Yabushige's actor's real name should be Tadanobu Asano not Asana. That's my bad. Only realized it when it was too late. Just letting you know. Have a nice day!
2 were part of the MCU, Hiroyuki Sanada, played a Yakuza on Avengers Endgame, But Tadamodu Asano played The same Character Hogun on the 3 first Thor Movies.
He also stole the show. Such a presence!
Let see if you can recognize 2 of the actors in this movie's trailer from Shogun. ua-cam.com/video/jBa_aHwCbC4/v-deo.html
Watch the film "Mongol" by Sergei Bodrov - Tadanobu Asano plays Genghis Khan in it
@@Batoev I knew I had seen him somewhere. I watched Mongol a long time ago. We were both much younger.
Mr Asano is a veteran in Hollywood . He is Hogun, one of Thor's loyal friends in the MCU Thor series. Lord Kira Yoshinaka in 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves and H Sanada. Genosuke in the Japanese Samuria classic , Zatoichi. He was Temujin (Genghis Khan) in Netflix' "Mongol, the rise of Ghengis Khan". Thats Captain Yugi Nagata in "Battleship" with Taylor Kitsch, He also portrayed Rear Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi in Roland Emmerich's "Midway" (2019). He was the thunder god Raiden in the 2021 film "Mortal Kombat"
Hiroyuki Sanada started as a child actor and studied martial arts at a young age. He eventually joined and became part of the Japanese stunt man group, the Japan Action Club alongside with the legendary Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba (aka Hattori Hanzo of "Kill Bill") and Etsuko "Sue" Shihomi (Sister Street Fighter). I will never forget the three legends being together in the 1983 film, "Satomi Hakkenden" (aka "The Legend of the Eight Samurai") where Hiroyuki (introduced with an English name of "Henry Sanada") Sanada-san was in the lead role and Shinichi-san and Etsuko-san in the supporting roles. Hiroyuki-san did an excellent job in producing the 2024 adaptation of James Clavell's 1975 novel "Shogun" as well as performing the role of Toranaga-sama. He was aware that he had big shoes to fill playing that role especially due to the fact that the late great Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune portrayed Toranaga in the 1980 mini-series along with the late Yoko Shimada and Richard Chamberlain.
Asano had been in many hollywood movies. Although I noticed him from Mongol as Ghenghis Khan, he's in Thor, Battleship, 47 Ronin, that new Mortal Kombat as Raiden. 😂 not the 1st time Sanada cut his head off!
Asano and Hiroyuki are like 1 package especially if it's about asian movie
Sanada & Asana were both in Mortal Kombat as Scorpion and Raiden respectively. They were also both in 47 Ronin.
they should remake this instead of the dumb movie with keanu reeves
anna sawai is absolutaly stunning
Tadanobu Asano also played Genghis Khan in the Mongol movie. He doesn’t speak a lick of Mongolian and learnt his lines phonetically. He also played as interpreter for the Portuguese in Silence
Wait you haven’t noticed that Yabushige is the best friend of marvels Thor? 😮
Yeah, and you know what his name was in that? Hogun.
I watched the movie but I didn't know that it was him lol. Now, everyone's pointing that out :)
Casuals recognising him from that
He also played Ghenghis Khan in a film called Mongol
I literally only knew this yesterday 😭
He also Raiden in Mortal kombat
There is a huge body of work by Mr. Sanada as he's been doing this for 5 decades. Some of the most iconic jidaigeki (period dramas) have Mr. Sanada prominently featured. I hope that everyone digs deeper and discovers all of his movies!
Twilight Samurai is a favorite of mine.
@@evillink1 yes, that is a wonderful movie. Such a tragic character Mr. Sanada plays with dignity and samurai spirit on full display. Director Yamada Yoji is a famed director who was responsible for Tora-san series.
Tadanobu Asano's maybe most famous role is Kakihara, the Yakuza gangster in Takeshi Miike's cult classic ''Ichi-The Killer''. That movie made him famous internationally, it's one of Tarantino's favorite movies and very violent, so beware if you gonna watch it.
Another fun fact: Takehiro Hira, who plays Lord Ishida, also played Anna Sawai's father in ''Monarch-Legacy of Monsters''.
Oh and Hiroyuki Sanada is a total badass, he can recite Shakespear verses ( he starred in a number of acclaimed Shakespear stage productions) AND can go toe on toe with Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen.
Of course Yabushige is in a Metal band
You should check... all-female, J-metal bands!
They absolutely killed in the last 5 years or so...
