ugh I just hate seeing the Tiny Tales cages and can’t even imagine a hamster living in that their whole life. We’re almost at 12k signatures for the petition! Ideally we’d like to reach 20k! I think we can do it 👏🏼💪🏼
I'm so happy we are reaching out goals for our petition to be seen (our petition meaning the hamster and pocket pet community). I also found some news about PetSmart. They're going bankrupt and this is most likely a move to make as much money they can from their own pet line. Cause If they were to make bigger enclosures, they would have to spend more and they don't want to put the investment in when they're not doing so well. I was shocked to hear this.
My best friend got a Syrian hamster impulsively and got the “cozy house” cage. She would also BATHE HER HAMSTER IN WATER. I told her what she was doing was wrong and that she needed a bigger cage and CANNOT bathe her hamster and even showed her evidence and stuff. She just ignored me and kept doing what she was doing. I came over a month later to find out it died. She had no idea why🙄
This is absolutely horrible. People finally need to start researching the care of animals and stop buying pets impulsively. They are not toys and it breaks my heart every time I read something like this. That shows that she didn't take a single second to research anything.
that is just awful, points to you for actually KNOWING about hamsters and trying to change her mind! I had a small cage for my first hamster when I was 13 as I didn't know better. I'm lucky he lived to almost 4 years of age. I now have a second hamster 5 years later and went through 2 upgrades on bigger cages, resting now on Petsathome's 450 square inch cage and a wheel that is Massive, like the size of my head lol! Bathing a hamster is awful too! At least i knew not to do that. I have a sand bath in his cage that he LOVES!! sand baths are good. water baths aren't!
I personally don't even find cages like those pretty. They just look like a (claustrophobic) children's toy to me and last time I checked no living being should be forced to live in a claustrophobic toy
This reminds me of my cousins both got hamsters, put them in a tiny cage like this (they were both males) and they proceeded to murder each other. So my cousins parents got the hamsters separate cages, but the hamsters were still in tiny cages with nothing in the cages just food and water. One of the hamsters was so stressed he literally never stopped biting the bars and when anyone would try to take him out he would bite them. Now ultimate sadness ahead stop reading if you don't want your day to be ruined, since my cousins knew the hamsters would fight they would put them in a bucket and sit there and watch them fight and they would poke them and agitate them to start fighting. me as a child who knew 0 about hamsters still knew this was horrible and would always pull them out and stop them from fighting, but ya know they still made their hamsters fight. Long story short dont give hamsters to kids and research what you need to do to take proper care of your pet before you buy it. P.S Yes my cousins are little shits to this day.
My friends on my old street had a gerbil and they would play catch with him. They would throw him across the room to each other and laugh about it. My sister and I would scream at them when they would do it. The younger girl also picked up my dog by just her paws. 😡
@@kenzie2206 It's not really about age (You should be at least older than 7 in my opinion) but it's more about responsibility. If you have done your research, (About their food, illnesses to look out for, chews, big enough hamster cage, safe bedding, etc) and you think you are responsible enough then go for it! Just make sure that your ham ham lives a happy life, and not under stress like a hamster in this cage would.
These videos are interesting because I had 0 knowledge about hamsters and hadn't really considered how much space they would need. Shame that there isnt much mainstream information about animal care.
Actually there is lots of information if one does a but if research.... There are forums, there is you tube, etc. It's much different than it was in the 90 ies, where the Internet wasn't really helpful because there were less sources to gather information from....
I think that stuff is usually common knowledge. you just have to put your self in the animals place. & if you would want to live in one of those cages your whole life..
If you put two In together they would be dead the next day also you have a tame them you have to hold them do this everyday until they warm up to you and by the way hamsters bite really hard until you bleed also I recommend a fish tank or a plastic tin if you wanna be cheap also they need chewing stuff don’t bathe there tail or else they will die from wet tail
Faith Walker how is the tiny tales cage good? They are made to attract children with the colors and designs, but they won’t be nice to hamsters! They are small, cramped, have the tiniest wheel ever, are impossible to build and I can’t even emagine cleaning! I mean, it’s a good cage if you what to see an animal suffer. Good day 🙄
⚠ALERT⚠ very sad thing ahead. This video is what started it. I originally was looking at rats needs because I really want rats and try to get really educated on the subject because I always want to be the best owner possible. I saw this video suggested amlnd watched it, where I learned that bar biting is a stress symptom. I watched more of your videos and I learned that *For my entire life I've been abusing my hamsters because I was wrongly educated by my parents.* We had our cute albino hamster (one year old) who recently died, in a cage that's too small, no toys, only a wheel, and he was very very stressed!!! This absolutely broke my heart, learning that he had 8 out of 10 stress symptoms. That we had been abusing so many hamsters. I cried even. I feel so bad for believing them all this time and never researching it. But we've been doing this since I was 3. Now thanks to your videos, I learned and got educated on hamsters and mice more. And I will make sure to educate others too. Especially my family. Your videos really do help. and maybe I can't help all our past hamsters but I'm so thankful that because of you I'm able to make a difference for every hamster my family gets for the rest of my life.
Britney Xox but if you want one you gotta get two or they would die depressed they play I keep them happy and are sweet be careful they can get jealous and hurt other animals for attention so if you don’t want them to get jealous and hate the other let them spend time you can feed them a lot of stuff but not to much stuff that’s how I got one to live for a year I hope two they like to spend there time with their brother or sister but when they grow up they will learn to stay with you some times they chew keep an eye on them if they try and get out of a cage move them to a different place they know when something bad is gonna happen but I keep them next to my bed so you might want to do the same if they don’t wanna sleep without you and my instagram is lilymonster22 I don’t really much take pictures because im not gonna keep them in place for a long time for a picture it was hard to take a picture of this rat
Britney Xox give them lots of toys and stuff to climb in they like sleeping on high spots let them run around on you so they can know you better from top to bottom
Let me tell you, rats are great pets. I have two, and I love them with all my heart. They are higher maintenance then hamsters, but it's worth it. But of you do end up getting rats, you have to get two or more, since they can get depressed and stressed, and then in turn, they can die.
I don’t think chain pet stores realize how much money they would make if they made all these new cages the right size. I would buy the castle one for my mice in a heartbeat if it was as big as it’s supposed to be. I bought a castle (toy) from goodwill and just put it in their cage cause I have a fairy theme going on lol they love climbing it and made a nest inside the castle
@@lunattr5662 I know right. These cages are so cool if only they'd be a bit better quality and a good bit bigger. The idea of a themed cage is something I'd love to spend a couple extra bucks on. But alas, my mice live in an old terrarium of appropriate size. The only real drawback being that hanging waterbottles is a pain.
Not all chain pet stores are bad. I live in New Zealand and we have quite a few chain pet stores. I dont really see anything like these there. My favourie pet store here though however isnt a chain pet store and i definitely prefer it to the other ones, but the other ones still arent bad
