This thing is unsuitable for any animal, but BIRDS?! as a bird mom it makes me so angry that they could even market this thing for birds. Birds can't drink out of water bottles either, and there's no places to hang toys. Even a tiny parakeet wouldn't be able to open it's wings in there. Also, they would quickly figure out how to open the door with their beak, making it unsuitable even for a travel cage. And I thought the round cage that they're selling on petco.com was bad.

i love watching japanese videos where they make tiny food for their hamsters but when they feed it to them you see that they have cages no bigger than the one in this video 😭
Shame this is a problem pretty much everywhere. Honestly, videos like these make me not want to have pets anymore. I currently have a male betta in a 5.5 Gallon tank, but once he passes away, I think that’ll probably be it for me.
I live in a dorm with other people who have Service and Emotional Support. I have an ESA (she's a Syrian hamster by the name of Muffin) and you can often hear that being yell down the hall by the RA on Duty when they hear a fur baby voicing its opinion in the middle of the night or trying to break the world record of wheel squeaking.
This isn't a good cage for ants, either! Those holes could easily be climbed out of and generally people like to have their ants inside their enclosure rather than freeroaming the house.
I think there is 83% more bad cages online market towards kids and unsuspecting parents than there are good cages, good pet stores and good rescues/breeders. Honestly it's a mess for our community that i hope i can fix by educating ppl with videos.
So true! It really irritates me when people don't properly research their pets or know anything about them apart from a few myths, and then treat them only half as well as they should.
I knew a lot about ferrets but never thought I'd get one. I saw my poor dude Woodchip bored by himself and impulse bought him--at least he's got an owner who knows what they're doing! I hate people impulse buying something they know absolutely NOTHING about!!
I wish ppl would stop making and selling small cages even though I know they won't. I myself live in a small town and there's only one major store for everything, it's Walmart and in the pet section they do have a hamster cage, but it's so small it makes me so mad. I get so upset over that kind of stuff because there's nowhere else in town to go get hamster stuff but there. I'm so glad you help spread awareness for this type of stuff. #hamstersarenottoys
Small town America is the worst place to have to supply for a pet, especially if you’re concerned about supporting local businesses! We can only hope one day there will be laws on what companies can/cannot sell when it comes to animal care
@@ZinniaLP I was literally thinking while I was watching this "you could fit a pet snail in there, barely, and even then it'd be a little on the small side". This isn't an enclosure for small mammals! It's disgusting! I wouldn't treat my INSECTS like that! - Signed, the snail/worm/bug lady.
if this was sturdier, i think it could be a nice enclosure for a tarantula sling, but you’d have to mesh the air holes cause i think a tarantula sling could fit through them.
See that's using your head. How come this China marketing company couldn't have thought of it for reptiles and bugs instead?! They gotta market it towards cute things which bothers the hell out of me because small doesn't mean cute.
Munchie's Place with a few small changes, it would make an incredible enclosure for baby insects and maybe even some adults. it could be used as a grow out cage for scorpions, and could even be a snail enclosure! so many possibilities that wouldn’t be cruel!!
Munchie's Place Because people probably want a rodent or bird more then a reptile or snake. It’s appealing to the brain and therefore tricking it to buy this crappy cage for a rodent or bird.
But remember they're not are big as they look sense their fur is so dense and thick. They can surprisingly fit into tight spaces that you wouldn't think was possible.
Rant ahead: Cages like these should be banned. I personally wouldn't even use it as a travel cage or temporary cage during cleaning either, because my syrian hamster is in over 1000 square inches and I feel as though the change would be overwhelming even if for a small amount of time (but if I had multiple hammys maybe I'd consider it, I don't know. I understand why you would). During cleaning he's in a store bought cage which we got him with. People need to realise hamsters and other small animals are LIVING CREATURES. That cage is practically torture as you said. I'd be surprised if a hamster could even survive in that hell. Don't get a pet if that's all you can afford, and don't go under the minimum for your country.
Their stress levels increase very easily so by having Hannibal in it for say over 10 minutes, he would probably exhibit a rise in core body temps which would indicate how stressed he was and how harmful that level of stress could be for his organs and health. I don't even like putting the hamsters in temporary holding containers while cleaning or traveling due to each one reacting differently. Some are calm and just lay there, others get freaked out and it can be due to how they were raised/brought into this world/past ownership. :/ It's just unfortunate that hamsters are prone to stress related illness and can die from it very quickly due to their short lives and unhealthy stressful lifestyles upon being delivered to a petstore out of a breeding mill.
MrTYTrack Seriously tho! Did you see how Hannibal was already panicking in there after like 3mins??? Imagine a poor animal having to actually LIVE in there
This is bad for a hamster, but they said it's for a rat. RATS ARE LIKE 20 TIMES THE SIZE OF DWARF HAMSTERS. Even Syrian hamsters are smaller than rats.
im in Japan and these are the type of cages everybody uses. the pet store enclosures are roughly 40 square inches and there are hardly 1 centimeter of pine bedding. I have to get the appropriate bedding off amazon because in Japan paper based bedding does not exist . It usually takes about 2 months to get my order so I have to make my own bedding I so wish Japan could change its really hard to take care of a hamster correctly especially since the biggest size of wheels they have are 6 inches thank you for making these types of vids hopefully people here in Japan will realize that there actually torturing those poor hammys and they will have an appropriate size cage.
