That out-of-nowhere "Is the dog a metaphor for cancer" question blindsided me harder than Death's appearance
If, like me, you saw the podcast BEFORE the film, the entire discussion where they’re talking about how he’s “literally Death” is a gift two times, bc the first time I thought it was just abundantly clear the antagonist was not cat cancer.
Then, for him to be LITERALLY DEATH and recalling Kelsey’s musing just had me rolling and frankly got me through how scary that reveal would be otherwise
@zerocraic3966 Ikr it's like, was she not paying attention to the 10 whole seconds he takes to say "I am LITERALLY Death"
@@Maxisamo1 That's not even the stupidest part. By her rationale the wolf is a metaphor for cat death (not unreasonable... if you completely fricken ignore the wolf directly dismissing that)... so why specifically cat cancer? Just because that's what her cat died of. 🤨 She's f**king retarded.
I was thinking, 'I've also seen that Hank Green video, Kelsey' lol. Such a good video though! He explains why he loved this movie so much. It made me need to watch it.
Can’t believe you guys didn’t mention the amazing job the person who voiced the wolf did. It’s Wagner Moura, brazilian actor who also played Pablo Escobar in Narcos
SIMMMMMM
I was soooo impressed by his voice (and surprised that he looks so nice and kind IRL)
Feliz que o Wagner Moura tá recebendo a atenção que ele merece, acompanhando o ele desde Sexo Frágil e ele usava trancinhas 😅
“You’re not lining up to the legend, gato”
To add to the discussion about the panic attack scene, I was so nervous that they’d make a joke about it and Puss rubbing Perrito’s stomach, like with him being all embarrassed and was so relieved they didn’t. Top tier film.
I feel so validated. Every mom in my office who got "dragged" to see this movie with their kids acted like it was mediocre, but it was so good.
Petition for them to just make the episodes longer and do it kinda like gmm's podcast
Yes!! I would looove for them to just record for as long as they can go off about these movies. Lol
Keith’s knocking at 24:04 during the discussion of how scary Death is was perfectly timed!
The panic attack scene made me sob when I first saw it. I dealt with extremely bad anxiety in high school and panic attacks were a frequent occurrence for me. Whenever they happened, my dog would come to me and do the exact same thing Perrito did to Puss. Such a beautiful scene that I never expected from a movie about a swashbuckling cat, I adore this movie.
Came back here from the guys most recent video 🤣
I watched it with my nephews & everyone was on the edge of their seats. Literally 5 year olds & 20 year olds. Such a beautiful movie✨
I am absolutely delighted that you are all just as excited about this movie as I was after watching. I genuinely think it’s a basically perfect film, and I also feel like no one takes me seriously when I say that. I was so blown away by the animation, story, characters, and themes. My favorite thing was how they let the serious moments have space to breathe and didn’t undercut everything with a quippy joke.
Lobo’s sudden appearances throughout the movie were so genuinely *tense*. Like the scene where he has the coins in his eyes and points at Puss gave me GOOSEBUMPS. Thank fucking GOD it wasn’t immediately undercut by a “mm he’s right behind me, isn’t he 🤪” moment.
I just wanted to make a quick correction for 40:20, his littermates weren’t the ones who put him in the sock, it was his owners. That’s why he said after “I never found them or my littermates.” His owners tired to kill him because he was the runt and he never found his way back to his siblings 😢
YES I was looking for this comment!! It actually makes it so much more intense when you realize it’s just animal abuse 😭
the fact that we’ve made it 44:40 in and they haven’t even brought up kitty softpaws and only mentioned goldi and the bears once💀💀💀
right, how'd they forget about one of the main characters like that 😭
I need a super cut of Garrick freaking out and saying “LETS FUCKING GO”
While watching, did anyone notice the Disney-specific magical items Horner packed or didn’t pack in his bag? The bag itself is technically a Disney item too (Mary Poppins’ bag aka I think he calls it a magical nanny bag??). Seems like they associated everything Disney-related to a villain 👀😅
The Shrek films have done that since the first movie (Farquad’s design looking like then Disney CEO Michael Eisner).
