I got Baldur's Gate 3 a couple months ago and I think it was only the 2nd time the game had gone on sale. It was only $10 in savings, BUT I got all the benefits of patches and new ending scenarios right out of the gate. Plus, that money saved basically paid for the Little Caesars pizza I got that night and had a 10-hour session. Something I'll never forget.

I feel like bg3 is an exception the devs said they’re not making dlc. Any way the game is amazing and I don’t feel bad at all about paying the 70 bucks because I enjoyed every minute of the game. Nonetheless I’m glad you got to enjoy one of my favorite games.

Buying games on day 1 is a "lose lose" situation as you pay for a unfinished game usually.
When the games are 50% off, they are usually fixed. Win win.

Modern triple A games are games designed by committee rn. The love and labor is just barely there and i just can't see it through all the live service designs. Maybe it's also because I'm getting older and I'm now more busy than when I was a child. I can't connect like I use to.

A few months ago I looked up and realized I barely played anything from the 360 generation aside from Halo, CoD and Titanfall. So I am buying up 360 games to play through that I never played. Early Assassin's Creed, Arkham series, Skyrim, Fallout 3/NV, and on and on. I've got a lot to last me through the video game apocalypse. Love the videos Dragoon, cheers.

If you can afford the initial cost, a PC is really the way to go here. Many of those titles you mentioned can be had for as little as $5 - 10, especially on sale. Especially for Fallout / Skyrim because of the modding capabilities and that they're FPSs you'll enjoy much better with a mouse and keyboard.

@@nomad9584 This is true. I think both have unique play value. PC can offer better fps and, in some cases, better graphics. But the feel is totally different when playing on an old console. That's when the nostalgia dopamine really hits different. So it just depends on how and why you wanna play.

The whole Yakuza series. I passed on them forever because I thought they were just quirky open world games. Turns out, they have some of the best stories in gaming, and the pacing is pretty almost perfect. Picked them up for under $10 each and have been blown away.
I’m currently on Kiwami 2 (3rd game) and I’m sure the most recent game will be on sale by the time I finish the others. It is kind of a perfect example because of the whole new game + paywall drama with the newest game. By the time I get around to buying it, it will probably be under $30 with all features included.

I’ve been doing this for years, I used to get 90% of my games for the year on Black Friday or similar sales. I have such a large backlog that I don’t really care about rushing out and buying on release anyways.
I get a bit frustrated with the gaming community complaining constantly about the price of $70 games or $100+ deluxe editions, I always think “isn’t my strategy of waiting completely obvious to everyone else?”

Totally agree, in almost every case I wait around one full year before diving into a game these days, I get the complexity of today's advanced games and graphics but my time is limited and getting spun out over glitches, crashes, etc. is not how I want to spend my time looking for fixes/workarounds and perhaps ultimately hating the game before it has reached its potential.

Amazing how company's just don't understand this, they will never learn. Best way to reach them don't buy it when it comes out. I think is so obvious, but most people specially younger (I'm 46) have a hard time with delayed gratification.
All your points are so valid, also hardware wise it's always great to see older games ( I usually end up waiting 4 years average) max out in settings.
I agree with breaking the rule for certain studios, that release iron out games that you know you want to support if that's the case, CDPR, Larian, Warhorse, FromSoftware, Gunfire games, and some others I forget.
For cyberpunk I waited till a few months back bought it for 35dlls dlc included, and topic aside have been "slow playing" meaning not rushing it, it's a special game. It does suffer of to easy of gameplay even in very hard. But for compensation I bought Monster Hunter world for 7 dlls and been also playing that .
Gaming is the best hobby if you manage time spend, and budget wisely 🤙🏻

Elden ring was totally worth full price, as was Baldur’s Gate 3. On the other hand, Yakuza is one of my favorite series, but there is no way I’m paying full price for a game that had new game + and a dungeon cut out of it.

