Steel props have thinner blades that are still much stiffer than Aluminum blades so they loose less pitch when running at top speed. When you lug an engine the boat can't go as fast. I have two stainless steel props for my 50 hp Johnson and the lower pitch prop is the faster prop. I will look at my spare stainless prop and see if by chance it is the one you need.
Hey Frank. Thanks again for tuning in. I have a 13x17 ss prop. It was the first one I tried a few episodes back, right before I put that beat up prop on and I always thought a 17p might be great for this boat. I had another guy tell me that every time he went down in pitch he got faster. Or did he mean diameter? Anyway, I was turning high rpms, around 6000 but no change in speed. Now the original prop seems to be the "leader" here. And what I've found out was, over the years its been "down sized" from grinding the edges. I even buzzed it with the grinder to clean it up when I first got it. I measured the blades from the center and they are now 6 inches which makes it a 12x19. Unfortunately I didn't have a tach before it spun out. So its leading me to believe smaller diameter, less drag, same pitch, is why its been the quiker prop.? And I think the rpm's were in range the way that thing ripped! Hahaha. I will try that ss 17p again when I replace that heavy casting deck , it was a nice smooth ride, and look around for a cheap 12x19. Thanks again & Stay tuned for the nexy episode !
When I got my boat it came with 3 props, stainless 17, steel 17, and a steel 19 on the motor. I thought I was good with it until an ol' marina owner said to try the stainless. It comes out of the hole and on plane the exact same but I went from 5800 WOT to 6200 and gained 3mph -and the response while feathering wakes/swells seems much better. I agree with the less pitch being better.
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 when you drop or add 1/2 in in diameter you change rpm by 50 JT 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐠🐟🛥🌴⛱🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi what are the prop specs and rpm and speeds? Also what is the dry weight of your boat? Thank you. Bill
For you 50 hp rude
You should try a chiropractor for a few sessions and see if it helps you. They have ultrasound systems that can relax and help heal the sciatic nerve. I never believed in them until I was in a situation like yours. Helped tremendously. That’s a nice prop you picked up. Stainless gives you better performance. That’s what I have on both of mine. Hope your feeling better and catch you in the next one!
Hey. Yeah I may have to do that. Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
I've got a 17 on my little 15ft Aluminum Star Craft open bow, get more RPM's and 34mph. Would LOVE to try a 19 pitch on the old 1984 70hp triple I have, and for 35 bucks? That's a steal. I've moved into the logging part of the year....and if I stop. I'm done. Arthur just runs wild and I won't get going again until the temps get past 70...so I endure. :) Hoping to build another 70hp, I have all the machine work done. I acquired a 75 "stinger" that might be a runner and an electric shift 50 triple that certainly is. Have three controllers to blend into one for that e-shifter..:) Hoping when winter sets in to get both of them going to test out this coming spring .. Please keep up the old outboard fun and games, keeps me remembering why I do this and gives hope for the summer :) Happy Holidays !
Hey. Check ebay there's some deals on there for used and new props. Sounds cool! Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
Agreed it sounds much better. Here there is no spares or even wrecks I have to hit the bolt shop, they are pretty good & cheap so long as you know exactly size / thread or have one to show em. Hey dude I get a bad back too from years concreting and arboriculture work. Only thing that works for me it pops some pain killers & in and out of a piping hot bath all day and (try) sleep the pain away. But a hot bath really helps. Nice day for it - have a good holiday.
Hey. Yeah I would kill for a bath tub. I use a heating pad a lot. My electric bill went up $10! Hahaha Thanks again !
What was wot and speed and the pitch on new prop is it more or less than the aluminum. Why would pull that deck out the boat does what 32 mph you are on a lake why do you need to do 39 mph to get to your dock 5 sec sooner maybe use 1/8” aluminum and just skin the top of deck JT oh you need to keep going on filming oh yeah 🇺🇸🇺🇸🐟🐠🎣🛥🌴⛱🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hey. That deck is made from corian board made by dupont. It's unbelievably heavy and has ruin the balance of the boat. I only put it in temporarily because plywood was so expensive at the time. I'd like to stay with my original plan and keep the boat as light as possible. Comparing prop speed is really a whole different issue. Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
Your sciatic nerve goes all the way down to your toe. That’s probably what your problem is I have a bad back and neck keep keeping on and I will see you in the next one 👍🏻🤘🏻
Hey. Thanks !