*****PLEASE READ****** A few weeks ago I was at PetSmart and I saw they had these Tiny Tale cages and the accessories for them. The accessories that they had at my PetSmart were the green chairs, the red couches, and the blue beds. Now I was interested in the accessories because they are wood and very cute so I believed they were safe to purchase for my hamsters. Now I have 4 hamsters. I have 1 robo dwarf, 1 fancy bear Syrian, 1 long haired Syrian, and I had another fancy bear that pasted a few days ago ❤️(had nothing to do with tiny tales.) Anyway I was looking at the wood bed chewing accessory that they had on the shelf. They had 4 beds so I figured it would be PERFECT to buy because I had 4 hamsters and they had 4 beds what a coincidence I thought. As I picked up all of the 4 beds and was walking to the register with my boyfriend, a worker came up to me and asked how cute I thought the wood beds were that I WAS going to purchase. I told her that I thought they were really cute and that I had 4 hamsters so it was perfect for me to buy these! So then told me that those beds I WAS going to buy were being “recalled.” I asked her why and she said it’s because the manufacturer PUT A NAIL IN ALL OF THE BEDS to hold the headboard and bed together. She told me she was on her way to pull them off the shelf as I WAS ABOUT to buy them. She told me she had gotten an email EARLY in the morning saying that they needed to be taken off of the shelf ASAP!! It was past 12pm and she just was taking them off!!! Why would they wait so long???? Moral of the story is DO NOT BUY FROM TINY TALES. My hamsters could’ve been seriously hurt thanks to the manufacturer and the carelessness of the staff at PetSmart...
Abi and Alex omg thanks so much. I just got surprised with a hamster for my b day and my mom and I went to get a smaller hut and some soft insulating bedding. And we saw the beds and couches that were cute and I decided not too. But I’m glad you said that cause I might have gotten it later
I am guilty of buying this... but after watching this I went out and got a much larger cage. I have noticed a change in new babies personality. However it was well beyond my deadline to return so rather than waste anything i took out all the junk in inside and was able to use it as a travel case when we moved. thank you for posting this very informative.
Octavia Scott good job! Don’t feel guilty you bought it people who don’t know it is bad shouldn’t be feeling guilty. I bought my parrot a bad cage just heard it on a youtube video so bought my african grey parrot a bigger one its on it way now lol
OMG thank you so much I have his cage for my hamster because that’s what the Petsmart person recommended now me and my mom are on our way to get a huge cage and get better equipment thank you so much!!!!!
This cage would have been great if: It was 3 times it's size. It had a different non leaking water bottle. Bigger en better wheel. Bigger tubes. LESS ANNOYING CONSTRUCTION CAUSE NOBODY WANTS TO TAKE 2 HOURS TO PUT A CAGE TOGETHER. That was my rant, great video btw!
I am so glad I came across this video as I honestly had no idea we were doing so much harm to our hamster. My daughter, who turned 8 in October, adopted a hamster (from petsmart..) for her birthday. She loves her little hamster and takes very good care of her but she chose the castle cage. We didn't know.. :( I was searching for reviews on the little turret attachment, for a Christmas gift to Henrietta (the hamster) and that's how I found your video, and subsequently all the info on the bad cage. So thank you for that!!!! I went straight to Amazon and bought the prevue cage you recommend. I hope Henrietta will love it. I'm so glad we found out about this. I would hate for anything to happen to my daughter's beloved little Henrietta.
@@eliiinore you can adopt from a pet store, just ask an employee and they usually have some in the back for adoption for free as they have been bought back and cannot be resold. So yes you can adopt from a pet store and buying them isn't the same thing
D. Dawn Thank you, I am so happy that little Henrietta will have a good life from now on some people dont fix there mistakes but you did and I must thank you for that. 💙 Hailey.
Thank you for fixing your cage mistake!!! But please!!! In the future, do your research in advance before getting a new animal. I hope you’ve also went over other research afterwards with some other things for your hamster such as dieting and enrichment. It is very important and vital that they have proper care. And I really hope your new cage meets the 450 square inch bare minimum.
When my hamster passed a couple weeks ago my mum gave the pet shop all the stuff we had, including my Syrians bin cage and my two dwarfs bin cages All they said was 'Jesus Christ no wonder they lived really long lives'
My 3 year old upon seeing your hamsters in that cage: "He wants to come out, he no like it." She's 3 and she can see it. The companies making cages like this have ZERO EXCUSES.
@@jstn5471 Do they have pets at home? Seems very odd to me that a 7 year old can't tell, but then again we have 15 pets in our home. Not all situations are equal.
I seen some people saying these cages are perfect for rats....for RATS! Rats who are way bigger than Syrian hamsters and they say it's perfect for them.
Well, I can see it being cool if you have a lot of them connected, because rats love to explore. But those tubes are way too small for rats... so yeah, no. I will stick with building my own, custom cages for our rats.
For anyone wondering the minimum cage size for rats is 2 cubic feet per rat. Rats also shouldn't be kept alone meaning any cage should be at least 4 cubic feet in size to house rats at a minimum. This cage being perfect for rats is one of the funniest thing I've heard in a long time
@@rosemary.-6576 They can work very well, but building cages myself gives me the oppertunity to really customize them, and to give my rats crawlspaces, spaces to climb and things like that! And the material in total costs about the same, if not less then if I was to buy something. I am working on a farm, thats were I keep my rats too, and we always build everything ourself so I have no problems with that!
Sooooo... let me see if I've got this straight Saskia for guinea pigs Emiology for rats And Munchie's for hamsters Who knew UA-cam was going to become the ultimate source for small pet care information? provider?
What about hedgehogs? I’ve had my hedgehog for about 3 years and she has a cage that is double the minimum size, a California storm wheel and lots of hides and “snuggle sacks”. I’ve been trying my best but I’ve only ever watched one youtuber. I don’t know if she is always correct.
Love of Pets PetSmart tries their best so it might take them a while because of all the Animal Rights Activtists messaging them as well as many other people
mrs mozzarella sticks actually no, they are not. People are not bad people for doing their jobs. I recently went to PetSmart and saw good cages besides this one. They are trying their best to be a good pet shop.
These cages so far seem like you could use them as playsets for small toys, which say a lot about the company's motives because I instantly thought of using some of the cage parts for LPS. These do NOT look hamster safe at all.
I recall the toy Alamo play set with miniature plastic figures of soldiers and horses. A toy play set is considerably larger than the Tiny Tales cages for live pets! Unbelievable...
They should make decorative large cages meant for hamsters that are not teeny tiny. Something cool looking but large enough to house a hamster. Like themed cages.
i WORK at petsmart and i bloody HATE THESE!!!! people buy them all the time and they're HEINOUS I CANT EVEN FDJ|KSBFVZ i usually tell customers that these are extremely temporary and i reccommend something like a 20 gallon glass aquarium for syrian hamsters
Usually i wouldn't recommend 20 gal for syrians (And it's only 360 sq inches, under the min requirement of 450) since Syrians want to bust through it come adulthood but that's a starting place since many owners don't like the idea of shopping for something bigger. But at least it's bigger than a plastic cage such as kaytee or tiny tales but it's still an improvement, but thank you for trying to educate your customers. We need more people in petstores giving the right info.
I work at petsmart and do the same thing of recommending a minimum of a 20 gallon long. I hate when people buy small cages for a hamster especially a Syrian.
@@MunchiesPlace Walmart has the worst items when it comes to animal, I'm a guinea pig owner and I always go to Walmart so I always check out what they have, they have a hamster cage for 20$, the box is so small holy crap, the food for guinea pigs horrible there
Ok update lol- someone liked my cmmt and I was like wtf why did I cmmt tiny cells- was this one of the microscopic among us mini crewmate vids that I cmmted on- and then I clicked on it and remembered my only watching bad hamster cage vids 1 week long faze-
I bought my 75 gallon tank for 70$........... my aunt buys her bin cages the same size for 15$..... its very cheap to get the right thing and plus have extra for toys but parents do not know about this. I feel so bad for the hammies in these. I would cry if i saw a hammie in it.