The last time I bought a new game at launch was 2018 and that was the Spyro remasters. It’s a controversial take for me. When it comes to expense, it’s a no-brainer
But when it comes to multiplayer, being there at the beginning can be really fun. However that varies from game to game
In the case of elden ring, it was really fun imo to be there right at the start. Tons of action, and most players aren’t using meta builds. After a while, a lot of the pool of players dies down, and you get a lot of all-day grinders using maxed meta builds (which makes a BIG difference in elden Ring)
Another example is split gate. Playing it now-you get mostly bots in the lobbies. I’d imagine it was really intense during the early days
A game I did get on fast was the finals. It was fun, but I can’t say there’s really a big difference from then to now-except for seeing the patches that did and did not take place. The multiplayer gameplay itself is more of less the same experience

    • @josephbornman8462
      @josephbornman8462 29 днів тому +1

I waited on Horizon Zero Dawn and bought it for ~15€.
I played it enough to know that I'll want Horizon Forbidden West but hadn't actually finished it.
So I started playing Horizon Zero Dawn and pre-ordered Forbidden West on PC while I still wasn't finished with HZD because I knew the game was worth it and that Nixxes was the studio responsible for the port.
Now I have finished HZD and the main Campaign of Forbidden West and it's side missions back to back and I am glad I waited with getting HZD because the port was not good at launch sadly, and the lower price tag convinced me to give the series a shot but I also happily pre-ordered Horizon Forbidden West because it was an amazing experience and I can't wait for the inevitable 3rd game in the series!
I will miss Lance Reddick as Sylens tho.
But also while I happily pre-order great PC Ports of Sony singleplayer games they really are underestimating my power and patience when it comes to NOT buying a console just to play a sequel of a PC ported game!
Worst case I will wait years for an emulator and then buy the console copy of the game and emulate it on my PC. Mainly because there will never be enough exclusives on consoles that warranty a 500€ investment compared to my +1k game library on PC! This is also why the only "console" I bought was the Steam Deck!

The only games I buy for their regular retail prices are:
    a) Online games I want to play now (because they are the current hot thing atm 🤣) or
    b) smaller, indie games I want to play right now.
I can't remember the last time I bought an AAA game at release date (Baldur's Gate 3 maybe? At least after v1.0), exactly because I hate those unfinished patchwork games, that are sadly the norm nowadays.
E.g. I recently got both "A Plague Tale" games for less than 1/3 the price of one game at launch, and the Definitive Edition of ReCore for less than a burger. And as a PC player you often can benefit from bundled games from places like HumbleBundle, Fanatical etc. That said, it helped reduce the build up of my pile of shame drastically, but I still buy more games, that I play.... First world problem, I guess. 🙈 Reminds me, that I still have to play through Deus Ex: Mankind Divided that I also bought for less than 5 bucks during one of the Steam sales during the "human malware".
4:15 That's the only one I have not (yet) beaten, because I was working for the PR team of Bandai Namco at that time. Because of this, I had to play the latest dev build over and over again, which drained my enthusiasm for Dark Souls II completely, when the game was finally released. It did not help, that the game was eventually also ported to PS4/Xbox One. 😁

It's not that you should stop buying games, it's that you should stop buying new games before more info, reviews, and or price drops hit. For instance, if I didn't just immediately buy Star Wars Outlaws, I would be missing out on a possible great experience while i wait for goobers in the reviews to rant about the game with pessimism. If I have the money, people are saying good things about it, and the game looks good, I will grab it.

Better yet buy indie and AA titles instead. Launch prices are much lower and generally quality is higher than many AAA titles. Here are a handful of great ones...
    Psuedoregalia - $5
    Cultic - $10
    Crow Country - $20
Wrath: Aeon of Ruin - $25
    Tiny Kins - $25
    Super Kiwi 64 - $3
    Vomitoreum - $10
    Supraland - $20

    Toem - $20
    Salaco - $25
    Graven - $25
Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom - $17

Than the UA-cam app crashed and closed out. 😂

This may explain why Nintendo is against preserving old games; they can't sell new games at a high price, especially since they don't cut the price of games nearly as often as other companies.

I only play new games for making guides for my channel. And now enjoying old games on my backlog, and still making guides for it, even it has no views. Because the games give my joys 😊
On financial sides, games subscription save my thin wallet.

The reason why I needed to wait on cyberpunk 2077 is because I only had a Xbox one s at the time, and the Xbox one version was unplayable! I now got a Xbox series x, and I bought the Xbox series x version so that it’s playable, and it’s got the best optimization!

My advice is the EGS freebies, sure some are junk, but some are bangers you never even knew about.
Also the Epic Games Store gets hate, I believe most of it is invalid.
