funny feature about the Bath House. your armour can actually get dirty after going through an X amount of hunts. when you go to the bath house it will make your armour all shiny again
Honestly the karakuri system is my favorite gimmick in any game I’ve played. I personally main the maul and I use the spring attack at least 10 times a hunt to close gaps, and the stake attack is incredible for slamming flying kemono back into the ground. Don’t even get me started on how fun the fusion karakuri are. Is an enemy charging up a big attack? Hit it with a massive fucking hammer. Is there an attack coming you don’t think you can dodge? Put up a shield wall. It just feels so right and I adore it
I agree. I use the nodachi and the spring is necessary for both us heavy weapon users but the triangle attack coming off the spring charges my entire special bar. Love it
Even with the cannon, which by itself just seems like you wanna get in into laser mode, but in practice some of the harder monsters, either getting your heat up with the fires or the spring and then doing a jump shot off of a 3 box stack is a great way to do dmg. Then using the glider or a jumping shot (which works kinda like the lance’s back hops in MH) and keeping your dodge only for well, actually dodging. I mean… the laser is still great, but not always practical in solo play if you’re constantly dodging cuz some wolf or monkey won’t. Stop. Jumping. Around…
@@mkv2718 the monkey can get fucked. It is easily the most annoying monster. More specifically the cobalt version. I use the staff and could never get a full gauge because hed just spazz out.
Dude, honest to God, I would wait another year or perhaps even more if it meant a video game had a stable release. I bought the game, I'm playing it despite all the performance problems, and that's the only complaint I have, besides a minor (major to some) performance issue the game is just straight up, unfiltered FUN.
Explain this viewpoint to me, please. Why get them to wait for a year or more when you can play it right now or choose to wait a year, yourself? I've never understood and recently got curious.
@jcc4543 Monster Hunter fixed the issues along the way, though. In general, games tend to fix games for the most part, before releasing DLC, so that they can draw attention to the DLC without a tainted game reputation.
Playing anything on release is a mistake nearly always, a year or two later and the game is always patched into a better state and usually cost half the price or less in a sale. Also, a year later when the hype surround a game has died down, you can find much better reviews on whether the game is actually worth your time or not.
I don't think any sacrifice is needed to have what should be a standard, if not normal release. I think people are getting into Stockholm Syndrome point and consider it extraordinary now.
@@SurrealEuphoria just for developments sake really. its to allow companies to really take their time on smaller features, issues with clients, game-breaking bugs etc. but with companies feeling pressured to release new games yearly a lot of quality is being lost.
I’ve been playing on the Series S and it’s a bit choppy at times and the environment textures are a bit blocky but the combat is awesome and the karakuri system is really fun. Once it gets the bugs patched I think more people will gravitate. I’m hoping we get to see more of the title wether through a sequel or expansions I’ve been having a lot of fun with it.
I’m a first fleet veteran, I held back on picking this up but wish I hadn’t. It’s got small faults you soon forget once you get into it. The art style doesn’t come across very well from trailers and from UA-cam but it’s breathtaking. Nice thorough review!
29:40 They fixed it in the latest patch. You can now destroy all types of karakuri from the map screen. The dev team really are listening to feedback and it seems like they're still not done with new monster updates. The game today really feels like the one they wanted to release, and the fact they keep adding to it is awesome. Hope they do a full on expansion.
I think the story of wild hearts is worth paying attention to. The characters and the social dynamic in Minato is very interesting if you take the time to listen to all the dialog in the side quests and the optional dialog (plain gold arrows). It doesn't push the story on you after the beginning so you can skip on through to get to the hunts, which is nice design for those that don't care, but if you like stories like I do you have to go find it, and I think it is worth your time.
Personally I find the game really challenging, which is something I haven't heard before in video's/reviews. Kemono are super agressive, and they are much harder to dodge and counter than in Monster Hunter (world/rise). I will run through an average of 30 heals in 1 hunt if not more, just because I can't be as agressive or will get punished hard for trying to dps (with all weapons). Or alternatvely I am just bad...
@@togil1151 my only beef with the range weapons is that the target cam (which they call the snap cam) doesn’t work with your weapon out. Got so used to auto targeting with my gun in MH that it really annoys me to have to turn the camera all the way around when a monster runs past me. Hope they fix that.
I would say the same thing I say to Dark Souls players playing Sekiro for the first time: sprint more. Sprint everywhere. Your stamina only stops from filling when you sprint, it doesn’t actually take stamina. And the slide dodge goes really far Also, in lieu of the of the MH Superman dive get used to placing a spring down instead of panic rolling and using that spring to dodge away, it has crazy s, and gets more as you upgrade it.