A little fun fact about the original Shogun series from the 80's: almost all villain characters, including Yabu, were played by japanese comedians.
The actor who portrays Yabushige (Tadanobu Asano) also played Rear Admiral Tamon Yamaguchi in Midway.
I'm so impressed with Hiroyuki Sanada for his wonderful and very subtle acting in this series. I especially remember the scene when Blackthorne told him that Japan belonged to Portugal by decree of the king, and Tokugawa made a slight raising of his head with a very very subtle expression that conveyed shock and annoyance at the same time, and I really got it! His portrayal of Toranaga was much more of a thinking, conniving, secretive, and at times ruthless daimyo who rarely gave away his inner thoughts. Mifune is peerless, but I thought Sanada succeeded in creating a very convincing true historical figure of Tokugawa.
Thank you for posting these rather interesting facts. I think Mr Sanada ( Lord Toranaga ) is such a great actor and a gentleman....besides Shogun , i really love the movie called Twilight Samurai....awesome!!👍
Glad you enjoyed it
4:26 he was in 47 Ronin with Keanu Reeves as Lord Asano…plus a bunch of WW2 movies
BADASS "UJIO" IN...THE LAST SAMURAI...
MEMORABLE PERFORMANCE.
Cosmo Jarvis has made some really good music if anyone hasn't heard it
Anna Sawai is amazing and beautiful.
yabushige was raiden from the mortal kombat movie, and hiroyuki was scorpion
Yabushige's actor was in a movie with Jared Leto called The Outsider. Loved him then and love him now he's a wonderful performer.
Lord Toranaga also has music work as a pop and jazz artist. He's a very awesome vocalist and pianist.
Sanada also in John Wick of course! All amazing actors
Cosmos Jarvis for new James Bond?
I didn’t realize until recently when I saw a clip that the guy who played Blackthorne played Barney the shell-shocked soldier in Peaky Blinders
You're the only person on UA-cam who pronounces "Shogun" correctly
Yabushige also played a role in the movie Battleship
Asano was great in Ichi the Killer.
CAN'T FIND 'TWILIGHT SAMURAI' STREAMING ANYWHERE...
ANY ADVICE?
The only way I see a “sequel” is by continuing James Clavell’s Asian Saga story. The next book would be Tai-Pan. Fans of the Shogun miniseries would be excited until they realize that Tai-Pan isn’t a continuation of characters they knew in Shogun. 😂
Watch Fumi Nikaiido in a show called Sumu Sumu. She's a natural comedian.
asano is underrated actor hands down
i first saw Tadanobu Asano in 2003 Zatoichi with Beat Takeshi. I LOVED that movie. Asano played a morally bankrupt ronin with terminally ill wife.
Good sentiment for sure. Shogun is the first in a series of books by James Clavell set in Asia, but each book is separated from the one before by at least an age. The next one in the series I believe is Tai Pan. Many have had adaptations for either TV or the big screen, or both in at least one case. I understand your comment to mean that you wanted a continuation of Shogun to find out what happens in the immediate aftermath, but I am afraid that if such a thing were to come, it would have to be with the consent of James Clavell who undoubtedly still owns the copyright. Not impossible and he has done stuff to order before. I would happily watch it, but I would also recommend that you search out the books and read those. He is a very good author.
Nestor Carbonell is mostly famous for his part in Lost
Have you watched the 1970's miniseries based on the James Clavel book, " Shogun " ?
It was filmed in Japan . I consider both series to be very good.
Tadanobu Asano who played Yabushige was also in the movie "Silence." He was the translator for Andrew Garfield's Portuguese character. The movie was also set during the Edo period.

Tadanabu played Genghis Khan .
Let's hope for 2nd season on the book Tai Pan
First fact about Tommy Bastow is INCORRECT! He has said it himself that he's been studying Japanese for 12 years now, and that he did NOT learn it for the role. He auditioned for John but was casted for Alvito probably because of the experience he already had with the language.⭐
Thanks for the correction ❤️
For Fumi Nikaido being accidentally chooked up by Ikuta Toma, if I remember correctly this was a climax scene in The Brain Man.
Nikaido played as an antagonist, Toma played as a high IQ person but can't feel pain. and this particular scene where Toma wanted to kill her was quite intense. She laughed as he chooked her, both of them probably just lost in their characters when it happen.
If you like Tadanobu Asano please watch the very first movie i saw him in.... "Mongol" where he plays a young Ghenghis Khan.
Also he portrays Hogun in the Thor movies.
The last one made me a bit sad and was a total different vibe than all others (most seems to have a music background which is interesting)
In the end Yabishigue still ends up at the bottom of the cliff.