The hard cut to Kelsey eating the popcorn 😂
I took my kids to see it in the theater, and then we rented it for my husband to watch it with us again. IT IS BOSS.
Garrick STUDIED this movie. Love it. It was a great movie, cinematically and storyline.
with petito's view on the dark forest, it was a lovely safe place but something that i think was looked over was that even as lovely as it all was it also was incredibly dangerous just like the real world.
Yeah, considering his map has some... interesting references in it. The 'Pocket Full of Poses' from a nursery rhyme about a plague, a river like the one he was almost drowned in, and a field with trees that encourages a "quick and easy solution" to one's problems, his path seems nice on the outside but hints that the dog might be repressing **hard**. Or I might be looking waaaaay too far into it, which is possible.
@@oliverwilhelm6171 I dont think you're looking too far into it at all. That's a great observation
FINALLY A GROUP OF PEOPLE AS EXCITED ABOUT THIS MOVIE AS I AM
I'm gonna say it--- the best podcast out of all 3 podcast options from the Try Guys Channel. THE PASSION YALL HAVE FOR FILM IS PALPABLE! I want more friends like you 3. Adopt me please.
The breath of relief I sighed at the Croc's update😂
5:20 GARRICK IS CORRECT, I AGREE WITH HIM. Puss In Boots was solid, which is better than i expected it to be. Also Humpty Dumpty was drawn so mean looking for nothing
This podcast has genuinely helped me rekindle my love for movies. I was one of those people who were unsure about this movie, but now I’m excited to check it out ❤️
The way I almost started crying when Zach sang the Shrek theme, these movies are something else
Dang it, I wish Jack had more talk time in this podcast because I love hearing his excitement about this movie.
By the way guys the big bad wolf was played by a Brazilian actor, Wagner Moura. He played Pablo Escobar in Narcos and Captain Nascimento in Elite Squad. He does speak Spanish though, and I am not certain if his role in this film was to portray a "hispanic" roll or not
Kelsey is right too. It’s also a baked good. This podcast episode makes me want to go watch Puss in Boots.
I understand jacksfilms riding for a shrek 5 as a "shit post" because in my first year of university someone said the bee movie was trash and i defended it with my life to the point where thr people i know from that class still know me as the bee movie avenger years later. Do i really care that much? Not necessarily... not really at all. But i must continue The Bit.
I saw this movie yesterday, the whole time I was in awe about how Shrek lead to this beautiful example of animation. It was such a fun movie that gives me hope for the future.
I went with my GF (we are in our late 20's and early 30's) to see this movie in the theater as a date last weekend because we both love Shrek so much (and animation in general), and I'm not gonna lie, we where so into the movie that we didn't even make out event thought we where almost alone in there... It was so worth it as this is a masterpiece
Sitting in the theater to watch this movie only to be slapped in the face with Antonio banderz’s deep ass raspy voice saying a nursery rhyme made me question if I was a furry
Not to be rude or anything, but his name’s actually spelled Banderas.
The way theyre roasting dreamworks as if dreamworks hasnt been making these masterpieces for a while, i mean just to mention recent ones look at the entirety of the kong fu panda and httyd franchises, the bad guys and abominable. People really dont appreciate how while Disney mass produces and launches a mid movie every month dreamworks puts quality over quantity with a banger every year.
Went with my partner to see a 5:30pm showing two weeks ago and the theater was 3/4 20 something’s and 1/4 was 10 year olds with their moms. 20 something’s are holding it down for this movie!
FINALLY i needed Jack’s input on Puss in Boots 2
A Yule Log is a cake 😂
It was so good! It was definitely one of those were I really liked and appreciated the villain too. "Death" was amazing. A little bit like Pitch black in "Rise of the Guardians" Except scarier and more honest.
"I seriously though the bear was James Corden"
Omg I'm so glad I wasn't alone in this
I love longer Eps like this when they just are so inlove with a movie ! I also love the silly dumb movies they cover but I know when Garrick is this excited over a movie I have to watch it!!!