I share the common opinion that it looks super fun and I'd deffo get it and give it a try, however $70 is absolutely nuts so I will ABSOLUTELY only buy this game on sale.
I love the "would gladly pay 60 for a game... BUT 70 IS INSANE, UNTHINKABLE" mentality. As if one would invest those 10 dollars and turn it into a million in 2 months.
@@Ocean5ix good point, but i rarely even buy $60 games. I normally wait for the price to be around $45 - $50 MAX since money isn't really something I can just throw around lol.
@@Ocean5ix it released unfinished for most people with normal hardware. Either you have a beefy PC, or you struggle in the second half of the game. Fix obvious issues on representative hardware first, then release and charge for it. But shipping unfinished stuff simply doesn't deserve full price, no matter if 60 or 100 bucks. I will definitely buy this game, but I also wait for a really good sale for two reasons: I get the game for less than half the price, and i get it properly tested. Pro consumer mentality. Nothing more, nothing less.
I love the game, but I definitely agree with your point on other people's kataguri. I hope they implement an option in the settings that still allows others to place kataguri, but after the hunt all kataguri placed by other hunters will be deleted. That way you can set up the map the way you like it and other people can place structures for one time uses. Other than that I really love this game and have been addicted.
Wait what? In multiplayer only the host can build during hunts? that is a bit odd tho I can imagine it could impact the games performance quite heavily if 4 players were springing up contraptions simultaneusly during the hunt.. but still..
@elite reptilian no everyone can build during hunts. The problem with that is the dragon kataturi which are the more permanent ones like forges and camps have a cost system so you can't have too many on the map. Which is a problem because say I hunt with you and place something to help me get to where I need to go for that hunt. It'll stay and drain resource. So I suggest other people can still build dragon kataguri, but they will be deleted after they leave your instance.
Definitely agree on the balance. This game goes back and forth from real easy to incredibly hard the further you get in the game. Definitely had some really unfair late game. Still loving this game even with the issues it presents. Iron sharpens iron and MH needed a competitor.
That first bit when you criticized EA, I don't disagree but it's funny to me. EA used to be like the standard for good games back in the day. Then again that was back before the online era of gaming.
I'm on series s had no issues at all yet, it's ran perfectly for me since trial and launch been playing from midnight on the 17th, it's amazing I really love it. Definitely alot of potential to do something great here, but we'll see in time.
As aMH: World veteran, this game looked so interesting to me that it made me start MH:Rise on game pass xD I'll come back to it in like 6 months when it will be fixed, patched, updated amd maybe even included in said pass!
I think the issue people have with the designs of the kemonos is that they're not that memorable, if you look at them, they're not significantly different from a rather generic "big animal with stuff around it" Even if they're meant to be "just animals with magical stuff" and they don't necessarily look bad, they could have a more unique and memorable design as I would not run out to buy merchandise from these monsters the way I do with the MH ones
The monsters being more in tune with real world animals makes a lot of them more memorable in my opinion. One of the things the genre was lacking before this was damn near all the monsters are just pure fantasy shit. The fact that you're fighting an actual giant porkypine, chicken, an ice wolf, a poisonous crow, and giant badger that uses sniff attacks to pull you in is great. Wild Heart's designs are more grounded than monster hunters and that alone makes it unique. I can't tell you how many times in MHW where I thought the dev team just picked up a random fantasy novel and picked out some hard to pronounce monster and put it in the game.
Thank you for the well crafted review and for not hammering the performance issues that most people already know about. It really cleared out some questions and doubts i had about the game
I’ve not played a monster Hunter style game since 4 ultimate, and I absolutely loved it. I haven’t had the chance to play the more recent entires due to not having a powerful enough pc, or the new 3ds, or a switch etc. So I’ve been missing a good monster Hunter style experience for a long time. I had no idea this game was a thing until it came out. I got it, and I honestly really enjoy it. It’s very bug free, which people don’t seem to mention but is a step above most AAA titles these days. I could easily see myself playing it as it reignites that spark that got me into Mh in the first place. Although I did end up refunding it for the performance issues, I don’t mind waiting a bit but as it stands it’s clear it needs a little clean up.
This post doesn’t even make sense to me - if you currently have a good enough PC or console to play Wild Hearts on release, and you’ve been craving a monster Hunter game, and you haven’t played one since 4u, why not just buy a modern monster Hunter game?
@@seano6859 cause I only got this pc last year, I’d simply not gotten around to getting world or rise yet. However now that wild hearts has reminded me how much I enjoy the genre I’m most definitely going to go back and play some of world and rise now I have the opportunity to.