I’ve seen in Japan very complex cat litters, maybe you could try the wood pellets?? I know that ErinsAnimals uses them as in her country it’s hard to get decent substrate as well.
This is one of the smallest cages I've ever seen. You can make a bin cage for cheaper then this "cage." My syrian hamster lives in a 110 qt bin cage I made for about $10 and my other hamster which is a dwarf lives in a 110 qt bin cage too. Just because syrians are bigger doesn't mean dwarfs should be stuffed into these claustrophobic cages. #hamstersarenottoys
Hey this is response to the end, and wanted to let you know this is the smallest marketed cage I have ever seen. I just rescued a dwarf hamster that lived half of his life in a travel cage so this is just sad.
Yes it's very sad. I can imagine a lot of parents and children who don't exactly do their research can end up putting poor animals in these tiny, wired cages. :( (Also sorry to be grammar police but *creatures)
I live in the UK and some of the cages are just as bad as the US and I seen that a small cage said “ Suitable for small animals like Hamsters, Rabbits and other small animals” like how can they put rabbits in who are REALLY BIG ( I have 2 male bunnies who are like a year old or something and they are already massive)
I wish the US was harsher in its laws for pets. They really do not see pets as something to cherish. Many places still label pets as "items" and are in our laws as "property".
Ugh. I hate when rabbits are marketed as "small animals" They need living and exercise room. And they aren't "starter pets," either. Their diet is intricate, and there are very specific health matters that need to be considered with them. Not to mention most people don't think to have them fixed, which leads to behavioral and health issues, and they can live up to 10 years! Not a light commitment!
my girlfriend's best mate has a single large female rabbit (her names cottonball but we started calling her margaret and it stuck), and she's about the size of my largest cat, who's about 90cm long and weighs about 12kg. i honestly dont know why rabbits are considered 'small pets,' i've seen some landrace rabbits outsize small dogs.
@@kitty-pm2md I have two rabbits that both definitely outsize small dogs and many cats (they both have New Zealand blood). They each have 16 square feet floor space for their general living, and get out to exercise through the entire living room. It always breaks my heart to see cages smaller than my desk advertised for rabbits.
My friend has a rabbit that's called a "Red Eyed White" bunny, and he weighs SEVEN POUNDS. He's huge. Like both of my feet lined up lengthwise. I don't think his head and ears would have even fit in that tiny acrylic thing.
I love how your reviews are so brutal yet hilarious. XD That said, these are great reviews to spread awareness of bad cages. Hopefully they'll get more people to be responsible pet owners.
Hmmm. It's obviously too small for much use, a holding space for a hammy while the main cage is cleaned is a great suggestion (probably without the supplied house or food dish). I would consider letting a non-chewer have it as a hide inside their main cage. A bit alarming that they think so many other types of animal would even fit! I guess you could build it around a very patient Guinea Pig?! 😂 I am quite drawn to the design, the modern cleanliness of it. Make it twelve times the size and seal the edges and you'd have a very attractive cage to fill with your own stuff. It looks like it has decent enough ventilation and if the door was kept to the same proportion it'd allow good access. I like that it comes with a small bottle, it makes it much easier to tell if the water is being drunk and it encourages water changes on a more regular basis. Some of the cages you've reviewed have had insanely big water bottles for a hamster. In regards to small pet enclosures available in the UK, I find that there are as many bad cages here as what I see in reviews from the US. It doesn't help that the RSPCA no longer recommends a minimum cage size for hamsters - whatever space just has to provide enough enrichment(!). My favourite acrylic cage design, the Living World Eco Habitat, must also be available across the pond as I first saw it in HammyLux's videos. IKEA Detolf's are popular as cages here too. The biggest issue I feel we have over here is being able to buy glass aquarium tanks to use as cages. They are VERY expensive and Pets At Home don't have the equivalent of the Dollar Per Gallon sales that PetCo has. It's quite hard to even find tanks that don't come as part of a fish keeping bundle (with heater, lighting, hood, filter). As for the cage you reviewed, I recommend that you have a photo shoot with Hannibal... with it decorated as the prison cell in Silence of the Lambs! The cell walls could be attached to the outside so all you'd need is a little bed and table inside, with a chair outside the cage looking in! We'd love to see the results!
That screenshot is the cage that I have. I feel so proud ☺️ Also, as a member of the AC fam, ants would be miserable in that box..... (#AntLoveForever AntsCanada)
Oh my god just by that item title I could tell it was from China they usually are the ones that have long product names to make it easier to find in search bars Oh lord this was bad if that’s small I wonder what they consider large .____.
Thanks though, Munchie. For saying that about goldfish. A lot of people think small tanks are fine for them but they can grow up to a foot long and live 20 years if you take care of them by getting them a large grow out tank and then, later on, a larger tank or a pond. It's nice to see someone sticking up for the little guys. Hamsters included.
So my best friend had a cage a little bigger than the torture chamber for their hamster, I gave her a 500 square inch bin for her hamster, she now uses her torture chamber as a sleeping area for her hamster filled with bedding.

