- Landscape photography on Svalbard has always appealed to me, so when I got an invite for a short adventure across the frozen arctic wilderness, I couldn't say no. Sadly, the trip didn't go at all to plan.

Had me in tears!! 😂😂
lol Same here
I LOLed at that!!!
Priceless
George Loch so funny! 👌
Adeel Jawed 😂
I love your videos, Thomas, but I was rather disappointed that you didn't introduce Morten Hilmer. Morten, for those who don't know of him, is a wildlife photographer from Denmark who has shot images for National Geographic, among others. He spent a couple of years as a member of Denmark's elite navy dog sled unit that patrols the coast of Greenland. Definitely worthwhile to check out his channel.
I recently found his Chanel by chance, he does make some great images
Totally agree with you on this, big fan of Thomas, but this produced the same effect on me.
Since you Thomas, is featured in Mortens video from the same trip, it's quite strange that he's not in your video at all? He must be in charge of the trip, since he's an expert in arctic areas?
I got soo excited when I realized that you are in Svalbard together with Morten Hilmer! My two favourite photographers!!!:)
Thank you dear Thomas for sharing again one of these your great and wonderful YT photographic videos! Wishing you both safe and happy travel and much continual success in your efforts to capture both beautiful and memorable photos! All the Best Wishes to and for you sir!
Love Morten's channel too, his patience and enthusiasm shines.:)
AWESOME to see 2 of my favorite photographers working together!!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Morten Hilmer, you should know that Thomas was in great hands because Hilmer is a former Danish special forces soldier who served on the Sirius Patrol in the Arctic Circle for 2 years!
Two of my top 3 youtubers, C'mon Morten, get your vid up. Superb yet again Thomas, looks so much fun.
Same here Matt, Morten's channel rule as well! you gotta do more trips with Morten Thomas
please give me a link to one of Morton's videos. haven't seen one of his yet
Thomas Martin this is one of my favourites from Morten... ua-cam.com/video/QFQ5Y_myV5w/v-deo.html
Thomas Martin there’s a link to Morten’s channel in the description. I just recently discovered him.
Matthew Wilkes Thank You for the quick reply. Loved it! really motivational
Thomas et Morten .
Les deux photographes que je suis chaque semaine sont réunis ! Super
YES! Morton Hilmer! Love that guy and his amazing channel!
my two favourite photographers on youtube in one video! thats one hell of a combination
I am off scedule watching your video's for a while. It is amazing how you still manage to get a fine photo as you shot that last picture.👏
Fun video to watch, thanks.
regards,
Ben👍
Brilliant Thomas! Been looking forward to this. Seemed like fun although not everything went as planned. So they closed the valley of completely 'couse of the bears. I heard rumours that they did after I left, but didn't know they kept it closed for so long. Looking forward to the next one! PS: Thank you so much for the reccomending my video! It's greatly appreciated :)
Very inspiring! When condition's bad to shoot, stay calm and positive!
Morten is a absolute badass. And it will be amazing to see you both together. Hoping this will happen again. The photos were amazing, despite being opportunistic, and it goes to show your talent
Yeeees ! What could be better than you + Morten ! As an amateur wildlife photographer I really love Morten's work so it's like the ultimate collab :D Best of luck for you guys and enjoy your time there :)
how amazing to see my two favorite youtubers collaborating!! would love to see more of you guys :) thanks a lot and keep up the good work
Fine adventure, mr. heaton... glad your courage was rewarded w a fun ride down the hill AND great images on top of that!
This video is so good. You have the ability to bring out the best of ever bad situation. It's motivate any one to go out in bad weather and keep the one image. 😊
Doom and gloom everywhere, what a relief to watch Morten’s take on the same trip.
When you said Morten I thought No Way, could it be? I love Morten's Channel, such a great wildlife photographer. nice collaboration Tom
When I saw svalbard pop up on your and Morten Hilmer's Instagram story I was really hoping that you would do a vlog together! This was so fun to watch!
Great vid! I bet you had a case of "lens envy" compared with Morten when you saw the reindeer!
Great to see some point and shot photography, how liberating, no tripod or filters. Great stuff. The Reindeer photo is super, has to be on my bucket list to get one of them, better than the Aurora any day.