my aunt was telling the family about some hamsters she owned a few years ago, and I had to leave the room I got so mad. She got her hamster a small cage like this one. she said the hamster was "lonely" so she got another one. already a bad idea. but, she wanted a female but it turned out to be a male. she put them in the same cage, and they started fighting, almost tearing each other to shreds. to make matters worse, they started breeding. they had 12 baby hamsters, and the mom ate 4 of them. they were ALL in the SAME cage! the SMALL cage! big no no. she said things got out of hand so she decided "it was a better idea to release them" I thought she meant sell them to someone, but nope. she meant release them into the wild! I almost started to tear up, and explained to her everything she did terribly. she still denied she was a bad owner. EDIT: for those of you saying you think MY hamster needs a bigger cage, I am aware... and it was just a temporary cage while I waited for my bin cage to be ready to put her in. Hopefully you guys can understand that I would never keep my hamster in a cage like that for long term purposes! Okie just wanted to make that clear lol
The good thing about your aunt is she sounds like a conventional person with no imagination, o she won't be getting more hamsters, since they are "children's pets"
@@dorapineda-lopez9603 my family either gets no eggs or gets free range eggs , and if the store only has caged hen eggs we don't get them, my family do our best not to support that. I also hope to be vegetarian soon.
Munchie, I work at a pet store. And I was testing water bottles one day to discover that EVERY SINGLE ONE LEAKED I told my boss and she was going to send them in until a coworker asked if I filled each and every one all the way to the top to test it. I hadn't. Turns out in order for the seal and vacuum to work right sonit won't drip continuously. So that could be why you had trouble with that type of water bottle.
That's wonderful to hear. And if you tell her about the colorful bedding you can buy in petstores and themed cages, i'm sure she'd love to make a pink castle themed bin cage to replace the castle cage she has. Themed cages are always fun to make. :)
So what I understand is that these cages are cheaply made, they break extremely easily, it's very hard to put together, the water bottle is trash and the cage is just completely trash. I hated them from the beginning and I'm now going to warn the people that come to my store that if they buy it good luck cuz it's one big waste of time and money
No, Faze rug treats him right, after the video he puts hammy back in his normal cage. Also faze rug's hamster is 2 years dead buddy. There is no point in reacting to his videos.
It is so sad that people treat hamsters like a toy and buy them for there kids not knowing anything about hamsters and get a 12 inch cage and why would they make it a pink castle, it should be a haunted castle because of how awful and terrifying it is for the poor thing. Love your channel so much!
Hey Munchie, quick story: For a small portion of my hamsters life,I was poorly educated and my dwarf hamster was living in a critter trail but then I upgraded to a 680 square inch bin cage and she seems so much happier because of you...thank you.😁
I went to PetSmart the other day to pick up things for my mouse, and they had this cage, and another one on display it said underneath (not for sale. not suitable for hamsters or rodents. Display use only) and upon further observation, I realised they do not sell them anymore!
Ugh now I feel like a terrible human being. I remember I got my first (and last) dwarf hamster. I bought a cage from the pet shop that I got him at, but it was fairly small. My cousin's dad said he got one of these cages at a yardsale and said he'd give it to me. The cage wasn't that bad, but it has two tiers and one little box at the top that was see through. My hamster didn't die from stress or anything, but escaped through a loose tube. And I own a cat... and I never found his body. So moral of the story, don't use these cages while owning acat.
I work at a petsmart. They are even more tiny than the kaytee cages by like an inch or two which is very sad cause no hamster shud live in a cage like that. I love seeing customers who buy 20 to 40 gallon tanks for there hamsters. There is hope in the world for hamsters.
Pets101 Sub Actually, fish tanks are completely safe for hamsters. As long as they have proper oxygen pathways, they should be okay. Tanks are actually a lot better than cages as you can add as much bedding as you like and the see-through walls help you observe the hamster much more easily. Do your research before “correcting” others, sweety.
L o s t i n. U s. I use a cage a bit bigger when I take my rats to the vet (I have noodle arms and can’t hold larger) I want to get them out as FAST as possiblw
If my Little sister begged me for one of these i would litterally only get it If i attached it to a bin Cage over the minimum Size so it would only be a Fun extention to a appropriate Cage, but never would i ever keep a Hamster in Just this
It’s just sad to think about the amount of hamsters who live in tiny cages that are meant to look cute. I spent 50 of my own dollars as a 14 year old just to get my dwarf a suitable cage. If I can do that at 14 a grown adult can do that for their child’s hamster cage
Annika Olson yessss i’m 13 and i got a bin cage for my syrian and i spent like 80 dollars for a bin, chicken wire, and hamster supplies and food, bedding toys everythingggg. he is around 8 months old and he’s still very shy but has never bit me. those cages are 80 dollars and it’s such a waste.
I feel like these are made for people who consider small rodents and fish as disposable pets. "why go through all the trouble of cleaning the cage if I'm just using this hamster as a tool to teach my kids about loss of life?" it's the same people who put fish in bowls smh
No. It's a lack of information. For instance, I got my guinea pig yesterday. Was pointed to a decent looking cage (bigger then the surface of my desk) that had all the starter shit for him. Come to find out you need to give them a cage mate, the enclosure needs to be around 7 square feet, they require toys, ect. If we aren't told these things and are only told they are entry level simple pets, we won't know. It's not our faults if we are trying to do our best just to find out we received misinformation
Don't even do that. The Zhu Zhu Pets would barely able to move around and just bump and run into the walls and squeaking or making whatever sounds Zhu Zhu Pets make. Do it for smaller toys.
Btw for anyone thinking about getting the prevue 528, I have had a robo in the past in the cage and the bar spacing is plenty small enough for any type of dwarft hamster including robos.
You know what's sad is there are people who put rabbits in about the same size of cage your reviewing and rabbits are bigger than a hamster or a gerbil. I'm so glade you are promoting large areas for hamsters as there are people who think smaller is better! The minimum space required for a rabbit in the U.S is 1ft by 1ft aka 12in by 12in, which is extremely sad as no animal should be in something so small! Keep promoting large, spacious areas for hamsters and gerbils and consider contacting the company who makes these products and share your reasons why they need to make their things at least useable or share to them why they need to label their product " An accessory for a larger cage," or something!
I had a friend who did that, but with a bird cage! Thank fully she has her rabbit free roaming now. BUT SHE GOT A BIRD FOR THE OLD CAGE! She didn’t buy anything for it and I don’t even know if she has food.. I don’t think she knows budgies live for 10 years.
I always heard that the minimum for rabbit cages was 6 feet long by 3 feet high (for jumping room.) Hadn't ever heard of 1 by 1, that's even smaller than the minimum recomendation for guinea pigs at 4 by 2.
Out of The Hat, look it up. Most rabbit people say 4ft x 4ft is the minimum, but pet stores and the average human think they belong in something that is 2ft x 1ft. The reason why we think a rabbits can be in something that small, is because before rabbits were pets, people raised rabbits for meat and showing. In the United States, legally they can’t put a minimum space requirement because of these traditions and businesses.
Thats crazy!! I was at Petsathome and they had a huge taped section on the floor of how big the cages should be for a rabbit! (Since it was easter) I saw someone go on with their 8yr old or something and the mum saw the restrictions and looked at them in disgust and left!
