I've just made Ben's Lasagna for the second time, and I've got to say, it is really, REALLY good. I'm not able to buy tellegio where I am so I've taken the written recipe's suggestion of subbing in marscapone, and also added some cheddar to make up a bit for the milder taste. I'm in Canada, and over here (I think in the States too) it's quite common for cottage cheese to be a popular choice for home-made lasagnas. I think perhaps next time I will go half-and-half with marcapone and cottage, as the recipe is rich enough that it's actually fairly easy to under-season (made that mistake my first go-round). The meat sauces made here often have more of a 'marinara/pizza sauce' flavour to them as well, so for fun I might try that to bring a bit of that element in as well. The ragu Ben's recipe yields is really delicious and unctuous, and has a fantastic quality. It definitely has a 'European' feel to it that tastes a little restrained to a North American tongue, but has much more depth than you would generally encounter over here. Standout. Now that I've made it a couple times and feel fairly familiar with it, I'm excited to experiment with the flavour profile here and there and see if I can make something that really brings the best of both interpretations to the table :D Thanks so much for the fun video and excellent recipe! I have a close friend who is a very strict vegan, so once quarantine restrictions relax I will be having her and her husband over and definitely be giving the vegan version a try too. Love from Canada!
Oh Ben... Well, I'm in love! Lasagna is and has been my favourite dish since I was 2 or 3. It was always homemade (I was a lucky little boy I know), but this takes it a step further into heaven. Thank-you!

Now you know what to make that vegan friend you want to have come over your house that isn't a salad! Take note!" That's why I think Barry made sure to be like, "Most lasagne noodles are egg free, but please check first". If you're a vegan, you're always flipping the box around to read the ingredients. Your aunt Pam, who is a lovely lady, wouldn't think to check, but the gentle reminder is nice. Same that they don't put any Weird Vegan Ingredients. If you're vegan, and you see that recipe, you're gonna throw in some nutritional yeast, or maybe some miso, or tahini, or mustard, or some combination thereof. But your best friend's dad, who is making a good effort probably wouldn't. They made it accessible for a variety of audiences, and I think that's pretty great. :)

@@SortedFood I am Italian and I am not that offended by Jamie's deconstructed lasagna: it could improve a lot with just a few step, but it is still food. The vegan preparation instead is a crime against humanity: it's basically a lentils stew in which he have thrown some pasta sheets...
@@Beregorn88 Tbh I'm sure it tastes fine but it's no comparison to an actual ragu and besciamella, like no comparison at all. And I'm certain that cooking the lasagne sheets like that is worse for texture and taste than it being cooked in the sauce(s) in the oven.
@@SortedFood Jamie's might actually be nice if he had found a way to get that glorious cheesy crust on top. It's just not lasagne without the heavenly top.
It would have been better if he took the time to do the layers and gratin, it's not that much work/time. But I don't think it's "offensive." The only way that would be offensive It's if he tried to served it as a traditional lasagna in an Italian restaurant. Where I live we make eggplant lasagna and plantains lasagna, and I have eaten them in Italian homes. No one has died of shock, hahaha
I have to admit, I had never heard of using bechamel sauce in lasagne - we use ricotta in the US. I did a little quick research, and apparently bechamel is the authentic thing to use! Next time I make it, I'm definitely going to try it that way.
Definitely going to try the sausage and ricotta option although I will bake it in the oven...wish shortrib wasn't so expensive! But the three hours cooking time can be reduced to 45 minutes if you put it in an instant pot.
@@ingriddubbel8468 It does. A really good meat sauce takes 6-8 hours to cook, and than need to rest overnight. You can make a good ones in half a day, but it will not be the best.

My lasagna is somewhere between 2 - 3 hours but I make 2 at a time, if I am making the effort it makes more sense to me. I freeze the 2nd in portions and use them for lunches. I use premade sheets but make everything else from scratch. I also use lamb mince, tastes amazing and I use it for bolognaise too,
I love that you nearly always have a vegan version in these videos.
Barry moaning over the Pork one Ben made is literally the best thing I've heard and looked at all day because it's over food and as a Taurus born in may, I LOVE FOOOOOOOD!
Jamie's recipe may taste good, but I would never call it lasagna.
I love these videos! I really like that I can just combine the three recipes! Home-made lasagna from Ben, White sauce, and lentils from Barry and the meat from Jamie's
That herby ricotta has such as strange mint colour that it looks out of place.
Looks like mint choc chip
I just want to say how much I appreciate you guys limiting the ad card for the Kenmore stuff to just once in the video now instead of during all three dish intro sequences. I hate saying it was getting a bit annoying after a while, but you guys changed it just before it got too annoying, and I really do appreciate that. Thank you for your awesome videos.
I am not even italian and I am offended by that first "Lasagne".
So how do you Lasagne where you're from then?
Don't know how I missed this one but I'm going to try Ben's recipe this weekend, that looked incredible.
im surprised jamie can take on a cultural dish again after the incident. can high key see the flashbacks in his eyes
I have to admit, I had never heard of using bechamel sauce in lasagne - we use ricotta in the US. I did a little quick research, and apparently bechamel is the authentic thing to use! Next time I make it, I'm definitely going to try it that way.
Bechamel is traditional for northern Italian lasagna. In southern Italy they use sheep's milk ricotta.
@@danpodina853 Oh, cool! I never knew that! Thank you!!
Well I’m remembering to rewatch this the next time i wanna feel like Garfield
So happy to see you guys back in your own kitchen, these are the best vids
I'm italian but at the beginning i thought that "taleggio" was some kind of exotic cheese because i didn't recognize it but how you pronounce it lol
I replace the béchamel sauce with ricotta and shredded cheddar and shredded mozzarella on top. I also use half pork and half beef for the meat sauce.
Jamie: *Makes a lasagne*
Italians: *ANGRY ITALIAN HAND GESTURING*
I love who you say Cheers right before you go to eat your bites of each compared dish
"Layers of pasta with stuff in between" - Ebbers, 2019
Definitely going to try the sausage and ricotta option although I will bake it in the oven...wish shortrib wasn't so expensive! But the three hours cooking time can be reduced to 45 minutes if you put it in an instant pot.
Jamie have they just made you be the scapegoat for anything breaking tradition?
I love that you started to have vegan options! Sustainable! Would love to see more 🌱🥰
Everyone knows the best lasagna takes days to make
Unless your grandma already prepared the meat sauce 😁
It does not.
@@ingriddubbel8468 It does. A really good meat sauce takes 6-8 hours to cook, and than need to rest overnight. You can make a good ones in half a day, but it will not be the best.
Thank you. I was wondering who would say that
@@Beregorn88 what's the point though it just becomes pompous to make something that takes that long. Why bother? 2 days to make and 10 minutes to eat. There comes a point when it becomes pointless to take so long to make something. The one Ben made looked extremely good.
I miss these videos. I am writing down next weeks menu and taking the quicker ones for my weeknight menus and the "Chefy" "Traditional" ones for the weekend.
so basically there's only one way to make lasagna, got it!!
Ebbers classic for me the other two aren't bad especially the vegan lasagne but I was drooling over the classic thanks guys.
"Do we need the meat?" *Skips Barry's lasagna*
Guys, just came home after a day workin the line, completely cooked out and about to throw some beans on some toast. Watched this over my cuppa while my phone charged and now imma go make a beef/ butternut bechamel/ feta&goats cheese lasagne. Thank you, thank you, thank you! As much as I love the big showy travel vids, the stuff in the sorted kitchen fkn rocks!