I would've adopted my hamsters, but I don't know of any places near me that have any for adoption except for the occasional one at Petco when my mom used to work there
Here where I live in Tenerife, the common cage I've seen for Syrian hamsters are 20×30cm small. I just hate them so so much. And I just hate it even more when I try to talk to people and they just: "Nooo, my hamster is happy, this is normal". Normal is not always the right thing. But I also know one person who has a chinchilla in a 50×50×65cm cage too. And when I was there at a party, I heard one woman say: "what a big cage". I thought she was sarcastic, but she wasn't.
Why hate.I have 20 ×30cm cage and i keep two hamsters in it.They are four monts and brother and sister. They love each other so much. Its perfect.I don't see a problem
Nikola BOSS it’s far from perfect as hamsters need a lot of space. They’re nocturnal animals that can run extremely long distances every day. Having a cage that is so small means that they have very little space to move; in the wild they have a much bigger territory. It’s often bad to keep 2 hamsters together in the first place, as they can either start fighting or reproducing. Fighting can result in the other hamster being KILLED. If you keep a brother and sister together, chances are you’ll end up with inbreed baby hamsters (yikes). Those aren’t healthy and normal either. Even if it is seemingly fine, you’re risking physical and mental health issues on your hamsters. You should provide them with adequate enclosures as fast as possible. I suggest finding a new home for them otherwise.
Hi Munchie! Recently I have been considering getting a new hamster as a pet, and though I have cared for hamsters in the past when I was younger, I'm quickly coming to realise that they may have not been in the best of conditions. I loved them dearly but they didn't have enough room, and I do remember them getting arched backs that I presume was from the wheels that came with the small cages they were in. So, I want to start over. I love hamsters with all my heart, and want to get it right this time. I've looked into setting up and buying a bin cage (it seems to be the cheapest and best option in terms of floor space) but I have a few questions - all regarding for a Winter White dwarf (since they are my favourite, though I would love to hear input on the other types of hamsters too :) ) - What kinds of bedding are the best, and which ones are NOT OKAY? I've looked into getting Carefresh (natural) but I'm not sure about the soft, pulpy texture of it... are paper shavings okay, or are they a no-no? - What size wheel for each hamster type? Regarding the ideal size, but also minimum would be helpful to know just in case there are vertical space issues in a bin cage - What mixes of food are best? I know there are some to stay away from though I can't recall exactly what they were, and searching doesn't seem to help. Thank you so much for your time!
DaBethster 1. paper shavings are actually one of the best types of bedding, especially Carefresh. It can become a bit expensive if you have a big cage though, so Aspen is another good choice. Pine, cedar, or any kind of dusty bedding is bad and shouldn’t be bought under any circumstances as they can cause respiratory problems. 2. Minimum Syrian and Chinese: 8”+ Ideal Syrian and Chinese: 11”-12” Not sure about dwarf minimums, but I’d say 7”+ is good, though I would opt for larger if you can. 3. Probably one of the best foods you can get is Higgins Sunburst and Mazuri Rat and Mouse blocks. Just mix a bag of each together and you get a very good Guaranteed Analysis. You can look in Hamster Hideout for other ideas, too. I feed my hamsters veggies every other day too, as well as scrambled egg, unseasoned cooked chicken, oat sprays, etc on occasion. Just make sure whatever you feed your hamster is safe before you give it to them. Syrians and Dwarves both have some differences regarding what they can have. If you have a dwarf, don’t give a lot of fruit, carrot, or other sugary things as they are prone to diabetes.
I got a hamster today, and it kept running on its wheel 😂 Now, at 9:43 PM, he is sleeping, although he is nocturnal. He is very tired! 💤 (his name is Pickles, he is a Robo Dwarf Hamster 🐹)