Everyone makes faults! But don't do the same again learn from your faults. I understand a hamster is a living being and I'm probably gonna get hate on this comment but with everything you can make faults and it's just sad that so much people don't get informed for a living being and make these faults! It already happened and you can't do much about it other than not doing it again.
It’s ok as long as you learned from your mistakes! Everyone makes mistakes but it’s ok as long as you learned from it and won’t make the same mistake again
I work at pet store and few days ago client wanted to get a hamster for their kid. At store we have Syrian hamsters, Djungarian, Roborovski, chinese dwarf hamsters. Client chose syrian (at that time we had one syrian left). I told them that they need big cage, so you could fit all the hides, proper size wheels(We only have Trixie brand plastic wheels, Kinda same as Silent runners). We had one cage perfect for syrian, but it cost 79€(~90$) They said it was too expensive.... In the end THEY chose roborovski in clear plastic cage... It was about same size as this Tiny tales (Base size) but in height it was bit less than half of this one. I felt sad, that they didn't listen. And believe me.... I have coworkers that put syrians in cages of size 25x40x20CM (9.8x15.7x7.8 inches)...
@@blazedbat they can, but sadly our stores policy isn't letting us to do that. We can only deny people that are under 16 and drunkards. Our company cares only about money, so yeah.
Cages like this is why I made my own bin cage. He originally had a Kaytee critter trail cage, and, being a Syrian, got trapped in a tunnel. He nearly died! Snowball now has a bin cage with a wheel, food bowl, lots of toys and chewing wood. He also has a hut that the hides in when we vacuum! I’m very sorry about Chunky Chip, I hope the best for him.
(My comment can be very upsetting so keep that in mind. CW: Animal cruelty) Thank you so much for educating people on hamsters! My mom refused to get pets because when I was 8 we got 2 hamsters from someone and they turned out to be a male and female (She got told it was 2 females). They were in a cage around this side and looking back at it, they were always super anxious. Ended up with around 40 hamsters all in tiny cages fighting and literally eating each other. Some of the hamsters actually became insane because I would ring the bars and stress them out because I basically couldn't understand they were not toys, plus people commonly not know what a hamster needs. Even my mom would find it funny when they were climbing because we thought it was funny and didn't know it was stress. Obviously, the hamsters became quite aggressive and one day they escaped and they would make nests and my mom had to kill them as she would find them. It ended when we had to call pest control. It was honestly so traumatising and no one in my family knew what we did wrong. I don't currently own a hamster but I want to own one and I am looking to educate myself on hamsters because I can't change what I did to those hamsters but I want to give a hamster a loving home free of cruelty, where he's not seen as a toy, but as the little creature he/she is with feelings. PETS ARE NOT TOYS
When I got my first hamster in 8.5 years last February, he was in a small and flimsy cage. He was very unhappy in it and just wanted space. I could tell by the way he was acting meant he wasn't completely happy. But at the time it didn't register that I just needed to upgrade the cage. On day 2, he was already trying to get me to pick him up. He was trying everything to get me to take him out, but I kept telling him HE needs to wait. Usually it would be me needing to wait but it wasn't with him. But even in a bin cage, he desperately tried to get me to pick him up. I would be cleaning up things and he'd be all over my arm.
Hamster don't like to be picked up by people they just like to explore looking for food thats all their do is their nature you can have the biggest cage you can buy and stil after sniff all the cage he'll be familiar with and after that he will try to bite the cage trying to free himself because that's their nature
@@jvazquez7160 That's false. There are hamsters that cuddle up to their owners. My very first hamster hated being grabbed at to be picked up. I had to sit there the 3 times she went back and forth before she climbed onto my hand. This hamster was the polar opposite than she was. I could snatch him up, rub noses, kiss his feet, trust him not to bite and do things not many hamsters would allow you to do. I could tell if he was scared, and he was not scared at all. I had a hamster at one point that didn't like to be touched at all, and actually screamed at me. The only time I heard any squeaking from that hamster, was when he was dying. It was because he couldn't breath, but it also did stop when I picked him up to comfort him. At that moment, it felt like he was almost calling for me and didn't stop until I picked him up. Sense the day I got him to the day he passed, he liked the human interaction.
@@AutumnSwift2 I agree, my very first hamster absolutely loved to be held, and he let everyone in my family cuddle him! He loved running around on my bed at night and I trusted him not to jump off. My second hamster was more Fiesty and seemed to tolerate being held. He'd let me hold him for a few minutes and then would want back down. My mom refused to hold him like she did with my first one because this one bit her finger when she held him the first time. I held him as he passed and he snuggled up in my hands while he was in so much pain. Now my current hamster is still pretty young, he lets me hold him but he's still a bit squirmy since he's still so young. He's also definitely more vocal and squeaks at me when I try to clean up his cage. But I've never had a hamster that was straight up aggressive and didn't want human intereaction. All in all each hamster has a different personality but if you earn their trust, they will let you interact with them because they know that you're not a threat.
jvazquez lmao that’s a lie ! Hamsters actually do enjoy bonding with their owners and it’s actually crucial!!! For you to bond with them and interact with them they need socializing
Petition signed! Terrible small cage designs, not suitable for any living creature. These are poorly thought out and clearly cheap. The only concern when designing these was 💵
I’m reallocate here spending the last of my money, spending hours of research, and working really hard just to give my soon to be hamster the best home/ life! Thank you so much for showing me what hamsters home should look like❤️!
I wish I would have known about correct cage sizes for hamsters when I was a kid. I had a PHENOMENAL hamster named Gabby and she was nicknamed Houdini because she'd get out literally every other day. Had she had a proper enclosure with enrichment I bet she wouldn't have wanted to get out and into everything. She did live over 3 years and never had any health problems but I wish I would've known. My pet rats had a massive 80 gal tank with multi levels and hammocks and nest boxes so I did learn.
Awful. I had a hamster when I was a kid but thankfully my parents and I did enough research to know what a proper cage is. Parents just buy this cause it looks cute and fun which should NEVER be a priority.
You should review the "Three Layers Cage Haven House for Hamster Pet" Or the "Deluxe Hamster Habitat Cage Portable Transparent Plastic Mouse House Fully-Equipped Accessories"
Surviving isn’t thriving It is under the minimum USA : 540 square inches Uk: 620 square inches Germany: 820 square inches In you country that is the rule if you have anything under the minimum that is abuse also if you have a cage that small then you can fit all the stuff they need 10+ inch wheel 3 proper sized hides Bored breakers Toys Chew toys Sand bath And more You hamster is not fine that cage is 290 square inches I think it might be smaller tho so it doesn’t provide the space they need I would watch more of her vids or go to Victoria Racheal
I bought this cage for my daughter along with a Syrian Hamster. We got home as soon as I put him in it I was like no way. Watched a few videos on cages. Came across the prevue 528 and immediately ordered it that night. The first night he got out and luckily I found him. So he only had 2 spend like 2 nights in it until the new cage came in. You could just tell he was so much happier once he was in the new setup. I took it back and the gentleman that helped me was like thank you for bringing this back and giving your hamster a better life. I wish they had better options at the pet stores. Thank you so much for your info! It helped us become better pet parents!
The pet stores should sell the large clear bins Walmart, Target, and Home Depot do... Mind you with them selling the lids with proper air ventilation already done so we don't have to do it ourselves... The Sterlite 200 and 116 quart bins should be sold in every pet store worthy of calling themselves a pet store...
geez...im cringing just from imagining a hamster living its whole life in there with a owner that doesn't know any better. poor thing, that cage is advertised like a toy..