Asano has many movies, he is thor he is thors best friend, he is in battlefield, 47 ronin and many movies
well, that was 5 minutes of my life I will never get back, I mean seriously...
rude :(
Cosmo Jarvis is in Peaky Blinders, too. He is the sniper held in the asylum.
Yabushige best dude in TV SHOW😁💪🤙
4:01 i remember him from thor ragnarok
What, he was there???!!
Don't you remember "Yabushige" in Thor?
Nothing surprising about Hoshi Moeka, who plays the unforgettable role of Fuji?
Couldn't learn much about her :(
Tadanobu Asano and Hiroyuki Sanada are hollywood actors for so many years tho, surprised you didn't know anything about them, or least felt like you've seen them somewhere before?
The novel has ended
I wanted to see the ``Battle of Sekigahara'' in which a large army of 150,000 soldiers fought, one of the greatest battles in Japanese history.
Eastern army led by Toranaga 70,000 and Western army led by Ishido 80,000.
It is the battle of the century that will decide the unification of the country.
I wish they would make it like Game of Thrones.
Even after that, internal conflicts occurred, and Toranaga attacked Osaka Castle in Ochiba's ``Fuyu no Jin'' and ``Summer Jin'' battles.
This is Japanese history
It doesn't end with season 1 just because the novel ends.
I wish they would make season 2
Why would a follow up show not come?
Hi, there will be a season 2 and 3 ❤️ This video was made before that news
@@thenextseason goooood!! Thanks for letting me know. I was worried for a moment, I really liked this show
You forgot Fuji
Maybe Dr Strange could come into Shoguns Universe and than it's "what happened 200years before"😊😊😊
Blackthorne has a very familiar voice. I thought he sounded like Michael Caine. But there could be another actor with the similar voice.
Richard Burton/Oliver Reed.
@@5c0u53
It’s Russel Crowe.
Dude, MC has a reedy voice. Nothing like the gravelly voice of CJ...
@@9y2bgy
Don’t you want to read my comment just above yours?
I thought he sounded like Richard Burton
If you like Tadanobu, then you need to watch Mongo: The rise of Genghis Khan
Yabu is a rockstar????
Yeap!
Season two was green lighted
I am looking at the news and it all says it's possible but we'll see
Cosmo got his break in Persuasion? Seriously? Try Lady MacBeth in 2016. With a brand new actress named….wait for it…Florence Pugh.
Oh that's right. I forgot about that. For some reason, I thought Persuasion was bigger. Thank you for pointing that out!
In 47 Ronin, Sanada also decapitates Asana.
That's really why they smiled at each other - "Done this before" - "Heh"
Season 2 shoudn't exist, but in these days because of money, I guess they will invented it... There are 4 spin-offs they could make from the books, but nothing like Shogun itself. BUT they could make it like a very early prequel with the same actors, because there were still intrique and battles before Sekigahara, minus Cosmo Jarvis because he didn't "landed" yet, but it is still not Shogun and invented by others... I think, we don't need a season 2. THIS is the story and we don't need
A few comments: (1) Tommy Bastow is not the only actor to impress his castmates with his Japanese language ability. Damien Thomas' version of the same character blew both his Japanese and English-speaking cast members away with his flawless delivery of his lines in Japanese even though he never studied Japanese prior to getting the 1980s role. (2) Not "coming at you" for your pronunciation of character's names is puzzling since they say their names clearly throughout the ten-episode run. After ten episodes, I think it would be very clear and very obvious as to how the characters address each other, so why would the simple pronunciation of the names in Japanese be so challenging? (3) It's "Tadanobu Asano"--not "Asana'! How would you feel if someone mispronounced your first or last name?
It was a simple mistake. Didn't realize it until after I uploaded the video :(
Gay Piratesってwwwwww
Why do you not mention the LAAAARGE carreers of most of japanese actors in japanese cinema? It doesn´t matter at all to you, does it?
Dig deeper. Whats the point??
Anna Sawai was terrible in Monarch but im glad she's a lot better in this.
Btw… It’s pronounced “pronunciation” not “pronounciation” lmao
I knew something was wrong 😂 I'll work on that thanks
Cosmo jarvis can't act. Fact.
Actually he did a pretty good non-acting for this show....
the English actor the worst one in the show
Yabushige in Shogun, Temujin aka Genghis Khan in Mongol, Japanese Captain in Battleships, and he's also an Asgardian in the Marvel Thor series.
Yabushige was also with Keanu Reeves in 47 RONINS.
