I think the reason some people in the comments aren't understanding why she is a closet Otaku is the fact that they don't know Otakus are frowned upon in traditional Japanese culture.
Syphist Prime It really annoys me when I read the youtube comments, everyone is a cringy weeb. "I don't care what people think, I scream kawaii and butcher the Japanese language and culture!!"
Shinobu Oshino Yea, it's almost like words might mean different things in different cultures and co-opting and redefining foreign terms is not a uniquely American tradition. Oh, uh, I mean, BURN THE WEEEEEEEEBS
Im glad people are somewhat more accepting to other people liking stuff like anime and all that without shaming them for something they enjoy nowadays :D
+Julius Alvin Librando I have a friend who knows exactly what weaboo means-but he still goes around calling people that like anime weaboos. Except me for some reason-it's weird because I like more than just anime-manga, vocaloid, J-Pop, art supplies, etc.
my friend told me to watch less anime and get more of a social life. but how can I gain a life away from anime when anime is my life? people just don't get it, we aren't all just perverted 40 year old men, we're otaku and anime, manga, and games make us happy so we should be able to enjoy them without being judged by people who think we're better than us. anime isn't just a bunch of conventions or characters it's a way of life, at least it is for me.
I've finally realized the building referred to as Nishikan is the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, commonly known as Tokyo Big Sight, the site of Comiket.

After years of knowing about this song, it finally dawned on me - "EVERYONE HERE IS A FREAKING OTAKU." Oh the hypocrisy! 🤣 Everyone's weird so do what you love~
Ya... if Societal expectations weren't so harsh, Noone would feel the need to hide their interests and who they are.... which in the end, what everyone else thinks about it doesn't really matter as long as you're having fun
My friends when i talk about anime/vocaloid: "Hmm whats that" "Isnt anime animated porn.." "YOU watch animated porn?" Me when i try to explain: "Its-- Nothing.." "N-NOT AT ALL!" *Heart breaks* "I- i told you anime isnt animated porn.."
Am I the only one who's never had this problem? Where I am, it's perfectly acceptable to enjoy anime and manga(though I spend far more time reading light novels than the aforementioned media). Seriously, my school basically has a cult of Naruto fans(They wear the headband, do the run, some of them even have the Akatsuki robes. I seriously think they're a cult, but who am I to judge?), and nobody cares. The majority of my school is into some form of Japanese media, yet we all also enjoy some form of other media and most of us play some sport(baseball for me, most others play football or basketball). Is that really a rarity?
My high school is filled with stereotypical Starbuck's girls and jocks... quite a few people think anime and manga is a joke. In my art class the tables beside me always make fun of anime, and those who enjoy it. I have anime pins and locker magnets... must people don't care, but I have been made fun of. It's really stupid and just petty.
Gray Tiamat187 You're pretty lucky to have that kind of school. My school pretends they like anime just to be "cool" then the next day, they'll throw it in the trash can and disrespect my obsession or love for them. One time I played a vocaloid song in school, they all said it sucks and it's the worst they've ever heard, typical Justin Bieber fans.
most of my friends are normies (REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE) but i converted them. slowly, almost subconsciously i introduced more and more weebshit. they are now full blown otakus. try it! get them to play osu!, show them vocaloid that isn't trash and so on
first: that was a representation of Japan. second: i am pretty sure that you don't know what otaku means in japan XD i mean, i don't have a problem with people misusing this term anymore, because we westerns misused SO MUCH that we basically gave it a new meaning. Still, officially, liking anime and manga does NOT equal otaku. But, at this point, i am pretty sure you already know what the term means anyway. that is why, lol.

