This is known as the Dramatic Irony song in the musical. It is used to establish a sense of triumph before tragedy. The calm before the Storm , if you see it that way.
I nearly cried when I saw this live! It's sad when you know the story of Jekyll and Hyde and how this in the end isn't the moment he thought it would be!
@@enchantroThe best version of This is the moment is from Colm Wilkinson. Listen to his version. ua-cam.com/video/T6Ool8BCSAk/v-deo.htmlsi=EHlKys2vQOLvovLB
Stunning. Such power, rock-solid voice control, impeccable timing and diction. Wow! I especially like the way Cuccioli creates the 'a' sound in 'mo-mant', which allows him to give so much resonance in his voice that would be possible singing 'mo-ment'...great technique!
Jack Moody I'd probably say the strongest English version that played live is Marti Pellow, while the best version that played live was easily the Japanese version
I think that the Korean production is the best so far (They have had a lot of different actors playing Jekyll and Hyde, and every single one of them is easily better than all of the English and Japanese actors so far). My personal favorite is Hong Kwang Ho, and you can see his version of "This Is The Moment" from a musical award concert here: ua-cam.com/video/QLFzaMtxz3A/v-deo.html
Lucky enough to have seen Robert Cuccioli perform this in "Jekyll & Hyde." First time I ever saw a standing ovation to a performance closing the first act! Well deserved, I might add. Brilliant!
Thank heaven we have this performance on stage on the set and in full costume! Cuccioli makes me shiver! No longer an inspiration number, the song becomes a dramatic justification of his move to the dark side. The REALLY DARK side!
I was lucky enough to have known Bob before he ever became famous. When I first saw Bob perform this phenomenal song on broadway I cried. The song epitomized how hard Bob worked to get where he truly belonged. Im happy to say that Bob is still a very down to earth & charming man. May you have continued success my friend!! Love Always, Margaret
Best version of the song ever. A great combination of strong and gentle, coupled with tangible emotion, the only true way to tackle this show-stopping powerhouse number.
Robert Cuccioli delivers the message of the song with extreme intensity and hearfelt emotions. Magnificent VIBRATO!! He is the best performer of this broadway musical production. I would even consider the talent that fits him, the song, and the music into one. Bravo!!
Abso-friggin-lutely fantastic. He's the only actor I've ever seen that's managed to convey the fact that Jekyll might be a little scared of what he's about to do despite all his excitement. And his understated movements are so appreciated after the circus performance David Hasselhoff put on.
Oh my goodness this has made my life!! Was such an honour to witness the original cast during my first trip to NYC. You don’t always appreciate how special a cast is whilst you’re watching a show for the first time but I knew I was in the presence of greatness from the opening note! 😍
“This is the moment, this is the time…when the momentum and the moment are in rhyme” is one of the best broadway musical lyrics ever written, imo…perfect, supportive, flowery rhetoric that plays *just enough* with the English language.
This is the best Version from the Song "This is the Moment" what I hear!! Robert Cuccioli is so awesome and fantsitic with your voice!!! Wow! absoluti brillant! Goosepimples!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was one of my brothers favorite songs. We saw this play in CT, Providence, and NYC. Bob was always into the dash. The way he lived. He was one of the most special people on earth, caring for all other people and helped many many people in his life time. So Rest in Peace Brother Bob and David. I will see again someday! Thank you for this beautiful song!
When at this Broadway Play, Jekyll and Hyde, several years ago, the song, "This is the Moment," was so real, so of the moment of my own Being, that I, upon listening felt an intensity of blessings and gratitude that deeply touched my heart. Ever memorable, ever lovingly appreciative, here shared for the words call anew.
It was the one and only Broadway show I ever saw. It was for my 19th birthday. I still listen to the cast recording quite regularly, but i cant watch that dvd. Glad I got Les Mis soundtrack now!
I had no idea this musical existed, but I am certainly happy that this was my exposure to it. This is truly the greatest moment for me learning about this musical.
When I lived in the city I was 6 blocks from this theater and I would buy last minute tickets to shows. 20 bucks for last minute seat. I saw this one night. Easy to get a single seat. I was taken at this song. The entire next year I went every week. Him and Linda Eder were magical. I was in my 20’s. Single and it was just east to grab a ticket at last minute. One night after the show I went to grab a slice of pizza. And he walked in. I told him how amazing he was. He asked if anyone was sitting in my booth. I said no. He sat signed a napkin and playbill. The nicest guy. Humble. Kind. And I will forever remember this show. Was so lucky to see him. None of the others that filled in for him Had his magic.
To think I found out about this marvelous performance from a youtube channel that focus on shitting all over the downfall of the Game of Thrones series xD
I am grateful this original cast previewed the musical in Seattle before heading to Broadway. How I loved seeing these actors and hearing the amazing music: truly they made the story come alive on stage, a major victory.
I just saw this play live on stage. Amazing. This song is beautiful, but yes you know that this 'moment' will bring him down - but this is what the story is about.
The song that I will sing whenever I climb out of this funk I have been in for decades. I don't care when or wherever I am when I accomplish this feat. I will sing this song with all of the energy out of my heart.

I was fortunate enough to see Rob do this on Broadway. This was truly a show stopping moment. This song alone and his rendition brought the house to its feet!
I just attended graduation ceremonies at Orlando's Olympia HS, where Felipe Gomes brought down the house with his rendition. Absolutely perfect as a graduation song.
This should have been on the DVD instead of Hasselhoff, I mean I like Hoff, but even the quality of these 3 minutes and 20 seconds looked better than the entire 2 hours of the Hoff's version.
Hasselhoff has a good voice, but in my opinion over acts and lacks subtleness. Too in your face. Robert[s performance is very believable, subtle and powerful. Wish I had seen it in person. Magnificent!
I listened to Anthony as well "Stary." Wonderful voice but I preferred Robert, both his voice and his stage mannerisms. Music is very subjective. There is no right and wrong. Just opinions and tastes. The score of Jekyll & Hyde is brilliant! Glad you shared your opinion.

About 36 hours to go in 2010- this song was stuck in my head a LOT this year- things have a way of working out the way they were meant to! Happy New Year, everyone!
Listening to this makes me long for the auditions, the agony of waiting, not getting the part you want-but something lesser...