Lps mystic Melodies LMAO the thing is they know nothing about animals in the first place!! Those employees don’t know shit literally anyone can be hired you don’t need any animal experience
Lps mystic Melodies those people are animal abusers! And killers! They throw out live fish and animals in the trash go look up videos on here people finding live lizards in plastic bags and shit
The size comparison of the boxes they came in though......She barely got the box of the first cage through the door. Then she plops the tiny ass box of the princess castle cage up on top of the finished bigger cage....... 😕
Someone I know got a HUGE Syrian hamster, they put it in a death cage(critter trail) and she showed me a picture and it was when she was running on the wheel. Her head and tail almost TOUCHED! My other friend and I told her to make a bin cage. Guess what she got one that was around 300 square inches. A week later she sends me a picture of the hamster in the "death cage"
A few days ago, I was shopping for my hamster and I saw two women picking out a critter trail for a hamster, and they were looking for the cheapest one (which is the smallest one) and I couldn’t handle it so I walked over to them and suggested a bin cage and informed them on how crittertrails are way to small for any hamster 🐹 they ended up leaving the store without the critter trail and thanked me ☺️ I was so nervous because they were adults and I’m only 13 so I didn’t think they would take a 13 year olds advise
Speaking as an adult, it just depends on how you phrase advice. I am 35 years old, but what I have found out through life experience, it doesn't matter if you are 13 or 90 years old. If you sound like you know what you are talking about, advice is advice no matter the age. For example, I work at a liquor store. There are multiple times when someone 21 years of age, gives me advice on drinks to try. I don't care if they are younger. If the person sounds like they are experienced with a specific drink and gives me the recommendation, most likely, I will try it. I don't judge people on age, I judge from either curiosity or from advice given with confidence.
This is so sad a lot of petstores don't care about pets but they care about money poor hamsters but I must admit this cage looks really cute but I would only use it as a travel cage but I'm not gonna support this brand by buying it. I really like you're videos 🌸
@@C.Woodford sadly, she got lung cancer on Christmas last year, we took her to the vet but unfortunately she was suffering and they couldn't do anything so we had to put her down.
ugh I just hate seeing the Tiny Tales cages and can’t even imagine a hamster living in that their whole life.
Munchie's Place 😨 wow, thanks for letting me know!
I’m so glad you two are spreading awareness about horrible cages like these!
Yeah please tiny tales stop it!This is cruelty to the hamster!
Hi
Well it was probably not very happy so I guess it’s kinda good he died rip tho
that is just awful, points to you for actually KNOWING about hamsters and trying to change her mind! I have a sand bath in his cage that he LOVES!! sand baths are good. water baths aren't!
did you tell her exactly how she killed her pet
I mean I want a pair or business of ferrets because they're gorgeous but I'm done research and well start saving to afford most thing
I personally don't even find cages like those pretty. They just look like a (claustrophobic) children's toy to me and last time I checked no living being should be forced to live in a claustrophobic toy
I a kid and my mom told me to buy a cage like that and I said no so I got a better cage
i thought the same thing about these cages
In my alternate universe animals treat pet humans like toys. And they have toyish awful houses on them i feel bad for humans :
I mean really id personally like it a TOY NOT A CAGE.
Ya
I would have told the parents. My mom took my brothers friends fish away for a similar reason.
You can not put two hamsters in the same cage plus they are very territorial.
My friends on my old street had a gerbil and they would play catch with him. They would throw him across the room to each other and laugh about it. My sister and I would scream at them when they would do it. The younger girl also picked up my dog by just her paws. 😡
Otter Woods I'm 11 and I want 1 hamster would I be old enough
@@kenzie2206 It's not really about age (You should be at least older than 7 in my opinion) but it's more about responsibility. If you have done your research, (About their food, illnesses to look out for, chews, big enough hamster cage, safe bedding, etc) and you think you are responsible enough then go for it! Just make sure that your ham ham lives a happy life, and not under stress like a hamster in this cage would.
These videos are interesting because I had 0 knowledge about hamsters and hadn't really considered how much space they would need. Shame that there isnt much mainstream information about animal care.
Ha Black Butler squad
Actually there is lots of information if one does a but if research.... There are forums, there is you tube, etc. It's much different than it was in the 90 ies, where the Internet wasn't really helpful because there were less sources to gather information from....
I think that stuff is usually common knowledge.
you just have to put your self in the animals place. & if you would want to live in one of those cages your whole life..
Well your the one that clicked on the video 😂
If you put two In together they would be dead the next day also you have a tame them you have to hold them do this everyday until they warm up to you and by the way hamsters bite really hard until you bleed also I recommend a fish tank or a plastic tin if you wanna be cheap also they need chewing stuff don’t bathe there tail or else they will die from wet tail
The tiny tales cage can fit inside the actually good cage ⚠️problem⚠️
three of them can.
yup!
It’s a great cage
Faith Walker how is the tiny tales cage good? They are made to attract children with the colors and designs, but they won’t be nice to hamsters! They are small, cramped, have the tiniest wheel ever, are impossible to build and I can’t even emagine cleaning! I mean, it’s a good cage if you what to see an animal suffer. Good day 🙄
Gaia Piracci listen up I have the same cage and my hamster loves it
⚠ALERT⚠ very sad thing ahead.
This video is what started it. I originally was looking at rats needs because I really want rats and try to get really educated on the subject because I always want to be the best owner possible. I saw this video suggested amlnd watched it, where I learned that bar biting is a stress symptom. I watched more of your videos and I learned that *For my entire life I've been abusing my hamsters because I was wrongly educated by my parents.*
We had our cute albino hamster (one year old) who recently died, in a cage that's too small, no toys, only a wheel, and he was very very stressed!!!
Britney Xox I can give you a baby rat
Britney Xox no chocolate they get really energetic
I bought a castle (toy) from goodwill and just put it in their cage cause I have a fairy theme going on lol they love climbing it and made a nest inside the castle
right, if the were the appropriate size id buy one for each of my hamsters!
@@lunattr5662 I know right. These cages are so cool if only they'd be a bit better quality and a good bit bigger. The idea of a themed cage is something I'd love to spend a couple extra bucks on. But alas, my mice live in an old terrarium of appropriate size. The only real drawback being that hanging waterbottles is a pain.
ideljenny I use Velcro and Velcro the backside of the water bottle holder onto the glass
Not all chain pet stores are bad. I live in New Zealand and we have quite a few chain pet stores. I dont really see anything like these there. My favourie pet store here though however isnt a chain pet store and i definitely prefer it to the other ones, but the other ones still arent bad
Axel Yalexa IKR I would TOTALLY buy those things
Kim Kardashian’s daughter ( north) even had this cage for her Hamster and it died so quick if anyone can remember
Lilith no it died because of the heat in her room and Kim would replace it I think she replaced it like 3 times
I literally can’t hold in the anger for how they tortured like 3 hamsters in that tiny cage ! AND gave it to a little girl 💔
Daniela Vlogs and I can't believe that they have so much money but can't even give hamsters a life with good conditions.
that’s pretty sad, kim should’ve researched with north about how to take care of one to teach her responsibility
friedcoleslaw yeah, just because they are rich doesn’t mean they can’t give a hamster a good condition.
They couldn’t even have made the castle part of the interior design... it’s just stick-on towers on the outside..
Jessicas Animal Friends I mean it’s probably for the best there’s not more clutter

