I was searching for a detailed tutorial some months ago and kind of gave up, thinking this instrument is too much of a niche. Then I randomly stumbled across this, and it's better than anything I had hoped for!
Excellent work! It is great to see videos detailing organ woodwork, as they seem to be relatively scarce on UA-cam. Is there a reason for the choice of mahogany versus other less expensive woods?
Hi, thanks for the comment! traditionally the best wooden pipes are in Mahogany, for the sound qualities and for the stability over time, or even in oak. Pine is often used for the cheaper ones
Hi I am attempting to build a portative organ, using your videos as reference. I have made a few successful pipes by guessing appropriate dimensions and through trial and error, but i struggle to choose the material. What type of wood do you recommend for the pipes?
what are the measures for the pipes (the size)? Because i want to build my own mini pipe organ but i don't know the measurings of the pipes. by the way: thanks for the series how to build a portative organ that will help for building my mini pipe organ!
Hi, before giving the measurements I must be sure, I am testing two types of pipe scale. The pipes for a portative are a little different from those of a normal organ, because they have to work with lower pressures. in the third video dedicated to the pipes I will give all the measurements. Follow the series, Thanks!
Could I ask what is the thickness at the tip of the slope of the front board? 10:02 I found from a reference that it is equal to the thickness of the windsheet at the mouth piece
Hi! Thanks for the videos. Did you mention the measurements of the cut on the block? I understand that the block is 4cm high and the width and depth depend on the pipe, but how wide and deep is the cut? and where is is located? It looks like you do it one cm from the bottom and it is 1 cm high.
Hi, there is a video dedicated to the internal block, but yes, the cut is the same for all the pipes, it's 1cm from the bottom and the cut is about 1cm wide. Whereas the depth is 3cm for the biggest pipe and scaling up to 1cm for the smallest
Ciao, grazie.

Hi guys! the actual construction begins ...
For those interested in the construction, as soon as I have defined the dimensions of the pipes I will show them in the next videos.
Can’t wait. thanks.
@@AlonsoOaxacaS Exactly!!
Ok, this is cool. I’m looking at laser cutting plans.

I thank you so much finally I can build pipes 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙂🙂🙂
I'm happy!
Very excited to see your bellows construction!
Thank you... I hope you like the next ones too
I'm really looking forward to see this series
Thanks Jordan
Oh! I'm glad I found your build series! I really want to build one some day. Gonna watch it and take notes 😁
great, I'm glad too!
Bellissimo! I wish I had the space (and the PATIENCE) to make a portative organ.
Thanks!
I am very excited, I actually really want to try this!

What type of wood do you recommend for the pipes?
Hi. Spruce, oak, mahogany, cherry, maple, they are fine, as long as they are of quality and have no knots.

Uau! parabéns pra você também! Estou feliz por você seguir meus vídeos.
How heavy is the finished organ and what is sound like at end.
It's about 12Kg, 26 pounds. The sound should be that of a small Principal/flute register
@@nippocast Thanks for the reply. This looks very doable. Great videos, keep them coming. Very tempted to have a go at building a two pipe prototype.

Ciao, complimenti per il fantastico progetto, che legno hai utilizzato per la costruzione delle canne?
Ciao Lorenzo, grazie!. Ho usato del mogano, ottimo come caratteristiche estetiche e di stabilità nel tempo.

within certain limits, a thinner lip has a more harmonic but weaker sound.
@@nippocast Thanks I will try to tune the lip

Hi where can I get the plans for this organ build please?
Hi, for now i have this: ua-cam.com/video/RDSq5SDo1Ok/v-deo.html
Hi, a friend is about to commit to trying this feat. Are you following a book or manual?
Hi, the basics from the books but also "stealing" some tricks by watching the videos of other organ builders.
@@nippocast the books your referring to, have you written an instruction book?
Ciao. Bel filmato. Ma che tabella di misure stai usando? Mi sembra larga rispetto alla profondità.

How did you determine the amount to chisel off for the upper lips?
Hi Matt S. The height of the upper lip is equal to the width of the mouth for the larger pipes and a little more for the smaller ones. Thanks
@@nippocast Hello, thank you so much for your answer! Your craftsmanship is incredible!!! I cannot wait to see how everything turns out.

Yes, there is a video dedicated

Hi Loon, solid Mahogany. Thanks
Thanks for your answer. Im so excited to see the complete organ at the End! :D