Coming to Garricks defense og Puss in Boots is solid!
y'all talk about how hot Puss is but not Death? 😭
The excitement in this episode is incredible. Any time Garrick rides for a movie this hard, I immediately know I need to see the movie.
😂😂😂😂 Garrick trying to sell this movie to everyone he knows is me with Everything, Everywhere All At Once
And I just can't imagine doing that for this movie 😂
That's not just what a yule log is. It's a cake, it's a pagan tradition of an actual log burning and the Christmas fire video.
Thank you for not only promoting this movie but getting Kelsey to watch it! Went with a group of friends to the movies where I was the only one excited to watch but everyone came out loving it 😭
listened to the first 15 minutes of this, paused it, saw the movie, came back for the rest of the pod.
WORTH IT! the pod has spoilers but sooo worth just to be able to gush with them about the film!
It is so worth the hype. 100% masterpiece.
Watched it in Spanish and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Harvey Guillen dubbed for Perrito in Spanish too!! Obviously Antonio Banderas has always played el Gato and was amazing as usual. Kinda wish Salma Hayek had done Kitty but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. I am very excited to see it in English too, ‘cause I don’t wanna miss out on Olivia Coleman and Florence Pugh!
Oh calm down Mr. Boo cocky cake XD
I feel like y’all should do Meet the Robinsons
Garrick reminded me I need to keep demanding that y’all watch arcane
I definitely cried more than once
Actually teared up just listening to this recap of the panic attack scene
same, i kept a count on my phone as i watched and i got to 4, but one was actually two times i only tested up so i counted 0.5
Straight up. Into the Spiderverse is such a revolutionary film. It has changed the animation of movies and its beautiful
Listening to an episode of Trevor Talks Too Much. Y'all gotta have Mythical Chef Josh on to talk about 13 going on 30 or Troy.
This movie is now nominated for an Oscar!!
i’m so glad you guys talked about how amazing this movie is because i dragged my girlfriend to see it with me in theatres and it is one of the best movies i’ve ever seen and will ever see
I took my 4 year old to see it in theatres. There were definitely messages he didn’t get but he still really enjoyed it. My mom came with us and we both loved it. One movie I’m more than happy to rewatch when my kiddo asks to lol
Yule logs are real old (paganism) so it can reference a ton of things, including an actual log, or as Kelsey said, a cake. I think the cake is a British thing but don’t quote me on that
i recently started listening to GP and this is quickly becoming my fav podcast
It's such a good movie! When I went in theaters I thought it would be empty bc it's been out for a while but it was a full house! The animation is amazing the story is spectacular 🙌 even the other characters were great and I fully expected to not care for them
The best description I heard about this movie this that it is "the Logan of Shrek movies"
Not to be That Person, but the reason most people think Strange World wasn’t marketed as heavily was because of it’s (actually good this time) queer rep. Say what you will about the look of it or the story or what have you, but I thought it was a fine little movie that deserved better and will no doubt be a cult favorite in a few year’s time. It’d be a fun one to cover one day I think!
i never heard of that movie until my friend told me and tbh the world looks cool
YULE LOG IS A TRADITIONAL HOLIDAY CAKE... stop making Kelsey sound dumb, benefit of the doubt guys..
Literally!! And zach doesn't even celebrate xmas so it's weird that he was so confident in telling her it wasn't a cake and then she doubted herself. Ugh.
Puss in boots 1 is underrated. It's a really good movie with amazing humour and it has funny moments everywhere. Also kitty and puss have great moments together. (I also love the music and dances)
I watched this movie with an excursion group and I had one of the littler boys come and cuddle up in my lap when the wolf came on screen the third time, so yeah this was a pretty horrifying villain for kids, can confirm
I just want to say, I'm sorry for the folks the don't speak spanish becasue this movie in spanish is freaking FIRE!! I loved it!!! Antonio Bandera's is also the voice in Spanish and it is amazing
Ok yeah imma watch this tomorrow, also I love how excited they all are about this film, they cant contain themselves and Its a freaking vibe
this was so fun to watch, y’all are amazing 😊
Took my daughter to this on Xmas and definitely did not expect to be blown away 😂😻
"Puss is way more fuckable now!"
