Ted Cassidy is my father, and I'm thrilled to see this back up. This video has been up and taken down several times, and i hope it stays for a while. There is very little video of him w/o makeup. I have one other video of him w/o makeup, and I'll see if I can upload it. Dad grew up in rural W.VA. and knew many people like Wesley, and I know this song came from his heart. ..Love you, Dad.
hl57 Are you serious?! He's your father?, i always liked him, admired him, huge huge fan of his. I would've loved to have met him, i even talked like him when i was a kid, yes i have a deep voice also. WOW! this is awesome, please talk to me, is this Sean?
I am sure you miss him. He had a voice that you feel as much as you hear. My dad was a Special Effects man. I don't think they ever worked together, but it would have been amazing to have met him, we the entire cast of Ademi Family. Did you follow him into Hollywierd? I just couldn't, ain't it funny, all my friends are like I can't believe you didn't want to do that. By the time I went in the Corps I was out of there. Have a great day
Wow!! .... Ted Cassidy was a amazing guy with many talents.. A beautiful voice, good looking , had a great presence. He also did voice overs, & made several movies... I do remember this! .. I'm 71 years old now. Thanks for posting this🙏🙂
This makes me shed tears man. This man was not only a great actor but a good man at heart. Yes, we need more kind-hearted big guys like Ted Cassidy, someone who is positive and makes us feel happy. Ted Cassidy is still alive and well with us. May God bless him...
Ted Cassidy was a great man-not only big in stature, but big in heart. He passed away before I ever got a chance to really appreciate his work (I was only 6). Anyway, I grew up a big fan of the Addams Family, and loved his character of Lurch, and what only he couldve brought to that character. I also thought it was cool hearing him do the voiceover on one of my other favorite shows- The Incredible Hulk. As long as we keep his memory alive, he will live on-----
Man, would I love to have his voice. The only way to describe it is BEAUTIFUL. He seems like a very nice person too after you read about him and hear praises coming from the people who were fortunate enough to cross paths with Mr. Cassidy.
WOW THIS IS AN AMAZING FIND! THIS IS TED CASSIDY WOE SPECTACULAR VOICE ..I HAD NO IDEA HE REALLY SANG THIS AWESOME! Free from his Lurch makeup, Ted treats us with the tune Wesley, ably assisted by the lovely Gazzarri Dancers. ... WOW THIS IS PURE TALENT
hI57, the resemblance to your father is incredible, you must be very proud of him. I remember watching the Adam's family and also the episode of Star Trek, it was one of my favourites. After hearing this song and comments your father made in an interview...if only there were more role models like him. I think he must have been the "Big John" of his time.
I've had that 45 since it was first released. Very, very glad that this video clip has survived. Ted Cassidy proved himself to be a master of high drama with this one. Absolutely beautiful, and a timeless lesson, as well. He is greatly missed.
I knew Ted could bust a move but I didn't know he could also sing! Saw him on Laredo a couple of weeks ago, very handsome. One of a kind in the best way possible. Thanks Ted for not letting Capt. Kirk fall into that big hole.
Did Ted Cassidy do the voice of God speaking to Moses in The Ten Commandments movie? Ted's voice was awesome & he was in so many commercials & TV shows. Great talent ❤
Cassidy had a huge voiceover career I didn’t know about. He’d have cleaned up when I was working at Warner Bros TV Animation. I didn’t know him but I was actually upset when I heard he passed away. I loved his voice.
I remember your Dad in the Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid movie. It was the knife fight scene with Paul Newman. Great voice your Dad had, he would be awesome today. I bet he would have been great in public speaking too. Toastmasters International comes to mind.
Saludos.
Wow, he had one heck of a singing voice! Too bad he only actually sang a little bit toward the end. Why didn't they have him sing more of this song, instead of talking through it? He had a great singing voice.
That is amazing! Your father was one of the most amazing men ever. I had a huge crush on him when I was a kid, and still do LOL! What a booming voice. So he is from West Virginia? That is where my husband's whole family is from. We go there all the time!
I encountered Ted Cassidy in a Sears department store candy line in Glendale, California. I lived "next door" in Eagle Rock. It was in 1970. My good friend "John" (who was just ahead of me in line) had excitedly whispered over to me, "Hey Marty, look how tall that guy that who just walked up behind you in line is, he's a giant!" I didn't want to just turn around and disrespectfully stare right up at the big guy, so I decided I'd turn around and pretend to 'just be looking for a wall clock to see what time it was getting to be(stores still had helpful wall clocks back then!). When I glanced up, I right away saw "Lurch" without any makeup on or wearing his costume! I recognized him right away, who wouldn't? Well, I suppose my friend didn't, he just said some "giant guy", ha! I wanted to say something to "Lurch", but I couldn't think of a single thing to say that wouldn't sound kind of stupid. Well, Sears always gave out free bags of popcorn to kids just so their mouths were full and they wouldn't be able to pester their parents to buy buy buy them things, so I just threw a "fun-knee" joke up to him by saying, "HEY KID... YOU HERE TO GET FREE POPCORN TOO?!" Mr. Cassidy's eyes grew a sparkle in them, letting me know that he thought what I had asked him was humorous, TINY me calling GIANT him a "kid" and all. Then he humored me kindly by slowly groaning out, in true Lurch fashion, " UUUUUUH....PEEEEENUUUUUT.... MMMMMM & MMMMMMS!". I laughed innocently to let him know that I thought what he had just said and done for me was "really cool". Then we talked for a couple of minutes more. I told him I was there with my mother and two sisters just to get new school clothes, he told me he was just browsing, but that he might pick up some new tools while he was there, and maybe buy a new washing machine because his old one was giving him trouble all the time now. That was on a Sunday afternoon. So on Monday I had the best "bragging rights" story to share before school, during short breaks between classes, at lunch and after school let out. And I had a good friend to back up my story when other kids tried calling me a liar! I was only 13, and just starting 7th grade, and I was going to a school in Eagle Rock that was both Junior and Senior high, grades 7-12. Even the big kids wanted to hear every detail of what me and Lurch talked about, and specially where we had met and at what time of day so maybe they might visit there and encounter him later on just like I had. The Addams Family show had already ended production by then, 1970. But they still showed reruns at the time, every afternoon even.
When he was really young, he had offers to join and sing for some big orchestra bands, but he turned that down for acting. In some ways, he made a good decision, as the big orchestra band era was dying out. However, I wish Ted would have done further singing, I think he could have had a career as a singer...
Dear daughter of Ted: I have always loved your Dad's appearances-- from Addam's Family to Star Trek to 6 Million Dollar Man, and more. There's a way to download youtube vids to your computer, so you could make your own channel of all his material. Did he ever write a biography? I'd also love to hear recording of his organ-playing. A remarkable man.
What a fantastic man he was, he could seamlessly do comedy and pathos, a great musician and singer as well. I don't think anyone else on the planet could have done such a good job of Lurch, and the chorus to Wesley should be our anthem in this mad world.
Hi hl57! I watched your dad many a day on the Addams Family, but I also found a lot of surprises with him...like him I too was born in West Virginia in South Charleston. I know he was from Phillipi home of one the most beautiful bridges ever built. I also heard him help the staff at WFAA Radio about reporting the details involved in my hero, JFK, and his assassination. And his singing here reminds me of another great WVa singer Red Sovine. You should be proud hl57, your dad was incredible!
He really had a great screen presence, much like Lee Marvin. I always wished his role was more prominent on The Addams Family. You're fortunate to have such a strong resemblance to you dad.
@hl57 It's great to see you posted this! I'm a voice over artist in Denver who does a lot of seasonal Halloween/haunt work. Your dad is one of my biggest inspirations & having a deep voice like he did, I had a great model to go on for some things. Thanks, Mike May.