When Wild Hearts first came out, I brushed it off as a Great Value Monster Hunter. And since EA was attached to it, I didn't have any interest. So I never looked into it. But now, actually watching a video on the game, it looks interesting and this video convinced me to think about getting Wild Hearts.
I'm very happy this game is good! It'll force the MH team to really work on making Mon Hun better, not that they have been lazy but you get what I mean
Its definitely better than MH to me. It's a faster paced game that actually allows you to dodge monsters attacks if you learn the timing simply by dodging and you can move faster than a snail with your weapon drawn.
@@demonintellect9834 Bruhhhh... WH combat is so easy and combo spammable that they had to overtune the tracking of the monsters to an absurd degree to offset it. MH on the other hand, getting to know how to optimally use weapons itself is a boss...
Wait, people think it looks ONLY a BIT better than Rise??? The game looks pretty freaking amazing. I play Rise on the PS5 with max settings, and it's not half as good looking (and no, I'm not hating on Rise, it's one of my favorite games). I feel like the artstyle carries both games, but you can't really compare a switch game to a next-gen console and PC game. Oh yeah, uhhhh price, performance, did I mention everything?
The nice thing about the skills in the weapons is that you never end up with skill for a weapon you’re not using, and thus “wasting” space. Also, if you think the hand cannon is cheesy, try the bow. Glider shot > unload charge volley > repeat. Fun way to play the cannon against monsters like the monkey or deathstalker if you (like I did) have a hard time finding time to charge the laser is just fire 2 shots off of a spring jump, then expel the heat off of a 3 box-stack jump attack. Not as much burst dmg as the laser, but higher consistent dmg than just shooting and never getting a laser cuz some wolf won’t stop jumping around 😤… oh, and one more thing I noticed, the jump shot fires you back a ton and uses no heat, so it’s a really useful back step similar to the lance’s back hops. Way more mobile than its rolls, that for certain. Speaking of destroying karakuri from the map, you can already upgrade dragon pits from the map once you find them, so it wouldn’t be hard to do.
I must say the combat is a lot more engaging in Wild hearts. The kurikuri system really is super engaging and everyone has personalization. Yeah we don't get that many weapons compared to rise but they are all so different
I do also hope they add a feature to have "layered" weapons, I do like most of the weapon designs, but an example as why is I find myself upgrading a weapon and a better upgrade to ky weapon might change the way the weapon looks and i dont like the look of it
Very good review. I would have bought it already if performance issues where not there. I'll buy it between 0 and 30 dollars now, even when performance gets fixed before a sale. I don't support unfinished stuff with 70 bucks ...
My biggest issue with this game is the camera angle sucks and the monsters moves arent telegraphed well enough for you to know where something hits or starts
@@SuperRADLemon maybe its cause im using the odachi. But I can also say that I haven't had 300 hours in it fighting them over and over so this comment might be too early for me to say
The performance issues really rear their heads during online play. For me on my PS5, it’s generally fine until I coop. Then I’m literally playing on the moon.
Definitely sounds like something I’d enjoy on sale after a little waiting. Would also be nice to have a hunting game other than MH to play as well. Especially since the little that I’ve tried of PSO2 never really hooked me.
This game is better than MH. I'm not an old school MH player but I did beat rise and world and this game is just superior. MH has 1 correct way to play any weapon, this game has multiple ways due to the freedom the building tools provide.
@@demonintellect9834 I wouldn't say Wild Hearts is better than Sunbreak, Wild Hearts somehow managed to have a worse end game imo while the mechanics of the weapons are great, there's not really any fights I'd consider to be more enjoyable than Sunbreak, but maybe it's too unfair of a comparison since Sunbreak has had some of the best made fights in the MH series
@@ortah2616 Sunbreak had no real endgame. Then again I dont really consider any of the hunt big monster games to have an endgame. It basically is just hunt stuff to make it easier to hunt stuff. Also we haven't seen the roadmap or any of the content WH is getting added.
I've definitely felt the performance hits on PS5, especially during multiplayer where things basically turn into a nightmare of slow motion and animation snapping. Aside from the issues though I really am enjoying this game. The weapons feel unique and insanely satisfying to use, Claw Blade in particular is my favorite but everything else doesn't trail too far behind apart from the Umbrella maybe, and the game really hammers home how focused it is on the actual combat portion and I'm loving it for that. Hoping to find some form of transmog system waiting for me later down the road though since a lot of armors do look a bit goofy.