I didn't expect to hear such a sentence but it's a welcomed surprise 😂😂😂 I agree the new artstyle is definitely a positive change but imo the "fuckability" was always there mostly thanks to the amazing performance of Antonio Banderas ❤ This man is 60+ and still goes all out to make Puss sound as awesome as possible. I'm absolutely in love with the funny/adorable Spanish accent and with the singing.
So I just made plans to see this in theatres with my boyfriend on our 2222 day anniversary listening to you guys
Just listened to this podcast today and am currently at a nearly empty movie theater going to see it.
After so many hours of deep diving this movie I can safely say... I would not call this a kids movie.
It's a family movie. And a great example of what PG used to mean. Parental Guidance.
I couldn’t agree more.
A yule log is also a cake :) we make one every year around Christmas!
Do "The Bad Guys" next! :D
It’s made by Dreamworks too and it has a similar animation style :)
is there something special lined up for the upcoming 100th episode? also can we do a knives out at some point?
Just texted my friend asking what showtimes work best bc now I have to go see this while it's still in theaters
PS yes Kelsey! Justice for Babylon. One of the rare times a 3hr movie didn't feel too long because the pacing was so balanced (until the end, I agree with you). A feast for the eyes. Loves it.
This episode made me watch this movie and I'm very thankful.
One thing I found out about Once Upon a Time in the West: the German title is "Play Me a Song of Death" and it's because the line from that scene, "Keep your loving brother happy", was replaced with the title.
Yh paused this at about 20 mins in, watched puss in boots 2, and now im finishing the video. This is my method with this podcast, I've now accepted it.
Just watched it last night... twice. I get it now. Back here to listen again!
I honestly had the same thoughts about peritto! As I was watching this movie with my friend on Discord I kept complaining about him until that seeing and he instantly became one of my favorite characters
them forgetting what a sickle is is so funny
You know they're passionate about this when they keep almost competing with each other to talk about it xD
Im working right now, but on my life I will watch this episode by tonight ❣️❣️
I'm back after watching it and Garrick is not wrong. Why was this the most beautiful movie? Also it's the plot I wanted from the first movie! I loved the art style so much. Wow. I need to rewatch it
Started just listening to the podcast on Spotify but once the Crocs update came, I *had* to switch to UA-cam.
ZACH FINALLY GOT HIS CROCS HELL YEAH
i literally just watched this podcast watched the movie and im now im watching this again because the movie was perfect
You guys would love everything everywhere all at once
Zach’s description of how he played Breath of the Wild was the same as me! I love video games, but open world games give me so much anxiety because I feel I have to explore everything!
I have seen Once Upon A Time in the West by Sergio Leone Zach, the harmonica scene is so so scary/sad! Loved the episode! Will go watch Puss in Boots now Garrick, no worries haha
this is my comfort video
same. it’s so rare for everyone to be SO on board with a movie and it brings me so much joy
My baby sister went to seen this movie with a friend and she came to our place telling us it was GREAT. I was really sceptical, but we decided to watch it with my partner... And she was right ! This movie is awesome !
Now do the bad guys and the sing/sing 2 movies
The movie was incredible. So excited for the future movies
gasp I can’t believe they said the first Puss in Boots movie was bad!!! It’s an underrated B movie with charm! And Shrek Forever After was also surprisingly good cause the third really missed it! In this essay I will
Just bought tickets to see this in theaters because of this podcast.
This episode has convinced me to actually watch this movie!
I haven't watched the movie yet, but I definitely want to! Hearing them just describe the panic attack scene makes me overcome with emotions. Golly
ngl at the beginning it sounded like zack said welcome to kelsey’s pleasure and not guilty pleasure i was about to be like umm i’m mean i’ll still watch but that’s different lol