A few weeks ago I was at PetSmart and I saw they had these Tiny Tale cages and the accessories for them. The accessories that they had at my PetSmart were the green chairs, the red couches, and the blue beds. Now I was interested in the accessories because they are wood and very cute so I believed they were safe to purchase for my hamsters. Now I have 4 hamsters. I have 1 robo dwarf, 1 fancy bear Syrian, 1 long haired Syrian, and I had another fancy bear that pasted a few days ago ❤️(had nothing to do with tiny tales.)
Anyway I was looking at the wood bed chewing accessory that they had on the shelf.
So then told me that those beds I WAS going to buy were being “recalled.”
I asked her why and she said it’s because the manufacturer PUT A NAIL IN ALL OF THE BEDS to hold the headboard and bed together.
You posted this a month ago and I saw them today!! Lazy pet smart

In a petshop I saw a girl geting a hamster and bought this cage. My heart just broke. My mom did't let me say a thing.
She might not have known that it was bad unfortunately, your mom should've let you say something

Not BIG tales? Ok 🐹
Lol pretty true
Yeah ok yes true
Hamsters have tiny tales unlike MOST rodents soooooooo i mean like also they wouldn’t want their title to prove the cage is tiny.................ya
I am guilty of buying this... but after watching this I went out and got a much larger cage. I have noticed a change in new babies personality. However it was well beyond my deadline to return so rather than waste anything i took out all the junk in inside and was able to use it as a travel case when we moved. thank you for posting this very informative.
Octavia Scott well the good news is you researched and change good job! 👍
Octavia Scott I am glad u have learned from your mistakes nothing to be guilty about you did good! 😊