One point here I absolutely disagree with: You need to use karakuri. It isn't optional past low rank. Against the low rank monsters (chapters 1-2) sure you can play relatively well without them (even there I'd argue that's a horrible idea), but the higher you go the faster, more ferocious, and just generally untenable the monsters get and not in the same way Monster Hunter does things. Some of these creatures just outright do not stop attacking, _ever,_ and will chain attack after attack after attack. The only way to deal with them is forcing openings with karakuri either by using mobility to weave around them and attack them from positions they can't deal with or outright immobilizing them with the various traps. If you don't use the karakuri, you not just playing suboptimally, you're essentially shooting yourself in the foot. It'd be like trying not to use the Wire Bugs in Rise. The game is balanced from the ground up assuming you're going to use them and if you don't you _will_ be punished for it.
gotta say it is a fuckin masterpiece, i literally stopped going to work so i could play more. between the massive weapon trees, the little cog bots, amazing armors, and cranking 90s on massive monsters there is nothing ide rather play
Wonderful and an balanced review, I really appreciated it. I’m not able to get into this game as of now, but will for sure jump into it next year with my friends. Would you concider to do in update down the line about the end game and eventual changes to the game once it arrives?
I was exaggerating to be honest cause I do like Rise just haven’t liked any others in the past but to me wild hearts feels more mature in tone and it fits my gaming needs nicely lol
@@tpmgaming999 am sorry what? like heard how the voices are meh but not that bad that someone just quit like that. I rewatch some of them and to me there ok and don't how there that bad? I mean there are annoying characters like the handler girl but can't you just skip the cutscenes? or am just remembering that wrong? also what do mean by mature? monster hunter has good amount silly and goofy stuff like some the weapons but at the end of the day you are killing and the animals and creatures of the environment?
I think the biggest complaint about really does come down to the memorability or core design of them as none of them are really all that striking or memorable. Sure they fit the theme but they lack the same kind of personality or intrigue, and it's not cause they're not fantastical beast like a zinogre or something. But moreso they're too busy or underdeveloped in my opinion. Where as something like sif in dark souls is far more memorable and interesting and it's just a giant wolf. At least that's how I see it That being said, I agree with almost every other one of your points. This game is a really fun side dish while I wait for the next mh
If MH got canceled and WH took its spot I'd be happy. MH has too much of an elitist fanbase that wants the game to stay clunky to make it "hard". Proof of this is by how much bitching there was about rise being too streamlined.
@@demonintellect9834 what the fuck are you even on about? Sure there some bad egg in the monster hunter community but that just every fan base. Plus this has nothing to do with the community is about the creature design.
Kemono keh-moh-noh (you can pronounce it as if you're about to say "kay," but stop halfway through) Generally just means "beast," but in this context it could have a "of a wild and unexplainable nature" added meaning. This is a distinct term from "doubutsu," which is a catch-all term for "animal." Kimono kee-moh-noh Name for a specific kind of dress, and rarely COULD be used to mean "wearable object"
Won't be able to play it anytime soon as I'm still stuck with a ps4 and no pc. But I do plan on trying it at some point. Looks like a good time overall.
Honestly, after playing 50+ hours there’s a lot of flaws I wasn’t expecting in the game. High Rank you get to fight THREE new monsters that aren’t subspecies (also some monsters you previously got to fight you just, can’t fight in high rank? Which is dumb?), which is extremely disappointing. The second thing that is extremely disappointing is that they just, simply didn’t make unique armors for the monsters. Over half the armors that aren’t the local armors (which are not good skill wise) are armors combined between two monsters. This includes subspecies, which is also extremely disappointing. Paired with the fact that they removed some of the monsters in high rank that had their own unique monsters, it’s very frustrating to me and makes grinding in general feel VERY unrewarding. (Doesn’t help that the high rank equivalent of armors are just color changed and nothing else) I also feel this way with the weapons. I haven’t looked into some of the weapons, but I also have zero motivation to grind for them as well considering after a certain point you don’t get any new weapon designs and you need specific part break rewards x5 for them; meaning if your unlucky and don’t break that part, you have to fight it at least 5 times. That wouldn’t be so bad if not for the fact that that high rank monsters didn’t only have maybe two new moves and are completely predictable after 1-2 fights (which you’ll do in low rank). That’s a more personal nitpick though because plenty of people like grinding. I typically do as well, considering I have 800+ hours in both MHworld and MHrise. I also absolutely HATE the fact that they did not think about how battle affects the terrain your fighting on. During the Ameratsu fight, the back area with the broken stuff over it you CANNOT build on. Meaning if you fight over there because she will fly over there, you cannot defend yourself with fusion karakuri at all. This also happens often during fights on the main maps as well, your not aloud to place karakuri over stupid environmental crap like sticks that are literally only there to make the map look more immersive. This has gotten me killed a multitude