i have chills. this is absolutely stunning. his voice sounds incredible and he is singing with such EASE that it's unreal. he is truly truly truly gifted.
Clay's amazing talent and star quality shine through in this video. I'm so happy someone told me about this. This performance proves that Clay needs to be back on the Broadway stage.
While I love him and Ruben both, I think he was probably going to win. "On May 21, 2003, Aiken came in a close second to Ruben Studdard, who won the contest by 134,000 votes out of more than 24,000,000 votes cast. The result was controversial, as some hypothesized that Idol's voting system was incapable of handling the number of attempted calls."
No wonder he was no stranger to the stage when we first saw him. WOW! Our skinny, nerdy, geek that we all have been blessed to hear his magical voice :) I'm smiling ear to ear :)
I feel like it was just yesterday as a senior at Leesville Middle School watching him sing this for rehearsals a few days before that year’s Pieces of Gold. I’d seen him perform many times previously and was set to go to Leesville High the next year. In middle school I got most solos for my show choir and was excited to try to measure up to him as I moved to high school. Watching this I was just in awe though, and knew he was on a completely different level. Four years after that I also went to UNC Charlotte and joined the choir there, excited to try to compete with Clay, knowing full well I would be beaten every time. 😂 He left one week to audition for American Idol…
I fail to tire of Clay’s voice. Don’t even know how many times I’ve listened to this. When life gets too much, Clay is playing. His lung capacity is phenomenal!!! We are blessed to be able to pull up a song anytime. Clay has taken this lady’s heart, now and for always. 💕💕😍🤩😘🖖🎤🎼🎹
@@debconnelly1642 if you haven't read Clay's book "Learning to Sing" I guess you wouldn't know. Clay was born with a collapsed lung. Which obviously got fixed when he was a baby. But knowing he was born with a collapsed lung, you wouldn't expect Clay to have the amazing amount of lung power that he has. You would think that the one lung would be weaker but apparently that isn't the case. Clay has a crazy amount of lung power. More than most singers have.
This performance is unbelieveably fantastic! Clay always gives us his beautiful voice to enjoy! Thank you for sharing. All of us fans appreciate you and the others for uploading these great moments with Clay
Effing awesome. You can tell he's young because he doesn't have the same stage presence and didn't hold his microphone close enough to his mouth. But, his voice was so amazing it didn't really matter. He also gave credit to the pianist immediately. Sweet.
I wonder if he knew he had 'it' way back then. His voice, like Susan Boyle's, has that special quality that raises them way above the rest. I don't know what he's up to now but he deserves more than he's getting.
WOW!!! Amazing then and AMAZING now!!! Love, love his low range...somthing we don't hear much of now, but sure hope he uses it again in future recordings!! He has a voice that needs to be heard MORE!!! Love him.....
OMgosh -- how amazing is this man --even so young his voice was fantastic! And still is. This is so wonderful to see in it's full glory. Thank you. Thank you, Clay.
My daughter, a baby at the time (2002) would crawl in the room when she heard him on AI. Afterwards she crawled away. No interest in anyone else. She was about 1 1/2 and could sing his songs. Her 2nd birthday gift was a Clay poster and CD! We took her to see him in Virginia. He saw her and sang to her. She was stunned! Awesome!
Cool video. Thanks for sharing. I just came across an up & coming musician that's worth checking out... Mikey Wax... Search his song "Love Always Wins". Really catchy.
he's using the mic at the top of it's arc of where it could pick up sound, and he has it 1/2 right by putting the sound OVER The pop filter, but yeah it's a bit too close to his chest lol
What a great voice, sweet, deep, velvety....Loved it!
I just came across this.... Amazing! Clay was and is the best American Idol EVER! Thanks for sharing this.
i have chills. this is absolutely stunning. his voice sounds incredible and he is singing with such EASE that it's unreal. he is truly truly truly gifted.
seems like he never used his full vocal potential. i always thought this dude could rival dimash and D. phelps
@@trollzubzero6614 he was pushed to be more pop on american idol. wish he had kept with broadway songs too.
Such a voice he has wow and seeing him this young here must’ve shocked everyone
Beautiful. Incredible voice and phrasing for someone so young. What an amazing singer he was and still is!
2020. Still find I like him. Want more albums that should showcase his voice, his way, his choices.
What a wonderful performance for someone so young, he was so poised and sang so beautifully. Thanks for posting this.

I was in this show with him when I was 13 , 30 now, all my mom could talk about was him. I was like " geeze mom, glad you cared about our number ".
I was a whole 6 years old lol.
Clay put on a beautiful, loving and emotional performance. I love ❤️ watching all of Clay’s videos again and again.👏👏👏👏🐶
I’ve always thought he should have won American Idol. He was always my favourite on Idol and to me, the most talented.
While I love him and Ruben both, I think he was probably going to win.

That's why Randy from American Idol was in shock when he first heard him. Randy's words, "Wow that's unreal" LOL
@@SEABIRDSYMPHONY haha right??!!
Wow. I'd seen clips of this performance, but it is really good to see the whole thing. He's always had that voice. Amazing.
Wow! That voice has always been amazing! Thanks so much for this view into his younger singing career. Love it. :)

That voice! There is no mistaking it. Love!
Thank you so much for sharing! I think you're right that it's the only uncut version out there. What a voice, then and now.
So glad I got to see this in it's entirety. What a voice! WOW! Thanks for posting!

Right??!! I've never known any other singer with such lung power!! It's really amazing considering his birth story.
@@dlclcn5021 What is Clay's birth story?

So glad to finally see and hear this in it's entirety. He's got such an awesome voice. I wish he'd use that lower register more often.
Bridgett Rode I do too. He really received great audience responses when he has.

Quite to contrary, he actually does have very good control over his mic.
Wow he should sung that song at the audition. They would have just gave him the Winner's title right then and there... Stunning!!
He should have gotten a standing ovation Clay Aiken is amazing.
He has such a glorious voice! Very underrated artist
He was always so talented
This was wonderful to see. Thank you for sharing. Loved Clay's voice back then, and love it now.
Wow, this was great to see! You can really see how far he's come as a performer post-Idol, but damn, that voice was ALWAYS there.
Crazy he went to my high school
Love this... Such a talented person. I first listened to his voice when I watched his American Idol performance he sung "Bridge over troubled water"

Aww, young clay. Love it. Now if only if only someone had a video of him singing on top of those carpet samples at Sears.

This song is perfect for clay, power, poise, what a voice this man has.robbed in American, idol
Bravo un abbraccio❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amazing!
This must have been before the re-write of the song. And I'm glad he learned how to use a mic.
Stunning true talent
Wonderful performance!
Dang!
I agree he used the lower register a lot in the early recordings before AI.
That was a talented era for WCPSS. I became a professional ballerina and now a sommelier.
OMG so amazing then and so amazing now!!!
Wonderful! Looked a lot like me at that age. Fascinating he couldn't sing "Damn all the odds." Substituted "Forget."
That was amazing.
Hallelujah. It is a great voice.

bravo :) love it
He couldn't' get off the stage quick enough! So often the case that those with the most talent can't take the glory!
unbelievable :D
Broadway, are you listening???
I think Clay would BE on Broadway if that was what he wanted.Yes, amazing voice I never tire of hearing. He is just magnificent!