OMG thank you so much I have his cage for my hamster because that’s what the Petsmart person recommended now me and my mom are on our way to get a huge cage and get better equipment thank you so much!!!!!
SAME! Of course returning it 🙄
Yay :D
You should complain to them about this cage etc ! x well done for getting a bigger cage tho!
That’s great you are getting a new one!
They recommend it for me and my mom knew that it was a terrible cage now we have a aquarium cage that is the right size for her
This cage would have been great if:
It was 3 times it's size.
It had a different non leaking water bottle.
Bigger en better wheel.
Bigger tubes.
LESS ANNOYING CONSTRUCTION CAUSE NOBODY WANTS TO TAKE 2 HOURS TO PUT A CAGE TOGETHER.

Thank you for fixing your cage mistake!!! But please!!! In the future, do your research in advance before getting a new animal. I hope you’ve also went over other research afterwards with some other things for your hamster such as dieting and enrichment. It is very important and vital that they have proper care. She's 3 and she can see it. The companies making cages like this have ZERO EXCUSES.

WrathofHiei really rats??? I have a damn critter nation for my two boys
This cage being perfect for rats is one of the funniest thing I've heard in a long time
@@ShadowprincessAnimat I don't keep rats, but I heard that puppy play pens were good! You can get them of amazon for cheap if you're interested.