of times considering karakuri is essential for fighting in this game. (Oh also the camera is god awful and the hitboxes for some of the monsters, mainly Tusk, is bad) There’s also some QoL changes I have no idea why they never included to begin with, mainly a wishlist for the armor and weapons. That’s my main complaints though, the game in high rank feels very unrewarding and I feel like I have no reason to continue grinding and playing, the only thing I’m continuing on for is to fight those new three new monsters and see their armor (because in highly doubt their weapon will look nice unfortunately). The game feels good to play otherwise, I like the weapon tree skills, the human-kemono path armors, the way karakuri is integrated into the game and the map design is nice despite it being unoptimized even on console, but the game is absolutely not worth 70$. I was lucky and split the game and got it for 40$. Not sure if I’d even say it’s worth more then that considering we both can agree the story is also bad. It feels to me like how people said base rise was before title updates because outside of very nice map updates, there are zero changes that are worth noting in high rank and for a game charging more then the standard for games it’s kind of ridiculous in my opinion. I’d like to see how you feel progressing, because chapter three is where the game has become a slog and I’m sick of fighting the same monster over and over again. but I am also playing MP with my partner and playing a weaker weapon and your able to cheese things with the hand canon. Anyway, sorry for the long ass comment, I was talking to my partner about this yesterday but to me the game DOES feel unfinished and I’m kind of sad I got into it so early because it means I have to wait for possible good content updates to flesh it out. After I finish the story I’m not sure if I’ll even bother to pick it up again which is…not good considering again, it’s 70$ and monster hunting games are supposed to make you feel good about fighting monsters and as of end-ish of chapter three it’s really starting to not .
This game is pretty good imo. The Bow really impressed me. And so did the claw weapon. My biggest issue is the inability to have all the karakuri tools at once. Having to choose which ones I need sucks
This game looks really sick, and id love to play it.. But after Anthem, I refuse to buy another EA game. The fact people are having performance issues and this game already has a mixed review only confirms my own suspicions about it.. Hopefully they don't give up and drop the title, and actually fix it.
Yeah, I absolutely agree the game is well worth it. I've gone out of my way to play every monsters hunter "clones" to the point of being a Dauntless alpha backer, and not a single one of them come close to being as great as wild hearts is. And when it comes to maps, I don't think any monster hunter games come close to as great as those in wild hearts. Of course, there's many factors to consider each games doing some things better than others at times but wild hearts shouldn't be dismissed. (Also this game's Katana scratches an itch 5th gen long sword left me with)
One major issue with Wild Hearts (as someone who's finished the game and does end game content) is that the build diversity is abysmal. If you play any weapon, you will have anywhere from 1 to 2 meta options that will blow any other "build" for that weapon out of the water. Even worse is that there's a very clear weapon tier list where some weapons just make the game way easier than others. I'm looking at you Blue Oni Maul- 99.9% of all maul players use it and there's no reason to use any other- and the maul isn't the only weapon with that "best weapon choice" issue. It really makes you feel uninterested when you post your finished build and 10 sweaty meta lords reply to it on the discord about how its not optimal.
this would be the best game for me without those bugs and performance issues. hope they fix it soon. and i hate that blank loading screen while waiting.
It's crazy and somehow unexpected how Karakuri turns this game into a mix of 2 of my favorite games of all time, Monster Hunter and Death Strading. There are only two games that I remember that you can build stuff like a zip line network to optimize traversal. DS and WH. As for weapon movesets.. I mean people either forget or haven't played MH before World but it took a bit more than 10 years of expertise for MH to add depth to their weapons. Until 4 Ultimate the weapons had actually less depth than Wild Hearts. Which to me is not a problem, since the more moves they add the more MH turns into Devil May Cry. I'm seeing a lot of "standard neutral takes" like "yea it's a good foundation/base for a new franchise", but honestly? It's already a very good hunting game. They learned from MH and executed very well (except for performance) to the point of leap frogging every other hunting game not called MH in the market... and I played A LOT of them. God Eater, Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice, Dauntless, Toukiden (same devs as WH), Phantasy Star Portable 1 and 2 and probably a few more I'm forgetting. Soul Sacrifice is the best of the bunch but it distanciates itself from MH too much to overtake WH.
Personally I think the movesets are actually still more advanced than MH. I'm still actually just discovering new combos with the katana in WH and that is after 50+ hints with it.
On ps5 I haven't had much in the way of technical issues, I've really only had one situation where it popped up and it's possible that it was connected to my internet connection more than anything because I was in a friend's world Overall I've had a blast with the game and hope that the rest of the hunting community embraces it so we get more quality games in the genre.
My main issue with the game is the camera distance and collision with environment ( specially when knocked down or grabbing the monster ) beside that it's a really nice surprise and enjoyment.