The original STAR TREK episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" featured Cassidy. His scenes with Shatner are fascinating to watch because it's a rare chance to see what he could have been like as the character actor he was completely capable of being outside of the Lurch role.
I’m 41 years old so I’m obviously way to young I ply wasn’t even born then but I’ve seen the Addams family originals reruns, plus some of his firms and some of the interviews on UA-cam videos of him, he had a great singing voice I love that deep voice that was such a mystical voice he had I wonder if he could he seemed talented etc.

He could have easily made a career out of just voiceovers. And he was certainly more than Lurch--I saw that from his role in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." And the country flavor of this song seems appropro, given that he used to live in Dallas in the early 1960s (including 22 November 1963). Mr. Cassidy had great pipes, and definitely deserved better!
Oh one more thing hl57 I forgot to mention. He was a great basketball player for Buckhannon-Upshur if I'm right, and looking at your home site here you're a basketball fan yourself lol. Good luck and I hope you have a wonderful life. His was far too short, but he left us a lot of wonderful memories that will last several lifetimes!

What a performance....Mr Cassidy 👏👏
This song is a lesson we could learn in 2020!
What a voice and so handsome. He must've had a wonderful sense of humor to do what he did as Lurch. RIP, Mr. Cassidy. :(
I'm blown away , he speaks SO well.
Had no idea he had this much talent. Thank God for UA-cam or you'd never know people did so much more than what they were known for.
He had a great singing voice. What a shame we never heard more of it.
A voice like that only comes along once in a lifetime.
Sounds very much like Lorne Greene.....(From the "Bonanza" western series)...
Partly due to chain smoking. True
Also partly due to having acromegaly
Ted Cassidy was awesome....fun loving, scary, we were blessed with his talent. Thanks for sharing your Talent. Miss you big guy.
Finally! A video of the real Ted Cassidy. I hope this stays posted. He seems very genuine!

This man is missed for his many talents. God bless you for sharing with us.

This is Cassidy telling the kids how to behave 😁

This is great! My father-in-law went to school with Ted in WV. Sure wish I would have been able to meet him.
ted cassidy was the voice on the intro of the incredible hulk tv series
And he did the growls.
Oh wow, I didn’t know that! He sure was great singer.
Your father left one of the finest legacies, especially in the character of Lurch.,
Thanks for sharing this. I'm trying to find a full biography on Ted. Very talented.
truly enjoyed your father's performances and his remarkable presence.
Nice to know. His voice was unique. I love it.
Great clip; thanks for posting.

I was very much aware of all of that. But the issue at hand was his music, and I kept my observations strictly to that topic.

Nope, not his father. He had 2 children,Sean and Cameron
