Another good repair Alex! That mower is super nice as well. The newer 31000 and 33000 series Briggs are horrible for head gaskets. So little material between the cylinder and valves!
You would think they would have tried to fix the issue on these units. At least the head gaskets are a pretty easy job and can get a valve lash adjustment at the same time.
I was using a brass wire wheel to clean them heads and blocks. Then I was showed how quick and easy they clean up with 100 grit sandpaper on a sanding block. I fill up the value cavity with carb cleaner to see if they leak. I don't have a leak down tester either. Another great job!
You should be teaching at the local high school man so good at detailed instructions ! I've learned a bunch so thanks , hey who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks 🐶
I really appreciate your support. I have thought about teaching. Maybe in the future that is something I can do in a formal environment. I really do enjoy making these videos and learning as I go.
Alex, you caught that at just the right time. It was only going to get worse from there. Nice job explaining the repair and the torque sequence. That looks to be a easy sell now! Briggs did a horrible engineering of that head to make the sealing surface so narrow their. You could just about make that a normal maintenance at a certain interval of hours. Stay cool buddy ! ✌🎥🇺🇸💰
Thank you so much Roger. Yes I’m glad I caught this before it got to a customer and they had problems. At least I got a video out of it as well and i learning constantly. Hope you are doing well my friend.
They corrected the space between the cylinder sleeve and the push rod /oil galley where it blowed through the factory gasket like shown on this post Also double check the push rods for straightness,on mine the aluminum one was bent. Have a great day
I bought the same mower used. Its seems good but its missing the air filter housing/cover so I dont have a part number to order it - dang it !!! You sold that one I bet ...
Thank you. I got this one at harbor freight. It comes in a box and you have to assemble it, but it works great and has locks on it so if the jack fails it won’t crush you. Also a spot to put a tie strap.
I've been replacing the aluminum pushrod with a steel one because of wear issues where it comes through the guide they are the same length and diameter
Hey I'm not a .mech. but where the rods go through like plastic black pice one for intake and one for out where you get them and how bad does a rod got to be to not use
Yes one extra head bolt would have put enough clamp load on these I think. Also the gap between the pushrod area and cylinder was very thin. It made them very easy to get blow by.
Best video yet well explained every detail needed , perfect
Glad it was helpful! I greatly appreciate the feedback.

Always the briggs and stratton power built engine that i get in Always have blown head gaskets. Good job on the repair.

I don't know why Briggs And Stratton wouldn't redesign the cylinder head, good job on the repair
Must be they wanted them in for repairs and help sell more mowers ;). Thanks for stopping by 😎

You bet! Thank you for the continued support.
Good video Bro. I have an old standby rider just like that one.
Thank you very much!
Just watched another video on a head gasket issue also . Must be the year of the head gasket lol nice work brother 👍
Right!!! I’ve had a couple already this year. Thanks for stopping by John 🛠🛠

Great video..I was wondering…you said you loved that mower lift! Where did you get it at?? I like the design of that one also.

Thank you for stopping by the channel!
Briggs has a design flaw, a new head gasket will correct.

If it only has a slight bend I would try and straighten it, but if it looks bad I would just change it out.
Got the same motor with about 20 hrs at best..When will this come I wonder.😂
Poor design by briggs, needed a bolt there where it is blown.

Can you please hold the camera still you're driving me nuts