I will say, on PS5, about 85-90% of my playtime has been without issue. The other 10% is some slight slowdown and occasionally stuttering, but never in combat, always while exploring. So far, a pretty solid game, I'd give it an 8 if they patched the problems, but they just manage to knock it down a point to a 7.
I think this game is a blast. It is also fine that there is a lot to explore and find out , people skipping dialog and tutorials will miss out and this is very much O.K. Chiil out and read what they have spend time into making , like the food system and auto gathering shrines. Placing a windvent next to a tent and scanning tower in the center of a map will let you fly almost everywhere with the chopper karakuri.
It's such a shame they stopped support for this game, it is really rough in places but the core of the game is very solid and fun. After I'm done with the return to World I might give this another playthrough.
I have the PS5 version and am in chapter 3. I have had no noticeable performance issues on PS5. I have seen 1 bug: I think I broke a fumebeak's AI with a big burst attack from the bow as it spent the rest of the mission just repeatedly flinching and no longer attacking. Otherwise it's been great. Easily exceeded my expectations. Not sure about longevity as I don't think there will be multiple builds for each weapon that changes gameplay style. Seems like a good start to a franchise.
I am interested in it but I'll probably wait for a sale after performance has been stabilized and reviews improve. There are other games to play Octopath Traveler 2 just came out and I've been waiting for that for some time. Tears of the Kingdom releases in May, Baldur's Gate 3 in August, and we're finally getting a (non-mobile) sequel to Fantasy Life sometime this year, an all-time favorite game for me.
I had so much fun playing with my friends, some of the kemono are tough and that scratched the "mh became a tad too broken" for me, but yeah i do agree with some ppl about the kemono design, while not bad at all i feel like they are a bit blend in some cases and im not fan of them using color swap THAT early. But to be frank it's still an amazing game and like maybe the start of something that could be an equal to MH if given proper care.
I won't be playing this game for quite a while, maybe a year or more because my gaming backlog is large at the moment. One thing I hope is that this game is successful enough to stay and push monster hunter for the better. Imagine if this genre had two juggernauts for once. That would be so god damn amazing.
I love the game I think my main issue is not being able to leave immediately after completing a hunt. Also, the hunt modifiers are not clear on what they do. Like I have to figure it out on my own.
I’ve enjoyed this game. I’ve been an mh fan since 3rd grade. Rise kinda took the spirit of enjoying the series out of me then this game dropped. I’ve never enjoyed a game so much since world
Story may not be revolutionary but a blatant disregard that some might care or want to break up constant hunting by giving a shit to just lay out every thing is unnecessary. Even with Rises simple story of someone mentioned the final bosses or showed it’s fight I’d be upset. Leaving it vague is what I did for others new to these games their reactions to enemies that they didn’t have a hunt towards us always fun to hear.
the umbrella deals super good damage though when i compared it to other melee weapons its just that the hand cannon is the outlier like every freaking monster hunter ranged weapons are the outliers is that some sort of hidden rule?
I loved the locale, monsters, and how the game looked overall as well, but the technical issues are what killed it for me and I refunded the game in the end The only way I could play this game was on my steam deck, I couldn't even get it to launch on windows(Ryzen 9 3900X + 5700XT) even after they pushed out the launch fix patch. If it did allow me to play on windows, I would have waited for a patch while streaming it to my steam deck just like I did with Dead Space when it first launched, but it also got to the point where it kept crashing while trying to launch the game on my steam deck and because they tied launching the game to the ea play app, it eventually locked me out from playing it(Your account has accessed this game too many times error). I had played about 4 hours according to steam around the time that I dropped a review on their steam page + refunded it I'm just going to stick to MH in the future
Lmao the ea client really locks you out like that? I've had to troubleshoot games and opening and closing them multiple times on steam thank God they don't do that
@@goodtimesgivecancer1 I've had to troubleshoot a bunch on many games, especially on the steam deck. Change proton/GE version? Relaunch Set a new launch setting? Relaunch Definitely glad steam doesn't lock me out, but still frustrating when I first saw that message after crashing so much. I guess that's EA for you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I know I sounds dumb, but I love this game as a off season Monster Hunter game. I’m just salivating thinking how I’m going to ping pong between these two series

Great review, once i get a ps5 i will buy this game.
Question, have you consider doing a review of the god eater or toukiden series?
@@nahuelgp6002at some point yeah
funny feature about the Bath House. your armour can actually get dirty after going through an X amount of hunts. when you go to the bath house it will make your armour all shiny again
Yeah I noticed that! Very cool
Wow, I was wondering how to get that dirt off of my hunter!
THANK YOU
Holy shit, I did not know this. Thanks for the info. My character has been dirty for a long time
I just changed armor and re-equip it again to clean it up.