I have an ESA (she's a Syrian hamster by the name of Muffin) and you can often hear that being yell down the hall by the RA on Duty when they hear a fur baby voicing its opinion in the middle of the night or trying to break the world record of wheel squeaking.
Good shout 😂 no pun intended 😂
This isn't a good cage for ants, either! Those holes could easily be climbed out of and generally people like to have their ants inside their enclosure rather than freeroaming the house.
Yeah and ant colonies get really big. You gonna need a big ass aquarium to hold ants. Plastic isn't good, the size isn't good either.
It could be a cage for display? I guess? But not for living beings.

Walmart also has bins! That should be used instead! And DIY a cage :3
Small town America is the worst place to have to supply for a pet, especially if you’re concerned about supporting local businesses! We can only hope one day there will be laws on what companies can/cannot sell when it comes to animal care

Cages like these should be banned.
It usually takes about 2 months to get my order so I have to make my own bedding
I so wish Japan could change its really hard to take care of a hamster correctly especially since the biggest size of wheels they have are 6 inches
thank you for making these types of vids hopefully people here in Japan will realize that there actually torturing those poor hammys and they will have an appropriate size cage.
You can try shredded paper towels or colourful tissue if you want some colour! Make sure the ink is safe to consume though.
I’ve seen in Japan very complex cat litters, maybe you could try the wood pellets?? I know that ErinsAnimals uses them as in her country it’s hard to get decent substrate as well.
@@audreyjensen9653 thank you ill try that
Geez, and I thought the people who used Critter Trails/Tiny Tales were pushing it with the size of those cages...

Yes it's very sad. I can imagine a lot of parents and children who don't exactly do their research can end up putting poor animals in these tiny, wired cages. :(
(Also sorry to be grammar police but *creatures)
Lol sorry about that
I live in the UK and some of the cages are just as bad as the US and I seen that a small cage said “ Suitable for small animals like Hamsters, Rabbits and other small animals” like how can they put rabbits in who are REALLY BIG ( I have 2 male bunnies who are like a year old or something and they are already massive)
#hamstersarenottoys!
I love how your reviews are so brutal yet hilarious. XD That said, these are great reviews to spread awareness of bad cages. Hopefully they'll get more people to be responsible pet owners.
OMG that robo looks like a giant in there 😂😂😂
"WHO IS MAKING THAT NOISE!!" That cracked me up😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am quite drawn to the design, the modern cleanliness of it.
That bedding is pine. Aspen is slightly more aspen.
This cage inrages me
Hang on is the cage a shoe box?

I have lego houses bigger than that!! What is wrong with people!!
Oh my god just by that item title I could tell it was from China they usually are the ones that have long product names to make it easier to find in search bars
Oh lord this was bad if that’s small I wonder what they consider large .____.
Honestly with some aquarium sealant that could probably end turned into a very nice well functioning hide house 😂
If it's clear like that would the hamster feel safe/cozy in the hide though?

Here where I live in Tenerife, the common cage I've seen for Syrian hamsters are 20×30cm small. I just hate them so so much. And I just hate it even more when I try to talk to people and they just: "Nooo, my hamster is happy, this is normal". Normal is not always the right thing. But I also know one person who has a chinchilla in a 50×50×65cm cage too. And when I was there at a party, I heard one woman say: "what a big cage". I thought she was sarcastic, but she wasn't.
I've seen shoeboxes with more floor space then 20x30. This should not be considered acceptable!
I've seen people from other countries post pictures of hamsters living in Tupperware containers.

Maybe a newborn, or a mini. I think you should upgrade to a 1 gallon tank though. A plant friend also.
I've looked into setting up and buying a bin cage (it seems to be the cheapest and best option in terms of floor space) but I have a few questions - all regarding for a Winter White dwarf (since they are my favourite, though I would love to hear input on the other types of hamsters too :) )
- What kinds of bedding are the best, and which ones are NOT OKAY? I've looked into getting Carefresh (natural) but I'm not sure about the soft, pulpy texture of it... are paper shavings okay, or are they a no-no?
- What size wheel for each hamster type? Regarding the ideal size, but also minimum would be helpful to know just in case there are vertical space issues in a bin cage
- What mixes of food are best?
How would a rat fit in there?
It would probably need to stick its tail out of one of the holes. It's horrible and a terrible market scheme.
