The moment that made me smile is Ted adjusting his hands and watching the monitor so the dancers superimposed on the screen would line up nearly perfectly with his outstretched palms. The man knew what he was doing in many ways.
Ted Cassidy actually toured with "The Lurch." When he came to my hometown, two teen-age girls from my neighborhood went down to the studio to be background dancers for Lurch, since the station apparently told kids in every city that they could get on TV dancing behind Lurch. Debbie Ferris and Dolores Tartaglia, who also were (are) cousins. You were stars that afternoon, ladies. We all saw you on TV.
In 1965, “The Lurch” was a dance craze made popular by Cassidy’s portrayal of Lurch. In the episode “Lurch, the Teenage Idol,” Lurch becomes a pop sensation, which inspired Gary Paxton of Capitol Records to create “The Lurch.” Staring Cassidy as the lead singer, it premiered on the TV show “Shivaree!” on September 11, 1965. Cassidy performed the song two more times, once on “Shindig!” and again on an ABC Halloween Special.
Multi-talented Ted Cassidy did everything....Actor, Singer, Dancer, Disc Jockey & News Reporter at radio station WFAA in Dallas. After The Addams Family he went on to do other things as a professional voiceover artist on radio & television commercials.
@@michaelscott1658 Yes he did. Though in the show it was faux played and the music was inserted in editing. But in real life, Ted Cassidy was a talented organist which made it easier for him to pick up things like the piano or the harpsichord. Multi-talented man. Very admirable. Have a nice day!
This made my morning complete. Thank you for posting on the Tube. I still use the guttural "You rang?" statement anytime someone calls me at the phone at the office.
I was 3-4 years old when The Addams Family was on TV, but I've seen all the movies. I never knew about The Lurch dance/song until I read about it on Wikipedia under The Addams Family, and found this video on UA-cam. It makes me want to start dancing. Thanks for sharing a blast from the past.
I can't believe that I never knew about "The Lurch" dance; I was about to turn 9 years old just when this originally was released in 1965. This is great! :D Thank you, Bill Aa for posting this. Is the watermark: "FOR RESEARCH ONLY" related to the company that has this original kinescope, called: "Research Video?" Do The Lurch!!!!!!!! It works for any song ;)
I loved this show probably watched every episode many times, it came on channel 50 the new UHF pure creature comforts, but every day at 4:30 I REMEMBER watching other shows too, Bewitched, Giligan's Island, Ftroop, Mayberry RFD, never knew what RFD even meant, Dream of Jeanne, Star Trek, Lost in Space, Batman and many many more, they'll never have shows like all of these again,it was TV golden age, straight on through till the 6:00 news, then it was play time, On a deeper note,I was in love with Morticia's regal beauty! Wow she was amazingly beautiful to me, at 12! and got Jealous of Gomez kissing her arm, I wanted that JOB! Lol
There was another performance of "The Lurch" that was on a stage with different girls dancing. It was soon taken down. Now it's back but in a different format. Why this annoying "research" censor strip?.
Well it would have been a nice piece of nostalgia if they didn't splatter that ugly text across the front of the screen.put it off to the side somewhere or something 👎👎👎

This video is to be used for scholarly research in the field of Lurchology. All other uses are specifically and categorically prohibited. Thank you.
Heh, lurchology, the only doctorate I’d care to get 😅
Without the expressed written consent of Lurch.

As well as a very skilled organ player.

What a deep voice
Wow..he could act, sing, and dance!
I’m doing a thesis on Lurch dancing. This video clip is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!!!
Did you ever see the episode where Wednesday taught him how to twist?
@@jehjeh37111 Actually, it wasn’t the Twist. It’s was called “The Drew” and it was boss. Neat and groovy even.
I've seen a clip with Morticia showing Lurch how to dance, and she's doing the twist. I think it's from the Butler's Ball episode.
what a great sport he was with this role!
My favorite part is the for research only written right across the middle of the screen thanks for that love it
Ted Cassidy was good looking. He could move well for big guy.
I mean he kinda had puberty go crazy on him. SO that's why he looks so masculine. It's cause he literally is.
Very much so on both accounts
Watching what they called dancing in the 60's is hilarious.

Thanks. This really helped with my research.

Wow! What a flashback!
Lmao at homies facial expression when he intro'd Lurch at the beginning lol
When music was fun

I am glad I lived long enough to see that.
This is the same episode of Shindig that featured Karloff.
0:24 Me when I wake up on Monday And Get a boatload of Work at school to do
That was great.
Now I'd like to see it without research!!
How am I supposed to do research on Ted Cassidy's singing career with *FOR RESEARCH ONLY * covering his eyes on close-up?
thats what i always thought when i come to this video
restcure I know I was wondering that too lol
I meant to say I know
He was quick and limber for a guy his size.
It looks like it's someone wearing a Lurch costume.
@@muushupork When you see him in other stuff, you can see how athletic he was for his size. I wouldn't have wanted to make that dude mad.
Love TC. Gone to soon
That is too funny!!!! 😅😆😅😆 Every time he talks, it sounds like his voice is in slow motion!! Dude, that's strange!! LoL!!!
That dance looks like something that I learned how to do in those days.
Groovey
Some people are only created once Lurch was one of Them 🤙🏻
Excelente video. Me recuerda mi infancia. Los 60's.

There have been a lot of deep speaking and singing voices over the years, but no voice quite like Ted's.

Poor Ted.
Omg this is weirdly funny & the girls can sing & dance, but.Lurch shouldn’t quit his day job with the Addams Family 🤣
If the watermark was put at the top of the screen it would have been nice. Reminds me of those gawd awful Getty images.
One of the more troubling things I've seen in a long while.
What in the haberdashery and horse cobbles is goin on here?
Later reinvented as Type O Negative LOL
Dang he was a big sucka
Let me get this straight, is this for research only?