Update: They are never fixing the performance issues. EA abandoned it
Dude, honest to God, I would wait another year or perhaps even more if it meant a video game had a stable release.
Not worth the price for me right now. It’s more expensive than other games for no good reason.
Almost every game is 70 rn
Other than currently most next gen exclusive games are 70 dollars...
Will be at least 40% off in less than two months..
@@EJWZ0 i hope so
its a ps5 only game
I’ve been playing on the Series S and it’s a bit choppy at times and the environment textures are a bit blocky but the combat is awesome and the karakuri system is really fun. Once it gets the bugs patched I think more people will gravitate. I’m hoping we get to see more of the title wether through a sequel or expansions I’ve been having a lot of fun with it.
It’s interesting to watch this now that we know so much about Wilds and see what Capcom decided to bring over to MonHun
I’m a first fleet veteran, I held back on picking this up but wish I hadn’t. It’s got small faults you soon forget once you get into it. The art style doesn’t come across very well from trailers and from UA-cam but it’s breathtaking. Nice thorough review!
29:40
They fixed it in the latest patch. You can now destroy all types of karakuri from the map screen. The dev team really are listening to feedback and it seems like they're still not done with new monster updates. The game today really feels like the one they wanted to release, and the fact they keep adding to it is awesome. Hope they do a full on expansion.
This is definitely a toukiden successor since the main box monster always show up in toukiden games on the tutorial part of the game!
Excelent review! Well structured, easily comprehended and full of fact info. Thank you!
Use Bow for easy mode. But yeah I agree, it's quite tough.
And the slide dodge goes really far
Also, in lieu of the of the MH Superman dive get used to placing a spring down instead of panic rolling and using that spring to dodge away, it has crazy s, and gets more as you upgrade it.

Wow I actually had no idea the bathhouse gave you a health increase, that explains alot
@@Ocean5ix I love the "tell people how to spend their money" mentality
@@Ocean5ix good point, but i rarely even buy $60 games. I normally wait for the price to be around $45 - $50 MAX since money isn't really something I can just throw around lol.
@@Ocean5ix it released unfinished for most people with normal hardware. Either you have a beefy PC, or you struggle in the second half of the game. Fix obvious issues on representative hardware first, then release and charge for it. But shipping unfinished stuff simply doesn't deserve full price, no matter if 60 or 100 bucks.
I will definitely buy this game, but I also wait for a really good sale for two reasons:
I get the game for less than half the price, and i get it properly tested.
Pro consumer mentality. Nothing more, nothing less.
The price point is frustrating because of the state it was launched in, for sure.
This game had *a lot* of potential, but of course EA being EA they decided to shut it down.
I didnt really find late game to be unfair aside from the emberplume. That thing did not need homing explosives.
Wait till this man figures out the actual combo of the bow, he will never return to hand canon lol.
Great review. Thoroughly impressed with your parry skills at the beginning!!
Considering that I’m playing this game off of game pass and it’s been out for almost a year this games a blast
As aMH: World veteran, this game looked so interesting to me that it made me start MH:Rise on game pass xD I'll come back to it in like 6 months when it will be fixed, patched, updated amd maybe even included in said pass!
I think the issue people have with the designs of the kemonos is that they're not that memorable, if you look at them, they're not significantly different from a rather generic "big animal with stuff around it"
Even if they're meant to be "just animals with magical stuff" and they don't necessarily look bad, they could have a more unique and memorable design as I would not run out to buy merchandise from these monsters the way I do with the MH ones
Sounds like you have a weak ps5
Works perfectly on my ps5
I highly recommend Monster Hunter Rise. It is far superior to Wild Hearts.
Been able to play the game just fine on console since launch, barely any issues
I'm personally loving the game so far, I've had a couple technical issues and a crash or two but I'm having more fun than I've had in a long time.
Its super fun!
Awesome review!
Thanks!
@@demonintellect9834 i can see the older games but what about stuff like rise which is faster paced combat?
@@pauliedee1951 it still is slow compared to WH. That and MH has much more simplified combat and some weapons only have 1 viable combo.
I want some of the stuff your smoking.
@@demonintellect9834 Bruhhhh... WH combat is so easy and combo spammable that they had to overtune the tracking of the monsters to an absurd degree to offset it. MH on the other hand, getting to know how to optimally use weapons itself is a boss...
Thanks for the review--definitely a great, succinct overview.
Ngl, when I subscribed, I really didn't check upload history, I didn't realize this was a monster hunter channel with the vids I'd watch from him xD
I mostly focus on the retros now lol
Finally a non-sponsored Video to safe the day!
Monster hunter not just popularize the gamestyle but they also perfecting and defining it
The hunters arm was explained in the tutorial? I don't even remember get taught about it
Right?
