I took the class a year after I made this comment. My experience with AP chem is that it’s hard but not impossible. Once you get the hang of it, it’s really not that bad. Everyone is different but for me I found gas laws to be the hardest and equilibrium to be easier. I ended up getting a 5 on the exam.
Okay let me update you guys. My experience is that this class is something that is astronomically more difficult and complex than regular chemistry. I have managed to achieve an A in the class, but be prepared to grind hard and long hours to achieve success in this class.
I took this class this year and it’s the hardest class I’ve ever taken, the test are way harder than the hw and reviews but labs will most likely hold your grade to at least a B, which is a 4.0 in AP so don’t worry about a B affecting ur GPA if it’s an AP class

It definitely depends on your school, teacher, and how you work as a student. I'd say I had about 45 minutes to an hour every night I had the class, but my class didn't meet every single day

I am a freshman currently and I’m in honors bio. At our school if you are in honors bio you can be put into for next year honors chemistry but we don’t have a choice to take ap chem. If we want to take it we need to do a placement exam. I really want to get in because I love chemistry(I do a chemistry class outside of school) but I don’t know what concepts I need to know. Can you provide me a basic overview of the concepts required in ap chem? if they do not answer , you can look up “AP Chem course over view” on the AP page or on UA-cam based on someone who’s taken it and what their teacher taught them bc some teachers skip over stuff.

I didn't take AP Bio, but a lot of my friends did. Obviously a lot depends on your school and teachers, but from my general understanding of the two courses, bio requires more memorizing facts and chemistry is more focused on understanding concepts. I would take the AP version of whichever course you felt you understood better, but if you can find any classmates at your school who have taken both, I'm sure they'd have some helpful advice.
For me the beginning was by far the hardest part. Once I started understanding the basic concepts better, I was able to use those concepts as a base for the rest of what I had to learn. From personal experience, it does get better, you got this :-)

well, first I’d take a look at the course layout on UA-cam or the AP page by searching it up. Second, consider how well you did in bio or chem. Did you do well because you had a bad teacher? Or did you do well because you genuinely understood the topics? Third, consider how much time you’re really willing to give to either subject. Did you spend a lot of time on bio or chem bc you genuinely enjoyed it? Both are a LOT of work, I haven’t taken either but I’ve had friends who have taken it and I have also take AP courses and there was ALWAYS a lot of work regardless of what subject. It just depends on the teacher whether to give that much hw. It should be fine if it’s the only AP class. if youre taking more than three at a time AND Ap bio or chem, I highly advise dropping a different ap class unless you think you can handle it. I took three ap classes this past year (junior year- but I’ve finished it bc of the way courses are laid out at my school) and could hardly handle it but I also have two jobs so that didn’t help any. Fourth, consider whether you can handle either subject along with your other subjects PLUS whatever you may participate in as far as extracurriculars. Fifth, junior year is hard, so please considering trying to leave as much time for yourself as you can. With only three ap classes and 3 other classes+ two jobs. The only time I really had for myself was during lunch or at night. That was it, as compared to freshman and soph year, I spent about 75% of my time doing whatever I want.

My biggest advice would be to not be scared to ask for help from your classmates or teachers. If you want to try to get a head start before your class, you can try to watch some videos on UA-cam or read a book like Crash Course before you start the class to build a foundation. Also, try to stay on top of the material as you learn it because once you fall behind it can be somewhat hard to catch up since the topics build on each other.
Speaking of a head start, if you do, I highly recommend this channel or Tyler Dewitt’s channel. If you’re on his page, if I remember correctly, his videos go in order of the chem course or at least it did exactly for my course. On top of his videos croaking the topics, he has practice problem videos attached to them as well, I recommend doing those as well. They were VERY helpful for me. You could probably finish all these or his videos over the summer! :))
Same, well similar, I took honors bio this year and my parents and teacher say I should go for ap chem. But then I'll be one of few people who haven't taken chem before also I already have a heavy course load...

So I’m an upcoming sophomore too, and I’m taking ap chem without any background. I’m really nervous, because I’m also on the dance team and I’m taking precalc, honors geometry, and ap eglish 3. So I’m going to be TIRED. I’m a really good student and I’m great with math but I’ve never loved science, nor do have I ever had to put a bunch of time into my classes. Does anyone have any advice?

I'm not planning to go into the medical field. I took the class because I love challenging myself academically and wanted to take advanced classes. My school has a chemistry requirement, and I decided I would rather take AP Chem than honors chem.

Taking honors bio in 8th?!?!? Wish I could've done that. I had to in 10th. Same thing with precalc. Before, our school used to offer it in 10th but now it's reserved for 11th. Ah well. I wish you the best of luck in your journey!

Is there any way I can just prepare a little bit over what remaining of this summer because I'm taking AP Chem this year(10th grade) and took AP Bio(9th grade) last year. Just wondering if there's anything I could do to prepare a little bit.
I would definitely learn or review the math concepts I mentioned in the video, if you have or are planing on getting a prep book you could start looking through that (the Crash Course book is good for learning and overview). If you know who your teacher is I would reach out to them and ask what you can do to get ahead. Other than that, as with every class you can always just watch some introductory videos on youtube.

Take it. If you’re majoring in anything STEM related, you’ll be fine and you should take it

AP Physics is harder I think
Chem is def harder, AP Physics still has basic algebra as per as math but yea overall chem is way more difficult
