I love how inclusive Jesse is :”3 ‘cause everyone he’s like “oh, tell what do you guys think about this book” or “did you like it?” Etc. And it’s just so cute because he makes me feel part of it, even if I will never read those books, it makes me happy ^-^ 🖤✨
i also read to paradise. almost wanted to dnf it because of the heavy usage of slurs in book 1 but i powered through. honestly i love book 1 and 3, book 1 wasn’t really a unique story/concept but i was invested. book 2 dragged on a little bit but i love the topics that they discussed. book 3 was the most interesting, hard and confusing part. there’s just so much things to talk about but i loved it. all of the books connect through similar themes/topics in each story. it’s not a book that i really love or recommend but it got me thinking about various discussions. i didn’t love the repeating names tho and u shouldn’t really compare it to her previous works.
Yeah I totally agree because I also ALMOST dnfed. I had to force myself to finish the rest of the 720 pages and although some parts were really good, it's just okay. I gave it a 4 (rounded up from a 3.8) and I do like the vaster scope from A Little Life (which I absolutely adored and is my favorite book of all time) but books 1 and 2 were eh, just simply alright. Book 3 was the best one, but overall the book could've been cut down. But the writing is absolutely beautiful and amazing, and some of the storylines were crafted really well. Hanya's writing was the main factor I gave it a 4, it's just something that never fails to amaze me and make me feel every emotion possible. (To anyone who wants to read Hanya's writing, this one. Read this one. Do not start with A Little Life. And if you do want to read that book, look up the tw's and prepare yourself. I'd say it's worth it, but not if you aren't in the right headspace.)
@@genevieveking5078 totally understandable! It's definitely not for everyone, but I do recommend looking up the trigger warnings for The People In The Tree's!
It needs to be said: Jesse, your editing got SO good!!! The ✨aesthetic✨ is so gorgeous! I love it! Your content always been cool and fun, but men, your editing took it to the next level
I felt underwhelmed by daisy jones and the six and boy o boy the joy your vlogs bring to my life... I literally woke up from a nightmare and this just makes me feel so calm and a little life is one of my fav books of all time so I'll be reading it for sure but I'm waiting for the price to go down hehe
I am reading Descendant of a Crane by Joan He. And I am feeling that same way. It is just not completely doing it for me, but for some reason I am waiting for it to get better 🤣 I don't want to DNF either
I feel you on underwhelming books. I read Bone Crier’s Moon in January for my book club and it left me so disappointed. It was everything I love in books on paper, but it wasn’t executed well in my opinion. So many frustrated notes were taken 😭🙈
I have not read to paradise but I read a little life and hated it lol. Her writing is lovely but it is so so overwritten and it could have been cut down for sure! Why are your bookshelf organisations are always the best thing?! Such beautiful footage and editing. Different book again, but by one third I wanted to dnf that book as well (but was doing a buddy read). I also felt a bit iffy about the descriptions of Black people and Black culture in a little life... and even about LGBTQIA+ characters in general? You tap in the puzzle pieces with such tenderness it's kinda adorable. I have never seen someone do a puzzle like that (to be fair I have only seen kids do puzzles)
A book I was underwhelmed by or expected something different from was The midnight library, by Nick Shadow. It’s 3 short stories that at first I thought were connected, but they’re not. The first one was gripping, horrifying and I wanted more. Then the other 2 seemed cut short.
My first read of the year was a crime thriller called The Chestnut man. While I wasn't really underwhelmed by it, honesty Crime fiction is not a genre I reach for a lot, it was difficult to get through. I nearly DNF'd it halfway through, but it really picked up near the end and there was a side plot and character that had me really invested and I pushed through to see how that part concluded.
Reading vlog!!! Thank you for making alot of content. Your channel really helps me out When I am in a dark place. As a puzzle girl book store puzzle! Have not read that book sadly only have energi to read school stuff.