Thanks! Now I can do the Hunter Arm job!
My biggest issue with this game is the camera angle sucks and the monsters moves arent telegraphed well enough for you to know where something hits or starts
I disagree about telegraphs and you will notice them much better if you use the wagasa. Camera sucks tho

@@demonintellect9834 70 dollars go crazy though

I will be waiting for Wild Hearts 2.
You unlock transmog when you beat chapter 4. You do have to grind to get the mats for it though.
@KingKami The slowdown is definitely case by case. It usually happens when either their is lag or if it is a very particle effect intensive fight.
Thx for this review
No problem!

There's only 3 problems that WILD HEARTS needs to fix:
1. Fix performance issues
2. Improve the Particle effects.
3. Better End game.
And more "unique monsters "
I thought this would threaten MH.... But nah.. Not even close. MH is several leagues above in terms of experience, polish and fun.
At least that's how I see it
That being said, I agree with almost every other one of your points.

(Oh also the camera is god awful and the hitboxes for some of the monsters, mainly Tusk, is bad)
There’s also some QoL changes I have no idea why they never included to begin with, mainly a wishlist for the armor and weapons.
I just noticed the talisman icon are the same icons from nioh's talisman spells
Oh right. Hunter's Arm. Thanks for reminding me LOL
On ps5 I haven't had much in the way of technical issues, I've really only had one situation where it popped up and it's possible that it was connected to my internet connection more than anything because I was in a friend's world
Overall I've had a blast with the game and hope that the rest of the hunting community embraces it so we get more quality games in the genre.
Claw blade is the absolute funnest weapon. It is so hard to play anything else
best deep dive ive watched. im a big fan of toukiden, so i do want to get this game, but will be waiting for it to be patched and go on sale
My main issue with the game is the camera distance and collision with environment ( specially when knocked down or grabbing the monster ) beside that it's a really nice surprise and enjoyment.
I should've mentioned the camera distance, it's actually the most frustrating aspect of the game
The camera pans out when you enter a fight. Not sure if people notice that.
Yep. I'm gonna play the 10 hour trial. If I like the game, I'll wait for some patches and a sale.
Honestly, I want my money back.
I'm ready to jump on, just need it to be better optimised first
I think this game is a blast.
The dialogue is boring.
@@NotCharAznable Did you skip it?
It's such a shame they stopped support for this game, it is really rough in places but the core of the game is very solid and fun. After I'm done with the return to World I might give this another playthrough.
I would have kept playing if the performance wasn't so awful
I have the PS5 version and am in chapter 3.
I have had no noticeable performance issues on PS5. I have seen 1 bug: I think I broke a fumebeak's AI with a big burst attack from the bow as it spent the rest of the mission just repeatedly flinching and no longer attacking.
Otherwise it's been great. Easily exceeded my expectations. Not sure about longevity as I don't think there will be multiple builds for each weapon that changes gameplay style.
Seems like a good start to a franchise.
Its expensive but dlc will be free, so on long term i think is good. Counter to a monster/ boss feels so good.
Hope they release a performance patch
Playing it on the ps5, dont have a single problem with it so far.
I love the game I think my main issue is not being able to leave immediately after completing a hunt. Also, the hunt modifiers are not clear on what they do. Like I have to figure it out on my own.
On point review. Game is fun. Loving it.
Leaving it vague is what I did for others new to these games their reactions to enemies that they didn’t have a hunt towards us always fun to hear.
the umbrella deals super good damage though when i compared it to other melee weapons
its just that the hand cannon is the outlier like every freaking monster hunter ranged weapons are the outliers is that some sort of hidden rule?
I loved the locale, monsters, and how the game looked overall as well, but the technical issues are what killed it for me and I refunded the game in the end
The only way I could play this game was on my steam deck, I couldn't even get it to launch on windows(Ryzen 9 3900X + 5700XT) even after they pushed out the launch fix patch.
I had played about 4 hours according to steam around the time that I dropped a review on their steam page + refunded it
I'm just going to stick to MH in the future
Lmao the ea client really locks you out like that? I've had to troubleshoot games and opening and closing them multiple times on steam thank God they don't do that
@@goodtimesgivecancer1 I've had to troubleshoot a bunch on many games, especially on the steam deck.
Change proton/GE version? Relaunch
Set a new launch setting? Relaunch
Definitely glad steam doesn't lock me out, but still frustrating when I first saw that message after crashing so much.
I guess that's EA for you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
FINE I'll get it. But I am getting the PS5 version not the PC version :)
I know I sounds dumb, but I love this game as a off season Monster Hunter game. I’m just salivating thinking how I’m going to ping pong between these two series