People telling each other how the Japanese(A.K.A anime/manga/toys/music companies based in Asia) will react to certain words, please, they don't care, you buy their shit and fill their pockets with cash, you are a-OK. Why should they care? You fans have made them rich; be as ignorant and as silly as you want.
edit: (I'm not even gonna go into the fact that having special interests that you prioritize to the extent most otakus do and being bad at socializing are possibly due to neurological disorders such as ASD or ADHD and the fact that others are constantly on these people's asses is most likely unintentional ableism because that's a WHOLE other problem that I don't wanna get into right now.) The way otaku is still used as a derogatory term for all the geeks out there is sad to hear. Many in Japan are berated for not fitting in and expressing themselves the way they want to, or simply just being bad with people. It's not as bad as it is in the west as it is overseas, but will still see people every once in a while call you a freak or weird. I'm not sure if there was really a point to this comment, but I guess don't be afraid to be yourself! I'm very certain that you'll be able to find a community who love and support you, whether it be in the comfort of your own, home, conventions, or just people online. There are many places where you are welcome. For now, this is a good place to start. Welcome (back?) to the classic VOCALOID era, my friend!
Devan Skrobarcek Otaku doesn't mean you stay at home all day with no social life, it just means you like anime. I call myself an otaku, as do many of my friends, and even my girlfriend agrees to calling herself an otaku. It's not a bad thing, just something that is a little different from the rest. A hikikomori is someone with no social life and stays at home all day. Hope I helped. :)
Oskar Kovac I know. I was just giving a general description. It can just mean you like a certain thing. In most cases it is anime, however it could be anime, cars, sports, books, math, it doesn't really matter.
rocky554 Still not what it means. "a young person who is obsessed with computers or particular aspects of popular culture to the detriment of their social skills." It means you are a nerd. You are such a nerd, that you lack social abilities. You are an outcast.
While everybody is arguing about the definition of otaku and anime and what not, I'm over here like "Yet there are no EXACT comments about the freaking song. ."
I'm not a closet otaku..... Well we have 6 otakus in our room so why should I hide? Well absolutely just 5 the other 1 is just pretending that she like anime stuffs and other japanese culture - w -
I love Inu-yasha!!!! I even used to copy how he ran. I even made my own Tetsaiga (if I spelled that right) and brought to places. awwwwwwww........... so lucky you have his ears :3
you'd love my group of friends. we talk about fanfiction and anime like it's like important news. we have discussed more fanfiction and anime in one day then I've ever talked about politics in my entire life, and I'm almost old enough to vote
When you're an otaku who's so far in the closet that you're reading manga in Narnia
Onikirii Matsui thank ya kindly stranger
I wish my closet actually lead to Narnia that would be so f**kin awslme
I think I'd be pissed off because Narnia probably doesn't have wifi and then I can't read manga on my tablet.

I'm not sure whether I should laugh, be confused, or what, but... Interesting.
Just because I speak Japanese after years of studying, people think I'm a weeaboo.
Not depressing, just annoying
I understand that. I want to learn Japanese and for some reason that makes me a weeaboo, but if someone wanted to learn French, that's perfectly fine.

My coming out video right here.
When I decided to become an Otaku, I said, SCREW IT! LEEEEEEEEEROY JENKINS!!!!!!!! And ran right in XD
People telling each other how the Japanese(A.K.A anime/manga/toys/music companies based in Asia) will react to certain words, please, they don't care, you buy their shit and fill their pockets with cash, you are a-OK. Why should they care? You fans have made them rich; be as ignorant and as silly as you want.
lol
Nobody:
Literally nobody :
Me to my class : singing this song while standing on a table
No one understands us otakus :( lol
Omg this was 5 years ago holy shit
Hello baby me's
edit: (I'm not even gonna go into the fact that having special interests that you prioritize to the extent most otakus do and being bad at socializing are possibly due to neurological disorders such as ASD or ADHD and the fact that others are constantly on these people's asses is most likely unintentional ableism because that's a WHOLE other problem that I don't wanna get into right now.)
The way otaku is still used as a derogatory term for all the geeks out there is sad to hear.
This is the song i listen to when I'm pumped for a coming up convention, or when working on my cosplay. It just gets me in the mood.^^
People say otaku mean u have no social life and u stay home and ur room is filled with anime thing but if that true then I gladly call my self a otaku
Ok, loser. (you said it, not me)
Devan Skrobarcek Otaku doesn't mean you stay at home all day with no social life, it just means you like anime. I call myself an otaku, as do many of my friends, and even my girlfriend agrees to calling herself an otaku. It's not a bad thing, just something that is a little different from the rest. A hikikomori is someone with no social life and stays at home all day. Hope I helped. :)
rocky554 "it just means you like anime." let me stop you right there. That isn't at all what it means.
Oskar Kovac I know. I was just giving a general description. It can just mean you like a certain thing. In most cases it is anime, however it could be anime, cars, sports, books, math, it doesn't really matter.
rocky554 Still not what it means.
"a young person who is obsessed with computers or particular aspects of popular culture to the detriment of their social skills."
It means you are a nerd.
Well absolutely just 5 the other 1 is just pretending that she like anime stuffs and other japanese culture - w -
Why would she pretend
For her crush to notice her and it's too obvious - w -
Lol feel bad for her.
A classic!!! I love this song!!!
I love Inu-yasha!!!! I even used to copy how he ran.
I even made my own Tetsaiga (if I spelled that right) and brought to places.
awwwwwwww........... so lucky you have his ears :3
Oh yeah, and Gumi? BIG fan! You're one of my fave Vocaloids!
Uggghhh there are soooo many normal people at my school and I feel so lonely! I'm proud to be an otaku!
Thanks for the info, ever since i got into the whole anime thing i've been seeing that word alot.
This song totally reminds me of Kirino from Oreimo :D
This is probably how my mom see's me
You could apply this to any hobby people take to an extreme and it would fit perfectly.
Gumi is my favourite vocaloid
I'm still far from able to call myself an otaku, but i'm proud to tell people that i love anime!
I love this song but I've always been open about pretty much anything
you'd love my group of friends.
