How can it be a language barrier when Nigeria's official language is English and is the medium of communication for all official business in that country?
Plus he resides in South Africa where English is one of the 12 official languages...
Only difference would be the intonation and difference in accents between standard American English and English spoken across West Africa..
Degree of fluency might also be an issue for the uneducated but there's no language barrier here..

As someone who has dealt with both judges and officers of the law, I learned to NOT insult them, nor yell at them. They sometimes hold the key to your freedom. And now you’re going to go off on them bc it ain’t going your way? Each court case that I was in, the complainant’s were ruled against bc they wouldn’t observe their right to be quiet ffs. I’ve gotten outta many driver violations by being nice to the officers. Like, Oops, sorry. I won’t do it again. Stuff like that goes far. Don’t tell em that they should go after REAL criminals instead of your driving infractions. Definitely DONT tell them to hit a donut shop either. It ain’t cute.
That first woman was a hoot. Love how she’s got plans to go to Florida this winter. Doesn’t every elder person wanna go there? They’re called Snowbirds. Real rude folks that descend upon Florida with all their self righteous and self serving behavior. Yeah, I lived there for 8 months. The wet heat and gnarly geriatrics sent me back to my home state.

With the Nigerian guy it's a 50/50 situation. If he was planning to defect that's a good plan. A wedding reservation at a hotel can always be cancelled and the church and hotel would be unknowingly helping the cause. As for his documents, they are his documents and he's allowed to have them on him.
There's definitely no issue with him being a Teacher in South Africa. You can live in our country and visit a different one. Also, South African customs might have a different requirement for documentation. He also might have brought all those documents as proof he's a Teacher. In a 50/50 situation like that you give him the benefit of the doubt.

I watch a lot of these kind of series from USA and Australia etc. What I cannot understand why, if people are caught intentionally smuggling food items ( Australia more so ) that they are just simply refused entry to the country and sent back to wherever they came from?

How does a U.S CBP officer know what South African Customs and Immigration policies are?
What experiences does he have dealing with incoming travellers from South Africa, whether they be south African citizens or foerign nationals residing in south Africa?
The officer made that stuff on the fly about those documents the Nigerian dude brought in it not
being needed by the south African authorities..
These guys like most leo are well versed in lying to throw people off.

If you are from any of the white EU countries you don't need Visa to travel to the US. However, if you are black from Jamaica, Haiti or Nigeria, you need to get a Visa and still after getting a Visa you go through this hassle as if they don't trust you. Illegal immigrants at the southern border gets better treatment than a citizen returning from a vacation. Sick

There's still something fishy about him bringing his resume and educational credentials. While I realize that different countries may require certain documentation to travel, it doesn't make any logical sense for any country to see those documents unless you also have a working visa to accompany them. It looks suspicious to say the least.