Oh, man. Another adventure you shared with us. By your describing your thoughts, feelings, sights, and actions, you take me with you. And that's part of the reason I'm drawn to your channel. Thank you.
Looks like you had a great time despite the weather and the logistical issues. Morten seems like such a cool guy - I’ve been following his channel for a while now. His excitement for wildlife photography is infectious.
It’s really fun for viewers like me when two of your favorite UA-camrs collaborate!
That shot of the mountain through the car window is fantastic!!
Sweet country! nice footage...well a little all over the place...Just teasing...I love what you do!
The second mountain shot you took Tom was simply stunning!!
That intro footage was soooo good...just blew my mind
The photo you took from inside of the car is worth a print. It is one of my favorite of your photos you took this year.
I came to you via Morten's channel. I'm much enjoying your content! Thanks for filming Morten and the pulk. That was hilarious!
Great to see both of you together. I have been following both of you. Good luck..
This one is absolutely stunning! Two of my favourite photographers and UA-cam storytellers teaming up. Can’t wait for part two....
Best Colab ever! My heroes combined!
Brilliant! Never seen you looking like your having so much fun on the pulk.
Great video! You, Morten and a gorgeous adventure! Lovely!
I think it's a nice change to have seen so many shots hand-held in this video. Not that tripods are bad, but I'm glad you got down on your belly Tom to get those reindeer images.
I'd never said that you guys knew each other! I was watching the video made by Morten, then I thought "than voice, that tripod and than face look familiar!"! Such a small world after all!!! :)))
What a pleasure to see you two working together and having a great time.
That across the fjord shot of the mountain was incredible
My two favourite photographers in one video. Amazing and great video as always. Greetings from Germany
You fellas are just living the dream! Super cool vid. It's inspired me to plan a snow shoot. 😊
Awesome!! I have just smashed through all of Mortens amazing vLogs with so much interest after recently discovering him and then my other favourite vLogger (that's you) posts a type of collaboration video! who knew .... well obviously you two did :) wonderful video again thanks for all your content Tom
wow .. great to watch you and Morten doing collab. You two are the only youtubers whose excitement and connection with your photographs i could able to feel through your videos .
Great video Thomas, just goes to show you can get wonderful images in the worst of conditions!
Great video Thomas. It seems Svalbard is becoming the next photographer’s destination.
Great footage as always! Hope you and Morten had a great time together and learned quite a bit from each other and it was as inspiring for you as it is for us viewers! Thank you both for your amazing work and insight! Cheers from Germany!
Awesome, Tom, you adventurous soul! I sit on the edge of my seat and wait for the next episode of this journey in Svalbard. Many thanks!
what a great start for a new adventure !!! Photography is so easy, you drive, you stop, you shoot and bang, a great shot !!! ;)
Morton and Thomas-my two favorite youtubers, too! A delight to watch, and thank you.
It is freaking impossible to watch this without a smile in my face, you know? Great video, Thomas!
Awesome to see you and Morten collaborate, and also to see this from your different perspectives. Looking forward to more from you guys. Also that 2nd pic blew my mind when I noticed the houses at the bottom of the mountain. You really captured the feeling of insignificance and awe when standing below such a large mountain.
What a collaboration of epic proportions! Well at least for me! Two of my absolute favourite people! Thanks gentlemen!
Well, you certainly made the best of a bad situation. Who knew you could landscapes with a 400mm LOL!!! Loved the reindeer as well!!
It's cool to see you team up with Morten. He's another one of my favorites.
Thomas i love these snowing places.
@10:25 fear of “snow bridges” - I was thinking the same thing when you mentioned (I thought it wasfresh snow, but actually recent ice melt was the issue) and glacier travel! Snow sounded icy and hard packed, but still - might have been a better idea to tie up! Glad to see all ended up alright.
So stoked to see you and Morten teaming up. Easily two of me favourite photographers on the Tube!! Hope this becomes more of a habit.
How cool is it that you guys did a video and shared an adventure, two of my favorite UA-camrs. Well done.
Oh wow. Two of my favourite photographers in one video! what a wonderful way to start a day.
Two of my favorite Nature photographer/UA-camr! Lovely videos! Awesome!
You two are my most favorite photographers! I am so enjoyed watching you guys having fun!
What a journey but tough conditions. Loved the photo of the reindeer and the snow falling.