This was so fun! I like the blooming flower puzzle. It’s so pretty and unique. I read the Cruel Prince trilogy recently and was very underwhelmed by it.
I think you should do the bookstore puzzle, even though it has more pieces, I think it will be easier to do because of the art style. I have been doing a lot of puzzles recently and listening to audiobooks and I love it, so thinking about what puzzle to do next is becoming a skill lol
Loved seeing this vid! I really wanna read this book at some point (one of my most anticipated reads for the year); loved “A Little Life”, didn’t like “The People in the Trees”; and the concept sounds really cool, can’t wait! Do the book store puzzle!

I was recently underwhelmed by The Box In The Woods, because I really enjoyed the first two books in the Truly Devious series and this one was disappointing.
I have read it, and oh boy I have opinions on it... The only redeeming quality is the writing. And that's where the positives ends because there's literally nothing more to it. If I haven't picked up the audio halfway through, this would have been the first book I DNFed EVER! (Yes, I've never DNFed a book because I'm always scared that it just might get better... Also OCD about unfinished things lol).
The trust Fall 🤣 What was that song in the beginning btww loved it 🌸 And well u should definitely go for the blooming books puzzle ✨ Love and power to a j from a j 🌻
i had the same problem, Last month I read "Kind of a Big Deal" by Shannon Hale I wanted to dnf it so bad but I had 100 pages left and I thought I saw some potential but I just didn't like the ending and it wasn't a cohesive story overall. The stories she gets put into was the part I loved but I feel like that was the only parts I really loved about the book.
this one was a big letdown for me after loving her first 2 books. i just didnt get the 3 different stories as 1 novel. it didnt make sense as a whole book and shouldn't have been pitched a novel imo
I DNFed The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood. One of those stories where the mc knows nothing about the outside world and then with a bit of training becomes a skilled assassin. Also the synopsis says nothing about this but apparently the mc is a grey humanoid thingy with tusks? No idea why but I did not enjoy it at all
You should do the blooming books one! I also now know for sure you don't have pets. There's no way I could leave a puzzle on a coffee table for months without it being destroyed by the cats! lol! I have been struggling for months to read Witches Steeped in Gold. I really wanted to like it but I don't. I'm about 100 pages in. I should just DNF it, but...I don't want to. I have been reading other books that I know I'll like hoping I'll have enough energy to get back to it. Maybe soon. We'll see. I just find myself going, I know what all these words mean, but they don't make sense. I feel like you're supposed to know the magic system going in as there are no good explanations and I feel like I'm missing a ton going on because of it.
The book I completely was overwhelmed by was city of bones. I read over half the book and there were some plot twists I wasn't suprise by and I only thing else happening was jace and clary snapping each other I DNFed it
I'm feeling the same way about Plain Bad Heroines at the moment. Something about that book just is not clicking with me but the writing is so beautiful, I cannot bare to dnf it! 2022 in general has just not been great for me so far in terms of reading. :/
LMAO this is a mOOD. but I would say a good call is look up the trigger warnings for A Little Life, it's really really emotional and touches on dark subjects that are hard to handle and definitely not for the faint of heart. If you do read it, I hope you enjoy it :3
If it helps about your teeth I had a cavity filled two days ago and it was a possible thing that I might have to have a root canal... dentist said if I ended up needing one they would just do it in the middle of me getting it filled and I guess tell me afterwards??
Lol I did DNF this. Made it to Book 3 and put it down. I feel like I have the unpopular opinion on this book because I was fine with Book 1 and Book 2 but could tell that I wouldn't like Book 3. It felt so derivative and exactly like 900 other dystopians - I couldn't get into it.

I didn't read much in january but one of the books that ive had for ages was just...Bad. The protagonist turned into what ever the plot needed. If it worked better for her to be naive and trusting, she was. If it was better for her to be a courageous b*tch, she was. And we were told the noble court was deadly and tricky yet we NEVER see any of it. I'm salty this book has been taking up room on my shelves this whole time.