Ugh I hat people like u
The stores themselves can't do anything, the emails need to go straight to the CEO's or the step above the stores.
That looks like a house for a miniscule barbie doll
Marshmallow 6 yeah it’s more of a toy than a cage
They should make decorative large cages meant for hamsters that are not teeny tiny. Something cool looking but large enough to house a hamster. Like themed cages.
Demoniccupcakeluv or even themed add-ons
i agree
Why don't they make pre decorated bin cages?
Bin cages cost like half of one the cages she reviewed but are still very effective and nice!
Shane McSpice right! That sounds like a great idea!
i WORK at petsmart and i bloody HATE THESE!!!! people buy them all the time and they're HEINOUS I CANT EVEN FDJ|KSBFVZ i usually tell customers that these are extremely temporary and i reccommend something like a 20 gallon glass aquarium for syrian hamsters
I would hide all of the cages so no one can buy them

True bin cages are the cheapest and their good cages 👍
my aunt was telling the family about some hamsters she owned a few years ago, and I had to leave the room I got so mad.

Munchie, I work at a pet store. And I was testing water bottles one day to discover that EVERY SINGLE ONE LEAKED
I told my boss and she was going to send them in until a coworker asked if I filled each and every one all the way to the top to test it.

So moral of the story, don't use these cages while owning acat.

you work at petsmart and can’t even spell should and its better to have a cage not a tank.
Pets101 Sub
Actually, fish tanks are completely safe for hamsters. As long as they have proper oxygen pathways, they should be okay. Tanks are actually a lot better than cages as you can add as much bedding as you like and the see-through walls help you observe the hamster much more easily.
Do your research before “correcting” others, sweety.

It’s just sad to think about the amount of hamsters who live in tiny cages that are meant to look cute. I spent 50 of my own dollars as a 14 year old just to get my dwarf a suitable cage. If I can do that at 14 a grown adult can do that for their child’s hamster cage

You *could* use it as a doll house. Though the price seems ridiculous...
C N123, yep it is crazy but true.

Thank you so much for educating people on hamsters!
Autumn Swift awe that’s sweet maybe he was thanking you
Hamster don't like to be picked up by people they just like to explore looking for food thats all their do is their nature you can have the biggest cage you can buy and stil after sniff all the cage he'll be familiar with and after that he will try to bite the cage trying to free himself because that's their nature

Cruznick06 in the future, if you get more rats: DO NOT USE A TANK! Rats get respiratory infections really easily and need proper ventilation

My other friend and I told her to make a bin cage. Guess what she got one that was around 300 square inches.
A week later she sends me a picture of the hamster in the "death cage"
Critter trails are perfectly fine