Nice that you teamed up with Morten on this short expedition!... and that you left behind those "horrible women" :)))
Quick questions:
1. When you have a chance can you provide me the link for the camera inner-bags you use to put into your back pack.
2. I will soon start to print my own photographs. I was wondering where do you buy your packaging (i.e. black boxes, tubes, picture wraps, etc) if it is UK Company, do they have any affiliates in the US?
3. What happened to your UA-cam Award frame in your office? I am the one who told you initially to place it on the wall behind you for all to see!
Thank you for your suggestions. And proud viewer of all of your vlogs!
Look at that! tought I recognized him. you met up with morten Hilmer😊 he's an awesome wildlife photographer! Looking forward to your next video!
this experience is magnificent !! I follow both your channels, and I love your photos, but even more I admire the passion and respect you have towards nature, it is not for everyone. for me you are a source of inspiration, thank you and keep it up !!! a greeting from Italy Federico
Been to Svalbard, amazing place. Golden hour on Svalbard is other worldly, nothing else like it
Hooray for storytelling! This is an awesome journey told exceptionally well.
Well done , thats why i subscribe to both your and Morten's channel cant beat wildlife/landscape and being out in the natural environment , you both need an Aussie adventure :)
This is now one of my favorite videos. Thanks for sharing your sled ride.
Two amazing photographers in one video! How cool is that?!
No Way?! My two favorite photographers of all time together on a trip? Love it!
You ought to give the Olympus E-M1 mk2 and the 12-100mm f4 (24-200 f4 equiv.) a try, Thomas! You will love the combo for nature and landscape photography. Splash, dust and freeze proof. Combining the IS on the lens and the IBIS you get a stunning 6 stop stabilized system. If you use the in-camera 2x Digital converter you get a 48-400mm. You simply cannot beat that.
The bit of you sliding down the slop on the sled - you looked like you were so relaxed. Great shots of the reindeer,
This video calmed my current anxiety/panic attack. Thanks Thomas
You doing grand tour (cycling) photography in the high mtn stages and fusing it with your landscape photography skills would be dope. Just a thought, good video!!
A splendid vlog. And with Morten Hilmer! And was that a rifle I saw Morten carrying? Heavy duty. Thanks a lot.
It's amazing collaboration. I love your channel and most recently opened the Morten's channel. I love landscape photography, but also I'm interested in photos of wildlife.
Thomas and Morten. Pro: Photographers !
Morten + Thomas = Epic images! Nice Video as always :)
I love this vlog. How do they keep getting better? That reindeer shot, absolutely gorgeous.
The almighty UA-cam algorithm must be doing overtime...I had no idea that you know two of the other photographers that I follow, let alone have them both in your own vids...and you drove past the house of another that lives in the village too....freaky how well youtube pushes content. Great images...you gave Morton a run for his money with the deer shot!! (the close up with the snow on its face was awesome too)
Awesome that you got to hang out with Morten, love his channel. Nice shots 👍
Just came back this weekend from Svalbard. Pitty i didnt meet u. Got a few epic pictures from the Aurora explorer when on a trip to the pyramids this saturday. So looking forward too see your retouching 👌
Was so hoping to see you on a boat in this vid checking out the coast, sorry that didn't work out.
When your 2 favourite photographers collaborate 👌🏽👌🏽 legends
Hey man, good job sticking with it and getting some great shots. Svalbard seems perfect for a long lens and some minimalistic compositions-- I look forward to part 2!
Wow, even your point and shoot travel photos are better than my best work. Keep it up!
Beautiful Animals. Love the little house at the bottom of the second shot. You can easily lose magnitude without a reference point.
What an amazing surprise that my two favourite youtubers meet up!!
Can´t wait for more and cross check on Mortons channel! Thumbs up for both of you! Inspirational guys!
Svalbard~ awsm place !
Waiting to see more from you ,, wishing u good luck for the rest of your trip...
What a cool little adventure. You looked so happy sliding down. :) That 100-400mm is so sweeet. Those shots at 400mm were fantastic.
Svalbard...lucky you!!
That place is very special.
Finally you guys are in thee same video. My 2 most favorite photographers in the same video :) - dream come true for me :)...posted similar comment on one of Morten's video. I even messaged you guys on Instagram when I saw your stories :)