Save the exhaust coverbplates off that 70. They are notorious for warping and dumping water into the jug. Lots of bolts to save too!!!
Hey. Yeah I could barely get 2 bolts out of it. Too corroded, snaping off. But I got everything else that didn't break. Thanks again & Happy Holidays!
I wouldn't worry about top speed unless ur racing another 60hp guy, who cares.. take care of ur old motor.. mine runs like a top
I'm not worried about it. It's a long story!
U will either plane out quicker or go faster! You won't get both.. personally I'd rather go slower and plain out faster.. get the hole shot, speed is for bigger motors
Like I said, long story! Hahaha
Ice packs on your lower right back and the back of your right thigh-the ones that get so cold you can barely stand it. Best friend had that nerve problem and that's the only thing that would pull him out of it, getting that coldness deep.
Hey. Yeah it helps! Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
You definitely should see a doctor get at least pain pills for relief I have had hip replacement bulging disc pinched nerve lower lumbar back I know what it feels like
I may have to! Thanks again !
I may have missed an episode or just forgotten, but maybe the motor is sitting a little lower on the transom causing a little more drag? I know on some hulls an inch or two can make a difference.
No. Go back to the episode I put the 60 on. It's perfect! Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
My 92 Evinrude 60hp. Pushed my Nitro 1600TF 42mph at 5800rpm.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Thats a Bassboat right. What prop did you have on it? Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
Yeah it is the smallest fiberglass one Bass Tracker made back then. I should have prefaced that by saying that is with one person. It does drop about 5mph when you add a second person. I'll try to check the prop tomorrow. It is backed into the garage with stuff piled all over it for winter now.
2 years ago I forgot to fill the oil tank. I bought oil and left it at the campground. Things were so chaotic I thought I filled it as I just remembered buying the oil. That fall I ran it out and burned up the top cylinder. The audible alarm was corroded and never went off.
I was going to overhaul it, but found a good deal on a 2012 75hp Evinrude etec. on Ebay. It was supposed to run good. When I got it, it didn't run at all. I now have almost as much into it as I could have bought a brand new motor, and it still doesn't run quite right.
Now I am thinking I should get that 75hp fixed and sell it. Use the money to rebuild that 60hp. It is much lighter and actually about 6mph faster. I must admit I love the quietness of the new one and the easy starts, but parts are insane and seem like it takes nothing for them to go bad.
In all the time I owned that 60hp I only put 1 new regulator rectifier on it and few new plugs that was it.
Careful you don’t wanna scratch Vanna 😂 using her as a workbench .
I am. Hahaha Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
My spare prop is a 12.25 x 19 of a 50 hp. probably won't work on your motor, sorry
Hey yes it will if its 13 spline and 4 1/4 gearcase. I gave you the wrong dimensions, the blades are 6 1/4 from center not 6. I looked all over for a prop smaller than 13 and couldn't find anything unless I went to a 21-23 pitch. What part number is it. Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
I got a jeep Cherokee for sale you should come buy it and get rid of the van
Why? I luv Vanna White!
Why don't you try losing some weight🤣
Hahaha Happy Holidays !
You are man in Fla. Outboards push in a boat
Thanks for tuning in!
Glad you're back is better
Hey. Yeah. Hahaha Keep watching!
A boat dog ! Coral snakes or water snakes. Gators too jack
Thanks for tuning in!
I have the same problem with pull starts, what I do is extend the length of rope thro'the handle and plait about a foot of plait before the knot in the handle. That gives me access to a two handed pull, one one the handle, one on the plaited rope.
Hey. Tune up your outboard and you shouldn't need 2 hands. Let the outboard do the work! Thanks again & Happy Holidays !

What editing program do you use? I need editing help. I tried using the Force, but the Force is not strong in this one. My Midi-chlorian count is too low. lol. Thanks cheers🇨🇦 👍
Hey. I use videopad. It's simple and easy. There may still be a free version but if you go overboard with it they will bug you to pay for it and stop the free version. And what I mean by overboard is, adding to many sound tracks, stuff like that. So keep it simple!

did you tap the primer at WOT
No. But I will. I promise! Thanks again & Happy Holidays !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 you too merry Christmas. yea hitting the primer will tell you immediately weather its rich, lean, or just right. a must when swapping carbs. lots of subtle changes in these 3cyl motors over the year so new carbs might not match up like you think they will. ive done this many times.
